As someone who believes in being as transparent as possible, I will admit that

lately, I’ve been struggling with my relationship with Jesus. I would even go as
far to say that I’ve been viewing myself as more spiritual than religious. Having
said this, through reading this book, I have come to realize that having and
maintaining a relationship with Jesus is a relationship that has to be worked on
daily.

This book has been a godsend and I like that the book is written in a way that it
can be read in one setting or over a forty day period. The author does a great job
of presenting information in an easy to understand way. In addition, I like that
each chapter ends with a point to ponder, a verse to live by, a question to
consider and a short-prayer.

I view this book as a valuable tool to help me to live more like Jesus and show
his love through my daily life. Having read this book has helped me with the
rebuilding a foundation for a stronger relationship with Jesus is something that
is doable and it requires a desire and excitement to get to know him on an
intimate basis.

He didn't use flowery language or overly complicated language. He just laid it

out for you plain and simple. I have a habit of saying that some books are a
challenging read, but this book was instead a read that challenged you.
The preciseness of language used throughout the book makes it easy for the
reader to comprehend the message he is trying to share. Kelly not only explains
his views, but he also includes real stories of when Jesus has positively
encountered in someone’s life.
Kelly's beautiful words about practical holiness and simple faith really hit a spot
with me.

It is divided into forty short chapters containing reflections on a number of

different themes, and concluding with a point to ponder, a verse from the Bible,
a question to consider, and a prayer. The book is written in Kelly's usual
enthusiastic and uplifting style.
Living as Jesus calls us to means living a radical generosity, practicing
forgiveness, and loving others with an agape love. We also need to pray in order
to have a meaningful relationship with God. Kelly explores all of these aspects
of Christian life, as well as the importance of self-denial, an idea that is not
popular in the world today. “Each time you deny yourself is a spiritual exercise,
a spiritual push-up that strengthens the soul. This allows the soul to increasingly
respond to grace and choose what is good, true, noble, and just in every
situation.” Kelly encourages us to work to close the gap between “the person we
are and the person he created us to be.”

Review of Rediscover Jesus By Matthew Kelly

It's Lent again already? Doesn't it seem to sneak up on us every year? Then it slips by,
without a second thought. This year can be different. This year can change your faith journey.
You can Rediscover Jesus. Well-known Catholic author Matthew Kelly leads you on a
journey through the radical love and even more radical teachings of Jesus in the Bible with
his book “Rediscover Jesus”.

The gospels help us understand the mind of God, what He cares about and what He doesn't,
and what His priorities are. Jesus's teachings are focused on conversion of heart, not just a
change of behavior. Kelly touches on many things that effect our daily lives, showing
different ways to grow closer to Christ and His Church. Since lent is a time of transformation
and repentance, this book fits perfectly into this time of the liturgical year. The culmination
of Lent, Easter Sunday, is impossible to ignore. Jesus rises from the dead! Kelly says it's the
most radical moment in history. Jesus proves he is God. Will we open up to allow Him to
radically transform us? He waits for us to ask Him to transform us, our lives, our love. Kelly
shows us ways to do just that. However, often our fear holds us back. Transformation will be
hard. We won't be comfortable. Where do you put your priorities? On things, money, or
fame? Or, do we prioritize people first as Jesus did? Think about living with no home, no
possessions, not knowing where your next meal would come from, just as Jesus did. Can we
do without some of the things we think we need? Can we be radical enough to put people
first? Jesus came to teach us how to love unconditionally. The ultimate expression of that
love is His cross. He invites us to love that way, to pour ourselves out for others. The Gospels
show us how to do that. They give us the road map. The chapter on delving into the gospels
was a revelation for me. Kelly suggests placing yourself into the story as a different character
each time you read it, offering us a way to bring the Gospels to life and feel them, not just
read them as history. Kelly's book shows us many ways to take steps to get closer to the
person God created us to be. By rediscovering Jesus, we discover our own value. For me, the
book offered hope that I could become more holy, as God wants. Kelly's suggestions at the
end of each chapter set up a blueprint for how to get there. I think that's what we want, isn't
it? This book can help us all get a little, or perhaps a lot, closer to the goal of holiness. Take
the challenge and rediscover Jesus.
