What is Design Thinking?

Design Thinking is a process to understand users and their requirements, challenge
assumptions, analyze, examine and redefine problems and creating innovative
solutionswhich are sustainable. Feasible solutions can be prototyped and tested. The
primary goal is to identify alternative solutions that may not be instantly applicable to
the initial level of understanding.

Creativity, Invention, and Innovation

• Creativity

It is the act of directing imagination, ideas, and thoughts into something

practical. It is the very first stage of design, where ideas start to take form and
a plan can be developed.

Example: You can pair a Bluetooth mouse with your laptop, pair a Bluetooth
headset with your phone, or pair your smartphone with your laptop. Transfer
Files Wirelessly Between Mobile Devices and Computers.

Computer Engineering P a g e 5 | 18
TYCOC189 DIV : C

• Invention
Invention is the process of actual practical implementation or creation of a
new idea or concept. It is simply, the creation of an idea without verifying its
workingand value. Invention can only happen with creativity, but creativity
alone cannotdevelop an idea.

Example: Device for radio frequency skin treatment

• Innovation
Innovation is about successfully exploiting new ideas. It is the stage in which
boldideas, once well-developed, are presented to the public. The aim is to
make an invention a commercial success and to encourage its widespread use.
Innovationconnects the dots of business.
.

Example: A professor of electrical engineering and computer science at MIT, she

and her team have developed a device that uses radio waves to track how well
people are or aren’t sleeping. Specifically, it can measure when and for how long
a person is spending in different stages of sleep, such as light, deep and REM.

Explain in brief about the Product which you have considered in the Design Thinking Process.

Product Will mainly focus on single connector or receiver. Which connects keyboard,
mouse and speakers, smart watch by single connection using radio frequency and there will be
receiver which has USB 3.0 connection. Additionally, we can convert this USB 3.0 connection to
USB Type-C connection, which we can connect to desktop, laptop (nowadays all new devices
have Type-C port), tablet and even to our very own mobile phones.

Wireless keyboards feature a 10-foot range, allowing you to type from anywhere in the room!
Wireless keyboards are less obtrusive in the workstation because they do not have wires.

When purchasing a wireless mouse or keyboard, you have the option of using Bluetooth or
wireless peripherals that communicate via a USB dongle over Radio Frequencies (RF.) USB-RF
provides lower latency, although Bluetooth has advantages.

Wireless receivers have a unique item with a brand name that serves as a wireless keyboard.
They can only be linked to devices with the same brand name. This means that only gadgets
manufactured by the same company will be allowed to pair with the device. This restricts your
options and limits the number of devices you can use wireless device technology. Multi-device
connectivity is not possible as it requires the USB Nano receiver to be plugged in to establish
the connection. 2.4 GHz wireless keyboard’s power consumption is relatively low. Both sides of
the Bluetooth keyboard are connected; as a result, it requires significantly more power to
operate.

Connectivity – 2.4 GHz Radio Frequency

Compatibility - Devices with USB ports like Laptops, Desktops, Tablets, etc.

Additional Hardware required - USB Nano Receiver is required

Working :
Most wireless device use radio frequency (RF) technology to communicate information to your
computer. Being radio-based, RF devices require two main components:

A transmitter and a receiver.

Here's how it works:

• The transmitter is housed in the device. It sends an electromagnetic (radio) signal that
encodes the information about the device's actions that you perform.

• The receiver, which is connected to your computer, accepts the signal, decodes it and
passes it on to the device’s driver software and operating system.

• The receiver can be a separate device that plugs into your computer, a special card that

Computer Engineering P a g e 8 | 18
TYCOC189 DIV : C

you place in an expansion slot, or a built-in component.

Many electronic devices use radio frequencies to communicate. Examples include cellular
phones, wireless networks, and garage door openers. To communicate without conflicts,
different types of devices have been assigned different frequencies. Newer cell phones use a
frequency of 900-megahertz, garage door openers operate at a frequency of 40 megahertz, and
802.11b/g wireless networks operate at 2.4 gigahertz. Megahertz (MHz) means "one million
cycles per second," so "900 megahertz" means that there are 900 million electromagnetic
waves per second. Gigahertz (GHz) means "one billion cycles per second." To learn more about
RF and frequencies, see How the Radio Spectrum Works.

Unlike infrared technology, which is commonly used for short-range wireless communications
such as television remote controls, RF devices do not need a clear line of sight between the
transmitter (mouse) and receiver. Just like other types of devices that use radio waves to
communicate, a wireless mouse signal can pass through barriers such as a desk or your
monitor.

RF technology provides a number of additional benefits for wireless mice. These include:

• RF transmitters require low power and can run on batteries

• RF components are inexpensive

• RF components are light weight

Pairing and Security

In order for the transmitter in the device to communicate with its receiver, they must be
paired. This means that both devices are operating at the same frequency on the same channel
using a common identification code. A channel is simply a specific frequency and code. The
purpose of pairing is to filter out interference from other sources and RF devices.

Pairing methods vary, depending on the device manufacturer. Some devices come pre-paired.
Others use methods such as a pairing sequence that occurs automatically, when you push
specific buttons, or when you turn a dial on the receiver and/or device.

To protect the information your device transmits to the receiver, most wireless device include
an encryption scheme to encode data into an unreadable format. Some devices also use a
frequency hopping method, which causes the mouse and receiver to automatically change
frequencies using a predetermined pattern. This provides additional protection from
interference and eavesdropping.

Point Wise Description :

Understanding based on previous data:

1. Emphathise Phase :-
Product Will mainly focus on single connector or receiver. Which connects keyboard, mouse
and speakers, smart watch by single connection using radio frequency and there will be receiver
which has USB 3.0 connection. Additionally, we can convert this USB 3.0 connection to USB Type-C
connection, which we can connect to desktop, laptop (nowadays all new devices have Type-C port),
tablet and even to our very own mobile phones.

• Expectations-
• Customers will love this product due to very less complexity for connection setup. All you
need to insert that nano frequency receiver into respective port.
• Surely there is no Bluetooth connection so power consumption is less in our proposed
product.

2. Define Phase:-

• Planning of product:
• Product will have a one small nano radio frequency receiver.
Radio frequency connection setup in all these devices.
• And also there should be Bluetooth connection also in speakers.

• Resources:
• Desktop/tablet/laptop, radio connection setup with nano receiver, otg connector (if
required)

• Assumption:
• Battery backup should be enough.
• Connection with any trusted branded company for production of product.
• Platform to deploy product.
• Customer should trust radio frequency connection easily.
• Compatibility over android easily.

• Wicked Problem Associated with the New Product Design:

• As it is invention but we can say this is combination of various available products so there
will not much problems to design product.
• This is yet to available for user as we can say this is proposed idea at this stage

TYCOC189 DIV : C

• Feasibility Checks for the Product :

➢ Mechanical Feasibility :
As all basic required components are available in market and about technical, it
doesn’t require any rocket science all we need is radio frequency connection setup.

➢ Economical Feasibility :
As it is wireless connection surely it will cost more than wired mouse and
keyboard. As our system also have Bluetooth speaker so cost may increase but as it is
combine system so overall cost will get reduce surely.
As it is universal connector so even if we connect smartwatch to our system
whole cost will reduce.

➢ Functionality Feasibility :
1)Wireless mouse/keyboard tends to have a longer lifespan compared to other
types. Thus, it doesn’t present issues notable with creased and damaged cables.
2)It can use in day today life. It is good choice if user is going to setup new PC or
desktop. As we are providing Mouse, Keyboard and speakers.
3) we will provide customized or will give lot of options for smartwatch and its
variants.

➢ Sustainability Feasibility :

Average life span of RF system setup is 5-6 years. As it does not contain any
wires so probability of cutting, thrashing, damaging wires get vanished.

5. Testing:-

❖ Monitoring and controlling of the product :

It is next phase of our product that is having reliable software application which can
control all these devices or system. Ex- Battery remaining in particular devices can be monitor
through software application.

❖ Identify and correct all problems encountered :

➢ Price efficiency
➢ Variants selection
➢ Life span (still greater than wired devices)
➢ Compatibility with various devices and operating systems.

❖ This stage involves Feedback for the Product :

➢ Feedback after purchasing a product
➢ And after development of software android/web application feedback section will
present in that.

Chapter 4 : Conclusion

❖ Conclusion and future scope

My investigation of the Radio frequency technology was based on the classical triangular
approach:

Based on my findings and analysis throughout this thesis, I draw the following
conclusions.

• Radio Frequency is a wireless technology which can do much more than just replace data
cables between devices.

• The world of connecting devices has seen an unprecedented growth in recent years,
broadening its horizon from its beginning as just a subset of the smart device market to today
ruling a wide array of unique markets included but not limited to Health, Entertainment,
information integration image processing and many more.

• In order to further increase market penetration, Radio Frequency should quickly address some
security.

• The device vendors must strictly adhere specification and address interoperability issues on
their own initiate as well. This will further increase users trust in this technology and also
create a healthier market place. There should be more initiatives like that to increase the
marketability of this technology and also to better serve the end users.

• There are many excellent opportunities for future work, including issues such as the complex
interaction, the impact of fatigue on the use of devices, collaborative versus individual use of
devices, the use of ensembles of devices with different form factors (e.g., Keyboard, Mouse,
Speaker, Smartwatch) extending the relevance of these findings to new technologies and form
factors.

• It’s no wonder that, the app development process is exhausting, and overwhelming also. There
have been lots of steps and processes to follow, and many decision making mechanism are
involved as well. But, In Future we are trying to built an app you might encounter for
connecting and accessing these devices.
