iCool - I applied to 5 schools and got admitted to all of them so it wasn't an easy decision to
make. [In my mind.... Vo must hear this..]

Other schools have ongoing researches in Security and safety, healthcare.... [Vo cuts in...

iCool - As I was saying, others schools have ongoing research options in safety and security,
transportation and shipping, healthcare and manufacturing but Tamuk offers an Operations
research option in Energy and Oil and Gas production which is the industry I currently work
in.

Vo - What was your undergraduate degree in?

iCool - [didn’t hear clearly, so I asked him to repeat and he did]
iCool - Mechanical Engineering. [Vo excuses himself again... switches mic off... slides back
to talk to someone again]
Vo - Tell me about your course.
iCool - Industrial Engineering is a branch of engineering that deals with the design, analysis,
evaluation and optimization of large systems and processes taking into consideration their
interaction with machines, materials, and manpower. (I mentioned 5 considerations... can't
recall all..)

Vo - What courses would you be doing.

iCool - Lean manufacturing, Advanced problems in I.E, Six sigma n ISO standards,
Reliability Theory, Linear Programming... I named like 8. [He cuts me off...]

Vo - What is this scholarship in? [I didn't understand the question, replied all the same cos I
didn't want to ask him to repeat...]
iCool - I got a tuition waiver which entitles me to an in-state tuition payment and also I got a
$1k scholarship which covers some costs of books.

Oga Sir started circling pick up location and said you want to pick up at Port Harcourt?...

iCool - Yes Sir

He handed me back my i20, said and I heard all - 'you will need this at the point of entry' as
he was giving me the white paper.

Greetings everyone,

Have been a silent follower of this thread for about seven months and i promised myself to
post transcript when i have my visa approved. A day without reading people's transcript and
contribution is like missing an episode of a series movie. I read all the way from part four till
date and gained immensely from everyone's contribution.
I never envisaged the nature of the interview i had today. It was pure grace favor, luck and
mercies of God that worked for me today. Over- preparation worry me no be small because
have been developing transcript for over 4 months and kept editing every now and then.
Interview went thus:

VO: Good morning, passport and I-20

Me: Good Ma'am
VO: Tell me your study plan
ME: I am going to; VO cuts, she dint even allow me say anything before interrupting
VO: What do you
ME: I work with; VO cuts again, she dint let me complete my sentence.
VO: Do you have any certificate and what did you study in your undergraduate
ME: I studied Business Administration and am also a graduate member of NIM
VO: Started typing for ages. She barely looked at my face all through the interview process.
Your visa has been approved and i was given a pick letter.

No document was asked.

VISA APPROVED THIS MORNING... It was GOD really, only 3 questions asked,
interview did not last up to about 1min. Thanks to everyone who has contributed and
responded to my questions.

a big smile on his face)
ME: Good morning I am fine( I gave him the passport and all other doc,including ds160,
sevis, gtb receipt. He selected the i20 and the passport out and returned the others.)
VO : Tell me about the information technology program at NIU
ME: Actually the program name is MIS not IT ( but I.T was written on the i20 form)
VO : He looked at the I20 , Okay just tell me about the MIS program at NIU
ME: I will be taking courses like ( I listed some of the courses), I will be completing the
program in approximately 24 months, (He cuts in)
VO: What is your undergraduate course
Me: Business Administration
VO : Why the switch
ME : It is really not a switch, Business administration covers, MIS, HRM, marketing and few
others and businesses in Nigeria is moving from manual systems to automated systems of
operation, computerized methodology is being integrated in business procedures even in
decision making (I stopped immediately I saw him take my pp and kept it inside the small
basket and brought out the white paper )

I am not sure if he said your visa has been approved or all that formalities, only what I heard
was when he gave me back my i20 and said you will be needing this and circled the white
collection paper. I said thank you sir.

F-1 student visas can be issued up to 120 days in advance of your course of study start date.
However, you will not be allowed to enter the United States in F-1 status earlier than 30 days
before your start date

so do the maths and count 120 days backwards from your i20 start date ... any date within the
120 days you can go for interview . Regarding answers you best know what your career goals
are , nobody can answer that for u . You have numerous transcript here to use as a guide and
build from it ..........regarding what your chances are , nobody can predict that as its left for
the VO . you just prepare well and leave the rest for God or who u believe in.

To GOD alone be all the glory.... Greater things HE has done. GOD came through for me
today. 6:30am appointment at Lagos Consulate. The second person to be approved.

Me = I went for the compulsory one year NYSC and started a management trainee program
with xxxxx which I completed last month and I have been confirmed as staff. But I was
granted a study leave.

V. O = How do you hear about the school ? So you have bsc in chemical engineering and
going for MSc in Same field.... I said yes quickly

Me = It was recommended to me by a senior colleague I worked with during the EGINA oil
field project and I went further to make extensive research on the Internet and I found a
research which tallies with my work experience and career goals.

V. O = what do your mum and dad do for living?

Me = My mom is a successful business woman and one of the major distributors of dangote
cements in Ekiti State.

V. O = cuts in your Daddy ?

Me = He was an Engineer but he is late now. So my mom manages the properties he left
behind.

V. O = what's your position in your family

Are u the last born ?
ME = Yes I am..... I have two successful happily married elder sisters. One an accountant
and the other a nurse.

V. O = where would you be staying in Usa ?

Me = I will be staying at the school hostels... The school has 3 hostels namely........ But I
prefer Peterson hostel and the process is on going

V. O = She just kept my passport inside the approval box and gave me a white paper.....
Meanwhile she has dropped my passport before the last question....

I wrote no exams..(though it was waived for me) . No document was asked.... I applied to the
school after second Canada refusal in August. GOD came through for me and compensated
me for the previous Canada ish. My school is South Dakota school of mines and technology.

Hey all,

I have applied for F1 visa a couple of months ago but was denied it. At the time of
application, I was a senior-year bachelor student, now I'm a graduate.
My visa application was on a 10-week English programme.

The interview went as follows:

VO: hello, have a seat please

Me: hello
VO: why do you want to study English in X state?
Me: why do I want to study English in X state ?
VO: yes

Me: well, my friend last year has joined the same programme and his English has improved
by a great deal, specially his writing skills

VO: So, you have your family in the US?

Me: Yes, my parents and one sibling. For my sibling has X disease and is there for medical
treatment.

VO: How long have your family been there?

Me: almost 4 months

VO: what is their visa?

Me: Medical treatment, visitor

VO: Are you a current student?

Me: yes, a senior-year student.

VO: what is the duration of the English programme?

Me: 10 weeks

VO: ( typing for a while) I cannot approve your visa, you are not eligible.
Me: ok thanks.

I still am not sure about the reason of rejection.

I repeated the first question because I didn't know what the VO meant; why do I want to
study English? Or why do I want to study in X state?
Now that I am a graduate, what are my chances of getting an F1 visa based on the same
programme, and having my parents and sibling as asylum seekers in the US?

* I'm not intending to stay in the US beyond the period of stay of the programme.

I am surprised you put in a visa for this Category.... Nigeria is an English speaking country
so why would u need a visa to attend a 10 weeks english course and u currently have a
sibling in the US....this would just scream runaway migrants to any VO .

So now u still want to apply for this same category knowing fully well your family are
asylum seekers. I dont think thats a very wise decision. U already have the odds against u
since ur family is seeking asylum, which means u need to even show more credibility so
nothing less than a proper degree course for me should be your target

Thanks for you collaboration. I am not from Nigeria, I rather am from an Arab, developing
country.
I believe an appropriate degree like Master's is a good choice as you mentioned. However,
any good alternatives to show that I'm not a candidate for migration?

In addition to a credible program , you would need to show home ties as well .......something
tying you to your home country like maybe spouse in your home country , financial
investment at home, job u are coming back to etc .....

Good evening my nana people. I need an advise from you, I have been to the embassy twice
between August 31st and October 13th but was refused, I went with devry university Keller
graduate school of management i20. 12th intervew sessions were brief but I was refused.
I now have anothr i20 from Western illinoi university for spring, now, my mom I my sponsor
as against an uncle that we don't even bear the same surname but I applied earlier for Masters
in network and computer management but at WIU, I applied for Physics. I have 6 years
working experience in IT at a commercial bank, I want to appear again, please help me with
advise.

I then asked him what is the problem exactly since I'm being refused on the same ground
with the first time, he told me all the reasons are contained in the blue sheet of paper handled
to me
Now, I have admission at WIU, I'm single at 33, the course is not related with my work
experience, what advise can i get please? Classes start this January

You need to stop changing schools , courses and sponsors because that will soon ring bells of
an intending runaway migrant....... especially if u changing to courses not related

Did u write any test ? ...all that also adds to credibility. Your first rejection was Devry
University ....that school is a big No no . Its mainly an online school amd hardly a good
school.
Make sure your next interview is for a credible school and u have good test scores and be
ready to sell yourself experience and future goals well and immediately and be ready to
answer what changed in your application . Take each question as an opportunity to sell why u
are there

Do you know about this course? Not just stating it, you ought to have gone ahead to explain
it. This is what the VO wanted from you. And the best way is to show how smart you are by
giving good response.

You missed the English. The man already seen your I-20 and wanted to clarify if you really
know what you are doing. Do you know about and what is, of course is not the same.

For instance, do you know about "Business Administration" means I want you to tell me
more about this major. I want you to talk like a smart person. Whereas, what is your course
or major requires you to simply say "Business Administration."

He later became disappointed or angry and asked you to read the paper he gave you.

Hope you got my dripts? Sorry for your denial. Just stay more here and read past transcripts,
you shall get your visa next time.

Visa delayed today window 4, 6.30am Lagos

Me - before i open my mouth i saw my passport and she was saying come back next time i
cannot approve your visa at this time. I didnt say anything or ask a question, i was sad.

Mehnnn i am down right now, she didnt ask me anything all i read and practice was like
waste, she was just answering questions for me. I dont know what to do right now.

Since the day i paid Sevis i couldnot sleep well. All i could think of is Nov 15th, US
embassy, VO questions etc. Fast forward to the embassy gate, i saw so many huslers around
calling customers to come and print, staple , take passport and all. I did the normal screening
and my transcript goes like this :

Guys, please i need some clarification. I'm a little confused on whether to put a faculty's
name on my MS personal statement or not. On one hand, i feel if i don't put it, the admissions
committee might not know which faculty to ask if there's vacancy, which might lead to
denial; on the other hand, i think if i include a faculty's name and the faculty happens not to
have a vacancy in his lab, that might also be denial...what do you guys think?

Well, Only the admison commitee can answer this well. i felt like this 2 while i was writing
my sop 2 then. I played smart and included like 2 to 3 faculty members in my sop...had 5
admits out of 6....Said that just for you to make a better judgement. see an excerpts from my
sops ''I have chosen to pursue graduate studies at the Bleep State University because by
working under the guidance of distinguished professors like Prof Ayman Okeil, Prof Aly-
Mousaad Aly and Prof Michele Barbato, whose interests match closely with mine, I am

Hi guys, my visa was delayed on Monday by 7am window 9, the hall was crowded and vos
kinda strict that day.

I had an admission at Central Michigan University, but like I posted earlier in this forum, the
major in my i20 was liberal arts and sciences, I sent an email to the admission school asking
why that was given when I was expected to have Information technology, they relief that,
that's the norm that the main major shall be given up on arrival at the school, I had no choice
but to start studying on what liberal arts and sciences is all about.
Now back to the interview. Which last for less than 2mins
In the cubicle were 2vos, I guess a junior was standing while the senior was sitted and he
interviewed me.
Vo: what's your study plan
Me; im going to cmu to pursue a bachelors in liberal arts and sciences which will last
approximately 36months
Vo:What was your previous degree in,
Me: computer science from the university of ibadan.
Vo: what benefit will this course be to you
Me: it will boost my managerial skills and make me more effective in my communication
skills and my mode of reasoning ethically.
Next he typed for like a minute and gave me the 214b booklet and my passport.
Now, I've contacted the school and explained everything to them, they apologised and even
said they are making my case an exception and giving sending me another I20 that will have
the major in information technology, , the officer suggested that I should defer the admission
till fall intake as time may not be OK to book for another appointment. School resumes 9tj
January for spring.

Sorry about your denial but i think i have mentioned it to you. .... you have a Bsc in
Computer science so to say you are going for another bsc in information technology is very
hard to convince a VO. .... both degrees are very similar and doesn't show progression.
Especially when your first degree is from Uni of Ibadan which at least in Nigeria standard is
a reputable school so u should show progression

Thanks to all the wonderful guys and ladies here who take time to answer questions and

contribute their knowledge for the benefit of other aspiring students. My visa was approved

at the Abuja Consulate Office today at 7.30am; it was a sad sight: the amount of

denials/delays issued to my fellow Nigerians. I was actually the first approved after up to 20

before me were given yellow papers; I was optimistic and cheerful (I've done my best in

preparation and left the rest to God).

When my turn finally came, I was met face-to-face with a VO I had earlier met at a US

College Fair held sometime in October this year. When I met him then, he was actually

promoting his alma mater(can't remember the school now though). I asked him a simple

question:
Why do you guys issue lots of visa denials? He candidly replied me that all an intending

student needs to prove is that he is a genuine student:

How many schools did he/she apply to?;

Did he/she take any standardized tests?;

How truthful and clear re the information on his DS-160?

What are his/her long term career plans and how does it fit?;

Can he/she justify the reason why he/she needs to gain this education/degree abroad instead

of in his home country?

How can he/she convince me that he/she's coming back after studies?

These are basically the questions that have been asked and answered here a thousand times.

VO: Why are you going to University of Central Missouri?

me: To pursue a MS Degree in Computer Information Systems

VO: Is that the only schools you applied to?

me: I applied to 5 Universities (named them)

VO: Why did you choose UCM?

me: (shortened version) It offered the best fit for my career growth in terms of its curricula

content which include software engineering, information security, DBMS, bla bla bla...

VO: What do you currently do?

me: I work as the Confidential Secretary as well as Head of ICT at Federal XYZ..

VO: Have you been outside the country before?

me: No sir, I haven't.

VO: Are you married?

me: Yes sir, with a 9-month old daughter.

VO: Why are they not traveling with you?

me: My wife is currently at work at Federal XYZ; they'll come visit next year during her

annual leave; moreover its a two-year program so she can't be granted a two-year leave of

absence to join me during my studies.

Then the white paper and the instructions...

No documents (financial/test scores) were requested...

(Funny enough, I knew he recognized me but we both feigned ignorance of that - he was

doing his job of course)

Through this journey, I've learned the following:

1. You are tagged an ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT until you convince them otherwise. EVERY

SINGLE question asked you proves or disproves this point.

2. You must do your homework: Take standardized tests; rigorously research your schools to

ensure they are accredited; Let other experienced people help you enhance your transcript

and offer better ideas/angles on how to answer these questions (You need to be GUIDED!);

above all, you have to SELL yourself (be bold, be convincing, be well articulated - you don't

need to memorize your answers so you don't sound like a robot).

3. Trust and put your faith in God. I met up with a fellow guy (same profile: married with

kids) who was unsuccessful after the interview; on conversing with him, his answers were

quite articulate, but yet, it didn't fly. I encouraged him to re-apply and work on his ties, as

well as how his program can best fit his career progression.
When you've prepared to the best of your abilities, trust God to complete it...even if you fail,

do not relent.

Spent d night in a friends house @ Somolu. We talked into d night and only had d privilege
of sleeping around 12:04am. Between that time and 3:30am, I checked the time for about 5-
7times (Man must not wake up late o). Left d home @ around 4:56am and was a d consulate
@ 5:40am.

.... (Mentioned only one and I immediately forgot all d other courses wey I don cram. Was
about to stammer for few secs but Immediately switched to anoda thing instead of trying to
remember). These will take an estimate of 36months after which I will be coming back to
Nigeria to lecture.

VO: How did you get to know about the school

Me: I searched online for courses related to Food Technology and saw that I could do a
masters in Human services with concentration in Food and nutrition

VO: Which school did you graduate from.

ME: I graduated from Yaba College of Technology.

VO: Which course

i was scared like hell when i woke up, i went to a solitary and i prayed, confidence regained.
on getting to the embassy the queue was long mehn... fast forward, we entered the interview
room, did normal paparazzi (biometeric). i saw a lots of yellow paper flying helter skelter,

everything with faith and i didn't put all my hope on the visa, so i was very relaxed even in

finish.. in all, confidence is the key ,yes i was nervous when i started seeing blue paper from
left to right, but i stayed calm, and i spoke with so much confidence and am sure no single
person behind me heard my transcript cos i didn't have to shout to impress the vo i spoke my

Visa approved today 28th 7:15 am appointment, Lagos. Was asked only 3 questions.

Back date to 27th, arrived lagos at about 7:00 pm. Fesobi (thanks bro) already told me how to

locate a hotel at Lewis street obalende. Checked in and was seriously hungry from the

journey. The hotel had only EBA and eguisi soup. Haa..I didn't want to eat anything that

would affect my body system as I and eguisi have not been on good terms for a while

now(make I nor go dey sh*t for embassy). Went out to look for something more suitable to
eat. All the while, the visa interview was on my mind (how would it go? Hope I get a white

paper? What shud I even wear? Hope my punk (hairstyle) will not disqualify me? Hope a

Jean won't be too casual? etc)

I just took the food back to the hotel, ate and revised the 3 questions I felt were most

important to me( what are u goin to do in the USA?, How did u find out about this sch?, Why

did u choose this school). I knew I'd be able to handle any other question thrown at me, but

those 3 questions had to be given perfect answers).

Interview day. Arrived the consulate at about 6:30am. Waited for a while then a man told

those of us for 7:15 to queue up. Did all d formalities and we got into the hell.

A lot of persons were being denied cos I was seeing blue slips. Didn't loose focus tho. Was

trying to strike up a conversation with some peeps while waiting for biometrics but no one

was willing to talk (in my mind, I was like: haa! Why una just serious like dis nawww).

While waiting I heard someone's interview and he was really doing great with the while Lady

VO at the extreme end. When he mentioned the name of his school, I just knew who it was

cos we had been in communication via contact gotten here on NL (he is right here on this

thread). His visa was approved too (the Lady VO obviously had no choice).

Now my interview:
VO: Goodmorning Hw are u

Me: I'm well thanks (smiling)

VO: Pass me ur passport and i-20

Me: Here u go (passing it to him and smiling)

VO: Types for a while...(checks the i-20 again and murmurs *Valparaiso* How did u know

about this school?

Me: My senior colleague in the office had his Msc in this same school. He is pretty good

with his job. That is enough testament to the soundness of the program...(paused for a while)

then continued talking.... Hence, I thought to apply and I got admitted.. And here am I today.

VO: You said you work for .........company, what does the company do?

ME: Its a conglomerate into several business segments of the Nigerian economy from

shipping to maritime to oil and gas to IT etc.

VO: Okay. Passes me the white paper..Pick up your passport at Isolo after...bla bla bla (didn't

even hear the other things he said: I only heard have a nice day and I said thank you and left).

I was surprised cos I was expecting more questions. No documents, didn't even ask about

sponsor, or the number of schs applied to..I really give thanks to God and this wonderful

thread.

Someone gave me an advise that I used and (maybe) it worked. Maybe it will work for

someone too:

1). Don't be nonchalant with the interview but find a way to come through to the VO as really

interested (but not interested) in the visa. Be calm when speaking and be bold too.
2). Dress comfortably. A suit may not be necessary. Wear something that ud be confident in.

I wore a Jean and v-neck T-shirt. When I looked round the interview room, a lot of peeps

wore suits or at least tucked in their shirts. I almost let it affect me (tinking I was under-

dressed) but I didn't. Trust me when I say I was the only one wearing a jean and T-shirt (with

good shoes tho ) cos that's how I dress. I'm not really a suit person (last time I wore one

was during the job interview where I currently work).

So, be comfortable in whatever u put on (whether suit, jean or native).

3). Be confident, maintain eye contact with the VO.

Above all, Pray and let God take control. Wishing u all the best.

Appointment was for 9:15 and I arrived by 8:00 a.m at the Lagos Consulate. The queue was
very long and by the time we entered I was already tired and couldn't wait to get it over with.

So i asked you this question , U meet me on the road and i tell you this , would u say i am a

serious person or not ......An visa with VO is also an interview , if you cannot sell yourself
to be a serious person then wahala dey oo ... This has just told the VO that you might not
complete in the USA as well ............ . I adviced you to do a transcript and review with
others before your interview , did you do that ?

Why didn't you jus tell the truth of the diploma you mentioned to the group you already had
but didn't fill in Ds 160??
Why did you tell Vo that you were a school drop out after just one semester??
From what I can see here...you have no interest in school and you are likely to abandon
studies in the USA as well to go and work.

you need to be sincere when feeling your form then....put your work experience in the
hospital(hospital name and role) from 2011 till when u got admission
Then put the exact course you studied and exact date u started and finished (2013-
2015)...civil engineering and the company you did IT with (All this would show you have
not been idle)....tell them you had to work after sec school as u could not gain admission
early and u did not want to remain idle..then hospital experience brought about wanting to
read a course related to health care u developed passion for...

Then finally if they ask why Bio engineering...you need to explain how you developed a
passion in the medical and health care sector from your experience in the hospital...
You say you wanted bio engineering but the gave you civil engineering...and since both are
in engineering field but different sectors you would like to focus more on health sector(if
they ask why the change from civil to Bio)..then explain how Bio engineering (BME) is the
application of engineering principles and design concepts to medicine and biology for
healthcare purposes...read very well about the course and how you intend to apply it here in
Nigeria to your dad's hospital I presume

Basically the magic key here is going to be how well you sell yourself out and the confidence
you show when speaking
NB- there would be some engineering modules that both those in civil and Bio would do am
sure
Also read transcripts of people that have been interviewed in this forum on how to answer
questions thrown at you properly....and compare it to your past performance which was poor

You need to take a chill pill man. CALM DOWN!!!. Your case is not IMPOSSIBLE but you
can make going amelika IMPOSSIBLE for yourself with inconsistent information. You no
see "willfully misrepresenting information" = BAN. Haba, calm down na.
Changing from civil Eng to medical lab tech is like **danger alarm** to the vo. he/she will
just be scared of you and once he knows you misrepresent information. mehn, nah those
soldiers wey dey outside go nab you. kuje straight.
The way forward now is to fill what you filled before. read ajomarzy's comment again. it the
key.
Don't say you work in your dads hospital. Say you worked as a clinical engineer (it the
closest to civil Eng work in a medical setting) at an hospital(name the hospital). wondering
what a clinical engineer does? is
the role of the clinical engineer to furnish the new
structure with medical equipment, by integrating the
constraints of these devices in the building. At each
stage of the building process, the clinical engineer must
contribute to a specific mission of interface between the
building and the equipment, identifying and anticipating
constraints, and taking care of the good preparation of
the integration of this equipment in existing buildings or
buildings yet to be created.
During this period, you got interested in the application of engineering to medicals, and you
figured biomedical engineering will enable you do this cos it deals with the application of
engineering design and so so and so to medicals. skikena.
Again, calm down. Anxiety will only help dhl the next denial to your doormot. so, calm

no documents asked. i didn't write any single exam... i did everything with faith and i didn't
put all my hope on the visa, so i was very relaxed even in the midst of the denials, i still
composed my self, looked straight into her eyes from start to finish.. in all, confidence is the
key ,yes i was nervous when i started seeing blue paper from left to right, but i stayed calm,
kept on repeating inside myself "i've got this". I spoke my mind.

2.dress like a student..not too shabby and not too much

3. Staple all your documents together and print the original documents oo
4.don't ever go white your phone oo for real except to have 1k to spare
5. Smile with the v.o act like you know the v.o and has been living with him/her
6. Find a way to ad eac( education advising center inshort go there one Wednesday before
your date it is free 9am -1pm..you will learn a lot about visa issues) if you say eyec they can
never deny you because narh them them initiate am narh...they no go ask for your id card at

I have gone for US interview for four time now and I was denied, the last two times I went I
can't really say why I was denied... am planning to go again Nxt year after my OND... and
there is this question they asked me last time. They asked me "what has changed since the
last time I came for interview?" can someone help me with the right answer

This is not something that you can make up an answer.

They want you to prove that things have changed in your life that will make you return home
after your trip.
Better job with letter from employer
Married, Children.
Landed property that you must manage.
These things do not happen or change in a week, but in years.

My Visa Approval transcript......

my appointment was 7am, arrived at the embassy some few minutes before the time,
thereafter a lady came to meet us outside and shouted 7am,7;15;7;30 come this
way....blahblahblah. did everything and eventually into the visa room. Well, quite crowded as
expected. I joined the que thought it was the visa interview queue sef but a lady in the
window just collected my document did somethings on the computer and returned my docs
then to another queue for finger printing by one bearded big white man, then finally to the
real queue...

Me: My senior colleague is a product of this school also i made my search using the
keywoprd information security management so i got some response and i applied to some
schools(meanwhile she was nodding her head and typing)

My Little advice,
dont be too over concious, u might just find yourself blabbing.
dont keep your confidence till the interview proper, let it start with the first person that attend
to you from the window cos who knows approval might start from the first widow-to finger
print window- and the interview proper, they are all potential VOs.
Also please PRAY, PRAY and PRAY. i fasted for this and prayed, pls pray. My Course was
just a 7-months certification program.

Hello guys, I'm here again to share some of my experiences here and most of them were also
learned from others mistake.

1. DO NOT, i repeat DO NOT ask someone in this USA to help you get admission or to take
you through procuring your F1 Student visa. Reason been that most of the Naija guys here
are really not seeing money, as a result, they exploit their fellow Naija brothers and sisters in
Nigeria pretending to help them. A friend of mine who landed here is crying bitterly, because
his classmate who is currently in USA now helped him get admission, etc, but before he
procured this victims admission, the victim payed him close to $2000 (the money was not
sent in a whole but was totaled after calculated different fees he came up with which could
hinder his victim's admission). There is more, the victim was supposed to study in Maryland,
but as a result of the expensive tuition, the guy asked his victim to move down to the state
where he is at, that he would help him transfer his admission. After all said and done, the guy
requested more money in order to help my friend transfer his admission to another school
(note: my friend in question has no means of getting money, in fact his father had to send all
the money he realized when he sold his land to this same guy). As a result of not identifying
with the international student office in Maryland when he arrived, the school in Maryland
terminated his I-20 hence making him to fall out of status. At the time when this was
happening, my friend was already living with him. Suddenly the guy started requesting
tenant fees from him and later chased him out of his house (remember that this was his
classmate and even one of his best friends at school back then). However, through the Grace
of God, he is now reinstated and applied to another school who helped to get the school in
Maryland to revoke their termination of his I-20. Now he has a new I-20, has his SSN and is
working part time.

This is a very TRUE story and I wish we could all learn from it. Unless you have someone
you can trust like a related family member or a very trustworthy friend.

2. If you are intending to settle in this country after studies (Work or Marry), better be
prepared to work on your grades (if you wanna work and get a company to file for you), try
to be careful with your relationship with any woman here. Always think of what you want
out of a relationship and be genuine, DO NOT go through the ARRANGEMENT means (it
have really messed a lot Naija guys up). However, if you think after you guys must have
dated for a long time, that you are ready to commit yourself into Marriage, then be ready to
keep it. Marriage here na one thing, being Engaged is another (E no dey like naija where you
can easily give it up). I am not writing this to scare you off, but also to let you know what it
is on the long run, I have had a little experience though and I know what I am saying in
essence. Do not jump into marriage for the sole purpose of GC. (two things are involved if
you divorce her: Alimony or Child support, most a times both and if start paying for it...my
dear, you'll never finish) If an American woman or man tells you that she loves you, Guy go
heaven come down S/HE DOES (she no go hide anything from you, not even her fart ,
although most of them do).

3. A part from applying for Jobs on-campus, try looking for little jobs during the winter like
shoveling snows which pays in cash. in fact you can make not less than $10 to $15 per hour
of snow shoveling. I presently sing for a Catholic church here and they pay me in cash
without my SSN.
4. Always seek for advises from people, most esp. Nigerians here (whether they give you bad
or good advice, you'll decide on which one to make up your mind for, at least it gives you an
option!).

5. The rate wey some "companies" or "scammers" will call you either for a tax refund
payment or any type of unknown-won money is indisputable, always try to listen and allow
the caller to talk first and see what he or she is calling for (I mean for numbers you did not
save on your phone).

6. Car for America no be big man show, I can even see people riding 1978 cars and still have
a good paying job. So do not look at some Nigerians that pose on facebook with their newly
bought cars as them "making it". My dear, if they tell you rate of insurance they pay for it
every month, you'll decide to ride a bicycle to school every day. My point is, settle down first
and take everything one step at a time. Always make each step a calculated movement. A
goal without a plan is like a wish.

7. Pray. Pray. Pray. (Whether you be Muslim or Christian). It is a pity that most of us here
only pray when they are in hardship, but imagine if we always prayed everyday, even if we
mistakenly entered into trouble, God will surely find a way (I'm using the above story of my
friend as a case scenario, nothing is impossible for God to do, NOTHING GOOD).

That is it for now...I wish those scheduled for December interview a huge success! I wish

the processes taken before getting to the consular officer and neither must u feel aghast if

someone's visa is rejected just mind ur business and try to chill with some people before

getting in for screeniin just to gain confidence.

Posting for the second time now... Visa approved this morning at about 8:38am.
my interview was scheduled for 7:45am but i already arrived the venue as at 7:05am but i felt
i still had time to cross my T's and dot my i's. So, i approached the venue at about 7:35am
and i learnt that they are calling 8:15am already.. i just joined a queue. passed the first check
point, to the second and to the third.. after getting to the fourth check point, i was returned to
the first check point for an announcement that was made before i joined the queue on how
the documents should be arranged.
I pleaded with the lady that i am for 7:45 and time is already past and you are calling other
batches already.. just tell me how to arrange but she insisted that i go back which i did. This
almost destabilized me
This time, it did not take as much time as it took me to get to that forth check point..
meanwhile as i stood on the queue, i was trying to remember all i had crammed but i was still
skipping some and i knew that could be a problem for me but i kept on asking God for a
retentive memory.
I finally got to the interview hall and this fear came upon me but i summoned courage and
kept praying while still trying to remember all i crammed. I was eventually called upon by
the v.o himself who had just handed a lady the blue paper and i was like "how can this guy
approve me" but i kept hopes alive.

This was my third time and third denial. All in just 1year. But i still give thanks to God. For
only Him knows the reason for this. His will has just prevailed. I believe He has a better plan.
I'm not planning to apply again for now.(reason best known for me) I only posted this
because i'd make up my mind that i'm going to post my transcript here(whether successful or
unsuccessful) so that others can either tap from it(if succeful) or learn from the mistakes(not
successful) when corrected. Now the floor is open for the transcript to be corrected. But

Visa approved yesterday. I'm a silent follower and this is my first post on nairaland. Thank
you all for your various posts and comment on this thread. I'm so grateful to God.
I have had series of interviews with @samuels3, @texrem and my girlfriend. @femi321 also
sent some materials to me.
Interview was for 7am and I got there @ about 6:45am. Did the normal routine checks and
all, wen I was in the pavilion beside the lagoon, I saw all the VOs coming out of the boat that
brought them.

Now am in the embassy and I was asked to do one documentation like that. The woman
requested for my passport, I20 and SEVIS fee receipt and so I tot she was a vo and ended up
realizing it was just documentation.

Now to the VO @ window 2, she rejected two pple consecutively including the lady before
me and the VO wasn't smiling @ all.

Me: Good morning with a happy and smiling face

ME: Gave them to her with smile again. She looked @ it and typed for a while.

ME: Told her a BSC in geology at xxxx university

Me: I've been working with Bleep Nigeria Limited. We are into geology operations (she cuts
me short)
VO: I see u av funding:
Me: my brilliance academic performance and professional experience earned me this (she
cuts me short)
VO: what does ur father do
ME: he is a quantity surveyor and prepares bill of quantities, tenders and quotations for civil
engineers, builders and architects
VO: What does ur mum do
Me: She is a business woman. A cement distributor in south west. She supplies dangote
cement is Lagos, Ogun, OSUN and she cuts me short again
VO: Pick ur passport in 2-3 days time and gave me a white paper.

We were both smiling to ourselves through out the interview.

Thank you all on this platform. No question was new to me. I've seen all d question here and
I've practiced them consistently.
No document was asked, she didn't ask wot will d degree do for me, why did you choose
USA, why did you choose dis course, tell me ur study plan etc.

Omo, I didn't know when I started crying. God favoured me. He gave me joy after being
denied by Canada this year. All to God. Trust on him and. Him alone.

sorry for your denial but nursing always a red flag. then no exams also red flag ..... we have
said here in NL that doing test adds to credibility . ...also if u dont mind how old are you ? ...
blc is this another bsc or first bsc

but most importantly in the response of your work which is KEY .... u are in a private school
which has absolutely nothing to do with healthcare . so really u didn't sell yourself to relate
anything to nursing ... usually interview can last less than 2 mins so u need to be quick about
making your passion for your course known

Sorry about your denial. From your transcript, I could see that you gave out information in
which you weren't to give and sounded a little bit desperate and so you got denied.

You lost it in the first and second question. Why are going to the United States. The response
should be; I am going to the US for a bachelor's degree in Nursing (if it's a bachelor) and you
close your mouth unless the VO asked for your study plan, then you can explain all these.

The second question is; Have you travelled out of this country. And finally, are you currently
working? Yes, in a high school and it's close to where I live. This is not a good response. Did
he or she asked where you currently work. Even if it's very close to where you live, you
shouldn't say it. Your job is to say the name of the school or organization and again keep
your mouth closed.

I am a silent observer here.... See how it went... 9th of December 2016. I had my interview. It

was a 8:30AM appointment. My first time ever to appear at any embassy. It was really an

experience… especially.. with the American Embassy... compared to other embassies that are

almost without patrons around there.. I got there early and shortly a lady came to call up

7:00, 7:15,7:30, 8:00,8:15 AND 8:30 Appontments… I joined… but I carried a bag… during

the checkup… they found hair and shoe brushes in my bag.. they said I should go back and

dispose them… I went to look for how to keep it… (but I had to part with N500 to a lady

who initially wanted #1000.. just to watch over my bag for less than 2hrs… pls better don’t

go with any bag or gadgets.. their don’ts are too much.. u may not notice one in ur bag… )…

while preparing for this interview i Prayed and fasted.. even went to prayer mountains few

times to redeem this day… one or two pastors also gave their prayers and decree.. for my

After the initial checkup and protocols.. and the Finger print capture… I joined the queue

where I have noticed a white lady VO at window 3 who was just releasing blue paper form

reject to people as if it was a yuletide gift. Others where even smiling and giving some

people white paper admit after few interrogation but she wasn’t.

Then I was asked by the CGI young man directing people to go to window 3. Then I went

and waited while pleading the blood of Jesus and Cabaashing… I saw a blue reject issued

again to the person am to replace immediately she finished with him… then She said Next…
I went and the conversation goes thus.

Me: Good morning…. I maintained eye contact and spoke with boldness… (just as I have

learnt from NL)

VO: Good Morning (she was not even smiling)

Then I passed my documents(Passport, I-20 and Sevis FEE receipt.)

VO: She collected them and released a smile as she saw F1(Student Visa);

Me: I plan to do my PHD Degree in Computer Science at the University of Alabama in

Huntsville, starting from January 2017-December 2021(I had always memorized it as it is

stated in my i20 before)… I would firstly do my preliminary exams, then I do my course

works… having finished I will do my qualifying exams.. then I would start my dissertation

research….(as I have read it in my schools website before…).. Immediately the VO heard

dissertation she said ok.. ok..

VO: Started typing… then said do you have a Master’s Degree?

Me: Yes

VO: OK… why do you need a phd Degree?

Me: I want to become an academic and a credible researcher and for that to happen I would

need a phd degree.

VO: where did you do your Master’s degree..

Me: The University of Ibadan..

VO: what have you been doing since you graduated?

Me: I just finished this year…

VO: OK….(then she started typing).. What’s your major in your master’s degree?

Me: computer science

VO: Who is your sponsor

Me: My uncle.. Professor *****

VO: What is it like to do a phd degree…

Me:… I briefly lost my balance by the question… then I said what… then She repeated..

Me:…( I just improvised few words together)… you have to do the course work and do your

dissertation documentation which you have to defend…

Me: No, Not yet…….. But my research areas are Bioinformatics, machine Learning and

Artificial Intelligence…. And I have been communicating with one of my professors in my

school

pushed it to me along with my I-20…. (She also add one invitation slip by one

educationUSA for students orientation program).…. you will need this i20 at the point of

entry… come next week to collect your passport and visa at DHL Victoria Island… she said.

was done with my passport while she type.

I applied for Associate Degree in a Community College. Some people would say it is a RED
FLAG well I advice you follow your guts, say some prayers for favor and let God decide for
you.

Once again, many were denied. But God ultimately decided for me even though comments
here about AA discouraged me.

In a situation where applicants want to switch or update their old ds160 confirmation code to
new ds160 confirmation code after booking visa interview appointment, then the best is to
fill a new ds160 form online if you have submitted it and then copy the new ds160
confirmation and go back to the appointment website and click on profile update and insert
the new ds160 confirmation and click save, If it's successful you are good to go if not the
applicant must contact the embassy by clicking the provide feedback which is at the right
corner of their appointment website after login to the site

After doing that reprint your appointment confirmation page and and check the two bar codes
if the ds160 own corresponding with the one on ds160 confirmation.

sorry this is coming late. Interview was 6:30am and I slept at ikeja night before my interview
because my brother promised me that his driver will drop me at the embassy very early in the
morning.
We left Ikeja very early in the morning full of hope and trusting on God, trust Naija police

Visa approved this morning for 6.30am appointment at the Lagos consulate. Got to the
embassy with my younger brother around 5.30am, met those touts as usual but ignored them
all.Did the normal screening and by quatre pass 7 we were in the Hall...Got interviewed at
window 7 by a white lady probably in her late 40s... The following ensued between me and

My brothers and sisters it can only be GOD, the interview wasn't up to 3 minutes at all...I
prayed to God to go there before me and he did just that..I told GOD to give me a perfect
christmas gift by approving my visa and he did it for me...To my fellow Nairalanders who
are about going for their interviews please pray and hold on to GOD as he is the one who can
do all things...I started fasting and praying right after i payed for my visa fee asking him to
grant me favour and mercy using Psalm 51, 34, 21, 20, 72 and isaiah 60 and he truly
favoured me in my interview today...Wish those looking forward to their interview days

was asked and I'm going to Saint Joseph's University for Masters in Health

My F1 interview was scheduled for last Tuesday (December 13) alongside my wife and son.
Unfortunately, the CGI list was not updated to have the confirmation numbers for my family
and they were turned back. I went ahead for the interview.

Arrived the Consulate at about 6 30am. Did the usual checking (about 40 of us for the
7.30am batch) and
we got into the final hall. Did our bio metrics and thereafter sat patiently for the VOs arrival.
immediately I saw the vos entering their butt..i was pressed (then I was still on queue doing

It got to my turn at about 8:00am and I was called to window 7 by a fat woman who look
Chinese’s in nature presumably in his early 40s. The following conversation which spanned
for like 5 minutes ensued between us.

Me: I passed them.
VO: When did you finish high school?
Me: I finished high school in 2010
VO: What have you been doing?
Me: after high school in 2010 I did a 2 year course in desktop publishing and computer
operation after which I got my diploma in civil engineering in 2015 and did a 1 year
industrial training where I worked as assistant Concrete lab technician. I was meant to go to
the field pick soil sample, aggregates asphalts and check the bearing capacity and also check
if its suitable for construction.(she asked again when did u get your diploma …. I said 2015)
VO: why did you choose east Tennessee state university?
Me: the school curriculum is practically oriented, structured in such a way that it fits in my
intended course of study also every student regardless of your major belongs to one social
community group that promotes success and undergraduate student are being given

work well on your responses.

about the curriculum mentioning the courses you would be taking and practical oriented
mentioning researches that would be carried out by professors and how it's well aligned with

have no fake documents, he asked me where my father works (I was scared of telling them ,
them fit be fake police and fit go kidnap me). I sha looked at their uniforms well and told
him. Then they gave me back my documents .

account statement. The guy asked me who owned the statement , I told him my dad , he
asked me where is my dad , I asked him which kind of question is that. They all looked at me
with surprise , then I cleared them on the spot and told them I have read about what they do
on the internet , that I just got my visa and my statement is legit they should not disturb me I
have no fake documents, he asked me where my father works (I was scared of telling them ,
them fit be fake police and fit go kidnap me). I sha looked at their uniforms well and told
him. Then they gave me back my documents .

Mehn that embassy environment is quite tight , all this while I pass Walter carington bustop
on a daily basis , I never knew inside that road was that beautiful , I mean that water view
and the serene environment just make sense die.
Anyways I Started all the normal procedures and got to the counter ** those security checks
were just too much I had to pull my belt and wristwatch .
My confidence level was at 90 percent the remaining -10 % was because of fear of the
unknown , anything can happen. But I kept looking around and shining my teeth acting like I
was a boss.
