A Detailed Lesson Plan in

Mathematics For Kindergarten

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, pupils are expected to:
A. Define “polygon”
B. Classify the types of polygons, and
C. Differentiate polygons by the number of sides and angles (3-10)

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Polygons
B. Reference: Internet Sites and YouTube Videos
C. Materials: Printed polygons and PowerPoint

III. Methodology

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY

A. Preparation
“Good morning too, teacher!”
“Good morning class!”

“How are you today?” “We’re good!”

“Very good! Now, let’s bow our head for the

prayer.” (The pupils will bow their head.)

“Dear Lord, we thank you for this day. Guide us in

our studies. Give us knowledge and wisdom. In
Jesus name, Amen.”

“Good morning, Jesus. Thank You, Jesus, I love “Good morning, Jesus. Thank You, Jesus, I love
You, Jesus. Good morning teachers. Good morning You, Jesus. Good morning teachers. Good morning
classmates. It’s nice to see you! God bless you! I am classmates. It’s nice to see you! God bless you! I am
smart, I am strong, I am healthy, I am happy. I’m a smart, I am strong, I am healthy, I am happy. I’m a
JILian, a character-driven leader!” JILian, a character-driven leader!”

“Very good kids! What is the day today?”

Monday, Teacher!
“Yes today is Monday, and what is our weather for
today?”
Sunny day, Teacher.
“Good Job, Kinder 2!”

B. Review of the Previous Lesson

“On our previous discussion, we discussed about

repeated subtraction using division, right?”
“Yes, Teacher!”

“Okay if you’re still remember it, please answer

this example. Write the division sentence and
subtraction sentence. And remember that the
dividend is the total of element, divisor is the
group and the quotient is the element per group,
Okay?”
“Okay, Teacher!”

(Students are answering.)

“You are all correct, Kids! Very good. Did you
already know now our last lesson?”

“Good Job, Kinder 2!”

“Yes, Teacher. We already get it.”
C. Motivation

“Now that we review our last lesson, let’s

proceed to our next lesson. We will watch a
video and just watch and listen. Okay, Kids?”

“Yes, Teacher!”
(Playing a video.)
https://youtu.be/zI3rUMrRLF8

“What did you notice in the video, Children?”

“Shapes, Teacher!”
“Yes shapes. Do you have idea what is our
lesson for today?”

“Okay, Children! Let me present again for our “No, Teacher.”

lesson for today.”

D. Presentation of the Lesson

“Our lesson for today is all about Polygons”

E. Discussion

So now, our topic for today is Polygons.

Polygon comes from a 2 Greek words.

Poly means “many”

Gon means “angles”
The whole concept of polygon is many angles.

Now, let’s proceed to the characteristics when

we are defining a polygon.

The first one is 2 Dimensional figure meaning it “Okay, Teacher.”

must as flat as a painting.

2nd it must be a close plain figure. And the last is

segment and it is composes of line segment.

Now, Children we have 2 kinds of polygons the

regular and irregular polygons.

When we say regular polygon all sides and all

angles are equal, the best example here is a
figure of square. And when we say irregular
polygon all sides nor angles are not equal, the
best example for this is the figure of a kite.

Did you already get it, Children?

“A little, Teacher”
Okay, Kids! Let’s proceed to the classification
of polygon.

As you have notice, is this the polygons that we

have watched in a video earlier?

Very good! Let us now identify the number of “Yes, Teacher”

angles and number of sides of this polygon.
Okay, Kids?

For the first polygon is triangle from the word

“Tri” means 3 but let’s count the sides and
angles.

1.. 2.. 3..

1.. 2.. 3..
Very good!

Next is quadrilateral, who wants to count the

sides and angles of this.
(Children raising their hand)
Yes? (Calls a name)

1.. 2.. 3.. 4.. 4 sides, Teacher!

4 sides and angles, good job! Quadrilateral from
the word “Quad” means 4.

The 3rd one is Pentagon, who wants to count

again?
(Children raising their hand)
Yes? (Calls a name)

Good job! Pentagon has 5 sides and angles. 5 sides, Teacher!

How about the hexagon? How many sides and

angles? Let’s count.

1.. 2. 3.. 4.. 5.. 6.. 6 sides and angles.

1.. 2.. 3.. 4.. 5.. 6.. 6, Teacher!
Good job, Kinder 2!

Next is heptagon from the word “Hepta” means

7. Heptagon has 7 sides and angles.

What’s next? Octagon. How many sides and

angles have? Who can count octagon?
(Children raising their hand)
Yes (Calls a name)

Very good! Octagon has 8 sides and angles. 1.. 2.. 3.. 4.. 5.. 6.. 7.. 8.. 8, Teacher!

Nonagon from the word “Nona” means 9,

nonagon has 9 sides and angles.

The last one is decagon, like a starfish from the

sea. Decagon has 10 sides and angles.

Do you already know the number of sides and

angles of the polygons?

“Yes, Teacher we know it already.”

Good job, Kinder 2!

F. Application
Our class discussion is already done. Please
bring your white board and marker or notebook
and I will show you a picture and you will count
and write the number of sides and angles of the
polygons. Okay, Children? “Okay, Teacher”
1.
Answers:

1. 8

2.

2. 3
3.

3. 6

4. What is the Greek word of POLY? 4. B. Many

A. Angles B. Many

5. Triangle from the word “TRI” How 5. A. 3

many sides and angles has the triangle
have?
A. 3 B. 10

Are you already done, Kinder 2?

Good job, Kids! You are all correct.

“Yes, Teacher” (Raising their white board)

G. Generalization
Again, Kinder 2. Polygons comes from 2 greek
words, poly means many and gon means angles.
So polygons means many angles. And when we
say regular polygons all sides and angles are all
equal.

H. Evaluation
Direction: Identify the polygons.
“You will identify what kind of polygon is that.
Choose the letter of the correct answer.”
Answers:

1.
1. A

A. Pentagon B. Quadrilateral

2.

2. B
A. Hexagon B. Decagon

3. What kind of polygon has the 9 sides

and angles?

A. Triangle B. Nonagon 3. B

4. When we say irregular polygon all sides

and angles are all equal.
4. F
T F
5. Polygons
5. What is our lesson all about?

“This is for your offline activity it will be posted

on our google classroom. You are going to print
it and answer during your asynchronous class.
After you answer this you are going to take a
picture of it and upload it on our google
classroom.”

“In this activity you are going to count the sides

and write it on the box provided.”

“And this another activity is for your offline

activity too. You will write the names of the
polygons based on their number of sides and
angles.”
“Is that clear Kinder 2?”

“Yes. Teacher Angel.”

“Very good, Children!

IV. Assignment

“You will make a 3 polygon and draw it in a

colored paper, count the sides and angles then
write it in below of your drawing, cut it and
paste it in a short bond paper. Take a picture of
it and upload it in our google classroom. Did
you get it, Kinder 2?”
“Yes, Teacher.”
“Good Job, Kinder 2! That’s all for today, thank
you for listening. God Bless!”

“Thank you, Teacher. Good bye!”
