POWER AND CONFLICT

IN ORGANIZATION
CHAPTER 8
POWER OF THE
MANAGER

A manager uses his authority within the

framework of the organization.

Power, is thus, clearly related to the authority

vested on the manager by the organization as
well as to his social status in the community.
Power is a reflection not only of wealth and prestige but also of other
factors.
These other factors, according to Coredero and Panopio, are follows:

The existing political institutions in the society;

The society's definition of current needs and wants;

The roles expectations that the members of society

attach to political positions and to the holder of
such political positions and to the holder of such
75%
political positions;

The unity and assertiveness with which the

pressure groups mobilize themselves in attaining
their respective goals.
Conflict in the Organization

Conflict is a social process. It is a "form of

emotionalized and violent opposition in
which the major concern is to overcome the
opponent as a means of securing a given goal
or reward."
Conflicts develop from opposition or
struggle against one another for a good goal
or a value. It is principally directed towards
overcoming the opponent to attain the goal.
The relationships between the opponents are
"highly personalized form of struggle in
which the competing parties try to reach
goals sought by impairing or destroying each
other."
