Dumenu Derrick 216CS01003715 Study Skills

Post Event Summary Report

On 26th October the IDF sponsored a forum on physical appearance expected as a corporate
dress code. The forum was open to all students, especially students taking the courses' study
skills, job search strategies and techniques students.

Mr Michael Borteye Okoe Jnr Head of Marketing Grace Farms, Coach, Business and
Personal Development was the facilitator of the event. At the start of the event, he asked the
attendees the difference between wrong and inappropriate. He went ahead to state the
difference after he took a few answers that, inappropriate means not suitable for a situation,
time or place. While wrong is simply incorrect or untrue.

During the forum, he made a typical example by changing the attire he initially came in with.
Dressed in a casual outfit and changing into an official outfit with a flying tie. This is to make
and point and make us understand that one is addressed the way he or she is dressed. He also
said one can dress inappropriately yet speak well but this is not to say one shouldn’t dress
appropriately. In conclusion, one should learn to speak well as he or she learns to dress well.

After the meeting, he spoke shortly about the importance of preparations. He uses a scenario
of his friend who was interviewed informally and had he not been prepared wouldn’t have
landed himself a job.

The lesson I took from the forum is to dress to fit the occasion and always be prepared.
