EXAMPLE ESSAY ADVANCED COMPLETE UNIT 3

It is well documented that students are prone to anxiety and feel under overwhelming
pressure in the run up to and while taking exams. In this essay I will outline two possible
approaches which could be adopted by learning institutions in order to diminish that stress,
and consequently assist students in coping during those challenging times.

The first method is to seek guidance from their teachers, who are specialists in the field of
education. Although the exam experience is new to students, teachers encounter the same
issues every year. Therefore, they can help not only by clarifying doubts related to topics which
have been taught in class but can also recommend strategies in order for students to be
capable of doing well.

An alternative and more importantly, is to put the situation into perspective. There is no doubt
that academic achievements are held in high regard, however, it is impossible to perform well
if stressed. Our brains need to disconnect occasionally so as to function well. That does not
necessarily imply sleeping; it can take the form of exercising or socialising with friends, which
equally shift the brain’s focus from work. After even a short break, our minds are ready to
resume the task of learning. Moreover, it will do it much more efficiently.

Both the aforementioned methods would undoubtedly have a positive impact on stress levels.
However, I believe that having sufficient time to participate in activities other than studying
would have the greatest bearing on students’ ability to perform to their full capability, and
therefore, fulfil their potential.
