1. What is APA Format?

The "APA Format" are a set of rules for use in the writing, presentation and publication of
written works, using "Citations and References" to improve the arguments and reliability of
research whatever the degree, doctorate or even school presentations , business and
commercial.

2. APA format

❑ APA formats for the presentation of written works

❑ The APA format is a standard model that presents a set of rules for citing sources, bibliographical references,
scientific, academic and research documents, literary citations, news articles, laws, theses, among many other utilities
that an APA format gives us.

❑ The American Psychological Association created the APA format.

❑ The APA format was well adopted by magazines, newspapers, and other academic branches, and the APA citation
greatly increased its usefulness in almost any sector where written works are written.

3. APA updated and style
citations

APA standards updated from the 7th. Version 2022, was updated with the following characteristics:

The number of allowed authors was increased to 20, 5 levels allowed in the titles, we can write with 4 more
fonts apart from Times New Roman, in addition to simplifications with abbreviations and Internet addresses.

Make citations within the text of a work to complement, reinforce and build trust with readers.

Short Quote – Exact Transcript


Long Quote – In Paragraph Block
Indirect quote or paraphrase – It is not exact but the meaning is.
Second-hand citation – An author is mentioned who in turn obtained the information from a third author

4. How to structure the text
of an APA format

❑ The written work of an APA format must be ordered or divided into 11 sections to organize
the information:

❑ COVER: On the cover we write the name of the article, the year it was written and the
author's details.
❑ SUMMARY / ABSTRACT: Present the objectives, ideas, methods and conclusions reached by
the investigation.
❑ INTRODUCTION: A chronological introduction of the necessary events and concepts is made.
❑ METHOD: Describes the steps, work tools, the process of writing the information and its
organization, details of the method and techniques used.
❑ RESULT: Presents the achievements, positive and negative conclusions, represent the results
obtained through statistical data and visual graphs.
❑ DISCUSSION: Comparison of results obtained with a previous investigation to find the
differences and discover what improved and correct errors.
❑ REFERENCES: We add all the sources or means from which we obtained the information and
citations mentioned in the document.
❑ FOOTNOTES: Write outstanding final notes of the paper.
❑ TABLES: These can be placed in the text of the work or at the end, followed by the endnotes.
❑ FIGURES: Intersperse the figures between the research text or group them at the end.
❑ APPENDICES: Here you can list boxes, tables or graphs relevant to the investigation.

5. APA Style citations.

To make a correct bibliography, we must ask these 4 questions: Who?


When? What? And where?

Since they should always have these fields:

• Author's name
• Publication date
• Title of the work
• Source of information

7. Chicago Style

Chicago Style is a commonly used style for humanities, sciences and social sciences students. The following sample
paragraph is extracted from:

Chiu, Ann Shu-ju, and Wei-an Chang. "Hakka American Associations and Their Online Discourses: A Case Study of Taiwan
Council Global Website." Chinese America: History & Perspectives (2018): 81-90.

Use one citation style form consistently throughout a paper or thesis. For example, you mention a book and some printed
journal and e-journal articles as follows. All in-text citations and bibliographies are in Chicago Style.

correct citations.
