A. Introduction
Daniel 3:16-18
Religious people are expected to have a firm faith in order to be able to manifest their
faith in their daily life. But in life sometimes you see people who show the opposite
attitude to life with the teachings of his religion. In James 2:14-17 it is written that faith
without works is dead. Faith must be manifested in the attitude of daily life. Religious
people are not necessarily believers, a person can embrace a certain religion and his
religious identity is written on his ID card or other documents but his life is not in
accordance with the teachings of his faith. This shows that religion is not always in line
with faith. Ideally, religious people must have faith.
B. Understanding the meaning of Faith and hope

The word "faith" in the Old Testament means "to hold fast." Faith means holding fast to
the belief you have about something because it can be trusted and relied on. Thus faith
is always related to "believe." Faith means we “believe” in the God who has revealed
himself in Jesus Christ. According to Niftrik and Boland, religion means "knowing" and
"know" about God who has set (liberated) man through Jesus Christ. Faith means
"acknowledging" the power of God and His word in life and therefore you are called to
testify about God's word through thought, word, and deed. As for the word "hope" also
inseparable from faith in God. Faith generates hope and at the same time encourages
a person to manifest that hope in thought, word, and deed.
c. People who have faith and hope
1. Doctor Moore and the Blind Boy
Moore was a well-known and respected doctor. Through his hands, countless lives have
been saved. He lives in an old town in France, twenty years ago he was a convict. His
lover betrayed him and ran to hug another man because his emotions hurt the man,
then his status as a student at a famous university changed to a prisoner, and he was
imprisoned for 3 years. After getting out of prison, his lover married someone else. His
status as an ex-convict made it difficult for him to get a job. When he applied for a job
he became the subject of ridicule and ridicule.
Heartbroken, Moore decides to become a robber. He had been eyeing in the southern
part of the city there was a house that would be his target. The adults in the house all
left work until late at night before returning home. In the house there is only a blind little
boy who lives alone. He went into the house prying open the main door while carrying a
dagger, into the house. A soft voice asked, "Who is that?" Moore carelessly replied, "I am
a friend of your papa, he gave me the keys to the house.” This little boy was overjoyed,
unsuspectingly said, “Welcome, my name is Kay, but my papa just got home tonight,
uncle what do you want to play with me for a while?” He looks with eyes big and bright
but see nothing, with full face hope, under his sincere pleading gaze, Moore forgot about
goal, immediately agreed. What really surprised him was the age of the child This 8-
year-old and blind can play the piano fluently. The songs that played very beautifully
and happily, even for a child normal have to put great effort into the level of being like a
blind child this.
After finishing playing the piano, this child painted a painting that can be felt in this blind
child's world, like painting the sun, flowers, parents, and friends. The world of this blind
child is not empty. Even though the painting looks very awkward, round shapes
and squares are indistinguishable but he paints very serious and sincerely. "Uncle, is the
sun like this?" Moore suddenly felt very touched, then he painted on the palm of the child's
hand several circles, "The sun is round and bright, golden in color." “Uncle, what color is
that golden?” He lifted his face which was As she asked, Moore, was silent for a moment,
then led her to the hot sun, “Gold is a very vital color, can make people feel warm, just like
we eat bread that can give us strength." This blind child happily uses his hands to touch the
four corners and said, "Uncle, I have felt, very much" warm, she will be the same color as
my uncle's smile." Moore patiently explained to him the various colors and shapes of items.
He deliberately depicts life so that the child is fully imaginative is easy to understand.
This blind child heard the story very seriously, even though he is blind but the child's
sense of touch and hearing It's sharper and stronger than a normal child's Without
feeling the time pass quickly. Finally, Moore remembered the purpose of his arrival, but
Moore did not maybe rob again. Just because of criticism and ridicule from the society
he will commit another crime. Standing in front of Kay he felt very embarrassed, so he
wrote a note to Kay's parents. “Dear ladies and gentlemen, pardon me for prying open
the door of your house. You are a great parent, who can educate children who are so
kind, even though his eyes are blind but his heart is very bright. He taught me many
things and opened the doors of my heart.” Three years later, Moore completed his
studies at the Faculty of medicine and started his career as a doctor. Six years later, he
and his colleagues operated on Kay .'s eyes so that Kay could see the beauty of this
world. Then Kay became a famous pianist who holds concerts all over the world. Every
have a concert, Moore will try to attend, sit in the corner inconspicuously, listening to
