Installing Charts
Installing NOAA BSB Charts
MaxSea Planner is compatible with BSB Raster charts. The software comes pre-loaded with a worldwide chart. To open it, select [Open Charts] from the [File] menu and choose "Chart : Mapmedia2". Click on "Open".

To display detailed charts in your area of interest, you will have to install specific BSB charts. MaxSea will then automatically display the best charts for the scale that you select. Note that MaxSea uses a powerful algorithm that joins all of the charts on the screen for automatic, seamless coverage. You can install the free NOAA raster chart Using the NOAA BSB DVD (recommended) or by Downloading them manually on NOAA Web Site.

Install Detailed Charts Using The DVD


The free NOAA BSB DVD produced by Mapmedia contains all the NOAA raster charts for the USA (contact your dealer to obtain this DVD). When the DVD is inserted in the computer, it launches software that will install (or remove) NOAA BSB US charts on your computer (Install/ Uninstall/ Update). You will be able to select and copy only the chart area you need, allowing you to conserve hard disk space. If your PC's autorun feature is turned off, launch "Setup.exe" at the root directory of the DVD. The charts will be installed in "My Documents" inside a folder called "BSB_ROOT"

Note: The software that handles the installation and management of the NOAA Raster Charts might require a small add-on program (MS .NET Framework) which will be automatically detected and installed if it is required. You also need to have Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 (or later) on your computer. Please go to the Microsoft web site to obtain a newer version of Internet Explorer if you need to.
Once the charts have been successfully copied to your Hard-Drive, launch MaxSea and select [Open Charts] from the [File] menu. Choose "Chart : Maptech & NDI" in the list and click on "Open".

Note: You may see two items in the "Open Charts" dialog box (if you have leaved the DVD in your computer). Simply select the line that begins with "C:" (letter corresponding to your harddrive).
When the charts are installed and opened, you will see pink chart outlines on your screen where chart detail is available. Simply zoom in on an area to see better detail.

Tips : -To turn OFF the chart outline display, select [Option display...] from the [Display] menu. Uncheck the checkbox "Display Chart Outlines" and click on OK. - If you right-click on the Chart, you can change the scale. All available scales at this location appear in bold in the contextual menu.
Installing manually the detailed : If you don't have a DVD reader or you want to use charts that you have downloaded from the NOAA web site ( http://nauticalcharts.noaa.gov) >> Click here for more detail The Charts Catalog lists all the charts that you have opened in MaxSea. To open the Charts Catalog, [Charts Catalog] from the [File] menu.

Tips : You can center on a specific chart. Just select the chart in the catalog and click "Center On"

Download the Raster Charts from NOAA Web Site

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Proceed to NOAA RNC downloads

You can select the charts by clicking on the map (preferred) or by chart numbers. Click on Graphical

The Graphical Method uses Java to display the map. Just follow the link provided by NOAA if you dont have Java installed.

Note: The map can take several minutes to load before it appears.
When the map appears, click on the Zoom Mode tool.

When the Zoom Tool is selected, draw a box around your area. The map will change scale according to your selection. Change tools by clicking on the Selection Mode button. Drag an area with the mouse around the charts you want to download.

When the charts that you want are selected (surrounded in blue), click on Add to cart. The charts in the cart will be highlighted in pink.

When your selection is complete, click on Place Order. A list of all the charts you will download will be shown. Just click on Order Selection

You will download a zip file. Just unzip the file and put the folder BSB_ROOT in My Document Launch MaxSea and select [Open Charts] from the [File] menu then choose "Chart : Maptech & NDI". Click on "Open

Upgrade to a full version of MaxSea

To install the full version of MaxSea, just go to Add Remove Program from the Windows Control Panel and remove MaxSea Planner (MaxSea v12). Just insert the new MaxSea CD in your computer and follow the instructions (if the autorun of your CD is disabled, just open the CD drive and double click on Setup.exe). When the software is installed, just plug the dongle you received with the package and open MaxSea. All the charts, waypoints or routes you may have created with the MaxSea Planner will be available in the full version.
