 Outline

Welding is a process whereby two or more parts are fused together by means of
heat, pressure or both forming a join as the parts cool.

Welding is usually used on metals and thermoplastics . The completed welded joint
may be referred to as a weldment.

What are the 3 types of welding?

However, there are many different types of welding processes used today, for
different effects and needs. Three of the most common are Arc, MIG (Metal,
Inert Gas) or GMAW (Gas, Metal Arc Welding), and TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas)
welding

1. Coating Flow
2. Rod
3. Shield Gas
4. Fusion
5. Base metal
6. Weld metal
7. Solidified Slag

The process is used primarily to weld iron and steels (including

stainless steel) but aluminium, nickel and copper alloys can also be
welded with this method. • It dominates other welding processes in
the maintenance and repair industry, and Is popular because it can
be used in the field without complicated equipment and gases.
Types of AW:
• SMAW
 •Carbon arc welding
•Gas metal arc welding(GMAW)(MIG)
• Gas tungsten arc welding(GTAW)(TIG)
• Submerged arc welding
• Electro slag welding
• etc
SMAW is a manual arc welding process that remains one of the most commonly used
welding processes. It can be used for both repair welding and production, and it can
be used in all welding positions on all ferrous metals
