Assignment 1: HR's Perspective

This assignment gives the summary of the interview that I conducted with Lindsay
Acron, Human Resource Manager. We had our conversation on the phone. This is how
it went.
Me: Hello, Madam. How are you?
Lindsay Acron, HR: Thanks for asking. I'm doing well.
Me: I have a few questions regarding the human resource department. Can you help
me out?
Lindsay Acron, HR: Go ahead.
Me: What are the critical responsibilities of your HR department?
Lindsay Acron, HR: The primary duties of HR are hiring new employees, ensuring
workplace health and safety, maintaining employee relations, arranging employee
remuneration and benefits, adhering to labor laws, and nurturing future leaders. The
duties enable the HR to conduct themselves effectively.
Me: Thank you for this response. Does HR face any challenges in their working
environment?
Lindsay Acron, HR: Yes, there are significant challenges faced by many in HR in their
working environment. Indeed, the HR department works with various concerns. Still, the
hiring of new employees, keeping current employees, motivating people to work,
leadership development, and corporate culture are perhaps the significant difficulties
they currently face. Addressing these difficulties has evolved into a continuous and
time-consuming process as HR attempts to take on a more strategic role.
Me: Since the Human resource department plays a critical role in the organization, are
there any outlined strategies the organization has employed to deal with these
problems?
Lindsay Acron, HR: Of course, as a department, we are doing all we can to handle
some of these challenges. For instance, there is a strategic plans employed by the
organization to address its significant challenges. One of them is to attract new talents
through social media platforms for recruitment and granting benefits for the retention
and motivation of employees. Also, the HR department ensures company ethics are
followed to address corporate culture and leadership development through training,
mentoring, and succession planning for leaders.
Me: Finally, what is the profile of a successful HR professional?

Lindsay Acron, HR: To me, no specified profile is attached to the successful HR

profession. However, I believe that having strong personal skills is the key to success in
every job. It is because human resource deal with people management, and this

encompasses the ability to handle various personalities, resolve conflicts, and coach
others. Thus, an excellent human resource management expert can convey good news
when hiring new employees, terrible news when an individual is laid off, and anything in
between, including changes to the policy through emotions.

Reflection and Personal Response

I tend to agree with what Lindsay Acron, Human resource manager, shared with me. In
essence, the Human resources department oversees employees' salaries, benefits, and
careers; thus, organization skill is a crucial requirement (Stone et al., 2020). Indeed, I
believe that success, in this case, will depend on having ordered computer files and
effective time management techniques. At the same time, multitasking is also essential
in managing human resources since many tasks are done in the department (Stone et
al., 2020). Human resources also require ethics and a sense of justice (Stone et al.,
2020). Ethics is a notion that looks at a situation's moral right and wrongs. Being
knowledgeable in particular work areas, such as maintaining the personnel database,
comprehending employment regulations, and being able to draft and create a strategic
plan that is in line with the business (Stone et al., 2020), is another approach of a
professional HR. Strategic thinking is an experienced HR talent as well. An individual
with a strategic mindset can make long-term plans and keep an eye out for trends that
may impact the enterprise's environment.
