The importance of living in the

moment
Are you living your life moment by moment? Or are you immersed in the past
or worrying about the future?

We could say there are two doors in the life: one with ‘past’ painted on it in bold
letters, the other with ‘future’. One we know; the other is uncertain but we also
have something else: the key to both of these doors. It is present. Yesterday is a
history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift that is why it is called present. Past
is something you cannot change, future is something that you do not know but
present is something that is in your control. You have present in your hand. Living
in the present is the most important thing. Past is a nice place to visit but not a
good place to stay. Thinking about the past will make you sorrowful, depressed
and anxious. Life is available only in the present moment. Crying over the past
will not change your present so it is better to do something in the present to get a
better life. Some people are always busy in making plans for the future. Planning
everything is a good thing but a good plan implemented today is better than a
perfect plan implemented tomorrow. Life is like an ice cream. Enjoy it before it
melts. Enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now.

I am a strong advocate of the idea that we should appreciate every second of our
life. We should realize that life is beautiful right now. We should see the beauty
in small things for example it might be a conversation with a good friend, or
reading a good book, or taking a peaceful walk. In my estimation, it is the real
happiness. Do not wait for something you make you happy tomorrow. Do not
dwell in the past; do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the
present moment. Focusing on the current moment brings more pleasure into our
lives.

There are some tips for people who want to start living in the moment

1) SMILE

If you want to know how to live in the moment, you just have to look in the
mirror and smile. Smile — it can influence how you feel. Scientific American Mind
magazine reports that making an emotional face influences how we feel. The
magazine adds that there is an association in our mind between how we feel and
how we react. If we feel happy, we smile. If we smile, it makes us feel happy.
2. PERFORM RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS

Random acts of kindness, those selfless acts that help others, help you live for the
moment of making others smile, and making you smile as well. Random acts of
kindness are just that — random. They are spontaneous, in the moment, and a
great addition to your daily life.

The next time you see that person walking in the rain offer them your umbrella․
The elderly woman struggling with her groceries? Carry them for her. One of the
easiest lessons for how to live in the moment is to do something for someone else
without expecting anything in return.

3․ GIVE THANKS

Be thankful. Sounds easy, doesn’t it? But it isn’t always. It doesn’t have to be
Thanksgiving for you to feel grateful and express that gratitude.

Every now and then, remember to stop and take stock of just how good you have
it. When your friend makes you smile, thank her for being in your life. When your
boss gives you a new task, say thanks, remembering that you still have a job and
can put food on the table. When you think it or feel it, say it right then. Live in the
moment by expressing your gratitude when you feel it.

4. DON’T WORRY

It is much harder than it sounds, but try to remember that worrying today will not
change what happens tomorrow. Every second you spend in worry about the
future is a second of the present wasted. Because worrying takes you out of this
moment and transports you into the realm of future possibilities, it is impossible
to live in the moment and worry at the same time.

5. Living in the moment—also called mindfulness

Mindfulness—is a state of active, open, intentional attention on the present.
When you become mindful, you realize that you are not your thoughts; you
become an observer of your thoughts from moment to moment without judging
them. Mindfulness involves being with your thoughts as they are, neither grasping
at them nor pushing them away. Instead of letting your life go by without living it,
you awaken to experience. Mindful people are happier, more exuberant, more
empathetic and more secure. They have higher self-esteem and are more
accepting of their own weaknesses
In conclusion, I Would like to quote the words of Mahatma Gandhi: "Live as if you
were to die tomorrow, learn as you were live to forever".
