Chiropractic patients had significantly higher immune competence than non-chiropractic patients and cancer patients. Two studies found that chiropractic adjustments increased white blood cell counts and slowed the progression of HIV by reducing nervous system interference and subluxations. Subluxations may lower the immune system by generally irritating the entire nervous system, not just pressing on individual nerves.

competence than people who had not received Chiropractic care, and 400% greater immune competence than the subjects with cancer. “Chiropractic may optimize whatever genetic abilities you have…” Dr. Ronald Pero, Ph.D. Chief of Cancer Prevention Research at New York Preventative Medicine Institute
Two other studies may indicate that not only is immune
function greater without subluxation, but that subluxation may be responsible for a lowered immune system response. In 1992 researchers performed a study on “healthy” patients to see what effect a thoracic adjustment would have on the immune system. They found that 15 minutes after being adjusted, there was a significant in- crease in the number of neutrophils, a type of white blood cell that fights invading bacteria (as compared to 15 min- utes before the adjustment). In 1994 a small controlled study was done on HIV patients looking at the effects of removing nervous system interference on the immune system. Half of the patients were adjusted and half were not. After 6 months, the non- adjusted group (who doctors pretended to adjust) had a reduction in the CD4 count by 8% compared to the adjusted group whose count decreased 48%! (The CD4 count indicates the progression of the HIV infection. A higher count indicates further progression of viral invasion).
Some effects of subluxation cannot be explained by pressure on a single nerve,
but are the result of general irritation of the entire nervous system.
