COMPOUND SENTENCES

A compound sentence consists of two independent clauses which are combined by using:

a. A semi colon
It is a complicated problem; we cannot solve it.

b. Coordinator: and/but/or
It seems to be an easy problem but we cannot solve it.

c. Conjunction showing:
1. Contrast: however, nevertheless, yet.
It seems to be an easy problem; yet, we cannot solve it.

2. Addition: besides, moreover, in addition.

The rate of rooms in this hotel is relatively low; moreover, it has a beautiful scenery.

3. Result: therefore, consequently, that’s why.

4. Condition: otherwise, or.

holiday.
