envelope)

WHITNEY SAKASAKA: Welcome home honey

(Enters Laso Sakasaka with files from the office)

LASO SAKASAKA: Thank you sweetheart. How was your day?

WHITNEY SAKASAKA: (Passes a chair to the husband). It was okay. Been busy though with

Mellissa’s preparations

LASO SAKASAKA: True. I understand plus I’m proud of our daughter. She’ll graduate with

A degree in economics.

WHITNEY SAKASAKA: So wonderful. Did you get her what I told you?

LASO SAKASAKA: What did you tell me?

WHITNEY SAKASAKA: That you should get her a laptop for her academics
LASO SAKASAKA: OH! Is that even necessary?

WHITNEY SAKASAKA: (Nodes head with disapproval) Yes it is. You always do this. This is

Our daughter’s future we are talking about here, I wish you were more

Serious.

LASO SAKASAKA: (Gets up from the chair). Why are you talking to me to this? It is not like

I don’t think about her but then we are not doing financially overall. She

Will go to school which is the most important thing right. By the way,
where

Is she?

WHITNEY SAKASAKA: She should be in her room, most probably on her phone or Doris’s

Place so we can also discuss her departure.

LASO SAKASAKA: Alright. You do also

(Whitney Sakasaka goes out and quickly comes back in)

WHITNEY SAKASAKA: She is not there. Most probably out at Doris’s place I will go to call
her

(Whitney Sakasaka walks out)

SCENE 2: DORIS’S PLACE

(Two chairs outside the house and Mellisa walks in)

DORIS: Mellissa! I have been looking for you

(Doris goes to hug Mellissa)

MELLISSA: It’s been a long day sister. But we are finally going to school

(They hug again)

DORIS: I’m really excited about this. Have you got everything you need?
MELLISSA: Yes but I still do have a few things to add on to the list. But I am just looking
forward

To the parties and also the college romance

DORIS: oh sister, I do want that too. I hear the Chancellor College social weekends are usually

Are more fun than poly. So you can just imagine how much we are up for. It’s really
going

To be a wonderful experience.

MELLISSA: Exactly. Have your parents talked to you about the school yet?

DORIS: Talk to them in what way?

MELLISSA: About school

DORIS: Yes. What about it

MELLISSA: About how you ought to behave when you get there at school

DORIS: No. You know how my parents are. They will not talk much about it. Because they
know

I will do the right thing.

MELLISSA: I am sure they do. So not even my parents have come up to you about to me?

DORIS: What are you talking about Mellissa?

MELLISA: I mean my mum and dad coming to you about how you will have to watch over me

When we are there at school

DORIS: No Mellissa. You know that would not happen. I promise you that.

MELLISSA: Great then. Since we have that established, I wanted to tell you that I have been
told

About some party the weekend we are opening school at some lecturer’s place.
There
Free alcohol and a lot of guys.

DORIS: You know it is not a good idea right? Also considering the fact that it is the first
weekend

We are going to be in school. I don’t think it is going to be a good idea, at least if we

Would do that when we get used to the college life like maybe after a month or two

MELLISSA: I knew you would say this but anyway we will talk about everything we get there at

School. I will see you later then I have to heading back home, my father might be

Waiting for me.

DORIS: Alright. Looking forward to seeing you

(Mellissa exits angrily)

MELLISSA: Yes father. I am ready for it. Was wondering when will I be going to school and

About the laptop

LASO SAKASAKA: Do not worry about that we will have it covered but the most important
thing

Right is we have to tell you about university life

WHITNEY SAKASAKA: You see my daughter, at the university you will meet people from

Walks life

LASO SAKASAKA: Do not get caught up with the life styles of the other students that is other

Students party life, dressing, drugs and drinking

WHITNEY SAKASAKA: You need to concentrate on your studies my daughter. The university

Is not a place for you to look for marriages as it is popularly known. It’s

A place where you will have to make sure you get your degree and shape

Your future. Do you understand?

MELLISSA: Yes I do Mother.

LASO SAKASAKA: Good. One thing you have to remember is you have understand is you
always

Have to pray. You will need God when you go there, always trust in him.

WHITNEY SAKASAKA: it is important that you stick to your Doris because she is a nice
person

MELLISSA: Yes I understand. But Doris cannot be trusted somehow because we are not going

To be in the same class and she can be full of lies sometimes which is not nice

LASO SAKASAKA: Yes but that’s unacceptable. We would like it if you continued hanging out

With her. You are starting off tomorrow, so be ready and we also hope you

Will keep whatever we have told you. We are your parents and we wish the

Best for you so I hope you keep up to that too.

MELLISSA: okay. I understand.

WHITNEY SAKASAKA: Great! So what are the things you need for you school before we
leave?

Besides the tuition

LASO SAKASAKA: Darling, you should go and collect her tuition fees

(Whitney goes out and quickly comes back in with money)

WHITNEY SAKASAKA: well here is everything you need, I hope you will stay focused.
LASO SAKASAKA: and God fearing

MELLISSSA: Yes I will. Thank you.

DORIS: alright no problem. But I met someone Mellissa. He told me his name is Dr Dzalamoyo

MELLISSA: Is he a lecturer?

(Doris stops walking)

DORIS: That is what I thought too. But to the contrary he is a student, should be post graduate
but

I do not know much about him. However he was really nice and invited us to a party at

His place tonight. Should we go?

(Mellissa stops walking too)

MELLISSA: You know I will obviously say yes as much we do not know this man. But are you

Not the one who said we have to wait for a month or two before we start going to

RICHARD: What time are you going to pick them so we can clean this place up (looks around
