Chapter One -You, the Teacher as a Person in the Society

“Teachers are the most responsible and important member of society because their professional
efforts affect the fate of the earth.

I learned that there are philosophies of education that a teacher must be aware of. That these
philosophies differ in concepts and a teacher ought to know why he or she teaches, what things that
must be taught, and how these learning are taught. I also learned that every teacher has own
philosophy of education, they may be different from others but one thing is common: a teacher
knows best for his beloved learners.

I realize from this lesson that I am more of existentialist, since I believe that learners have the right
to know themselves and must give the chance to prosper according to his talents and capabilities.
Besides, when it comes on subject matter, the students are given options and these options will help
them become creative, inspired, resourceful, and realize self-worth. Also, I did realize that in order
for the learners learn effectively, the teacher must know how to make strategies so the students will
be more open and expressive.

As a future teacher, I am sure that the learning I had will become my guide on how to facilitate my
future students and will surely help me to teach well. Furthermore, as an existentialist, I must not
impose my beliefs and values towards my students since values are personal and I should be non-
judgmental with their differences and always maintain sense of responsibility.

Chapter Two: The Teacher in the Classroom and Community

First Point: The National Competency-Based Teacher Standards

Domain 1: Social Regard for Learning

This domain tells us to be a good role model for learners. As teachers, we are responsible for their
actions that can be learned from school. Everything that they’d see to us may be right for them. So
as teachers, we act as good models and what we think is right.

Domain 2: The Learning Environment

Environment is a big factor in the education of every learner. We should be aware on the
environment that is conducive to learning. For me, as a future teacher, I can provide a conducive
environment by making it safe and creates an environment that promotes fairness. A well balanced
environment can help learners study hard and make them interesting in school.
Domain 3: Diversity of Learners

Diversity is very important in school. As future teacher, I will encourage learners to share their
personal history and experiences. I will also use varied instructional methods to accommodate
student diversity in learning styles and multiple intelligences. It is also important to know their
differences and also their abilities in order to give fair attention

Domain 4: Curriculum

The mastery of subject is still important to teach learners of different ages. When you know it, there
is no any problem when it comes to answering the questions of your students. It is important to
have self-confidence in answering those questions raised by the learners. As a future teacher, I will
choose right instructional materials related to the subject that are appropriate with their age and of
course to their ability.

Domain 5: Planning, Assessing, and Reporting

There is a need to monitor the progress of every child. It is important to report it to their parents or
guardians to give some appropriate actions on it. Communication can produce a good relationship to
the parents. As future teacher, I will implement some time on meeting with the parents to discuss
everything about my advisory class.

Domain 6: Community Linkages

A multicultural teacher can relate to other culture even she is new to it. As teachers, we need to be
involved in the community that we are based. We are not just to stay in the four corners of the
classroom but also we are needed outside the classroom which is the community. The school and
the teacher have a very crucial responsibility in bringing about change and development in the
community on one hand and the community provides a lot learning opportunities on the other hand.

Domain 7: Personal Growth and Professional Development

As future teacher, personal growth is needed to be an effective teacher, we say, we learn from our
experiences. So through these experiences, we grow better and learned everything in life. I learned
that teachers should act professional and have code of ethics to follow. This can be our guide
through our whole life in teaching.

Second Point: The 21st Century Teacher

Teaching is a respectable profession the world over. The status of teachers has been comparable in
all parts of the globe. As a global teacher, I think we should think and act locally and globally. We
should also learn management skills and makes content relevant and updated. Our learners know
many things nowadays, so we should cope with it and know everything that they know. We should
also practice our critical thinking and the most important of all, use technology in education.
Technology is now a big part of our life. Teaching with technology I think can make our teaching
more advanced and interesting. We should connect to our students through technology. We can also
bring the world into the classroom, school, and community. And most important of all, we should
continuously grow professionally.
Third Point: School and Community Relations

While the school is the official working place of a Teacher, the community is the wider learning
environment. We can teach outside of the four corners of the room. Outside world and cooperating
community activities can make learning more advanced and joyful. Schools are often perceived to be
the transformative agent of change; hence the teachers are agents of change. The teachers’ role and
functions do not stop within the four walls of the school, but extend beyond the community.
Community provides the authentic resource for teaching and learning.

Fourth Point: Linkages and Networking with Organizations

It is important to have linkages in education. It can help the teachers give better service to students
and to other education stakeholders in the community. They can help us motivate in teaching and
provide more information to share with our students. We can also learn more when we cooperate to
other organizations related to our field. We can share same experiences and learn something from
them. Linkages through local, national and international can help us future teachers in molding our
students to be better person in globally changing world. We also needed this to compete to other
countries when it comes to new information and can be a globalized teacher as well.

Chapter 3: On Becoming a Global Teacher

Global Education and Global Teachers

It is a way of approaching everything we teach and how we teach it. It broadens horizon and
encourages exploration of all subjects from a global perspective. It contributes to the whole
curriculum and enhances our understanding of whole world. It studies different cultures and
countries and issues that face them. In order to become a global teacher we should be more
equipped with knowledge of various educational systems outside the country. A global teacher is a
competent teacher who has enough skills, appropriate attitudes and universal values to teach
students with time tested. A global teacher must understand that our world is interconnected, that
they should also recognize that the world has a variety rich of life, that he/she must understand and
respect the diversity of learners and he/she must be creative and innovative in teaching.

A Closer Look on the Education System of Selected Countries of the World

This lesson gave us information that the education is universal. From the different educational
systems that are presented in those countries including Philippine it says that basic education is
compulsory. Those countries are all in the K12 curriculum which is designed to provide a holistic
education for all. It will give students ample time to master basic academic skills as well as to
participate in co-curricular and community activities.

Multicultural Diversity: A Challenge to Global Teachers


In school we encountered different students coming from diverse cultural, social class, racial and
ethnic groups. Based on the multicultural education they receive an equal opportunity to learn in
school. Teachers and educators must value the differences in prior knowledge and experiences of
learners, we should also need to be familiar to background, histories and culture of the learners in
order for us to have a better understanding about them. In able for us to achieve the goals of
multicultural education it is very important for teachers to be knowledgeable about differences in
cultures, religion, ethnicity and even the language spoken by the students.

Broadening Teaching Perspective: Teacher Exchange Programs

Broadening your teaching perspective will help you to become a global teacher. By expanding the
experience of a teacher beyond the confines of their classroom to the wider learning environment of
the world will help a teacher to achieve the level of global competitiveness. There some programs
that will help a teacher to broaden their teaching perspective. The teacher exchange program
offered educators to the opportunity to exchange teaching positions with a teacher from another
country. By this program teachers will improve their understanding and appreciation of another
culture and education system. With this enhanced awareness, participants expanded the global
perspective of students and colleagues in their home and host communities and positively impacted
the quality of classroom instruction.

Bringing the World into the Classroom through Educational Technology

“Technology can bring the real world into the classroom, which means that as teachers we can
better prepare kids for exciting adventures that they face in their future” – Dan Robert-Seychelles

Technology nowadays is most used tools of teachers in teaching and in connecting to his\her
students. Technology can provide support to teaching in the resolutions of meaningful problems.
Students will be interested in the multimedia format in the form of sound and moving images.
Through the use of technology with just one click we can show to our student different places,
outside and inside the country, different images, sounds in relation to the lesson they are discussing.
Technology can help the learners visualize processes and relationships that are invisible or difficult to
understand. Technology provides avenues for discussion and communication among learners. Just
like in our other subjects we used technology as a tool for communication. We created a group
where all my classmates and our professors are members of that group. Our teachers posted all the
necessary things that we need in that particular subject, then our assignments, projects, and seat
work will be posted or send in that group. Yes it is an access for the student and teachers but not in
all because some cannot comply with this because they don’t have computers or internet at home;
some others are in the areas where it is hard for the students to access technology. I hoped that
they can also consider those instances.

As a future teacher this chapter broaden my knowledge and my perspective on becoming a global
teacher and how to address diversity it also addend my ideas on how to be innovative in teaching.
Diversity is of learners has now become a local and global concern among teachers. In addressing
the diversity of learners I learned that I should need instructional modification, eliminating
educational those policies that can be discriminatory to them and applying different teaching style
that is appropriate with the learners. I must also avoid stereotyping and learn as much about and
become sensitive to and aware about their backgrounds. As a future teacher I will improve my skills,
knowledge and values that a global teacher must have. If ever I will be given an opportunity in the
future to teach abroad this will become a system guide for me to apply all the knowledge that I’ve
learned from now and I will not limit myself to explore to gain some more knowledge.

CHAPTER 4: THE PROFESSIONALIZATION OF TEACHING

In our profession that we choose there’s a basic law for us to follow and must commit. The
Presidential Decree 1006 is a decree that commonly known as Decree Professionalizing Teaching,
declared that the teacher education be the highest quality and strongly oriented to Philippine
conditions and to the needs of the Filipino people. This law stated that the qualified teachers must
pass the (LET) Licensure Examination for Teachers.

Teacher professionalism contains three essential characteristics, competence, performance and


conduct, which reflect the educator‘s goals, abilities, and standards, and directly impact the
effectiveness of teaching through the development of these qualities. To begin, the characteristic of
competence is fundamental in an educator‘s pursuit of excellence. A discussion on competence
focuses on three important ideas: preparation, knowledge of subject area, and defined pedagogy.
The first, preparation, prepares the professional for the adversity of the classroom. Pedagogy is the
art of teaching of one individual. A professional teacher educates so that students learn concepts
and apply them to their lives. Although this undermines the school‘s emphasis on state test results, a
quality educator prepares for the tests through this unique style of applying to his / her student’s
lives.

We all know that the teachers play a vital role in classroom also in our society. A professional is
trained to handle all situations, as most episodes in the classroom require quick thinking. Also,
teacher professionalism extends beyond one‘s ability to understand content; the educator must
discover if the students are being reached in an effective way. With the role of ―teacher becoming
more autonomous, an educator must be competent in their studies, perform well under the eye of
the administration and parents, while maintaining good conduct to facilitate quality communication.
Teaching is a profession. Teacher‘s training is an important component of teacher education.
Teachers are trained to build other professionals.

Aside from that presidential decree, there’s also an act that stated the qualities that must teacher
acquire. There’s an act that for those who have failed the licensure examination for professional
teachers, with a rating of not lower than five percentage points from the passing general average
rating, shall be eligible as para-teachers upon issuance by the Board of a two-year special permit,
renewable for a non-extendible period of two (2) years The para-teachers shall be assigned to areas
where there is a shortage or absence of a professional teacher, they commonly known as substitute
teachers. The special permit shall indicate the area of assignment of the para-teacher.

We as a future educator, it is important for us to know the basic law in our profession we choose so
that we are knowledgeable in that particular law that related to our career.

Chapter Five -Becoming a Professional Teacher

The Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers

I learned that being a professional teacher does not stop his task after taking special training,
exams and who gained license. Professional teachers are those who abide the code of ethics.

I realize that a teacher should be responsible enough towards his action and never use his
position to anything that will make his reputation tainted. I also realize that teachers must maintain
his name clean and should never commit mistakes on financial matters. Also from this lesson, I see
that it serves as guide and constant reminder for teachers; to follow what is right, being
professional, and aware of his responsibilities.

As a future teacher, the learning I have will surely serve as my companion to my career and as
a guide to avoid things that will make me a failure educator. As I really want to serve my future
students professionally and responsibly, I should follow the code of ethics of professional teachers.

CHAPTER SIX - Other Education and Teacher-Related Laws

In this chapter I understand How the effect of other education and teacher-related laws. Based what
I understand in this lesson law is very important to all of us because laws help us in our ability to do
good and to guide in the good way so that we need to follow the rule and regulation under the law.
And as far as I know if you are a good teacher you must need to follow under the law that’s why this
chapter help me to improved myself and skill to be a good teacher in the near future. I cannot
promise to all of you but I’m trying my best to be a global teacher. When I read the lesson 1 this
lesson represents the 1987 Constitution Article: XIV – Education, Science and Technology, Arts,
Culture and Sports. This lesson refers the quality of education in our community. We all know our
country shall protect and promote the right of all citizens to quality education at all level and shall
take appropriate steps to make such education accessible to all. In Science and Technology is shall
give priority to research and development, invention, innovation, and their utilization. That’s why
science and technology is very important to us. Art and culture represent the characteristics of all
Filipino who had saying the word of “PO” and “OPO” this characteristic is the one kind of tradition
and arts of our country. You may see the good values that the sign of being a Filipino. In Sport
usually its helps to us to our physical fitness and to maintained our body in good health at now sport
is our priority in life. Like this lesson challenge me and inspired me to teach, we all know in our
generation as now many students cannot listen to her teacher, many students become lazy but if I’ll
be the teacher I can handle my students in the good way.
Based what I understand about this lesson. This lesson represents to the effects to our country so
that when I read this lesson I gain a lot of ideas to the policy of our government. If I will pass in this
school year and finish studying. I will be a good teacher in the near future I want to share my
knowledge to other that’s why I am studying hard to pursue my dream. And we all know all policy
and rule of our government is good for us, so that we need to follow the rules and regulation as a
teacher. A good teacher is also a good follower. As a teacher in the near future, and when I read this
lesson, this lesson helps me to improve myself and to challenge myself to become a global teacher.
Next in this case, this lesson represents the right of parent under the existing law, all parent who had
have a children and enrolled in school that’s why this lesson help us to guide the parent if their
something wrong with their children. We just need to have an idea about this lesson if you are a
parent, so that we can help the teacher to teach and guide well. As far as I know we gain a lot of
knowledge to our teacher so that we need to cooperate to the teachers to guide our children in a
good way.

In this lesson represent an Act of Instituting a Framework of Governance for Basic Education, we all
know our DEPED or the Department of Education is the center of the Education so that as a student,
we gain a lot of knowledge Featured image to school if there is no teacher, there is no Educated
people that’s why other people lack of knowledge about this law, so that this lesson gives me an
idea that our teacher is our hero. These lessons help me to inspire better and challenge me to teach.

In this lesson Organizational Structure of the Department of Education Field Offices, this is shows
that the importance for a young and beginning teacher to know the structure and hierarchical levels
in the Department to understand the governance and also the communication of the flow in this
system.

In this case refers Excerpts from the family code of the Philippines this lesson represents the
Parental authority of parent over the person and property of their children, parental authority and
responsibility. So that this lesson gives me an idea to be open minded or to aware and cooperate
with the teachers. We all know we need to cooperate with the teacher to help our children to do
well. We need to open mind and communicate with the teacher in your owned goods that’s why this
lesson help us to improved our self and easy to understand that our teacher is the 2nd mother of a
children. This all lesson helps me to improved my skill, my knowledge and challenge myself to
become a global teacher.
