Step 3: And Finally, Consider My Private Mastermind Forum Direct Help & Videos
I have systematically set up this book so that ALL publishers at ANY level can utilize a
piece of my knowledge to take their businesses to the next level.
One of many goals that I had with this course was to teach you to be free from rules,
tight systems and narrow-mindedness. Far too many of you have been spinning your
wheels in this business because you have forgotten to think for yourself. You follow the
flavor of the month money-making-scheme, time and again, all the while missing out on
how to become truly successful.
And how do you become successful in publishing? By developing your own style and
not following someone elseʼs strict rules - even myself! Itʼs about freedom, writing, fun
and profit. I believe in no “strict system,” but instead live & work by a set of guidelines
that I preach over and over throughout this book (youʼll see what I mean).
The course is easy to follow. The only break in “action steps” involves phase 9, which is
an education phase. For veteran publishers, or even those people who have been
around for a little while, you may want to jump DIRECTLY to phase 9, read through all
of the education sections, then come back to Phase 1 and begin working.
Above all, donʼt let the size of this course make you lose sight of just how simple the
publishing business is. The basic model IS and ALWAYS will be the same:
(Step 3): Join My Private Mastermind Forum For Help & Video Requests.
And finally, consider my private mastermind forum for your video requests, direct help
from me personally and the masterminds of the entire professional community inside.
Due to my #1 rule in the forum that enforces utmost respect and encouragement, we
have the most helpful and negative-free group that Iʼve ever encountered as I go on my
9th year in the business.
In fact, throughout the course you will see the following image inserted after each
phase, with a reminder that my board is a “Respectful Home Where You Can Be
Amongst Other Success-Oriented Peers.” And I mean that!
It can be a lot of work maintaining such a group and making videos each week, but itʼs
my passion and I enjoy teaching what I have learned and experienced in this business.
I have created such a home for you. And I spend my time there helping as many people
possible accomplish their goals inside the community, along with other 6-figure
publishers. So to sign up and get discounted for being a customer, simply go here

Step 1: Get Motivated - How The “Worst Niche” Possible Makes This Guy $500/Day
Step 5: A Few Last Minute Tips As You Brainstorm Possible Niche Areas
Step 6: Check For Video Requests & Forum Discussions (Private Mastermind Members)
As this course was being created I had sent a message to more than 6,000 of you
whom are on my subscriber list to reply back to me with your most pressing and
confusing publishing questions - questions that you felt were the main sticking point in
preventing you from achieving success as a writer and online publisher.
The answers shocked me because most of the men and women replying have been in
the business for quite some time, years in fact. Answers were all over the board: niche
confusion, keyword frustration, SEO troubles, article issues... Everything under the sun!
Here are just a few examples of the questions that came back to me:
“John, how do we know if the niche we pick is going to be a good one to earn a profit
from? How can we know if it is a 6-figure niche, or can all niches make that much?”
“John, I have no idea how to keep coming up with content for my niche. I have
thousands of keywords but am running out of ideas. Can you show me how to have an
endless supply of great content?”
“John, I have recently moved over to wordpress from XsitePro due to your forum
suggestions, but would like to know if I need any additional software to run it smoothly?”
“John, Iʼm confused over this social stuff and am wondering if your course will show me
how I can use it to get more traffic.”
“John, how in the world do I rank for keywords when Google keeps shuffling the top
spots and coming out with updates like Penguin and Panda?”
So Please...
So long as there are lots of other people interested in your niche topic(s), even
the worst niche you can imagine still has the potential to bring you a full-time
income.
Can the absolute worst niche that the Internet Marketing Community would say is “no
good” actually make money? Enough money to reach 6-figures?
I say yes, so letʼs start out with some motivation on a real-life case study from a
personal friend and owner of my favorite site management tool...
Fraser Cain, my friend and owner of Keyword Strategy, has built a six-figure website
around a niche that absolutely NOBODY in the Internet Marketing community would
have said would be profitable - no products, no services, no CPM research, no related
Adsense ads... nothing but “space” and the people that like to read about that stuff...
In fact, the guyʼs niche (if you would call it a niche) has the absolute minimum checklist
requirements that I outline below in this phase.
A) He had a deep passion for the topic. When Fraser started his site, he did so
purely out of total interest.
Fraser did not base his niche upon CPC research and worrying how much money he
might get per click - yet still makes $500+ daily...
Fraser didnʼt worry about the “market” or who was buying stuff in his niche area or
whether he would be able to sell anything - yet still makes $500+ daily...
B) And second, he knew that there were other groups of people out there that
shared the same interests (his targeted audience).
Sounds too good to be true? Well then check out Fraserʼs website:
Go to www.universetoday.com and youʼll see his simple blog that was started years ago
around the universe, stars, solar systems, etc.
Note: Yes - I have his complete and total authorization to share the URL, something I
would never do with my health site, but heʼs also helping by showing just how simple
the business can be.
Two items:
1) First, he is writing approximately 1500 words per day (not very hard at all). Fraser
writes quality content day in and day out, nothing more - nothing less.
2) Second, he also uses his site management tool and internal linking software known
as “Keyword Strategy” (youʼll get a chance to use this later on if you so desire).
3) And third, he does not “build links” as outlined in this article below from Fraser back in
October of 2011:
So add a passionate and fun niche area to your recipe, toss in some sugar and spice in
regards to dominating todayʼs social connections through engaging content, and youʼll
be on your way towards living the publishers dream!
Offer up very good, compelling content that helps people, gives them meaning to come
back, while at the same time providing Google with all of the signals that a site is worthy
of having itʼ pages ranked over time, which is through followers, social signals, natural
links and ongoing “buzz” which, all together, creates a “mini brand” on its own for long-
term sustainment.
So when you start brainstorming your own ideas, I want you to always keep “branding”
in the back of your mind as you embark on the publishing journey.
The fact of the matter is that most of you have been taught to make “sites” built around
keywords and niches (been there, done that), but nobody explains the importance of
shifting your mind away from everything you think you know - to everything you should
know.
The following niche success checklist will be a guide to help you determine whether a
topic is worth going after and if the path of that niche will keep you interested:
Your niche area should feed a group of hungry people that want more and more!
You should be able to come up with at least 1 major solution (more is better).
Your niche area should have products and/or services relating to the topics.
Your niche area should have books and magazines dedicated to the topics.
Your niche should have related topics that show up on news stories.
Your niche should have At least 20+ authority sites (more is better).
Your niche should have dedicated discussion forums (and other social hangouts).
You should be able to create a single mission statement about your potential site.
Your niche area should have possible product ideas you can make in the future.

Now Let’s Break Each Item Down A Bit:
I have 3 passions myself: Anything Health & Fitness related, Success & Business, and
of course - lying out at the Beach. Iʼve created a 6-figure income from my health site
which I started in 2007. I will be creating a Success/Business or Weight Loss site based
on this blueprint sometime this year. And the “beach Niche,” well letʼs just say that its
not a profitable interest - although basking in the sun all day long is my ideal heaven :-)
Back to you... The more you know about your topic or industry, the more profit you can
obtain over the period of the siteʼs growth. Profit alone will only give you so much
motivation to go on, but self-interest will take you all the way to the finish line.
2) Will People Come Back For More, More, More & More? .......... YES____ NO____
But the one thing you CAN control is the ability to:
(C) Enjoy the benefits (and profit) of getting the clicks and/or affiliate sales from
that traffic while the activity pushes all of your long-tail keywords up in rankings.
Listen, I got into the list building game late, but when I did start building min-lists to a
small group of categories on my health site, the results were phenomenal. There were
days that I was able to earn an extra $200 or more in Adsense clicks just by mailing a
notice to the people that subscribed to that specific topic area.
So yes, itʼs best if you choose a niche that has the potential to gain the trust of people
who will want to come back when you have more exciting stuff on your site or blog.
AIf you can then research and brainstorm at least 10 or more solutions - youʼve done
GREAT! However, if you cannot come up with several solutions off the top of your head,
donʼt stress - you can always find them should you really want to.
Potty training...
Now look around and quickly check if you can research and find at least 10 more
solutions. Its easy: Do a quick Google search, Yahoo search, anything. I Googled,
“What to teach my kids?” Googleʼs first page came up with the following ideas:
Here is why:
Remember my Micro Niche Adsense Course from 2009? It was a plan completely built
around product niches (super mini niches). You cannot build the same type of sites that
lasts these days, but everything I wrote in that course about why people would click
more still stands (and will always stand).
• Collecting books and magazines will allow you to easily build your own private library
of updated information, news and solutions.
• Itʼs so easy to create well-written articles when you have expert-written material at
your fingertips.
Not only that, but it makes it easier to curate content when you are in a niche that is
discussed around the web.
Note: Most niches are widely discussed without the need for TV or large News stories.
Keep in mind that if you are concerned about being involved in topics that are not in the
worldʼs face so to speak, itʼs completely fine if this checklist does not apply to you.
Not only that, but the absolute best teacher you can have as a publisher is an
established set of websites that are already out there.
I love finding these sites and subscribing to their lists. I then down their categories and
see what type of content they post. I look for their advertising choices they are earning
their money from and what social circles they are they hanging out in.
Here are 3 examples of mini-mission statements for 3 different niches (Weʼll be creating
a more in-depth mission statement later in the course):
A sound goal with a mission written out and providing the beneficial solutions that you
will be offering to your audience.
The bottom line here is that if you cannot come up with a mission statement then it is
doubtful that you will succeed in the niche.
10) Possible Future Products You Can Create? ............................ YES____ NO____
You are already going to write hundreds of articles over time, so why not put 50 of
those articles into a book one day, post a niche banner for that book on your site, and
sell it?
Listen, Iʼll tell you a big secret on how I broke many $1,000 days on my health site:
My health site progress is known to most of you. If you have followed my online forum
postings and my last 2 books then youʼll know that I started a site in 2007 that covers
many health categories.
And the 3rd is a guide on paleo recipes that I tweaked and came up with. It is
being advertised on several categories since it matches weight loss, bodybuilding,
energy, natural health, etc.
Each of these guides cost less than $20 and they were all created out of the testing of
getting more money for my work involved.
Some days I make sales on all of them, while other days I make non. Iʼm not really
interested in creating sales funnels for each (no time, no interest) to fully maximize
profit, but they have indeed increased our income to fantastic levels.
In other words, not only should you have a passion for the niche area, but there should
be a large group of people out there (or even a small one) that are also just as
passionate for the information you plan on presenting - and for an ongoing basis.
There should be at least one major problem in the niche area that people are trying to
find a solution for. And for the most part, this problem can stem laterally to additional
problems, which go on to connect to more problems, and more, etc. Your mission
statement will help you define this, plus ongoing research (as per this blueprint).
At first it will seem obvious, but as you start to do your niche brainstorming while
keeping the secret ingredient in mind, itʼll really hit you hard about the shift you must
make in your niche thought process.
I know - simple, isnʼt it? And obvious too! But trust me, as you
go through this blueprint and start your own niche brainstorming
sessions you will really start to look at things differently.
Here - let me help the lightbulb go off a little brighter for you by showing exactly what I
mean over a couple of niches:
• New way of thinking: No, you are NOT in the golf club
niche, you are in the “golf loverʼs niche” where you will
build a high quality website that gives passionate
golfers everything they are wanting to know, buy, read
or feel pertaining to the sport.
This means more money, more readers, more sharing of your articles, and more FUN
working and publishing content for these insanely joyous people who love golf!
Yes you must do ʻniche researchʼ but when deciding and going through your niche
checklist you must figure out the people you are trying to help, not the topics.
For fitness, I would brainstorm the angle first - Do I want to help people lose weight?
Then what people? Perhaps I would target women, as they are the best because they
have been shown statistically to buy more weight loss stuff, try more diet plans, etc.
Also, a different example angle would be the “Paleo Diet” and everything under the sun.
There are individuals making a killing on helping PEOPLE to lose weight and get fit
through the eating of the Paleo way.
Health and wellness information for diabetes prevention, food and special recipe
options, and of course all of the standard diabetes products and services (I sell about 5
copies of a small diabetic pamphlet each week for $19.95 each. It is marketed as 20
ways to stop diabetes the natural wayʼ.
In other words, donʼt just download a keyword list full of all of the “diabetes
phrases” and start writing blindly.
Yes, you obviously want these phrases for your site but try to create a “home” that these
people can go to for the latest and greatest updates on:
And so on...
In fact this is a great niche to go into. I for one am VERY passionate about this area for
myself and my familyʼs wellbeing.
Such a site targeting people like me would have me coming back to read updates on:
And so on...
1) Use your mind: Your own mind is the most powerful tool you will use - you must
learn to think, brainstorm ideas when you see an interest, no software can do it for you.
Go for interests first, above all things.
2) Think audience & people: Drop the niche terms and keywords when considering
your selection. Think audience and angles for that audience. All types of niche sizes do
work, but lets focus on the people. It can be a super tight niche area or as wide and
open as you like.
3) Heed the checklist: As you start your own brainstorming, always keep in mind the
checklist. The ideal niche will have all 10 items checked off, but on the other hand
virtually any niche will work (itʼs open game for us publishers - NO BOUNDARIES)
4) The 3 Pʼs minimum: Yes, heed the checklist for all 10 items but on the other hand
don't stress over having to cover every single angle. Think about the “3 Pʼs” and
Fraserʼs Space niche area. If space could be made into a full-time income when very
little actual related products and services exist then I am sure your ideas will work just
as well so long as the 3 Pʼs exist (Products, Problems & Passion).
5) Forget numbers: CPC is not necessary, volume is not necessary, etc. Common
sense is all you need to get started, plus my suggested list.
6) Your goal: To get up to 20 niche ideas on paper, then slowly narrow them down to
your #1 choice.
Step 3: Now Let’s Begin - Getting That First Handful Of Hero Sites
Step 4: Now Begin To Dissect & Evaluate Those Hero Sites (As Instructed In Step 1)
Step 6: Check For Video Requests & Forum Discussions (Private Mastermind Members)
Note: Above I ask you to “begin collecting” because gathering resources is an ongoing
phase for your career. It never ends. You must always be on the hunt for information to
offer your audience, hero sites to help you with education, and great stuff to curate with
your own articles. This information comes from television, websites, books, magazines,
affiliate ads, etc.
Below is a list of items you will be collecting. You will find the reasons why you are
collecting these items. You will also find out how they will benefit your journey.
First of all, you will manually collect at least 20 (to start) established, high quality
authority websites that are in your niche area. This first list is merely to see the
successful related sites out there and to use them as a model for your own website.
Eventually you will gather at list of 100+ websites (or more for some of you) to use as
content curation (more on that later), link-building & networking. But for now just a few
manual searches will do just fine.
These sites should be directly related to your niche area (lateral sites will come into play
later, but for now letʼs try to stay as direct as possible). For example, in this section Iʼll
hunt down sites that are mostly about the “Paleo Diet” way, but lateral sites like health,
fitness, organic eating, etc. will be set aside as well for use in the near future.
These “directly related websites” will now be on your list as “hero sites.” These hero
sites are businesses that you should be looking up to, studying, and working on building
a relationship with.
They are just other contributors who are all feeding the circles of people that are hungry
for what you and these other sites have to offer. There is plenty to go around. If you start
thinking inside the box and stop being scared of established sites in your niche then the
sky is the limit!
As Wallace D. Wattles says in his AWESOME short book known as The Science Of
Getting Rich:
The fact of the matter is that all you have to do is study and implement what these other
established websites are doing. In time, you can achieve the same success plain and
simple.
No, itʼs not a robotic effort. Just because successful hero site (A) has 100 articles
doesnʼt mean that all you need is 100 articles. They also combine interest, passion,
Here is what you should be looking for on each website you consider a hero and getting
the following ideas for your own business:
Hero Site Design (Check out how they have designed their sites and how you
might like yours to be the same).
Hero Category Ideas (What categories they have settled on and maybe you
might like similar ones).
Hero Keyword Ideas (You will run these URLs and gather all of the keyword
phrases fond on their websites to give you more content ideas).
Hero Newsletter Ideas (You will study their newsletter sign-up process to see
how they interact with the viewers and how you can mimic that process).
Products & Services Recommended (You will start a list of affiliate products and
services that you may want to promote later on).
Hero Social Circles (You will see what social buttons they are pushing on their
article pages. What forums they may be participating in. Look and see which they are
using the most between Facebook, Twitter, etc. Also look for additional social hangouts
they may be dominating (like Reddit, Pinterest, etc.).
Hero Article Ideas (You will see the best articles written on these websites.
Check and see what you can use from their best articles, how you can make them
better or simply add to them).
Hero Curation Ideas (Content curation is very risky if done wrong, but very
helpful to your viewers if done correctly).
3) You Will Start Your Collection Of Magazine Resources (Possibly Books Too)
I realize that not all niches will have such items for you to gather, and thatʼs ok, but what
Iʼm going to need you to do is think:
L-A-T-E-R-A-L-L-Y...
Laterally...
This means that if you are in a niche that does not have any offline material out there,
you should then move to the side and get materials that are related to your niche.
The “Paleo Diet” example would be ideal to mention here. There are, at this time, no
magazines dedicated to this lifestyle. There ARE, however, an abundance of magazines
that I can find on nutrition, fitness, organic eating, food, etc.
Remember: If I were to actually live & breathe this niche, I would understand that my
“paleo audience” are not just wanting to learn about the diet; they are also after the
following items:
A better lifestyle.
A fitter body.
A healthier brain.
A disease-free body.
A sexier midsection.
Etc.
Can you already start to understand that although my niche example is extremely
limited on magazine resources, I can still run out and grab at least 10-20 LATERAL
magazine sources for later?
The same goes for books! But because they are expensive, I would advise you to
immediately go out and buy only a few that you KNOW are going to be a great source
for your upcoming content ideas.
Because health and business are my 2 passions in life, I already have about 300 books
in my collection between the two.
(This is not counting my digital Kindle books - I LOVE that new kindle fire!)
Both books and magazines are insanely easy for promoting content and curation ideas
for your websites. I personally enjoy taking articles from these materials and using them
as templates for my own content. This works great in the health area and hundreds of
other niche arenas.
If you want to stay onboard with earning a living from high-quality websites, you must
learn how to interact with your audience.
Building a list and sending them a few emails each week is actually very simple stuff.
The hard part is finding confidence in your ability to do so.
As you sign up for your hero site newsletters, you will make notes on how they
communicated with their welcome email, how often they send updates, what type of
content do they direct to you, how they make their money (this is big!), etc.
5) You Will Find Related Forums, Social Hangouts & Discussion Groups
Forums are an EXCELLENT way of keeping up with industry questions, tips and advice
that are being sought out by your audience.
Not only can you utilize both high-traffic discussion groups for keywords and questions
and hot topics on your own sites, but these areas may be great places to start your own
branded title by becoming a contributing member and building up more of an audience
to follow your blog or site.
Then, we also have the huge list of social media 2.0 places like Pinterest, Reddit, etc. If
your hero sites are active, you may want to see what they are doing (although as I hit
upon the social media movement later in the course, I would keep it VERY simple for
now - Facebook and Twitter are just fine to start - then branch out if and when you want
to).
As you build your business and see how these other leading sites are doing, there will
be times when you see an interesting angle coming from these publishers that you may
want to implement yourself.
So my advice is to always keep up with your top 3-5 favorite related authority sites.
Keep notes and stay open minded at all times. Do not copy them, but do not be afraid to
mimic their moves to help you find your own direction at the same time.
You will also come across resources for your niche while shopping, watching TV or even
driving around in your car. Always be on the look out!
It was designed as a black-hat software tool, but I use it for research only (and I do not
advise that you utilize it for anything automatic that could hurt your site, like scraping
content or automated blog commenting, etc.)
Now, you already know about my “Big 5” must-have tools for the super-motived
publishers and that they are ALL discounted due to a special arrangement on each.
Unfortunately for ScrapeBox, I was not able to make such an arrangement. I also
cannot rebate anything personally because they do not offer an affiliate program.
For your own niche area, however, you must take these steps (which i am trying my
best to make as easy to follow as possible), and use your best judgement within your
own niche research and blueprint approach.
Donʼt make this complicated because itʼs not. What you are really doing here is finding
sites that you would like to emulate, thatʼs all.
Some parameters for what counts as a quality-type hero site goes something like
this (example guidelines only, some very great sites may be younger or with less
content, so use your best judgement).
Updated regularly - And obviously not a cheap MFA site (made for adsense)...
Does all the right things: newsletter, affiliate products, their own products, etc.
The Steps:
a) You will need to have at least 1 niche seed theme keyword, more is better.
c) The idea is to look at the top 10-20 ranked sites and add them to your hero site list.
d) And of course, sort through and highlight the ones that catch your eye!
You can actually have hundreds of these types of keywords to find hero sites, but itʼs not
necessary to worry about so many - it all depends on your niche area. Since my
example is the Paleo Diet niche, then obviously the first seed keyword will be “Paleo” to
search in Google. Letʼs take a look:
All of these 5 Paleo niche sites have what I consider “well-established businesses” that I
would want to mimic and grab the same exposure through.
Obviously you want to get more hero sites to add to your list, so you can do the
following:
2) Check different keyword variations of your overall theme for more listings.
For more hero sites to get your juices flowing I would recommend that you go through
the same process utilizing a variety of different keyword variations of your overall
theme.
For this process, all you need is the free Google keyword tool (or any keyword tool that
you may want to use). Pop in your main keyword and then start searching Google for
each keyword and go through all of the websites.
Again, a reminder about ScrapeBox. Below you can see that I added 5 keywords. I
selected Google, Yahoo, AOL, and the top 30 results with the click of just one button.
In less than 1 minute, the program brought back hundreds of domains and automatically
removed the duplicates leaving me with 128 URLs to check through without having to
search each keyword. Try it - youʼll love it!
Dissecting what you want, how you want it, and taking notes on the stuff youʼd like to
emulate from hero sites is VERY personal to YOU and YOUR niche.
For example:
• I may see a site and like the way it was designed - you may not like the same design.
• Your content may be differently appealing to me and my audience, than mine would be
to you.
• I may like the way specific newsletters were sent out and I would mimic them, but you
may have a different taste, etc.
In other words, I just need to remind you that this is a blueprint, a guide, a set of steps
that you have to use to mold and pound into YOUR own unique form.
Remember, you are looking for guidance in the following areas from hero sites:
Etc...
(2) Pick several site designs that you might like to provide to a graphics designer
later for a reference.
(3) Write down all category ideas that you can see these sites using, plus the
related material that is published under each category (although I advise adding
categories as you go along and not all in the beginning).
(4) Sign up for several newsletters which can be used later as a reference (if you
are list building).
(5) Copy and paste all content curation articles for your personal swipe file
templates.
(7) Check out if these sites have any forum links in their navigation menu.
(8) Check to see what social buttons they push and what they are posting on
Facebook & Twitter (or anywhere else they are active).
(9) Check to see what call to actions they are enforcing (more on that in the blog
post action steps).
(10) And most importantly, check to see what additional products and services they
are highlighting, selling or talking about throughout their articles.
Remember, I need you to think L-A-T-E-R-A-L-L-Y (not just direct niche material, but
related as well).
And please use common sense - do not go grabbing and spending hundreds of dollars
on information just because the title says something about your niche.
Here would be a nice little start if I were to chase the Paleo Diet Niche area:
(These are magazines that I would collect because they are lateral to my Paleo
niche example)
In other words, ALWAYS have a way to take down notes when you are away from your
computer. While driving, a commercial might play on the radio in your niche area that
you might want to reference, or a newspaper item might become visible while you are
out shopping, etc.
These are a set of flyers that were given away which covered some GREAT articles on
genetically engineered foods, organic shopping, living green, etc.
What do these organic flyers have to do with the Paleo diet niche, you might ask?
Everything!
Remember that Iʼm trying to get the word “LATERAL” ingrained in your head. Along with
serving a group of “PEOPLE” with your business and not a specific niche.
I know firsthand that paleo people have a huge interest in the list that I have already
given you, and to refresh your memory, Iʼll list those interests down again:
A better lifestyle...
A fitter body...
A healthier brain...
A sexier midsection...
Step 4: Time For A Trim - Now Create Your Site’s Tagline Slogan (Optional)
Step 6: Now Set Aside Your Tagline Until You Set Up Your Site In Later Phases
Step 7: Check For Video Requests & Forum Discussions (Private Mastermind Members)
I need to remind you that this course was meant to be easy to follow, easy to
implement, and quick bursts of items to do with some light explanation and theory.
Get your chosen niche area and targeted group of people down solid first - NO
TESTING.
In other words, go through this blueprint but do NOT just start a site to “see if it works,”
or to “test a niche.” That is a total and complete waste of your time.
What you are about to do is build a high quality website that will attract thousands of
like-minded people to the content over time. You do not have time to waste on “testing”
in this business.
I realize that this advice may sound like total nonsense from other business
approaches, and I agree, but not with publishing. You should know right from the start
There is no such thing as “testing” a high-volume, content-packed authority site for 6-12
months - you either give it your heart and soul or you donʼt.
Iʼd much rather see you spend 3 months brainstorming niches and then deciding on one
instead of working your butt off for 3 months only to go “yeah well I ʻtestedʼ this niche
and it doesʼt work.”
And PLEASE...
Not only will you have a nice flow of information to get you started on your way towards
content creation, keyword research, and affiliate plans - but most importantly youʼll have
direction and confidence with the overall goal of the website.
Youʼll have a written statement down of exactly why your site will exist, who your
site is targeting, and how your site will be providing benefits to these people.
This statement will also be considered for the “tag line” of your header design or
logo. You will also use a version of this mission statement for your “about us” page if
you like.
And most importantly, if you cannot seem to create an exciting and logical mission
statement, then let that be a sign that you just might not have the right niche area or
group of people to work with yet (so back to the brainstorming drawing board ya go!).
Ok, perhaps I should have outlined this over my last 2 books, but Iʼm
only human and canʼt think of everything every time :)
Note: This is an important step because not only does it define your siteʼs purpose, but
it will also keep you focused. By printing this statement out and reading it before you
write every article, publish every product review, utilize every promotion tactic, etc.,
youʼll have a clear mental picture and an emotional guide of your set out goals;
therefore, keeping you from straying.
What motivated you to choose your niche area? What is it about the opportunity that
excites you to publish information and share stories with people? What makes you
passionate enough for this business that will spark off a strong commitment?
2) Who exactly is your audience & how do you plan on helping them?
What type of people are you trying to reach out to? Are they men? Women? Children?
Everyone? What type of items are they looking for that you can provide? Are these
people in need of fast solutions? Inquiring information only? Looking to make something
better in their lives? What problems can you help your audience resolve? What
solutions are you going to offer? Will you be available to answer email questions?
Answer phone calls? Create and interact on your own discussion forum?
What sources will generate revenue? Do you plan on offering affiliate products? Your
own products? Advertising income?
Do you have a vision for your own products in the future? Are you considering free
reports? Does the idea of starting your own community or membership appeal to you?
What will your business separate you from the rest? Do you have personal experiences
to share in regards to your niche? Can your own story motivate others to accomplish the
same? What benefits will you provide to lure your people back for more?
No, you cannot. Please take the time to sit down for 20 minutes or less and define your
“WHY.” It must be crystal clear as to why you are doing what it is you are doing. NOT
establishing your “why” at this point is senseless.
Here, letʼs look at my own example - Iʼm going to give you my own mission statement
example as if I were to go into the Paleo Diet niche...
Iʼm going to go through each of my 5-question directions that I gave you in the last step
so that I can develop a mission statement (from the heart, mind you). This will show you
how one writing assignment will give me everything I would need to stay on track. It will
also define my audience and display the type of content that I am going to provide:
“My audience are people of all ages and backgrounds who have an interest in
feeling better, getting healthy, and minimizing illness and disease. I can help them
by suggesting outstanding paleo recipes, exercise and supplements to maximize
health and energy. I plan on helping people by offering email questions, possibly a
forum, and gathering information around the web for better sharing of my
knowledge, both created and discovered.”
“Revenue from this business will be in the form of Advertising programs like
Adsense & Chitika to start with. I will also be recommending the best books and
supplements which may also have affiliate programs. Eventually, I will have enough
people (traffic) coming to my site on a monthly basis where I can sell advertising
space for other related websites in this niche area.”
“What will make my business unique is that I have personal interest, passion and
experiences with improving my life through the Paleo lifestyle. We all enjoy
hearing about success stories. In today's western society (even the eastern ones
too) diseases are on the rise no matter how many drugs and medicines are
produced. I believe that my own passion for this niche area will attract people to
want to read my website daily, share the content with others, and purchase any
reports that I may create in the future.”
I simply went directly over the 5 questions, answered them and thought seriously about
what I would want to do with the business, how to do it, and possible future plans.
Now you will take all of that information and trim it down.
You will use it on your tagline, websiteʼs header design
and/or logo.
How you do this is up to you, but you basically want to narrow it down to 1 brief
sentence. If you must, you could even write a small paragraph.
It also does not have to be in the header - it can be somewhere on your home page. I
do feel itʼs best to have it listed at the top of the fold.
(You will type this up and save it later for your header/logo design).
2) I also listed the benefits that I wanted to provide: Feeling and looking great, plus good
health.
3) Most importantly, I wanted to put it all together and make the tagline as attractive as
possible by hitting what each group of people want: We all want our kids to be smart,
men love to be handsome and strong, and women are always after tips on feeling and
looking sexy.
Tagline Example 3 of 5:
“Train Collecting”
www.traincollectors.org.uk
Tagline Example 5 of 5:
“Step-Parenting”
www.steptalk.org
(Step 6): Now Set Aside Your Tagline Until You Set Up
Your Site In Later Phases
Next, weʼll be going into domain names and getting
your wordpress outline hosted and set up. XsitePro
or any other site builder is just fine.
My personal view is that a person coming to your home page should be able to instantly
get an idea of what your site is about. It could be from either the tagline, the header
image/logo or both.
Step 2: Here Is How You Come Up With A Fun & Brandable Domain (Live Examples)
Step 3: Use “Dot-o-Mator” If You Are Stuck On Ideas (Free Brainstorm Tool)
Step 4: Purchase Your Domain & Buy Hosting (Simple Enough, But Here Are 8 Tips)
Step 5: Check For Video Requests & Forum Discussions (Private Mastermind Members)
First consider whether your site will branch out laterally (going broader on topics) over
time. I have seen many publishers make the mistake of getting a domain that is super
narrow but they decided to grow out the site in other directions.
This can hurt your success because people DO look at the domain name at times and if
it has nothing to do with a specific search then you may miss that opportunity for
grabbing them as a reader (not always the case, but it is something to consider).
For example, if you have a passion for reviewing baby strollers and your domain was
justbabystrollers.com (example domain only), then what happens when you realize that
these people would also love to read about other baby topics that you want to get into?
This would be failing before you even begin.
Iʼve combined these 2 tips into one suggestion because they directly relate to each
other. First, never copy someone elseʼs domain name by only changing a small letter or
number. You will run the risk of getting sued by this company and theyʼll have a good
chance of shutting you down.
Speaking of getting shut down, do not use trademarked terms. Avoid specific product
names (although Iʼve personally been lucky from my Micro Niche days with this), and
avoid anything that would be copying the name of any other business or site.
Just stick with the .com extension and you will never worry about whether you chose the
right one or not. I say that because of course there is nothing wrong with the other
extensions but itʼs far more easier to just make the most common choice and then end
the thought process.
Regardless of what you choose, also register all 3 extensions under your domain name
so that you own the routes (.com, .org and .net). You do not want someone to come in
and copy you (this is especially true if you go with a BRANDED domain).
4) Choose Cool, Fun, Hip & Brandable - But Combine A Keyword If You Wish
This may not always be possible depending on your preferences, but if you can you
should use both a keyword and a brandable term in your domain name.
In other words, use a phrase that people can immediately relate to who is interested in
your topics, then add a fun and snappy term to make it the perfect combination.
Brandable and fun names are easy to come up with and you can use virtually anything
you want. But like I said before, try to make it somewhat related to your niche.
Immediately before I released this course Google came out with another smashing
update that were specifically targeted to killing “Exact Match Domain” on “Low Quality
Sites,” as seen below:
I wasnʼt even going to mention avoiding them here because I figured everyone keeps up
with search engine news, Google updates, and is finished with those crappy little sites.
I was wrong...
I just popped in on some marketing forums and there is a whole line of thousands of
newbies still eating up that dead-old advice to avoid building a real publishing asset in
order to play push-button games with sites that will NEVER get anywhere (Does $5
articles and 10 pages ring a bell?).
But I digress...
The point is that you should be focusing on an asset instead of going in circles with
small thin sites that only get booted out of every Google rankings update.
And of course, this is all connected to exact match domains. Most are trash. Most are
meant for a few pages of text and hopefully some clicks. Most are made for short-term
selfishness instead of long-term reader value.
That is why Google is working to lessen their presence in their search engine so the
bottom line: Donʼt Do It!
What can I say - this step really needs no explaining or any insider-secrets to get it
done. But there are always a few common questions people ask so here goes...
1) Yes, you can purchase and host your domain at the same location but it is not
required. I personally like to get my domains at 1&1 and then host them at Hostgator,
(for no other reason than I’ve been using them both for years). Please do your own
research for other companies if you wish.
2) For the best customer service in domains, research Dotster (I have talked with a few
veterans in the game and they have said many good things about this company’s
customer service)
3) Remember, get all 3 extensions once you are certain about your niche. It’s not
necessary but highly advised.
4) Try to get your domain for longer than 1 year if you are confident about your
business plan. There is a rumor around the Internet Marketing circles that says Google
looks at this info and adds “points” (more credibility) to our sites for rankings. I tend to
agree.
5) For privacy, register non-private and in a company name if you are wanting to be out
in the open. For example, if you are already going create a very personal authority site
that shares your experiences, pictures and such - go public. If you are wanting to
remain more private, go private (nothing wrong with that at all).
6) For hosting, you can start small on a “Baby Package” and then upgrade as you
build more traffic and use your allotted space. I’ve been doing that since the beginning.
8) Last but not least, yes - you can purchase a used domain if you wish. By being
cautious and not getting a domain that’s been blacklisted or shows a shady past you
can get some good finds. I personally like the challenge and freshness of starting new,
but you may have a different opinion.
Step 12: Tweak Your Site & Have Fun With Personal Adjustments (Don’t Fiddle)
Step 13: Check For Video Requests & Forum Discussions (Private Mastermind Members)
I switched from XsitePro to wordpress for the publishing business because it is a very
simple platform, easy to post, and with the Clickbump engine it turns the site into a
powerful and streamlined content poster.
(2) If you are ALREADY using wordpress, is the Clickbump software even
necessary?
Again, like everything else in this business nothing is absolutely necessary. So no, you
can just use the free wordpress software and pick up a cool template and some
minimum plug-ins as you move along.
Trust me, you will be glad you did, especially if you plan on following my suggested site
management and rankings program in the blueprint that Fraser Cain has put together
(the program needs wordpress to automatically internal link anchor texts within your
content to similar pages which helps induce rankings for those pages).
(3) What happened to XsitePro? Isnʼt that what your most profitable health
website is built around, the one you documented on a marketing forum back in
2008?”
Iʼd to also add that you can still follow this blueprint by using ANY site builder of your
choice. So if you are a fan of XsitePro or another program, by all means use whatever
you are comfortable with.
Seriously, donʼt stress over this stuff. Use what you like and switch if you want to learn a
new experience and grow in a different direction. On the other hand, do take my advice
if you want to excel and become more streamlined. Itʼs that simple :)
2) Privacy Settings: Block the search engines until you are ready.
I have arranged an exclusive deal from Scott with all customers of my AMC3 course so
that you can benefit by saving money on the clickbump engine.
Only at my discounts page will you find the lowest price on the clickbump engine
package, so please head over there when you are ready to install the program and grab
your $20 discount:
Here is your exclusive discount link (as shown in the image above):

You know the ones - they will get you tons of traffic, bring in
thousands of clicks, make those awesome subscribers just
triple overnight...
Iʼm going on my 8th year in this business (since 2005) and have made an online
success out of virtually all of the mainstream avenues (T.E. sites, micro niche sites, my
high quality authority site, reports, books, memberships, etc.)
The truth is that for a sustainable and long-term profitable website we can no longer use
layouts that force a visitor to click, comes off as spammy, or has too many ads above
the fold and in the face of readers.
In fact, thousands of you lost rankings when one of Googleʼs millionth updates occurred.
Letʼs time travel now back to January of 2012:
“As weʼve mentioned previously, weʼve heard complaints from users that if they
click on a result and itʼs difficult to find the actual content, they arenʼt happy with
the experience.
“Rather than scrolling down the page past a slew of ads, users want to see
content right away. So sites that donʼt have much content “above-the-fold” can be
affected by this change.
“If you click on a website and the part of the website you see first either doesnʼt
have a lot of visible content above-the-fold or dedicates a large fraction of the
siteʼs initial screen real estate to ads, thatʼs not a very good user experience.
Such sites may not rank as highly going forward.
“We understand that placing ads above-the-fold is quite common for many
websites; these ads often perform well and help publishers monetize online
content.
“This algorithmic change does not affect sites who place ads above-the-fold to a
normal degree, but affects sites that go much further to load the top of the page
with ads to an excessive degree or that make it hard to find the actual original
content on the page.
“This new algorithmic improvement tends to impact sites where there is only a
small amount of visible content above-the-fold or relevant content is persistently
pushed down by large blocks of ads.
“If you believe that your website has been affected by the page layout algorithm
change, consider how your web pages use the area above-the-fold and whether
the content on the page is obscured or otherwise hard for users to discern
quickly. You can use our Browser Size tool, among many others, to see how your
website would look under different screen resolutions.
“If you decide to update your page layout, the page layout algorithm will
automatically reflect the changes as we re-crawl and process enough pages from
your site to assess the changes.
“How long that takes will depend on several factors, including the number of
pages on your site and how efficiently Googlebot can crawl the content. On a
typical website, it can take several weeks for Googlebot to crawl and process
enough pages to reflect layout changes on the site.
“Overall, our advice for publishers continues to be to focus on delivering the best
possible user experience on your websites and not to focus on specific algorithm
tweaks. This change is just one of the over 500 improvements we expect to roll
out to search this year. As always, please post your feedback and questions in
our Webmaster Help forum.
So what does this mean for us publishers and how can we best protect our sites with
using template and layout designs so that we do not get penalized?
You need to be able to adjust your layouts as you go along if need be, keeping your
content as the prime important item on your site and doing your best to avoid throwing
ads in the face of your viewers.
It did mine, but thatʼs the game we have to play and the rules we have to abide by. In
time, with enough pages online (and following this blueprint advice on your niche with
quality content, curation and following a passion), you wonʼt even notice a huge
difference over the long haul.
Your main goal these days is NOT to get a visitor to just click an ad and leave. Instead
you want them to stick around, sign up to your list, read more stuff, watch more videos,
share your content with others, etc.
All of these items (plus focus on social syndication), is what will make a site more
powerful over time, not to mention “owning” your traffic by building a following (weʼll get
to that soon).
Times have changed and itʼs no longer practical to rely on just search engine traffic with
little sites that have a bunch of Adsense ads above the fold. You need to build a real
asset which is actually EASY once you get the hang of things.
Inside your admin area you will make the following changes:
There are always a ton of plug-in questions for Wordpress and if there is one major
thing that I have learned about this software is that LESS is MORE.
Over time you will select more plugins if they seem like a good fit. For example, later on
weʼll look into some Wordpress security plugins, breadcrumbs, etc. But for now letʼs just
keep it simple and get your site off the ground.
So I want you to start off with the absolute minimum plug-ins you need and try your best
not to overload the platform with all types of shiny objects and toys along the way.
If you have the Clickbump Engine then this is baked right in and there is no need to add
anything else. Otherwise, I know that the “All In One SEO Pack” is a very popular and
reliable one you can use. But as you know already I feel itʼs best to have your
wordpress software with SEO “baked in,” so to speak.
Having a Google XML Sitemap will be very beneficial in helping the search engine
spiders crawl your entire site. New sites should definitely have one and bigger sites that
may not have pages properly internally linking to one another should have one.
This will come in later. And if you choose to use the site management tool that I advise
(and am using myself) then it automatically comes with an internal linking plug-in that
works beautifully.
If you do not want to use this advised program then you can Google “internal linking
plugin for wordpress” (or a variation of that search term) and get some additional
reviews from other publishers (but personally for me, I know that I can trust the plug-in
that Fraser created for the KS site management tool).
But for the sake of getting your site operational with a site skeleton, so to speak, you
may come up with some simple paragraphs for now that describe your website and
what has inspired you to start up the niche.
My Suggestions:
Use your hero site file! (we collected those for a reason).
A great idea is to rewrite your MISSION STATEMENT - ideal for home page
content!
There are 3 ways of tending to the home page when someone visits your site:
(A) You can have nothing specific on the home page, just rolling content entries
(like most blogs).
(B) You could have a solid piece of content on the home page, without any post
updates.
(C) Or my personal preference, you can have some content and also include links
to all recent posts on your site (headlines only, next to an image).
There is no right or wrong way here so please do not make it stressful. If you are just
starting out then stick to a basic home page post that introduces people to your site.
Over time, you can eventually build up your home page with specific instructions like
this cool page here: http://www.paleoplan.com (which is only something you can
create over a period of time).
(Zoom To View)
For wordpress users, make sure that all of these are set as PAGES (not posts).
For Clickbump users - great news - itʼs ALREADY DONE for you!
Stuck on how to change up your pages? No problem, just grab those hero sites of yours
and take a browse through them.
***Of course DO NOT COPY THEM, but merely grab some ideas for your own twist.
Here I found a great “About Us” page from a Paleo site (ZOOM TO ENLARGE):

Reminder...
How To Decide:
Letʼs take a look at Steve Pavlinaʼs blog over at www.stevepavlina.com. This guy
started with one, maybe two categories at first, and built up to 35 or more over time:
• Categories do not need to be overly optimized (or optimized at all) and you do not
need to stress over having your entire website structure planned out from the beginning.
• Yes I realize that this is complete and total opposite of the advice given by many SEO
guruʼs out there (and even I have toyed with this notion in the past). But with our
business model of constantly finding new and exiting ideas to write about, questions to
answers and LATERAL keyword topics - itʼs totally impossible to plan all of this stuff
ahead!
(Some business models DO require total keyword planning, like a super tight niche with
no lateral focus, or an e-commerce site, or a specific business that sells specific
products, etc.)
Now letʼs get to the 3 basic rules of category creation that will work for you no matter
what:
Do not keyword stuff - always think of the visitor experience first, not a search engine. In
other words, using my Paleo example, most new publishers would end up with these
categories:
• Paleo Diet
• Paleo Exercise
• Paleo Recipes
• Paleo Books
• Paleo Interviews
• Paleo For Kids
• Paleo For Babies
While the above example might have been the norm taught to you in the past, itʼs purely
from a spammy SEO standpoint and should now be avoided.
It just plain looks spammy, keyword stuffed and if you ever come up for a manual review
then you probably know what the reviewer is going to think of your site.
Instead think natural (like a book index). When someone comes to your site itʼs obvious
that itʼs focused on the Paleo lifestyle, diet and exercise, so a better way to outline these
possible categories would be something like this:
• Recipes
• Expert Interviews
• Etc.
Do not get stuck with the idea that you have to plan your entire site out from the get-go.
Sure it is feasible advice for many businesses but we are publishing for an audience -
for fun, for advertising profits - not to create a plan that is based on loose keyword
data from the start.
Although optional, you may write up a short category description if you like. I noted this
as “optional” because you do not actually need content on your category pages. The
general purpose of a category page for the type of sites/blogs we are building is simply
to index the content links that relate to that category (articles, videos, audio, etc.).
If you are smart then you keep up with the Google updates (Adsense & Webmaster
blogs) and know that they have completely changed the advice given in the old heat
map for best ad placement:
• Limited ads above the fold (meaning as soon as a page is loaded without scrolling).
• Less is more (do not have the full allotted ads allowed.
Fortunately Scott made it terribly easy for you and I to have a site up with the exact
Adsense positions we want on every article page:
Not only that, but if you plan on using my suggested site management tool later in the
blueprint (Keyword Strategy), then you must have webmaster tools & Google analyticls
set up for it to properly work.
Webmaster Tools:
Once you add your websiteʼs URL then the next screen will immediately show up and
ask you to follow 4 simple steps. Follow these instructions until your account is verified.
Now itʼs time to connect with your Google analytics, which the easiest part.
Again, let me remind you that there is no rush to learn all of the tracking statistics yet.
This will come in time and you canʼt really do anything anyway without traffic.
(And I will update you with some posts both on my blog and inside my Private
Mastermind Forum as I obtain tips here and there for Google Analytics).
This one is extremely simple. You just sign up and get the code, then paste that code
inside the proper Clickbump area (footer or header).
Just go to "ClickBump > Extras" and paste the analytics code into the box labeled
"Google Analytics & Custom Footer Scripts"
Note: There is also a plug-in you can use for wordpress, but I prefer not to bog down
the platform with any unnecessary plug-ins.
(Step 12): Tweak Your Site & Have Fun With Personal
Adjustments (Donʼt Fiddle Too Much)
Remember that at this point you are just trying
to get your basic site structure up and running
so please do not stress about having the perfect
looking layout or color-scheme yet.
And if you have any specific questions on how to do stuff, be sure to:
Step 3: The 3 Major Platforms & Which Ones To Start With First
Step 5: Start Posting On Facebook & Twitter (Don’t Just Have An Empty House)
Step 7: Check For Video Requests & Forum Discussions (Private Mastermind Members)
You can always get to these items later if you wish (the subscriber box is extremely
important in my opinion, as you will want to build up a list of people that like your
content, want to hear more from you, and that can make you a lot more money).
And fan pages are a simple way to communicate with your followers at a later date and
build relationships with some of the best potential backlink providers possible -
HEROES!
And second, set up a Fan Page for your new blog (Total time: 1-4 hours)
(Easy to do, but you must choose what type of platform is best of your niche)
Once I decided to focus on several categories, set up an opt-in box and start emailing
the small list I had about new articles and product reviews - the results were amazing!
I started off emailing about 50 people once per week. And on those specific days the
content in which I directed them to increased in Adsense clicks by huge numbers.
As the list grew, so did my anticipation to sell them something instead of just making
Adsense clicks. So I typed up 3 short reports and they sell for $19.95 on my health site
(in 3 different categories).
Start Small...
Of course you probably are not thinking this far ahead at the moment, and thatʼs ok!
In fact for those of you who are a bit green to this stuff all you need to do is set up a
very simple paragraph for the welcome email. You can adjust as you go along.
Your goal is to make money with good content, right? So why not have a large group of
people you can immediately direct to that content whenever you wish?
And “building a list” is not hard, itʼs automatic - you do nothing but mention to sign up
now and again and offer a “call to action” (which will be discussed in detail in the
promotion plan).
Donʼt think too much here: Get the opt-in box up NOW with 1 tiny welcome email for
the upcoming visitors!
To avoid freezing here, just write up 1 welcome email so that your subscribers get a
“thank you for subscribing” message or something similar.
I do advise later on that you create a better incentive for signing up, like an article min-
series, free 10-page report, or whatever YOUR NICHE audience would like (everyone is
different).
To get example email welcomes in your niche area, simply study the heros out there -
get on their list and check out what they send you!
Here ya go - Use this as a template if you would like. Itʼs Walmartʼs example and I
actually think itʼs a simple and smart way to start (who would have thought?):
Or you could just flirt around the Aweber site for some more info, like here at the
following link:
http://www.aweber.com/blog/email-marketing/3-good-welcome-email-examples.htm
1) Facebook
2) Twitter
Now this part is fairly easy, and there is no direct one-size-fits-all platform to work with.
The most common are Facebook & Twitter, but Linkedin, Google+, etc. are also growing
but not all of them may suit your niche audience.
(1) Letʼs say that you build up a list of 100 followers over time (these are your
readers, those that read your article and then chose to follow you on Facebook).
Now each time you post about your new articles or anything related to your site, this
message (and the links) is now shared on Facebook (all of your followers get a
message, and without you SPAMMING them).
(2) Second, letʼs add to the ʻmore links, visitors and moneyʼ situation. Facebook
users enjoy sharing links with their other friends - BINGO!
The Benefit: Even MORE links, MORE visitors and MORE Money!
The Benefit: Yep you guessed it - MORE EVERYTHING! (links, visitors, cash!)
(4) Fourth, you can post tons more stuff on Facebook than your weekly blog
posting schedule. For example, if you just found a hot topic to quickly post about on
Facebook which you were not sure about creating a hardy article on your site for, then
the replies on your fan page will help you decide whether people want more in-depth
info on the stuff.
The Benefit: Itʼs like asking your audience what they like, then really hammering a good
article.
(5) Fifth, you will get better connected with other related blog owners (your hero
sites) become your friend and you can follow each other. Now, without bugging them
about any new content that they might want to share on their sites, these Fan Page
updates do it automatically without any trouble on your part.
The Benefit: Eventually these people might be seeking YOU out instead of knocking on
their doors.
(6) Sixth, As Iʼm going to instruct you to do in the promotion action plan, having
these accounts will allow you to follow your hero sites and publishers. This is how you
begin the art of networking. Eventually you will start curating (more on curation in the
course) and then possibly having these big authority hero sites also sharing that content
with their readers (again - more on that later as Iʼll be going into curation heavy in a
specific section).
(7) Last but not least, this is DIRECT TRAFFIC. Combining all of the benefits
above you will start to build up links and “shares” of your content over time, which is
another way to totally and completely by-pass worrying about Google updates and loss
of rankings due to search engine algorithm changes.
The Benefit: Itʼs a no brainer - Building links WITHOUT actually building links (and links
with traffic no less).
All the others (which Iʼll mention later) like Flickr, Digg, Linkedin, YouTube, Reddit, etc.
are completely and totally up to the individual publisher and where their niche audience
hangs out.
Twitter - I have to admit that I have not used this platform yet, but will be setting up an
account for my new sites as I will be for Facebook. Itʼs really a simple little tool that
enables you to send out brief little messages to your followers.
Itʼs not quite as beneficial as Facebook, but every little bit counts, right?
My Advice:
3) And Google+ should be something to get into when you have the time and the efforts
to keep up with it (like I said, itʼs new but the platform will be growing over time).
Setting up your Facebook page is very easy but there are a few items you should be
aware of before completing the account.
Fortunately for you and I, clear instructions have already been laid out by many helpful
marketers, so simply go here and follow the 4-minute video:
Like your Facebook page, Twitter is very easy to do and the platform has an entire page
laid out for simple instructions:
Google provides all of the steps to getting started with Google+ (as you can see in the
following link).
Note: No problem at all if you would like to wait on this - you can always set your page
up later. And if you are not setting a page up now then just ignore the assignments on
the action plan steps until you do.
Getting action going on your Facebook page should be fun and easy-going. Here is
what you can start doing today:
What you want to do right away is just start making posts about yourself, what your
site is about, and some stuff you like, etc.
Also, start helping others out (your heros) so that they can eventually follow your
page too.
Try to make about 6-10 posts per day, every day, but do so in a non-forced manner
(more detailed daily suggestion steps coming later).
Really get into it, have fun! Share cool things! Start building up those followers.
Remember, getting hundreds and hopefully THOUSANDS of fans means INSTANT
TRAFFIC when you publish a great article on your own site.
(1) Be sure to add a good bio: Need help? Just check out some of your hero Fan
Pages!
(2) Be sure to upload a good photo: Need help? Yep - your heros can assist you
there as well!
(3) Try to go ahead and follow as many hero sites and publishers in your niche
possible. I suggest to reach as many as you can in the action plan, but a few for now is
fine.
Step 4: Let’s Get Educated - Study The KS Videos & Meet Me On Cam
Step 5: Reminder (Don’t Forget To Install The Free KS Internal Linking Plug-In)
If you trust my judgement and want to run a management program that is owned and
operated by another 6-figure publisher then this choice will be a good investment on
your part.
Important: You get a free 30 day trial (no restrictions, no credit card) and then if you like
the program after the 30 days there is a lifetime 10% discount (youʼll be directed to my
discounts page for this over at www.adsensemasterscourse.com/discounts.html)
The truth is that we are literally drowning by all of the suggested tools, software
programs and courses that come into our email boxes every day. Many are wonderful
tools, others are hype, and most we just plain donʼt need.
So please keep in mind that all tools and services that I suggest in this blueprint are
either 100% totally optional, or can be replaced with something cheaper or even free
Iʼm not saying that the alternative and free versions are all equal to my preferred
business tools - Iʼm just suggesting that you do your own due diligence before making
any buying decision.
Of course Fraser has a ton of great tips, videos and answers to your questions at the
main site, but for now take a quick read below and see if this is something that you
might feel is a good match for your personal tracking and management for the various
components of running a publishing business:
Every keyword you have inside the program will be tracked on how well you are ranking
in Google. You could have 100,000 keywords or more and still get exact rankings. You
will also see a graph to show whether the keyword has gone up or down.
Keyword Strategy provides a secure plug-in that automatically links certain keywords
within your articles and links them to other related articles on your site. This alone,
according to Fraser, is enough to actually help those pages move up in rank.
One of the biggest mistakes publishers make (even myself) is not digging through stats
in webmaster tools and analytics to grab the keywords that people are finding a site for.
These are typically keywords we did not optimize a page for yet and this program will
show you each day these new phrases while allowing you to import them automatically
into the system (you can then decide to build an article around them).
Keyword Strategy will show you every keyword you have and exactly how many people
have come to your content through that keyword. Again, you could have 100 keywords
or MILLIONS, and this data will still update automatically for you.
If you are smart then you will follow my lead on getting your content to get as much
social exposure as possible (within white-hat guidelines, that is). And for each article
you publish and get those “likes,” youʼll see through Keyword Strategy just how many
Google +1ʼs, Facebook likes and Twitter Tweets every page has.
There Are More Benefits, But This Should Be Enough To Get You Excited!
The above benefits are just the main highlights that excite me (even though there are
additional features). Just follow the steps below and youʼll be able to see Fraserʼs
videos and sign up for your free 30 day trial and the ongoing 10% discount.
(2) Once you click on the link at my discounts page you should be directed to set
up your account at the program page that looks like this:
(1) Once you get your discount trial and install the program, head on over to the
videos and watch ALL of them, taking notes along the way.
(2) Then read through as many articles by Fraser as you can so you can begin to
saturate your mind with is expert advice - Between his input and this blueprint youʼll
have no reason to fail!
I know that you are intelligent and diligent enough to have already watched the Keyword
Strategy videos as I instructed and have successfully installed the Internal Links Plug-in
for wordpress (provided by Fraser).
But if you missed it due to glossing over everything (bad habit by the way) then please
go back and watch the vids. The internal links plug-in video is currently #8 (and itʼs very
important that you get this installed.
It will leave internal linking practically hands-free so that you do not have to worry about
trying to find related pages within your wordpress admin and link specific keywords to
them (although I do suggest in the promotion plan to try to manually get a few links if
you desire super-targeted internal links right off the bat - more on that later).
And if choose not to use Keyword Strategy as your site management tool, then I do
suggest you research and try to find an internal linking option for whatever site-builder
you are using.

The Reason?
What makes it hard is when you are not in a niche with interest and passion, which then
forces you to look at keywords as nothing but a word with stats (a death-sentence with
the ever-changing Google search engine).
Your Instructions...
Only spend 1 day on this to begin with. You are only launching out with 3 topics
and those 3 topics will not even need a keyword.
Finding new and inspiring keywords is an ongoing process, so feel free to stop
even if you just find 1,000 terms or so. You can always just add them as you go along,
one of my favorite approaches.
The Steps...
(1) First, you are going to harvest a list of different keyword phrases and topic
ideas within your niche area from multiple angles and sources. Depending on your
angle, some of you might have a small list of keywords to start (200 - 500 or so), while
others may have 5,000 - 10,000 or more to start.
(2) You will then import all keywords collected into your site management tool
(Keyword Strategy) to populate the statistical data. (Remember to grab your free 30 day
trial and future 10% discount link on my discount page in the last phase).
(4) You will then import new and fresh ideas and keywords anytime thereafter. This
can come from more online research, some notes you jotted down while offline, or
simply ideas that have popped into your head that would be great to share with your
audience.
Because you are not “selecting” your keywords at this point for actual writing
purposes (but instead are gathering, collecting and importing for later use), I did
not place that guide in this particular phase.
The actual guide is part of an extensive “Master Content Lessons 1-6” series in Phase 9
of the blueprint.
I logically created a “course inside of a course,” so to speak, so that when you hit the
content action plan you will have 7 actual keyword action examples to use as guiding
lights.
(2) Scroll to “Phase 9, Master Content Lesson 6” (The Ultimate Keyword Selection
Guide).
(4) Come back here and continue with your keyword harvesting.
(5) You will then be better equipped mentally to harvest your phrases.
Another thing that I have to say here before moving on is that I canʼt possibly guess
what angle you are coming from within your niche before getting keywords so please
use your own mental outlook and niche audience measures to help.
Here, let me give you a perfect example of what I mean by not researching blindly and
knowing your audience... Next page please...
Pills, Anyone?
Publisher “B” may also be in the weight loss field but is more
interested in creating a weight loss supplement review website.
And because supplements cater to most everybody (male,
female, teens, etc.) then the angle here will be more broad.
Anything Goes!
Publisher “D” might want to create a highly-viral weight loss site
that shares interesting content from ALL angles - books, diet pills,
fat loss stories, “as soon on TV” products, etc. This publisher
would not worry so much about a specific angle when doing
keyword research.
I am not going to recommend any expensive keyword tools to buy in this course other
than this 1 very low-cost program that is extremely simple to use and grabs the right
kinds of ideas you need for creating those solution-based articles that people love....
Itʼs called “Keyword Researcher” and with all of the expensive programs out there that I
have bought and used over the years this one is a real gem!
It creates phrases that literally tells you from Google suggest what to write about.
Itʼs ideal for publishers who are out to get as much traffic and repeat visitors as
possible.
All of these tools have the ability to grab keywords for you
and yes - they all work as advertised.
Were they all a waste of money? Perhaps to some publishers they might have been, but
but on the other hand if I got just one little service that helped my business then it was
worth it (besides Krakken - that was a huge expenditure of money that I did not get
anything out of, but maybe itʼs because the program didnʼt match my simplistic
personality).
Many of you have these other tools and by all means use them if it is the most logical
and comfortable choice (I would use them in addition to Keyword Researcher if I were
you).
However, if you do not have these other programs and wish to avoid spending the
money then I think Keyword Researcher take you as far as you need to go.
(1) Yes of course use whatever tools you have and enjoy working with to get topic
and keyword ideas.
(2) Definitely get the discounted Keyword Researcher tool that I just mentioned
(itʼs awesome).
(3) As your work style shifts over time then invest into anything you feel would
suite your personality. But from experience, less is more - keep it simple!
So be on the look out for these keyword types (again, you should already fast-forwarded
The Ultimate Keyword Truth Guide and glanced over the keyword action plans):
There are quite a few ways of beginning this process. My absolute favorites are from
Magazines! I then will take these phrases over to the Google Keyword Tool to expand
on them, like so:
While just about everyone else is using the Google keyword tool or another similar tools
like Market Samurai to hunt for seed terms, magazines offer lateral ideas that these
other niche site builders arenʼt looking for.
Not that it matters in terms of competition, but itʼs cool to be spreading yourself out over
topics that have not been nailed to death yet by these SEO marketers.
Letʼs take the “Mommies” niche area for example, as I flip through and find topics:
With an actual copy of “Mothering” in front of me (I showed you this magazine on the
niche-brainstorming video), and going through each page, I came up with the following
seed phrases and how I write down notes for the origin and possible content uses.
• Work At Home Article for moms to earn extra money while raising
their children. So many possibilities. Could be itʼs own
niche area too (moms and home businesses).
• Prenatal (Vitamins) Topic was prenatal VITAMINS, but could use the term
“prenatal” to see other possibilities out there.
• Going Barefoot (TOXINS) Article was on teaching mothers the dangers of their
kids going barefoot outside. But quick thought of
“Toxins” came to my mind.
(By the way, for those that donʼt know, the term “digging”
simply means to dig further down and pull out a huge list of
related terms for a specific keyword)
You will have some big lists for every keyword so try to bulk them up and import them
into a file which will have only keywords (no stats), like so:
The above image is just an example screenshot of the leading terms. What you
need to do is ensure that you have an Adwords account set up so that you can grab all
800 phrases given to you, which is free to set up.
I would then go through the entire process again for my other terms, until I get tired
of hammering away.
You do not have to cover EVERYTHING, as I already mentioned. But you should
absolutely take some time to get a base of phrases to build upon to start with (maybe
1,000 or so).
Reminder - Donʼt forget that if you have not already done so, hit my discounts page and
get on the 30-day trial plus 10% discount: http://www.adsensemasterscourse.com/

And of course you may also use your own program or track keywords in an excel sheet
of sorts (too confusing for my tastes).
Quick Tip: Change The Import Filter Settings To “0” in Keyword Strategy
When you first create an account inside Keyword Strategy for your domain, the project
settings use the numbers 140 and 0.
Be sure to change them to 0 (zero) so that it does not exclude any phrases. Now in the
future you can change this setting but my personal opinion is that many long-tail
phrases that would get dropped for too low search numbers may STILL provide great
ideas for topics.
You may get different advice from Fraser himself, or other members of my private mastermind
forum but for now letʼs allow all terms to be brought up without a filter (you can always change
this back to the original settings at a later date)
To This...

This can only be done from having outstanding, awesome and compelling content on
your site (and hopefully continuing from this day forward).
Your goal is to make money in life, right? And money comes from visitors who like your
site, correct? Then why would anyone want to link to your site? Yep - Awesome content!
(3) And you want heroes (authority sites) to SEND YOU TRAFFIC & LINKS!
The key to any publishing business is to get noticed by people bigger than you.
Remember those heroes that I keep bringing up? Well you want them to see your
content and go: “Hey, Iʼd really like to share this guy or girlʼs article with my own
audience...” (Bingo - traffic, links & profit!)
When I was writing them over the years I did not have
an official term to describe the layout .
The Outline:
Iʼve put together 46 template angles that I came up with, plus a LIVE EXAMPLE of each
and every one of them. This should be enough visual education to keep your content
juices flowing FOREVER!
Now before you go into the 46 examples, please make a quick note about the outline
and a few tips (itʼs extremely simple). And donʼt forget to adjust each template as you
see fit for your own style (depending on which one you decide to go with).
All list post articles have basically the same outline. You particularly need to pay
attention to these 4 items which produce a simple list post formula:
(1) The Headline (snags your reader like a fish): Ensure that you have an easy-
to-read list post headline, one that grabs a personʼs attention...
(2) The 1st Paragraph (the hook which keeps reeling the fish in): Provide your
readers with a unique hook to get them to keep reading...
(4) The Call To Action (what you want the reader to do): Depending on your
articleʼs purpose, youʼll need to tell the reader what to do and how to do it (this is
described specifically in the blog post promotion plan later in the course).
(2) A list post just plain looks great due to the simplistic layout.
(3) They are insanely easy to read and understand (People Love That).
(4) List posts get passed around more, producing natural backlinks.
(5) They work for all niches & all audience types.
(10) And finally, they give you the potential to make you the most money!
Iʼll share with you my personal favorite template list, but first Iʼd like you to meet one of
my mentors, Seth Godin. His blog gets about 5 MILLION unique visitors per month.

In fact, writing for affiliate products or services can be just as fun as the list post
approach. Instead of those boring old review articles, try using the exact same article
approach that I already gave you and pick from any of the 46 angles.
(1) Use any list post template (or other outline you enjoy) to provide the benefits of
what you received from the product (or what another person experienced).
(2) The headline may or may not have the product mentioned (which will of course
vary based on your tastes).
(3) Avoid too many affiliate links in the article. Definitely have one at the end of the
article and maybe 1 or 2 more throughout the content (just 1 link in the opening
paragraph is fine too).
(4) If you have no personal experience with the product, no problem - Just round
up other peopleʼs experiences (IMPORTANT TIP).
(5) Be sure that your “call to action” is strong inside the article. You want them to
make a buying decision so donʼt hesitate to be bold about it (so long as you filled up the
content with benefits, solutions and experiences).
Be sure to provide 3 steps and attribute your lack of success in the past
with each step compared to what the book taught you to do differently that is
“reeling in the girls,” now, so to speak.
Of course, have the call-to-action inside the article as advised and most
definitely in your resource box.
And If you see sales coming in then consider removing your adsense ads
on that specific page so as not to lose money on clicks, as opposed to sales.
You could open up the article with the book title and how it was
responsible for making you 6-figures in 60 days.
Then you can add a list of further inspirations you got from the book (or
collect them from other sites).
As always, the call-to-action should be bold, yet not too pushy, something
like: “Here is the book that took me from broke to rich in such a short period of time.
In fact I read the entire thing in 2 days. Read about it here ______”
“Rule 1: Eat Chocolate Every Day - In the book my mom was instructed to enjoy dark
chocolate each and every day while still losing weight
“Rule 2: Donʼt Go To The Gym - Most people stay overweight because they are
intimidated to go to a public gym. Just by walking 20 minutes per day and without
lifting weights my mother was able to shed the fat faster than anytime in her life.
Although your call to action would be in the last paragraph, in a sense you
are making each “rule” in this type of scenario a call to action, but remember
not to flood your article with affiliate links - just one or two is ideal.
The opening paragraph would still contain a link to the book as a type of:
“By the way, I had no idea what I was doing until I skimmed through book called “XYZ
Potty Training For Kids”
I would probably link about 2-3 total potty training courses in the call to
action, so long as they are all from the same place (such as Amazon), and then
suggest your “Favorite Pick” (Optional, just one of many ideas).

Lesson 7: A Few More Great Ideas For Adding Curation To Your Business
Lesson 9: Check For Video Requests & Forum Discussions (Private Mastermind

Unfortunately for the non-focused publisher who has yet to decide in confidence what
they want to do for an online business, the Internet Marketing community has turned
curation into another “Big Secret” for you all.
They target newbies and you end up taking the fall, frustrated again and again and
again...
I personally discovered content curation in late 2010 after I released my 2nd book on
building standard Authority websites. During the following year (2011), I curated
hundreds of heath content to test items like duplicate content, my readersʼ interest in the
content, building up small email lists for promotion of the content, what people from my
site liked about the information, etc.
(1) First of all, content curation has been done for years. Iʼve been reading curated
articles myself in various interest-based websites since before I even became an online
publisher in 2005. So this was nothing new and in fact has created million dollar
websites.
While I was publishing for 5 years I never for one second realized that this was an
amazing way to pull up content and reach a target audience (and was right in front of
my face the entire time!).
(2) The second thing I learned was that content curation needed to actually
provide value to the degree of what the people from a niche wanted, NOT what the
Internet Marketing community is currently trying to teach you through selling automation
tools and turning curation into spamming or auto-blogging revisited.
Content curation is simply just content “sharing” in the sense that you manually select
articles, videos, pictures and anything else that your niche audience might like.
Content curation comes from people that actually care about their niche audience and
want to take the time to filter through hundreds and thousands of aggregated content
sources, select the most highest of quality stories, links, pictures or videos on a specific
theme, and then deliver to their niche audience.
(2) The Content Types Include Links, Quotes, Pictures, Images, Anything...
This content can be as simple as a list of links that your audience can utilize, or a cool
picture that you found interesting. It can also be as in-depth as stringing together
multiple articles, quoting the highlights of those articles, and then adding your own
contributions.
While some curated content (like a list of links or an image) are just fine and are
considered “curation,” you can increase the value of the material by adding your own
opinions, insights, additions, etc.) For an SEO boost you may want to consider changing
(4) Curated Content Can Be Delivered With Full 100% Recognition & Links
The content is delivered with full do-follow links back to all sources used. The first place
to post your curated content is typically your blog/site. Other areas can be utilized to
spread the word like Facebook, Twitter, Forums and other social 2.0 services (optional).
• Curation allows you to stop stressing over trying to create the “best content” by simply
finding what already exists out there and sharing that content with your audience.
• Your site becomes an authority within your audience because it shows that you
actually care about the market, your people, and providing the best service possible as
a publisher.
• By linking out to other experts in your niche area to curate from, you make friends
(heroes) which in turn can help you obtain natural links and incoming traffic from
networking (more on that in the promotion plan).
• Curation is fun! There is so much information and expert material out there that you
can spend all of your time looking for cool stuff to talk about on your site.
• Properly curated blogs become extremely valuable. You link out heavily which shows
that you actually care about your niche audience, which over time results in more
visitors, readership and profit.

...the choice to give up on ALL of those money-making schemes, loopholes and short-
term gimmicks and know in my heart that I have to go into the “I Love Food” niche.
Here, let’s sneak in on that conversation that would take place in my head...
“Simple Recipes”
(2 Million Visitors Monthly & Ran By 1 Person)
www.simplyrecipes.com
(1) Elise Bauer runs the website (read above please) and personally tests every
recipe that is curated on the site.
(2) She collects these recipes, tests them out, then credits the actual creator of the
recipes so long as they are considered worthy enough to be shared with her audience.
(3) And most important, Elise adds value by adding her own thoughts on changes
she might add to the cooking. She goes the distance by making each dish personally
before sharing.
The steps to curating content is a totally individual style amongst publishers but the
overall process remains somewhat the same. So here is an easy-to-understand
summary of going from a niche to having a curated piece of content on your blog or site.
For 100% curation sites it is typically best to have a very targeted market but that is not
a rule set in stone. We can discuss all types of brainstorm ideas inside my private forum
or you may email me if an idea pops into your head for your own niche business.
Second you need to build up a list of high quality hero sites that you feel provides extra-
ordinary value to your particular audience. As Iʼve eluded to in the past, what is
“valuable” in one niche may be completely irrelevant to another.
It totally depends on who you are writing for. For example, some people might think that
just curating an image with a 2 sentence description is cheap and spammy, yet what if
• Are built solely for Adsense (bad content, keyword stuffed, etc.).
• Hold little value (personal blogs and sites that are just talking, no information, no
essence).
You canʼt manually go through each blog and site daily just to skim the headlines, so by
having an RSS feed for each of these sites it makes it easier to scan the headlines to
see what may appeal to you.
Therefore you might want to subscribe to an RSS feed for every content source in which
you deem valuable enough to curate content from periodically. If no feed exists then you
must create one using feeddude or something similar.
The most common approach is to organize all feeds using one location like Google
Reader. Mac users like myself may prefer a different program. Basically you want to
have one single feed that pumps the content to your organization inbox for easy
skimming.
Step 5: Always Be On Hunt For New Sources & Feeds (It Never Ends)
Building up your curation sources is an ongoing process. Always stay alert and take
notes of newly discovered sources of fantastic information so that your sources will
remain fresh and on-the-go. In addition to “Google Alerts,” consider offline sources too,
such as TV commercials, magazines, books and even local businesses.
As Iʼve mentioned in step 2, what is “Cool” for one niche audience may not be so cool
for another, so there is no right or wrong way to select what content you want to curate.
My rule of thumb is to always try to grab the best stuff you can - the most helpful items
and stories that you can use for added value.
Never just curate something without ensuring that the creator is indeed the original
publisher of whatever content you are considering to share with your niche audience.
Simply follow the links, check out the content and be sure itʼs an original from that
specific site. Sometimes you may be trying to curate something thatʼs already been
curated (while falsifying the actual source by accident).
Step 8: Add Value by Writing An Intro, Adding Comments, Change The Title,
Sprinkle In Keywords, Etc.
• Sometimes you can create a very cool intro to the content, adding your own stuff. This
is typically a wise choice because next to the headline/title, the intro is the 2nd form of
“grabbing” a reader and sucking them in.
• Commenting within the article, spinning whatʼs already been said, or adding your own
insights/changes/opinions is another way to engage the audience and add value.
• Titles are typically poor (even from the best sources), so consider adding a cool title
that is grabbing, simple and fun (like the list post examples and the headline resource
file I provide later on).
• Keywords can be inserted for an SEO vitamin boost. Long-tails are great for adding
into curated content. You could even try to sprinkle some inside the commented content
as well. Remember that we are not after direct rankings, but they WILL come and this is
a great way to catch thousands of long-tail searches and readers over time.
Donʼt be selfish with crediting the source. Keep in mind that you just might get the
attention of the source of these great pieces of content, become friends with them, and
be invited to guest post on their sites (or they may in turn curate YOUR stuff when you
write self-written content).
• Insert a live link at the end of the article (or anywhere else you wish).
• Link to the site and/or the actual article that you curated.
• Do-Follow links (shows trust to not only the search engines, but more importantly to
the source.
Having said that, I need to address 3 trouble areas that Iʼve seen newbie publishers get
into when they have been sold “curation products” from the market:
Curation is not auto-posting or scraping content just for the sake of adding pages to
your sites. There MUST be value that comes along with the information.
I understand that you need to automatically aggregate content sources, but there is no
such thing as a robot curator. Content curation is done by a human being that
appropriately constructs a post that provides value, insights and accomplishes a
connection with the audience.
For example, if I were in the “computer niche” and wanted to create a list of what I
believe are the top 10 links of PC blogs that my audience will enjoy, how can I expect a
computer to do that for me?
You cannot just post content on your site without giving full credit. Iʼve seen a lot of
people try their very best to hide links back to the sources of material that were curated
for the selfish reason of not wanting to link out.
This is not only self-defeating (as you WANT these sources to see how much karma
you are giving them), itʼs also morally wrong and may cause your site to be shut down.
(3) You Must Have An Interest Or Passion (How Can You Curate Otherwise?)
Content curation is not a free pass to get involved in a niche just for profit and without
any personal interest in the topics. Iʼve seen this approach too but like shooting yourself
in the foot!
If the purpose of content curation is to bring the very best and most interesting content
to a group of people who love your site, then how can you decide whatʼs golden out
there if you have no interest or knowledge enough to choose?
Letʼs take a football fan site for example. If I know nothing about football but decide to
create a football fan site without any interest, passion or knowledge, then Iʼll fail as a
curator, plain and simple.
Now letʼs head on over and check out 8 items that are the most commonly curated
pieces and a live example of each for maximum visual learning:
(5) Curate Images & Photos That Your Audience Would Appreciate:
The experts are already out there and theyʼll LOVE seeing
their content curated on your site. All you need is the passion
about sharing this great stuff with other people that read your
material.
So round up expert pieces of advice each week from the known-leaders in your niche
area and curate/comment/share. Just be sure to add value and some SEO vitamins as
discussed earlier.
Iʼm not a big flow-chart guy myself but if the niche was right
and the information would be appreciated by viewers then
by all means - curate those items!
Your Herosʼ Websites (Their Sites, Blogs, Forums & Social accounts)
As you will read in my blog post action plan, curating big sites
may be the best “link-building” tactic youʼll find (more on that
later). It just may come back to you ten-fold when you least expect it.
It could be losing fat, feeling prettier, gaining muscle, improving a 2nd language, etc.
Every niche area has a story of someone doing a lot with it, so find and post those
stories!
Iʼll keep them brief and go through the ones that I feel are important.
I would say that you can stick with just using RSS feeds and Google reader (or for mac)
to start. The majority of the tools out there are designed to help you collect information
from around the web.
Storify, Scoop-ut, Bundlr and Zootool are just a few. There are actually a couple of
hundred to list if I really wanted to compile the source.
Because they are so highly individualized (what one publisher prefers to use may not be
suited to another publisher), I would just just play around with these items in your spare
time.
For now letʼs just keep it simple: Donʼt get involved with any of these tools and slowly
build up and curate manually what fits you. If curation becomes an addiction then you
can start researching other avenues to help.
There is no concrete answer for this because I have no idea what niche area you are
involved in or whether you want to curate small items, or go out and pull huge sources
of information for larger documents. I also do not know what excites you!
In the blog post action plan youʼll read about my suggestion for creating super awesome
content that would be considered “Ultimate Guides” or “How To Guides,” etc. But if you
are just getting started then you can slowly work your way up. You may grow to curating
stuff each day if you like, but donʼt stress about quantity immediately.
Yes without a doubt you can curate each and every piece of content that gets published
on your site. However, I do suggest that you start out with the plan Iʼve already given
you regarding your starting launch articles (that is coming up in Part 3, Phase 10 of the
course)
The one problem with 100% curation is that itʼs difficult to get that SEO and rankings
boost from nothing but curated articles (at least in the beginning). Regardless of what
the search engines are doing, original content tends to get ranked better for a variety of
long-tail keyword phrases found by the search engine spiders.
But it CAN be done! My friend and mentor, Peter Spaepen does nothing but curation in
many niches and earns well over 5-figures in Adsense on a daily basis (Iʼve quoted him
in the blog post action plan. Heʼs a huge fan of SYNND - more on that later as well).
Just know that for new sites who want to go the 100% curation route, you will probably
have to buy traffic, and I know that you are probably wanting to avoid doing this from the
start (and I agree).
(3) Isnʼt this duplicate content? And doesnʼt that hurt rankings?
Yes it is duplicate content if you are automating the process of just puling text and
posting it to your website. However, if you are truly curating and taking my advice on
adding your own insights, commentary and/or “spin” then it becomes valuable.
Itʼs about value, plain and simple. If your curated stuff is valuable and you build up an
audience due to creating a site of authority and credibility, then there is little worry about
the search engines at all. In fact, you eventually want to become Google proof by
building up your audience (which happens naturally over time).
Iʼve already answered this in the beginning of my lessons. So instead of giving you a
repeat answer, please ask yourself a question: How will you be able to locate, share
and provide the best and coolest stuff that your niche area might like if you are not
familiar or have no interest in the topics?
(5) How do I credit the source? Do we need to include a byline of the author?
What about the date? How many links should I use?
You can use a minimum of one single link or you can include everything possible (his or
her name, multiple links, the siteʼs name, their picture, etc.).
There is no rule that suggests how many links to use or where to place those links when
crediting a source. Just be open and honest. Donʼt be afraid to send people to these
hero sites. In fact be excited. Consider every outgoing link an investment.
Trust me, youʼll be happy to get a bump in traffic when some of these sites start to
notice you linking to them and then want to link back or possibly share one of your own
articles with their readers.
I say go with DO-follow. It shows that you do trust the source and it the end itʼs all about
networking, not the search engines, so donʼt be selfish!
You get long-tail traffic and clicks from curation by simply having as much original
content as possible that can be picked up and indexed by the search engines. Here are
a few SEO tips that Iʼve already mentioned:
• Change the title and add a long-tail keyword to it for maximum SEO benefit.
Iʼve actually moved into the direction of less keyword-focused content because it makes
for better, more valuable stuff to create. Itʼs also easier to have fun with writing.
I would suggest that you not worry so much about adding a chunk of keyword phrases if
it does not flow well. And if you do, consider using Web Content Studio.
Iʼll share with you a quick video coming up on the benefit of this tool for ranking
thousands of long-tail phrases (and yes, after trying for a year I finally arranged a
discount for you on this software over at my discount page).

“Content Potential”
(You’ll see why by the end of this guide)
Too many of you are following the wrong crowd, doing what everyone else has done,
and have completely ignored the art of building up a real publishing asset and offering
value to people that will become loyal and spread your site around (does the term “no
backlinking” sound good to you? One day it will happen!)
Doing things the old way in terms of keyword selection will only serve to destroy your
motivation, confuse your mental approach, and above all, provide little-to-no results in
the way of getting traffic to your articles.
I want you to open your eyes to writing for an audience, and NOT worrying
about whether you rank high for specific keywords (the indirect long-tail traffic is
where itʼs at for those of you who excited for the search engines to send you
hits).
I want you to start experiencing 100 times more success with traffic,
earnings and subscribers by ignoring the old keyword advice and listening to
what I am about to say in this guide.
So I bring you my most honest, simplest and direct crash course on keyword
selection and how “content potential” is the key ingredient when browsing your
keyword ideas - NO MATTER WHAT THE SEARCH ENGINES ARE DOING!
“What keywords are the best to use for social buzz articles?”
Which leads me to the #1 reason why selecting topics based on keyword metrics
and numbers destroys hopes and dreams and causes people to fail with content
publishing (long before they even begin):
(1) Those of you that are dong things right and starting a blog about a niche area
that you care about will have a greater insight as to the best keywords and topics to
select.
(2) Keyword and topic choices will be extremely burdensome if you have chosen a
niche due to profitability alone (or any other reason besides personal interest).
(3) If you have indeed chosen to become a content publisher in a niche area
where you have no interest and a total lack of connection with the audience involved,
please reconsider your choice and go back to brainstorming a better niche.
Just imagine how much better you would be at keywords, topics and social angles if you
had inside knowledge:
Knowledge about the niche area & what angles are best to discuss.
Knowledge about what products work and which ones are best for your fans.
Knowledge about what solutions your people like, want and should have.
• With little interest or understanding of what you are writing about, no matter what
keywords you have built up, there will always be confusion over which topics to choose.
• Regardless of how much money is supposed to be in a niche, you will fall short due to
having no connection to your audience.
• And last but not least (something you can probably relate to as well), picking keywords
and writing about them will lead to boredom, frustration and anger over time.
Of course there many businesses that can be started with little interest in the actual
products and services, but this isnʼt just ANY business. This is content publishing. And
in order to make it big in content publishing you have to literally saturate yourself in the
material.
Let's say that you are head over heals in love with
scrapbooking. Youʼve been doing it for years but just never
thought that messing around with yarn and paper could ever make
you a living online.
Then you buy a course that shares with you a huge list of high paying Adsense
keywords. It looks EXCITING!!! How can you resist? The term “Drug Rehab” is showing
$20 clicks!!! The term “California Refinance” is showing $19.00 clicks!!! The term “Debt
Consolidation” is showing around $12.00 per click!!! And so on...
So you sit down to reconsider your scrapbooking site as your mind starts to
fantasize about those amazing full-time paydays from the “profitable niches” that a
bunch of marketers suggested. Oh, and there those offers of “instant traffic” that you
can buy. So you think: “Instant traffic + high paying keywords... How can I lose?”
So after looking at how awesome the keywords are supposed to be for “Debt
Consolidation”, you decide to ditch your passion so that you can dive into the debt niche
(I mean, who wants those low .5 cent clicks anyways, right???).
Article after article, you write and research a bunch of keyword terms. But they all
look the same!!! You outsource as much as you can to that special $5.00 writer,
dreading each day that you have to sit down and edit those articles for your website.
Every night you come home from your day job and spend a couple of hours
numbing your mind with finance and debt articles (which are not getting any traction at
all by the way). Before bed you settle in and continue with that new scrapbooking
project youʼve been working on with your children. That makes you happy, makes you
smile, itʼs your passion...
Eventually you decide to quit your “Debt Consolidation” site, still not realizing that
those .5 cent clicks could actually become a $60,000/year website if you dug into it and
opened up to other ways to monetize your passion.
You realize in the end that the best keywords and topics (AND SUCCESS) would
have come from “scrapbooking” and that you would probably be making good money by
now had you chose your passion.
Focus On What Your Audience Wants First & Rankings Will Follow
You should already be aware by now that making it big with a publishing site has
everything to do with creating likeable content that your people want.
I never tried to rank #1 for keywords when building up my large health website. And Iʼm
very glad that I didnʼt because when those Google updates happened between 2011
and 2012 (panda, penguin, etc.) and destroyed many publishersʼ income, mine only
took deep dives for major ranking keywords that I didnʼt even fight for.
(This backed up everything approach towards long-tail rankings that I and marketers
like Andy Williams have been preaching for years on your authority sites).
In the blog post action plan, you will be focusing your content almost exclusively on your
audience. This will make working to be so much more enjoyable as you gain traffic,
subscribers, clicks and income, all without losing sleep at night worrying about getting
dropped for a high ranking keyword that you spent months striving for.
To write for people first and then consider long-tail SEO last takes a little experimenting.
And in the end you may just want to avoid keywords altogether (once you reach a
specific goal limit).
But I do suggest that you try to optimize for as many “low competition” keywords as
possible, because the fact of the matter is that it is still the best way to get that search
engine traffic before you start building up your audience and fans.
So while itʼs all about “likeability” in your content, I am going to show you how you can
still get thousands of long-tail search visitors WHILE YOU ARE BUILDING UP YOUR
READERSHIP.
Itʼs very simple actually, and will be explained in the keyword action plans and also in a
great video from Andy Williams (creator of Web Content Studio) - but more on this stuff
later.
Donʼt Fight For Keyword Rankings UNTIL You Have The Data (Or Just Skip)
As you follow this course and start publishing great content, promoting yourself, building
up an audience of people that love and share your articles (all the while seeing your
long-tail long-tail search engine traffic coming in), I want you to do one specific thing for
me:
That being said, there is a time and place to decide that you want to put your energy on
influencing a group of phrases, but this should NEVER be done without having incoming
statistics to show that the effort will be worth it.
And this is where Keyword Strategy Site Management Tool will really come into play -
after you start seeing your traffic build up.
In other words, your visitor analytics will show you what phrases are causing you to get
Google visitors and which ones arenʼt. Once you gain the insights on a similar group of
keywords that are coming in on a regular basis, then ***BOOOM*** you can now start
focusing on new content around those phrases to gain lots of high rankings in time.
(I would still personally not choose to fight for ANY rankings, but thatʼs my preference
based on my experience and success when writing for people, not search engines).
I did not recommend the use of my favorite site management tool (Keyword Strategy)
and Web Content studio for nothing (More on Web Content Studio Later).
Keyword Strategy helps me track and utilize all of the information coming into my site to
expand and grow in directions I may not have thought of on my own.
And Web Content Studio provides me with the absolute best SEO boost from what the
every possible theme phrases that is LSI related (itʼs also a great tool for additional
content ideas too and for those struggling to write articles).
So as far as trying to rank #1 for keywords, your best phrases to target for this (should
you decide to) will actually come in AFTER you start getting traffic. This data that
Keyword Strategy provides will help you focus better once you build up a steady flow of
traffic. Then the gold can be discovered by adding Web Content Studio to the mix.
Note: Although I brought up Web Content Studio a little pre-mature (as I have an
important video to share with you soon), please do not run out and purchase the
software yet because you can save $17 from my special discounts page).
We've hit a new age as far as Google and the search engines are concerned, and I
couldn't be happier. These changes include:
Not being able to build links for a keyword phrase without being penalized.
And not being able to RELY on top rankings without getting dropped (but this has
always been the case).
I started creating this course long before the earth-shattering “Penguin Update” hit,
which basically goes after any and all sites that are purposefully trying to optimize their
pages for specific keywords (amongst many other items that we've all been taught to do
in terms of SEO).
I was noticing on my health pages that my absolute best and most popular articles were
the ones that I did not follow most of the traditional keyword/optimization/ranking
approach that so many of us are taught to do (even going against my own advice in the
past).
In fact, my health site's best profits after all of Googleʼs destruction were coming from
content that I wrote in very hot topics that just got people socially involved, passing
them on hundreds of blogs, hundreds of forums, and all over Facebook and Twitter.
Those are just a few of my best money-making articles on my health site which are
getting tons of daily traffic and earnings that are not affected by Google's update
changes.
Yes I get lots of long-tail hits and traffic from the search engines but the majority of the
success comes from people sharing direct links to these pages due to the socially-
engaging subjects (controversy).
So one day I got a huge spike in traffic on my anti-vaccinations page. Upon looking
where they came from it was from a forum post on a health board where the subject line
went something like this:
He did not like my stand on vaccinations and started an entire 14-page thread on my
article. Everyone jumped in on the debate and tore each other to shreds before it was
closed down by the moderator.
BUT...
In the long run your best earnings may not even come from choosing keywords
based on CPC, search volume, adsense ads or any other metric (yes they can help, but
more on that later).
The main problem is that too many people give their articles absolutely no
likeability and no value because they cannot figure out how to write without building the
words around a keyword phrase (which is like building a wall instead of actually
writing...)
People generally pick keywords solely with the angle to rank for them based on
numbers. This leads to crappy SEO articles built around keywords that will get
absolutely no social traction and in turn very little (if any) rankings.
It's awful spending time with crappy link-building methods and trying to rank for
socially boring and overly optimized SEO articles, so STOP doing it. Get the ball rolling
to an audience with the good stuff and you will see more traffic coming in naturally over
time than you ever dreamed.
Does this all sound exciting? It should. It should also make you think for a second:
"Wow, maybe if I wrote less content and focused on the absolute coolest and most
interesting content possible that will get people talking, sharing, Facebooking, Tweeting
and blogging about... Then maybe I can earn 100 times more than writing a bunch of
SEO articles without any interest, likeability or real-life solutions."
Now itʼs time to give you some brief quotes about keyword and topic selection which
mimic my own thoughts on the subject just about 100% of the time (and from different
angles).
These quotes are from professional publishers who are living the “content creation”
dream and doing so with total peace and happiness in their work.
Do yourself a favor and sign up to these individualʼs lists. Start learning from the same
people that I do. Get off of the “Internet Marketing” merry-go-round and listen to men
and women that can help you change your content publishing success forever.
"I get 100,000 visitors from the search engines every single day to my website,
so I definitely have a good view of the massive organic search data firehose
coming into my website.
“Although you think youʼve found a secret advantage in a keywords, there are
just too many variables to know, in advance, if your keywords is going to do well
– if theyʼre easy to rank for.
“When you hear success stories, remember to think rationally. Youʼre probably
hearing stories from lucky people. For an extreme example, think about winning
the lottery. Lottery winners believe itʼs extremely easy to win a jackpot. But go
ahead and ask the millions of people who donʼt win each week. This is known as
confirmation bias.
“Now, I know there are hundreds of people and tools out there who will tell you
otherwise. Theyʼll say that you can use some secret algorithm, or hidden insider
trick. But at best, theyʼre misinformed, and at worst… lying to you.
“What Iʼm Saying is, Ignore the Competition. This is going to be the toughest part
for you to read.
“When you put together all the variables, like search engine algorithm changes,
competition, personalization and more, itʼs just not possible to stay on top of it all.
“After all that negative talk, thereʼs a silver lining. Thereʼs a foolproof method for
picking keywords: target them all.”
“So ignore the competition, itʼs just a distraction. Focus on your own site. Cast a
wide net, targeting every keyword in your niche. And dig into your own stats to
discover which keywords are really working.”
- Fraser Cain
"We hardly ever hear about content potential - how much content you could
actually create in a particular niche.
“High search volume, low competition, but a narrow scope of content means less
findability. And content potential in a particular niche comes on two levels:
“This is why you see some sites that are ranking #1 for high volume keywords
that are just doing okay, and why some sites that arenʼt even close to #1 are
just totally killing it.
“Strictly from an organic search point of view, long tail keywords are where the
traffic is at, and that is directly proportional to the nicheʼs content potential."
- Patt Flynn
"Given the apparently infinite range of keywords searchers use, itʼs often at
keyword research that bloggers get overwhelmed, throw up their hands, and give
in.
“If youʼre prepared to put in the time and energy to ride the cresting wave of a
new fad or trend—and take the hit when that wave breaks, or a new trend
catches everyoneʼs attention—thatʼs fine.
“But if youʼre simply out to build a strong, lasting brand as an authority in a less
time-sensitive niche, look for keywords with:
“1) Longevity
“3) Not too much strong competition from others in your space.”
Also... Darren touches up on getting the best keywords from your stats:
"While every industry changes and your niche will inevitably evolve, the secret to
ranking well in search is, as I mentioned, authority. Authority isnʼt just about peer
and reader respect.
“The search engines, of course, also look at the amount of quality content you
have around particular keywords.
“They prefer to see that that content has been built up over time.
“The upshot is that you need to be able to commit to some basic niche- and
reader-relevant keywords that you can weave through your content, as well as
other digital assets like navigation labels, link text, image captions and meta
data.
“Use your analytics and the Google Keyword Tool to find the keywords people
are using to discover the kind of information you want to cover, and that theyʼre
currently using to get to your site. Choose three or four keywords you want to
rank well for and can commit to, and go from there.
- Darren Rowse
“Outrage is the specific high-arousal emotion that I believe can generate the
most traffic and support for you and your business.
“And the ʻlittle something elseʼ is the key behind what makes this formula work
like a charm (CONTROVERSY).”
- Derek Halpern
"I always lean more towards the needs of The People vs. my passion for The
Thing: What problems do they face?
“What is not being said on this subject on other news sources or blogs?
“Who can I put them in contact with (via links or references) that will give them
good information and advice?
- Pam Slim
Get involved in a niche that you love and choosing the best keywords for your
audience will be 2nd nature.
Ignore the desire to go after a niche for money. It will be extremely hard to get the
keywords & topics right.
Pick a low competition phase for each article you write, but write the article first
and then add the keyword later (Iʼll share this will you in the keyword action plans).
Do not fight for #1 rankings on specific keywords. You will experience the pains of
ups and downs and ultimately get penalized for purposefully trying to optimize your
way to the top (Penguin).
If you you want to focus on high volume keyword rankings then wait until you have
the data coming in from your analytics & Keyword Strategy to help you create new
pages on those hot searches coming into your site.
Write for your audience and your pages will eventually rank themselves for long-
tail phrases within your articles.
Your most profitable and traffic-grabbing articles will come from content you
write almost exclusively for your audience.
Controversy, solutions & inspiration are the very best forms of keyword-inspired
topics. Use them.
Fraser Cain says that after building up 100,000 visitors per day to his site and
being behind the scenes in creating Keyword Strategy (his site management tool), that
everyone out there is lying to you when they say that keywords and stats can be
trusted. There are too many variables at play and you are being influenced by false
information made to appear as facts. The key, according to Fraser, is to target all
relevant keywords and write for your fans. The rest will take care of itself.
Pat Flynn suggest that when looking at your keywords, always choose the ones
that have great content potential as your #1 selection method. He also suggests not to
fight for the #1 spot because more rankings and profits will come from your long-tail
rankings. Pat has experienced lots of #1 rankings and his most recent analysis is that
the long-tail rules!
Darren Rowse says to pick keywords that inspire you with the ability to create
content around those keywords and for the long-term. Heʼs been helping bloggers for
years and it's at keyword research where they ultimately give up. Darren also suggests
to avoid trends, fads and waves - unless you are prepared to sink when those trends die
down. Select keywords based on longevity (content potential).
Derek Halpern says that the best topics to get the most traffic, or "Massive Traffic"
as he puts it, is to pick phrases the help you to create outrage and controversy.
Pat Slim says that when considering what topics to choose, go with keywords that
can inspire you to help the people in your niche. Ask yourself how that keyword can
make a readerʼs life easier. Will that phrase help you write on a topic that builds
confidence, provides resources to great advice, and is fun and interesting to your
people?
Now Iʼd like to share some practical advice and list the 6 general keyword types that you
can consider, while following up on how to use them in lessons 7-13 (where you will see
a sample action plan for each and how to use it in general terms).
Just keep in mind that you can have the easiest keywords to rank
for but never get them at the top without having social signals,
actual visitors coming in, or any other measures to make Google go
“Ok, yeah this article really SHOULD be at the top of the list.”
Lastly...
Now that I got that stuff out of the way, here ya go...
• The goal would be to choose a keyword phrase that can reach the top listings in the shortest
time possible, based on several variables while mixing a perfect combination of numbers, article
awesomeness, and regular social signals/promotion (more on this in Part 3 of the course).
• You would find these phrases by following my KEYWORD HARVESTING tips in Phase 8, letting
the data populate, then sifting through the data using the search features.
• A product-based or service-based phrase is best for higher clicks and affiliate income (see
Lesson 14 in this section for the best Adsense phrases). But this is NOT ALWAYS THE CASE.
You may want to sell something, like a recipe book, or get subscribers, etc. In other words, donʼt
let good keywords miss the boat just because they are NOT product-based.
• The term should be from the “Exact” setting in the Google keyword tool (Keyword Strategy
already sets this to exact match if you are using it as I have suggested).
• For maximum Adsense and affiliate revenue, you want as many advertisers as possible, no less
than 6 (10 or more is better). To check this, simply Google the keyword phrase or use Spyfu.com.
• The phrase should be a long-tail version of a high-volume keyword and at least 3 phrases in
length, even up to 5 or more (although 3-4 are the most common). Even 2 phrases MIGHT work
depending on the niche, but most are too competitive if you are worrying about ranking.
• You want a minimum of at least 2,000 monthly searches but again, you may go lower if you like.
Obviously the higher the better.
• Manually check the “allintitle:keyword phrase” in Google. Look for a number below 12,000 -
20,000 if possible. While this number is not always set in stone, higher numbers show that there
are more SEO-savvy people trying to optimize and rank for that keyword.
• Now check the top 5 listings. This is where you have to go by feel. I typically like to see at least
1 new site or a site with lack of good content or age here. You may see tough sites in the top 5
like wiki or about.com, etc., but if there is at least 1 “so-so” site in the mix then that is a potentially
good sign of easy rankings. Again - there is no scientific way to determine the competition and
listings because we canʼt. It is impossible and will always remain impossible, so you must go by
intuition and experience.
• I would then use Web Content Studio to extract the top 10 results and the long-tail phrases to
use in my article (more on WCS in the next phase).
• Now decide how you want to direct traffic if you had the top listing and craft your absolute best
article for the job, using this course to help (list post, great headlines, on-page minimum, affiliate
article, images, long-tail phrases from WCS, etc.)
• Make the best content possible, as I have been saying. Chasing rankings does not mean
skimping out on the socially engaging and likeable content approach. Without getting people to
come to your site you will not gain the indirect strength of slowly crawling rankings.
• And finally, you will follow the social signals advice and site promotion material outlined in Part 3
of the course as it best suites you.
• This is any keyword that is typically “at the top” of a keyword list due to the highest-searched-for-
phrases which are listed from the most to the least, and using any keyword tool.
• All high volume keywords would be turned into a long-tail phrase to help nudge rankings for that
keyword over the long term.
• Virtually unlimited topics could be created from these phrases. Curation would be considered
and most likely an big guide, or how-to article put together.
• As an option, Web Content Studio would be implemented to help grab all of the theme phrases
that the top 10 Google listings are using (for long-tail & topic ideas).
• These are ideal single and double-word terms to plug into the long-tail Keyword Researcher for
more socially engaging questions people might want to know about.
• An example would be “Video Editing Software” which gets 135,000 searches according to
Googleʼs keyword tool.
• I would then look at all related terms with this exact phrase in it to get inspired (on blogs, hero
sites, forums and social areas to see what it most wanted).
• Next I would formulate my article based on my specific angle of information and would add a
long-tail keyword into the title for minimum optimization (possibly more phrases depending on my
article, something like: “Best Free Video Editing Software: 10 Free Downloads For Mac &
Windows”
• The above title has the main keyword in it, a long-tail version, plus the terms “free download,”
“Windows” and “Mac”
• Most importantly, it makes sense to humans and the content would have to provide the best
possible free downloads - no lying in the article and really following through with great help and
information (in other words, to actually make this article something that people would pass around
as a “go-to” source).
“No-Searched-For” Keywords
• These are long-tail phrases and/or question phrases (plus others) that may show very little
search volume (or ZERO) with the Google keyword tool (or any keyword tool for that matter).
• They may still be an asset and could potentially bring in more traffic than you could imagine
based on social interest, content potential, and solution angles.
• You would turn the phrase into something that has higher value, both in searches and social
value.
• An example would be the phrase “best value digital camera under 100” which gets almost
ZERO searches.
• This term would be inspiring enough for me to create a topic with the following phrase in the
title: “Top 10 Digital Cameras For Under $100 (Highest Value)”
• This is now a “socially engaging” topic and I would assign the original keyword phrase to this
article page inside Keyword Strategy.
• Web Content Studio could be used to draw in the top 10 listed sites and their content phrases
and topic ideas, using search phrases like “best digital cameras” or “cheap cameras,” etc.
“Product” Keywords
• Any keyword that describes a product or service and that can be turned into a hot topic.
• General product terms would be turned into a hot topic based on supporting ideas found via
keywords, social comments and most importantly - your own knowledge.
• Examples would include how toʼs, personal experiences, guides and tutorials, reviews, how to
use, warnings against, etc. (These can also be found using the Long-tail Keyword Researcher).
• A perfect example was already outlined below - Please see “Lesson 14” on the “Buying Used
Cars” keyword phrase.
• I would craft my article and offer even better reasons why these dogs are ideal for apartment
living, or create an entirely different angle (this can vary based on the publisher).
• For a keyword change and a little rankings nudge, I would go to the Google keyword tool and
type in the two phrases “apartment” & “dog” and use the broad match. Doing this, I found and
liked the term “good apartment dog breeds” to use, which would do just fine.
• I would then head over to my article templates and headline file to create something like “What
Makes A Good Apartment Dog? 10 Breeds That Are Perfect For Small Spaced Living” which has
the terms in it that are ideal for an SEO nudge: good apartment dog, breeds, living, dog, etc.
• Use Web Content Studio for max ranking opportunities with additional top 10 long-tail phrases.
• The best tool would be the Long-tail Keyword Researcher program that I advised in the
blueprint. Just type in your topic or keyword interest and you will have all of the hot questions and
solutions to provide in your article.
• Simply craft your content around that keyword. For example, “How To Choose A Camera Lens.”
• Use Web Content Studio to further grab the top 10 listings and all of the long-tail phrases used,
as well as more content ideas. Do not search for that exact phrase in WCS. Instead search the
high volume, short-tail version of the phrase, such as “camera lens” or “best camera lens, “ etc.
• My favorite method is to get inspired to write about something first, then maybe add a keyword
in later (if at all).
• This has proven to be the reason why my health site has been so successful though the Google
updates, even considering the loss of top rankings on high-volume keywords which were
dropped.
• Refer to previous lessons and my success topics as a reminder of the example articles that are
making me the most money without direct rankings.
• The keywords will come naturally as you write your content with this approach. And you will be
surprised at how well the theme score will come out if you test the article with Web Content
Studio (if you feel the need to check).
• If you do want to add a keyword after you write the article then simply follow the steps outlined
in the previous keyword approaches by checking the Google keyword tool, Keyword Strategy
and/or the Long-tail Keyword Researcher tool for ideas.
• These articles are the most fun to write because worrying about the search engines does not
come into play as you create your content.
• The quality tends to be much better and you are feeling what itʼs like to have joy in your writing
and the excitement to be free.
• Freedom to write directly relates to the quality outcome of the content. It never fails.
• Again - add a keyword in the content after the fact, if you wish, as described in examples
throughout this lesson with the other keyword terms.
• Once you finished writing, you may use Web Content Studio to see similar stories that are
highly ranked and check to see if you want to add more stuff, more ideas, or theme keyword
phrases.
...you still need to create valuable content and build up your niche audience for
success. There is no way around it anymore!
So if you are focusing on making the most money with the Adsense program then you'll
need the following 4-point Adsense keyword formula:
Products are the most profitable topic to write about when it comes to getting the most
clicks with adsense because they tend to have very direct advertisers which plant the
best ads for people searching for information on the term.
You typically get a higher CTR (click-through-ratio) due to very targeted advertiser ads
(Adwords). And the "targeted selection mindset" is already in place due to people
looking to read info about that product.
Letʼs say you are an avid car shopping enthusiast and your blog is about all topics
related to helping people get the right automobile, car buying tips, discounts etc., just
like this cool little site here (www.carbuyingtips.com) that gets 43,000 visitors monthly
and is obviously making great money with Adsense:
The CPC (cost per click) is not a solid measure of what you will get paid per click (too
many variables involved). However, many publishers like to select keyword phrases that
offer the highest CPC possible just for good measure.
Your site management tool provides this information (Keyword Strategy) or your
preferred tool (whatever you currently like to use).
As far as the number of advertisers for a specific product keyword, that part is pretty
much taken care of by most products. In other words, I have not seen many products
that did not have at least 4 advertisers going for it on some related way. Just head over
to www.spyfu.com and you can check out the numbers.
Back to our example, letʼs say that I am inspired to make a great article about buying a
used car. I would head over there and check out the keyword “buying a used car” (which
is looking good):
(3) Now Create A “Hot Topic” By Ensuring You Are Providing Solutions
Create an article outline by choosing a long-tail phrase (or making up your own) that
offers help, directions, questions, problems, experiences, etc.
And as you can see, this guy already succeeded with the same advice (he ranked on
the first page for “Buying a Used Car” when I searched and found him):
Step 1: You’ve Seen Me Mention WCS In The Keyword Action Plans, Here Is Why...
Step 2: Watch Andy’s Video & See How WCS Can Help With Post-Penguin Rankings
Step 3: Grab Your Discount When You Are Ready To Install WCS
Step 4: Check For Video Requests & Forum Discussions (Private Mastermind Members)
Not everyone will use it or is interested in the maximum SEO boost, but many of you
probably are.
Note: An exclusive discount has been arranged on this item for all followers of this
course. Andy Williams does NOT discount his own prices. Instead, I pay for each of the
deductions myself so as to help anyone that wants to utilize the program.
Benefit #1: Perfect For Publishers That Need A Structured Writing Plan
You do not have to use this program to make great articles. In fact, I only use it myself
to research and implement what the top 10 highly ranked articles are doing for extra
keyword and topic ideas.
However, I know that many of you might need a structured plan from a program that will
help you provide as much “Post Penguin” SEO as possible to your content in order to
ensure you are getting the most out of your work.
(“Post Penguin” meaning less optimization as we have known it, and more priority on
what people are already considering is the best content out there).
Benefit #2: Perfect For Those That Care About Ranking High With Maximum
SEO Boost
Therefore, no other tool that I have found researches, gathers and collects all of the
best phrases that the top 10 listings are talking about for a specific keyword/topic. You
can use these exact phrases to craft your articles so that you feel confident that your
content is deserving of many possible long-tail hits.
Benefit #3: Last But Not Least, WCS Is A GREAT Keyword Gathering/
Research Tool
Again, my personal motivation when using the tool is not about SEO or rankings, but
rather getting great topic and keyword ideas for my articles (should I need them), as
well as inspiration from areas outside of my main article for future content pieces.
So although I may not crack it open each and every time I write (and most often not), I
do enjoy using it for getting a lot of great content ideas that would be hard to find
anywhere else in just one single location.
(Step 2): Meet Andy On Video & See How WCS Can
Directly Boosts “Post Penguin” Content Rankings
I was going to write up an entire section here devoted to
explaining why and how Web Content Studio can help you get
better rankings with your articles by ignoring the old SEO advice
and simply focusing on the best content possible.
(Using the tool for getting ideas for that content from what the top
10 highest ranked websites are doing).
Below you will see a link to a simple 11-minute video. Itʼs only a few minutes long, but
absolutely phenomenal (especially to publishers like myself who have grown to simply
write the most helpful and “likeable” content possible).
Click The Following Link For The Video (it’s hosted by U-tube):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hf1bg5u9v9o&feature=player_embedded#
Yes we want to be “Google Free” but don’t mis-understand what I’ve been saying
through this entire blueprint. You DO want search engine traffic; you just don’t want to
rely on high rankings for continued growth (or spend all of your time and energy trying to
make it happen).
What a horrible way to be in business; placing focus on rankings you cannot control
rather than focusing on the readers that you CAN control.
If people do not like it enough to consider the content “link worthy” then no amount of
optimization will matter in the long-run. Youʼll be dead in the water like thousands of
struggling wanna-be publishers that you see posting in public forums.
In the long-run itʼs really the content that comes out on top because creating stuff that
people like is what itʼs all about! All of the link-building, SEO, keywords and other tactics
youʼve learned out there can only go so far.
But what keeps those people there? What develops natural links? What
makes readers want to share your articles and videos? What gives you
rankings for long-tail keywords and eventually more competitive terms?
What do people share on Facebook, Twitter, Forums and Blogs?
Once in the content is great (and even that may be pushing it).
Anything more than the above suggestions may prove to be unnecessary. And to be
honest, even these few instructions could still be considered “manipulation” to the
search engines.
Best Practice: Donʼt focus on keywords; focus on the article. If the main keyword from
the title comes up again, great. If not then it doesn't matter so long as the article is
awesome.
(1) Make each title tag UNIQUE by avoiding using duplicate keyword phrases
across your pages.
(2) For keyword placement you may have been advised to position the phrase first
inside the title tag. Yes, this has been a good idea. I do however, prefer that you use
your best judgement based on the article.
For example if your chosen keyword is “Get Stronger” and you wrote an article called
“10 Fast Ways To Get Stronger,” you may want to consider changing the order for the
title tag to: “Get Stronger - 10 Ways To Do It Fast,” which then puts the keyword first.
(3) And I still believe that 60-70 characters is the best length. This has nothing to
do with magical SEO guesswork but more to do with pure common sense.
Utilizing so few characters makes your point clear and concise when the page is pulled
through search engine results. If itʼs easy to read then people are more likely to give it a
little extra eyeball attention.
If you want to make sure that your pages pass all of Googleʼs updates and do not get
thrown into some sort of penalty box then follow my advice here!
Although meta tags are not effective anymore for rankings, the description is still
important. But again, something as simple as describing your web page has turned into
another theory over why Google has penalized sites in updates like the Penguin.
Use a DIFFERENT keyword variation than your main one. Now I understand that
this advice is going to be subject to debate around the SEM circles, and I could care
less. With Google getting smarter every year about filtering these tactics out it and
killing off YOUR sites that over-optimize, how could you not want to avoid any potential
problems?
For example, if your main keyword is "lose weight fast" and your article title is "10
Ways To Lose Weight Fast," and your URL is "yourdomain.com/10-ways-to-lose-
weight-fast," then your meta description should be a variation so as not to trigger a red
flag or appear spammy. Something like this would be good: "Burn fat as fast as
possible the easy way! 10 steps in 30 days is all you need.”
And now the big one: Spread the percentage of actual "written" descriptions with
pages that have absolutely NO written description. This appears very natural, and the
search engines will go and grab their own version of the page description from your
content. I do this all of the time. Interestingly enough you would be surprised at how well
these look in the search engine listings (very natural).
And for those of you that are stuck on writing ideas, simply look at Adwords Ads!
These ads are created to attract with great sales titles and descriptions. Go to them,
look around and use what is already working. Don't copy, but borrow :-)
1) The first is to include the entire article title inside the URL, something like:
2) And the second is to only include the pertinent keywords from the actual article title,
something like this: (Notice that only the main keywords are used in the URL, and not the entire
article title).
Personally, I do not think that header tags carry any weight at all with the search
engines. It might be a good idea to have pages without the H1 tag just to see what
happens.
I never go further than an H2 tag and typically only the H1 tag with some bolding of any
subheadings, list points, etc.
H4, H5, H6 • Donʼt bother (but please do share your opinions in my private forum)
Bolding/ • Although not a header tag, I would advise against bolding or italicizing your
Italics main keyword. Itʼs too common and can be easily penalized by Google. This
has been taught for years by SEOers but may now be considered over-
optimization. You be the judge.
Quick Tip:
Some people prefer to have a different text for the H1 tag (header) and the title
tag. I have tried both and find that it does not matter in terms of what we do as
publishers. In fact, Iʼd like to suggest that you keep them the same.
My thoughts are that if a searcher clicks on your page from a search engine listing then
they are expecting to see exactly what they clicked on (and not a variation).
Internal Linking
For automating internal linking I
would advise that you use the
Keyword Strategy Site
Management Tool which includes
their own free internal linking
plug-in (advised in this course).
Iʼd also like to add that a machine cannot do everything a human would want to do
for you. So while an internal linking plug-in will hunt and find pages that relate to
keywords which can be linked through a descriptive anchor text, I would still advise to
manually create an internal link that connects to a direct page that you feel is important
based on a keyword term.
2) And second, I personally think itʼs also great to have for trust, branding and increased
visitors (for your people). Extra Rankings + Social Trust = A Better Site!
And any other local information regarding your presence you feel is appropriate.
For publishers using wordpress with minimal plug-ins (adding to that the Clickbump
Engine with Scottʼs CSS coding), there is little concern. But for the sake of mentioning
this on-page topic here are 4 quick tips to ensure a fast load time:
Use the permalink I suggested in the site building stages of this course.
When in doubt and you want to check or improve, use Googleʼs FREE help tool:
https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/
Each page should have a link to your site map (generally inside the footer).
If your site gets too large then consider 2-3 additional site maps built up over time.
Can you control everything? No. But what you can control is worth doing it clean. Check
that these sites publish original content, are not MFA (made for Adsense) and provide a
good user experience.
Try to have a regular posting schedule whether itʼs once a day or once a month.
If you have a lot of articles gathered, drip them at around 1-2 per day.
BUT I UNDERSTAND
Having said that, I can actually pitch you some good advice if you are concerned. There
are 2 tips.
(1) Totally ignore your word count. Write however many words that it takes to
accomplish the goal of your article. Whether it be 200 words or 20,000 words; do what it
takes to get the job done!
(2) Second, do not have the same word count on ALL of your articles. This may
seem to contradict point #1 above to not care, but consider for a moment that MFA sites
and Googleʼs war on killing them means red flagging all of those nifty little pieces of
advice youʼve been taking for the last 7+ years.
What I mean it this: Donʼt go out and hire someone to write you 100 articles at exactly
500 words each.
Regardless of the “quality” of the article, having all of your content at around the same
word count looks robotic, spammy and is probably the result of making shitty little sites
for the purpose of trying to get clicks.
This will happen naturally for those of you following my course. The others are still stuck
in the circle of death by listening to marketers tell you to follow a narrow path to “website
building riches.”
So for the sake of avoiding any type of de-rankings due to little glitches that Google may
or may not be hunting for, simply go about your content pages naturally. Itʼs easy - have
fun!
Older domains will always do better than newer domains. Your site will improve over
time just from being aged. Or you could try to get an extra SEO boost from the start by
purchasing an older domain. Itʼs not a science but many people have claimed to see
better results.
However, you need to know that purchasing an aged domain will not be the answer to
your prayers. But if you DO find one that has age, a good history and had links/content/
products in the past that are within the same theme as your new site will; then consider
it.
Be warned: Obtain a domain that has a bad history and be willing to suffer the
consequences!
Length Of Registration:
Then there is the length of registration. How long you buy a domain for has been
theorized by magical SEO specialists to help rankings. They say that the longer you
register, the better your site will do.
So letʼs consider full non-disclosure for our businesses. If you have nothing to hide and
plan on being serious about your new publishing site then why not register for a few
more years? It canʼt hurt and if there is anything at all stemming from the rankings-to-
registration-length-theory, then youʼll have that covered.
Last but not least, Iʼd like to bring up a topic that is not directly involve the “on-page” part
of this checklist. But it is somewhat related and I get the same question at least 2-3
times per week via email.
“John, how many links should my home page get compared to my inner content
pages?”
You probably already know my answer by now and although you are right about how I
feel (for those wondering, the answer is “Who Cares?”), Iʼll still address the men and
women who are addicted to link building.
Your site is going to be created for your niche audience, correct? (yes). Therefore it
goes without saying that a site that people like (not built for the search engines) and one
that will attract different numbers of visitors to different pages is going to have a different
link ratio throughout the entire domain.
In other words:
If 100% of your links are pointed to your home page - red flag.
If an exact ratio are pointed to your home page (like 50%) - red flag.
If the majority of your links are going to your content pages over time - GREAT!
(1) Start with a GREAT article. If you have a main keyword then follow the
"Keyword Density" advice given above.
(2) Adding LSI phrases will not be necessary if you are writing in a niche area you
are knowledgable about (they seem to come naturally). Otherwise, sure, add them if
you can. But do not try too hard. Otherwise you may destroy the quality of the article by
focusing too much on extra theme phrases (LSI).
(3) Do not worry about article length. In fact, it's desirable to have different lengths
on your site. Some might be 600 words, others 250, some 1,000 - 4,000, yet others with
a video with perhaps 150 words to introduce that video. Some pages might even have
nothing but fun images!
(4) Wordpress & Clickbump literally provides you with easy FILL-IN-THE-BLANK
boxes for the: Title Tag, Meta Description, URL, Header Tags, Image Alt Tags, etc. It's
very simple.
(5) Wordpress & Clickbump also provides you with your "Social Proof" buttons.
You can remove them at any time if you like with the click of the mouse.
(6) Wordpress & Clickbump ensures that your page load speed time is
streamlined.
(8) Internal linking is taken care of for you if you use my recommended tool
(Keyword Strategy). However, don't forget to manually add a link to another page on
your site because no plug-in can guess exactly what you want to link to.
(9) If possible, have your local info listed: Address, phone, etc.
(10) And finally, try to post regularly. Keep your content updates fresh and on
schedule. Avoid posting 20 articles in a day then nothing for a month. Weekly is best,
daily is amazing.
BUT WAIT...
THEREʼS MORE!!!
Right Now You Can Put Away Your “Studies” And
Get Back To Work!
Lesson 1: My Suggested Outline - 3 Topics That Provide The Ideal Launch Content
Lesson 6: Ignore Keywords For Now - Why These 3 Articles Should Be Free Style
Lesson 7: Let’s Begin... Write & Publish Your First Article (The “Intro” Post)
Lesson 8: Time To Publish Your 2nd Launch Article (The “Experience” List Post)
Lesson 9: Now For Your 3rd Launch Article - Time To Practice Hero Curation Baby!
Lesson 10: Check For Video Requests & Forum Discussions (Private Mastermind
Members)
As a disclaimer I wanted to say that you do not have to create your first 3 articles like
my suggested outline below. I have always said that you canʼt mold everyoneʼs desired
content types into just one narrow path so please use this as a guide only and craft the
content to suit your specific writing style.
But I would seriously re-think not following my advice because I consider this a good
approach for very good reasons (as explained in steps below).
I advise that you do not rush your content. This is ideal for practice time before you really dig
into a kick-ass article for the ultimate blog post action plan. Just try to do the very best you can
because it will get you into the habit of taking your time and writing quality stuff!
Depending on your unique skill set, just 1 article can take anywhere from 60 minutes on up to 3
hours (including editing and publishing). Some of the big-timers that Iʼve met has claimed to
write for 2-3 days straight on big pieces, and as little as 10 minutes on just a blurb that they felt
was important to post in their blogs.
Even if you only can spare 60 minutes per day then you can still make this work! 60 minutes
daily adds up to 7 hours per week. This is PLENTY of time to write 1 outstanding piece of
content per week and still run it through the ultimate blog post action plan...
So that obviously makes the most sense for the first post,
right? Itʼs open. Itʼs honest. Itʼs easy. Itʼs logical...
Also, try to ass some “Pizazz” if possible. What can you think of that gets your audience
excited? A perfect example is a gadget geek mentioning some cool stuff that influenced
the creation of his gadget blog, or a passionate surfer who mentions his world-wide
surfing experience that influenced his site, etc.
Article 4: Curate A List Of Experts In Your Niche (Give & You Shall Receive)
Your last article to put together before you launch will be a list
post of several of the most influential “experts” in your niche
area.
This is why I was so adamant about teaching you to drop the word “competition” from
your vocabulary. Make friends with these people and you may never have to do a single
drop of SEO for the rest of your life after getting your site out there.
Good habits form early. You just might have a wake up call after you see how much
success can come back from the type of content that I am suggesting you to start off
with.
Itʼs refreshing to actually prepare the launch of your site by being genuine with your
content. You will share an honest intro. You will provide a cool list post (the absolute
best template for any article). You will share a personal experience.
And more importantly, you will get into the habit of curating your hero sites and develop
the manifestation of honest links and real traffic from these sources over time.
You will begin to practice the art of creating very good (but simple) content. Each of the
entire “Content Master Lessons” in phase 9 is meant to show you how to become an
expert content publisher. The rest is up to you to practice.
SO START NOW... Give these articles 100% so that you can get into the habit!
Look at it this way, among the dozen or so highly successful publishers that I have
interviewed during the creating of this course (6-figure social buzz publishers), every
single one of them started out with just a small quantity of content.
Of course you can post as often as you like in time. For now all that you need to do is
launch out with 3 articles on your site. And these 3 articles should all be authentic, real
and personable.
You are opening up a new business, per say, and if you follow my action plan steps then
youʼll see that making an authentic impression of credibility is important to make the
most success possible.
My Advice...
Start changing for the better in this business by coming across as natural as possible.
I do not know you personally. Iʼve never seen your writing. Therefore it is impossible to
diagnose your work. So the best that I can do is to persuade you to find your voice with
time and experience.
Just begin with whatever style you can muster up and be willing to change over time.
How you write has little to do with the search engines and 100% to do with your own
confidence.
Of course you donʼt have to go to the extreme with using a horror flick characters and
blood for pictures, but why not, right? It works, and works great!
As to images and whether they are worth it or not; Iʼve been on both sides of the fence
on this one for years. Itʼs come to my final conclusion, however, that a very good
graphic adds immense value to your site and all of the content involved.
A great image will make your site more colorful and inviting, leading to more visitor
time possibly checking out more of your stuff.
(1) Donʼt worry about a keyword on any of these 3 articles. Just write as if you
never heard of Google before.
3) And yes, once you launch you can begin to concentrate on ranking for keywords
as I have taught you in the keyword master lessons.
(1) Free Style Content: This is content which is written about a topic and involves
absolutely NO no concern for keywords one bit. Forget worrying about theme phrases,
optimization, long-tails, nada...
(2) MOC (Maximum Optimization Content): This is content written with the quality of
Free-Style, but with the added boost of themed phrases and using as many of the same
long-tail keyword phrases as the top 10 Google listings are using for that specific topic.
Both are!
Iʼve met 6-figure publishers who created their success with very simple blogs that did
not do any keyword research whatsoever. They did not worry about 99% of the general
optimization stuff we all have worried about in the past.
On the other hand, many of you are very much interested in getting free search engine
traffic, along with building up an audience, therefore MOC is what you should be doing
for all articles that you are basing around a specific keyword.
Iʼve done it both ways and my personal preference is free-style with a little mix of MOC
(by getting ideas from what the top 10 are using with Web Content Studio).
• Ask your readers to leave comments (this should be done all of the time).
• Ask your readers to provide feedback on what they want in the future.
• Ask your readers to email/phone/contact you anytime with additional suggestions.
• Ask your readers to share other inspirational sites and experts in your niche.
You will have all the time in the world to go after rankings and low competition
opportunities but for now let’s work on being:
LIKEABLE!
And nothing is more likeable than creating content that people in your niche
audience can relate to. Therefore, the purpose behind my suggestion with
this article is to further make your new site as relatable as possible to your
fellow niche enthusiasts.
Have you ever had something to say which involved a lot of personal heart and soul?
Ever been so inclined to share your deep thoughts about an emotional roller-coaster
ride on an experience that you just canʼt forget?
Well guess what? PEOPLE LOVE THIS STUFF! Obviously not all niche areas or
audiences will be interested but Iʼd guess that most do (even in the strangest of niches).
Looking for a great way to connect with your audience and have your content talked
about with others? Then try the “personal problem” post idea.
Itʼs simple: Write about a common problem that other people deal with on a daily basis.
Misery loves company and if you can also write about a solution to that specific problem
then you have found the GOLDEN TICKET!
Link: http://www.webmd.com/sex-relationships/features/managing-marriage-and-money-problems
Setting people straight with a new angle on information is both enlightening and
engaging. This is why writing articles about certain misconceptions related to your niche
audience can do very well.
Link: http://www.bestfriendspetcare.com/pet-resources/dog-behavior-and-training/common-
misconceptions-about-dogs/
Try showing your vulnerable side. Share with your audience the mistakes youʼve made
and what you did (or will do) differently to change. The truth is that we all love to read
about the same problems others are having. Like all content, itʼs also a great way to
share a solution that may or may not make you a sale.
Link: http://www.earthmonkeymoms.com/2012/04/oh-this-mistakes-ive-made5-lessons-from.html
Just like example #4 above, this article does a great job at attracting similar hardships
that your niche audience would be attracted to. Who doesnʼt want to hear about
someoneʼs WORST or BEST day?
Link: http://www.lightstalking.com/mike-panic-my-worst-day-as-a-photographer
Grab your list of hero sites and try to pinpoint the most popular topics from a handful of
them. Look for the “Best Posts” links (or something similar):
Most popular hero sites will have some kind of link in the navigation menu that highlight
their absolute best posts based on readerʼs votes or comments (or both). Use these
articles to give you some ideas on what is working best in your industry.
Do not pick more than 1 article from each individual website. You want to show your
audience (and more importantly your heroʼs) that you are to be a trusted source of
authority in knowing where to go. Here are some example links in the navigation menuʼs
that I just described:
• Product Flourishing has a list of best posts under the “New Here” link:
Why inspiration, cool or funny? And which ones should you go for?
I have to remind you once again that I have no idea what your niche is or who your
audience demographics are. Itʼs really basic stuff though. All you do is come up with a
theme of sources that you know would impress your readers (Iʼll literally write you a
perfect example shortly).
• If you are into gadgets or electronics, then “Coolest” will fit here.
• If you are into getting rich, self development or love, then “Inspirational” is the theme.
• If your site is about quirky stuff, funny quotes or wacky news, then “Funny” fits best.
The common link is generally an inspirational theme that you see across all of these
articles. You should be able to count on about 2-5 common topics that seem to hit a
spark with the siteʼs readers.
(This is not always the case, but is typically a decent guideline in most niche sites and
blogs).
You will have to be the judge of what is the most inspirational to you. Again, I have no
idea of your niche area, audience or what you consider inspiring.
I went through the trouble of putting together 46 variations for you back in the content
master lessons in phase 9, so please use them as often as you can because they
make great articles!
No kidding... Just about any of these would work for literally all article themes. (Thatʼs
why I wanted to share these variations because they are THAT powerful).
Not enough, need another? How about the “What I Learned” list post?
This is so easy, and fun too! I absolutely love coming up with great templates and titles.
So much creativity can go into this. After a while it will become like second nature to
your thought process.
Itʼs time now to see if you have been following my simple instructions throughout this
course and can have fun with simple curation.
The entire point of this 3rd launch post is to get used to curation and also to know what
itʼs like to begin the journey of turning into an authority for your niche audience (or
rather, your future niche audience).
And remember, Iʼm not talking about ripping anyone off or plagiarizing here. Quite the
opposite! (If you have any doubts then please re-read my curation guide Phase 9).
Yep! So please donʼt hesitate to read back over the curation master content
lesson and/or ask me addition questions for clarification!
As you can tell here I am putting a lot more effort into teaching you this 3rd launch post
than the first two because I honestly feel that if you can get the right combination of
curation with self-written material then you can be RICH AND HAPPY in the publishing
business!
But I digress...
Let me give you a quick example of how I might write a 3rd launch post curation article
(free style). And letʼs get a little creative and change the niche example from Investing to
“Photography.”
Hmmm, thatʼs too general. Letʼs get even more creative and curate an article as if I
were in the “Photography Business” niche by grabbing 3 tips from 3 sites. Here is
the curated article:
So I knew that I love taking pictures. I also had several clients that paid me offline for various
studio shots in addition to a growing online business of taking photos for different needs
throughout the city.
But I had absolutely no idea of just how creative I could get with making even more cash from
my passion. Then I found this article which gives 52 ideas on cashing in with my picture-taking
skills: http://blogs.photopreneur.com/52-ways-to-monetize-your-photos
As I photographer the last thing I was concerned about was getting a business license, setting up
a corporation, considering liability issues or any of the dozens of tax codes we need to know
about when being entrepreneurs.
Luckily I found this cool article that covers literally EVERYTHING. This one article saved me
about $300 for legal consultation. You an read about it here: http://www.danheller.com/
photo-inc.html#8.3
You and I both know what it feels like to take care of a photo job and then have the client skip
out on the bill. It happens all of the time and is a part of every online business.
Then I found this great resource from “Black Star Rising” with the following 4 articles that help
us struggling photographers ensure that we get paid for our work:
If my own little self-written example above was not enough for you then here are a few
more live articles that are all basically the same type of method on curating resources
from different sites (each with a common theme).
A general example of curating whatʼs “hot” in any niche is simply providing a list of the
best websites that you can share with your readers. It is universal that people from all
over the world love and appreciate a 1-page article that provides the very best
resources. Remember, no competition - only heros that can help your business grow!

And here is a great article where basic baby questions were asked and then the
answers were curated by “experts” with a link back to their sites (including a small bio).
Link: http://www.justthefactsbaby.com/experts/baby
Here is a great article that isnʼt even a cooking site (itʼs one of those “jack of all trades”
content sites that just so happens to provide quality content). Lifehacker went ahead
and curated the top 10 cooking videos which are all simple and practical recipe
instructions that anyone can follow.

Step 6: Ensure Comments Are Set Up & Working Properly (Disqus Recommended)
Step 7: Add Any Additional Plug-ins That You Are Passionate About
Step 9: Premier Affiliate Banners & Remove Adsense From Content (Both Optional)
Step 10: Consider Adding A “Write For Us” Page (Free Content)
Step 11: Consider Your Site’s Overall “Call-To-Action” (May Be Developed Over Time)
Step 12: Last But Not Least, Review The “On-Page” Items If You Need Refreshing
Step 13: Check For Video Requests & Forum Discussions (Private Mastermind Members)
Is this the best route to take, however? To be honest I have no idea. Some niche areas
are completely meant to be driven by no real personal persuasion or motivation, while
others could sink like the Titanic without giving people a reason to connect and share
their articles to another “like minded human being.”
If you are scared to come off the grid with your personality and still unsure of how to
present yourself then simply stay neutral. You can work the content of your website as
an entity rather than a person. (Although I do suggest the opposite for the most
success).

Comments are important for social signals, rankings, extra long-tail traffic, getting
to know your readers, following up on their requests, etc.
Fraser Cain turned me on to a free program called “Disqus” due to its ease of use
and the ability to draw in social signals. Go here (currently free): www.disqus.com
Listen please: Iʼm not trying to contradict myself on plug-ins and I still feel that less is
more, but Iʼm also not stupid because I realize that many of you probably have more
experience with different plug-ins for wordpress than I do and would not want to
continue without them.
There are literally ENDLESS amounts of these things out there so I could not possibly
suggest what you may or may not be interested in. Therefore, here is my advice as we
get ready for launch week:
If you have any plug-ins that you desire, go ahead and get them activated.
The least amount of plug-ins, the better - youʼll lose site speed with overkill.
Start low then add any plug-ins that can enhance your personal needs over time.
Lastly, I found this cool article that can be a starting point for you:
Link: www.tripwiremagazine.com/2012/08/best-wordpress-plugins.html
These little graphics help you become more recognized and differentiates you from
other similar sites in your niche area. It also looks more professional and polished, like
so (these are just a few of my fitness favorites bookmarked):
Of course this is completely up to you, but my reasoning is that during your first
week you want to grab the attention of some top sites out there and I suggest
avoiding the ads within your content as a minimum effort.
Just a few affiliate banners is fine at this stage but you can always add the ads back into
the content again after launch week is over.
Get out your affiliate product resource file and pick one or more products to highlight as
banners within your side bar.
(You could also just use the same suggested products that your top heros are using).
Although you may not get much traffic and sales from banners just yet (especially since
you are just starting out with a new site), I suggest this step mainly for adding a little
color and design flair to your site.
None is fine too! You can always add them at a later date (or not at all).
Try to genuinely highlight the “best” products that you feel is the most beneficial.
And obviously be sure that they are linked through your affiliate links.
Even 1 free article every couple of weeks is better than nothing in the beginning, right?
Do you want them to subscribe? Then ensure that that there is a subscriber box
clearly visible with some sort of message that entices them to sign up.
Do you want them to join your Facebook/Twitter/Linkedin page? Then highlight it!
Not sure what to do? For ideas on individual call-to-action instructions, there is a
fantastic list over at: http://www.flyte.biz/resources/newsletters/06/10-calls-to-action.php

Seem familiar?
New hype...
New Stuff to Buy...
But You Get Very Little Done...
The first basic part of social media in which YOU as a publisher need to
understand is that itʼs merely a way where you can easily help people share your stuff
with other people. You do this by having social sharing buttons on your article pages
and inviting them to share your content through their favorite circles (Facebook, Twitter,
Reddit, etc.). Easy, enough said, done!
The second part of social media for publishers (and here is where the “hype” and
the “courses” bombard the market) means to be around the circles where your niche-
like-minded audience ***may be*** interacting with each other and sharing cool stuff
that you may have to offer (articles, pictures, videos).
The problem is that marketers try to suggest that EVERYONE should do this in ANY
niche, but thatʼs just silly. You cannot join every social group out there (there are literally
hundreds, maybe more), create a large gathering in each one and somehow market to
them, hoping that these people are going to jump for joy when you spam them!
For us publishers, social media hangouts are like forums and subscriber boxes on
steroids - you can more easily collect fans who “like” you as oppose to just getting a
name and email from a subscriber box (you should do both however). If you do happen
to strike a good crowd to follow you then you can more easily spread your daily
messages and shares with these people.
The core “social media” at this time is Facebook, Twitter, your blog, and additional
places like LinkedIn, Google+, etc. Facebook is #1 for anyone generally looking to start
a fan page. It helps and itʼs a great way to follow your hero sites and begin the process.
Read below...
Bing has been quoted as saying: “We do look at the social authority of a user. We look
at how many people you follow, how many follow you, and this can add a little weight to
a listing in regular search results. It carries much more weight in Bing Social Search,
where tweets from more authoritative people will flow to the top when best match
relevancy is used.”
Google has been quoted as saying: “Yes, we do use it as a signal. It is used as a signal
in our organic and news rankings. We also use it to enhance our news universal by
marking how many people shared an article.”
So what do you do with all of this? The same thing Iʼve been telling you to do
throughout this course:
Create extremely likeable content, encourage others to share that content (share
buttons), get other people talking about that content, and create any necessary social
circles to help further spread the word about that content (Facebook, Twitter & whatever
else floats your boat).
(1) You already know about Web Content Studio and the video that Andy Williams
showed you in the content master lessons. WCS will give you a huge list of the best
theme-phrases to have in your article (so long as you can fit them in naturally). If you
missed it, please be sure to watch Andyʼs video on ranking for thousands of long-tail
phrases in the content prep lessons of this course. (And this thing does so much more
for those that have trouble with article creation).
(2) Second, for maximum ranking power for a new and lonely article which
provides social signals ***from real human beings***, I recommend SYNND. I have an
enterprise account myself and have been using it since 2011. I suggest using the
maximum campaign session for each article that you want to put forth full potential.
(There is a free alternative to Synnd that I provide in the action plan so donʼt get
concerned about becoming a full member right off the bat. And like Iʼve always said,
these are JUST TOOLS. Tools do not make you successful and Iʼd much rather you
spend your resources on great content than stressing over spending money you donʼt
have on items like SYNND).
Your #1 Job...
Your #1 Priority...
Your #1 Goal...
Above all...
Listen everyone, this course will help you get your site out there, get some links going
and provide everything you need in order to succeed.
BUT...
None of my help (or the help of any other teacher out there) will do a damn bit of good if
you do not start learning how to give your niche audience the content they love, share
and link to. Iʼm helping you with everything you need to get out there, but itʼs LIKEABLE
& LINKABLE & SHAREABLE content thatʼll keep you at the top!
In Conclusion:
Your #1 job is to get other sites and blogs to WANT to link to you.
Basically, do not “build” low quality links. Instead, build an audience - get people who
are interested in your stuff to come to your site. Remember what I just said in the last
lesson on fuel and activity.
This activity provides REAL PEOPLE who can subscribe, tell others about your content
(natural backlinks), and buy stuff from you (adsense, affiliate, etc.). This is the goal and
your primary reason to be working so hard.
Avoid spending all of your time picking up and setting up links that provide absolutely no
activity for people in your niche area to come to you.
I just never considered them the best return in value. Besides, Iʼm trying to get you to
replace “link building” with “traffic generation” (itʼs the traffic you want, not necessarily
the links).
Note: I am now going to contradict myself and say that there are SOME link building
tactics that can help give your site great signals and good links which would be
considered "endorsements." These links would be from sources that are high profile,
high authority and with lots of activity. I'll provide a list of such places in the action plan.
Do all you can do as I have described in this course. Follow the few publishers I
have mentioned and find more publishers to be mentored by that are not so much
influenced in-or-around the “Internet Marketing Community.”
Above all, know that if you stop worrying about the current search engine changes
and continue to build your audience up and publishing great content, youʼll come out on
top over and over again while the rest of the herd are buying courses that promise to
“fix” the latest Google update.
Millions of dollars are being made each year from SEO and search engines. You
will always have a piece of that pie regardless of what happens when Google mixes
things up (so long as you take my advice on long articles with lots of theme phrases -
plus quality enough to get natural links).
Just get this through your head and be done with it: THE SEARCH ENGINES
ALWAYS BE CHANGING THINGS AROUND AND THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO
ABOUT IT!
In Conclusion:
Sorry for the apparent shouting in caps on that last item. Iʼm not really shouting as I
write this stuff, just so ya know. Just trying to make a point
Itʼs just that Iʼve been in the industry far too many years now and have built up
thousands of the same questions from people asking me how to dominate Google and
stay on top rankings. You canʼt dominate, but you CAN enjoy it still.
In other words, do all you can do and consider search engine rankings a nice full-time
income bonus once it builds up over time. And it will my friends (all without trying to
dominate #1 spots).
The bottom line is that if you write good content then you are going to get links, plain
and simple. Follow the principles outlined in this course, have unique meta descriptions
and overall your search engine traffic should (and will) be increasing on a bi-monthly
and yearly basis regardless of the shifts in the top 10 spots.
Now here is a new angle that you may not have ever considered:
Donʼt worry about being an authority in Google. Donʼt worry about PR or how
much you have. It will change over time. Your audience wonʼt care one bit whatʼs
happening there.
What Iʼve learned over the years is that PR (a Google authority tool) is simply a search
engine measurement that has no bearing on whether your niche audience will enjoy and
link to your content.
Most of the 6-figure bloggers that have influenced me heavily since 2010 serve only a
small group of people who love and pass around their best content. And these men and
women are doing it without ranking for #1 keywords, fighting for “PR” or worrying what
Google thinks.
BUT WAIT!
Itʼs just that itʼs the REAL PEOPLE out there that
will make you successful in both fans, social signals and rankings (not Google alone).
So my advice is to pretend that Google authority doesnʼt exist. Donʼt worry about PR.
Only put emphasis on how well you can serve up great content and promote it wisely.
And for you new-age thinkers out there, you know as well as I do that once you "let go"
and stop worrying about this stuff, you can then expect to make a living off of Google
indirectly!
(If that last paragraph confused you then please consider reading anything by
Deepak Chopra, Dr. Dyer & Napoleon Hill, just to name a few...)

The Absolute Best Option For Links, Traffic, Rankings, Subscribers & Loyal Readers...)
Step 33: And Finally, Let’s Beat A Dead Horse With Your Own Additional Link Methods (For All
You Link Addicts...), So Head On Over To The Forum & Check For Videos & Discussion
You might spend 1 week on a 10-page guide that ends up earning you $200 per month,
but then a quick 500-page post somehow gets picked up socially and starts earning you
double that amount. So ya never know. Youʼve just gotta keep at it, week after week,
month after month, year after year.
Second Disclaimer:
When inspiration hits donʼt be afraid to throw everything
else out of the window!!!
Your best bet right now is to follow this outline as much as possible until you have an
audience built up to get the word out about your content, taking care of the traffic
internally.
But that is how you hit the mark most of the time. If the 80/20 rule is correct (and it tends
to be very close in all mathematical events throughout life), then youʼll never know if
youʼre getting the most out of that 20% UNLESS you give EVERYTHING 100% from
the start
And I am going to be as honest as Iʼve ever been in terms of creating the type of
content that makes this business fun, rewarding and more profitable than you have
ever imagined.
Instead of the thousands of 500-word testing articles over a 6 year period, I would have
written a total of 200-300 articles in the health industry, all of high-value report-like
quality and in depth curation, known as:
Think about what it would be like to put all of your expertise into this article and
turning it into a $500 per month earner (or more if you are creative) by writing it from an
“info product” standpoint. (I have articles like this and they could have been done
even better had I not wasted so much time with total quantity of other articles.
Now Imagine the mental excitement of having the targeted goal with putting all of
your energy for a week or two writing just one single article (yes - ONE) that is the same
quality and length as a small report or e-book on the subject. Iʼm not talking about a 500
word article here that summarizes points. Iʼm talking about a definitive guide, the best
source, something that people would actually pay for, etc...
You are confident. You LOVE your article. You appreciate what you have to offer
into the world. Youʼre proud to share this article with the people in your life. And most
importantly, you KNOW that this is the type of content in which people that like it are
going to jump at the opportunity to share and link back to it with other people through
blogs, forums and social hangouts.
You linked back to all of these hero experts within your content. You showed them
that you respect the work that they have done and that you are to be noticed. Guess
what happens next? You actually contacted these publishers about the article. They see
that you are giving them traffic. They see that their own content is being used on your
outstanding article. They ultimately tell their readers about your article and send loads
of traffic and subscribers your way!
Then there are the search engines. It is quite possible to rank and get traffic from
500 - 2,000 or more long-tail phrases on Google from just one big article. These are
those one-time phrases that none of us know about or can guess ahead of time. They
actually cover more than 50% of the entire search numbers (according to the experts).
And how do you climb to the #1 spot without trying, and stay there? By getting
REGULAR social signals, REGULAR visitors, and REGULAR interaction from various
link sources to this article. Sure you will go up and down from this top spot but this is
just INDIRECT BONUS RANKINGS apart from everything else. (Never chase those top
spots, just enjoy when you get there).
Purchase books, both offline & e-books (and anything else that actually
sells the information you need).
Use a list-post template for an easy read if you like (but not necessary).
Run the article through my ENTIRE action plan then spend a little time
each day looking for other places to promote it.
And Finally, BUILD YOUR LIST... Have a separate subscriber box from
this one article. Youʼll be able to sell this list related affiliate products because
youʼll know SPECIFICALLY what they are interested in since they subscribed to
this particular article.
Been to Facebook lately? I bet all of your “friends” are constantly sharing photo
captions, videos and funny articles that are brief in nature.
Also, the length and size of your content will depend on your niche area. Obviously a
fan site about shoes will not have long, “How To” articles. Instead they will have lots of
pictures and cool stuff pertaining to shoes.
Regardless though, the more you put in, the more that comes out (universal law).
1) There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with hiring writers from the online sources that I
mentioned above. You just might find a decent long-term writer that fits your budget (but
the odds are few and far in between).
2) Second, the truth is that great articles (from true experts in a niche area) will
invariably cost more money than you may be used to. I canʼt give a true figure because
the amounts vary from writer to writer. However, if you catch a new person trying to
break into the writing business then you could get them started at a low cost.
3) And finally, finding good writers in the manner that I am about to describe takes a bit
of hunting, researching and then making contact. I suggest that you spend a little
time each week (preferably 2-3 times per week or even daily) trying to contact these
writers.
So long as you are direct and honest with them (Iʼll show you how) then picking up a
few great experts at a decent rate should be no problem at all (even free).
time...
The last thing I am trying to do is put any struggling writers out of business so please
take my first disclaimer to heart as a reminder: Yes you can still find quality writers out
there that are cheap and from sources like Elance and marketing forums.
This is supposed to be my “BEST TIPS” on finding writers, not the “DROP THE
WORLD AND ONLY DO AS I SAY” type of stuff. So please take my advice as itʼs meant
to be (I would appreciate that).
(2) OR... Any “non-expert” that has “personal experience” in your niche area.
But those arenʼt the ones you want. Instead, here are your true “experts”:
• Fitness •
You want writers who have actually trained and certified to teach other people how to
get in shape (and with a clientele to back it up).
• Finance •
You want writers who are either college educated about finance with a degree and/or
have worked for financial institutions (they know the ropes).
• Cooking •
You want writers who have proven themselves to be great cooks, have cooked at
restaurants (not McDonaldʼs obviously) and have culinary qualifications.
• Photography •
You want writers who have actually been to photography school or have been
passionately training themselves to be great photographers.
You want writers who have been playing and teaching guitar lessons for several years -
people who could lay down advice on all music lessons and guitars.
• Job Hunting •
You want writers who have actually helped others find jobs and are trained to help
people with all aspects; from resume help to passing an interview, etc.
Ha... I figured you might be wondering that same question. And NO, Iʼm not
smoking anything funny today...
(Just a little joke, as on November 6th 2012, two U.S. states finally made marijuana
legal for recreational use. That stuff isnʼt my cup of tea but I think itʼs a great move
towards extending our freedoms on a plant that should have been legal to begin with.)
You want writers who have gotten into great shape by following a specific program.
They should have genuine, real-life experience by having committed to a fitness
program and achieved great results, and who are excited to help others.
You want writers who have taken advice from a financial expert or consultant and
followed through with the steps and achieved great results in any of the many dozens of
financial niche areas: budgeting, stocks, investments, etc.
You want writers who have become great home cooks or started their own restaurants
based on learning from the experts out there. They are typically people that never went
to culinary school or basic cooking classes, but learned on their own and are now in the
position to share their experience with others.
You want writers who have become great photographers based on a personal passion
and are literally eaten up by their interest in taking wonderful pictures and using the best
equipment that money can buy. They may only be doing this as a hobby but have
enough experience to share and help others.
You want writers who have been playing guitar for as long as they have been breathing.
Hundreds of thousands of men, women, teens and kids all around the globe
passionately learn and play guitar. They may not be teachers or provide lessons, but
they have enough experience and personal interest to provide great content in helping
others who share the same interests in music.
You want writers who have taken the advice of a job-hunting expert, book or course and
successfully went out and landed a great job. These people may not be teaching others
all of the “ins and outs” of job hunting but can still provide excellent content based on
their real-life experience of obtaining employment.
Do I really need to explain why your hero sites and leading authority publisher blogs are
the best places to look for writers?
• These publishers have lots of great content that are published by other writers.
• The quality/authority of these sites would mean that the writers have to be decent.
• Most often these writersʼ names, email and contact links are shared for credit.
• So what do you do? You hunt down and contact these writers FOR YOUR OWN SITE!
Below you will be shown a combination of articles that were written by people OTHER
than the actual owner of the site or the main publisher.
Do yourself a favor and visit these sites and check out how they use a combination of
OTHER WRITERS mixed THEIR OWN WRITING.
Please keep in mind that my suggestions on how to find your writers are not set in
stone. There have been GREAT articles written by people that are not experts OR that
have absolutely no personal experience in a niche area (it just helps).
So take my advice on some content, but completely ignore it on other content. You
make the call because there are too many variables to determine what to do and how to
do it with the millions of topics that can be built upon!

Never, NEVER sacrifice likeability or quality of the article. When in doubt, always
write about the TOPIC FIRST, then hunt for keywords to include (that may very
well be my best writing tip).
1) If you have WCS then use it for your theme phrases and content ideas.
2) If you donʼt have WCS then consider it you can afford the investment (donʼt forget
your customer discount over at my discounts page).
3) If you are unsure then please go back and watch the video that Andy put up (the link
is in the Master Content Prep Lessons) to learn a few things about the how theme
phrases impacts your search engine traffic.
How and what you say is a personal thing. I donʼt know now your audience, what you
are serving up as far as products, or the personality type with the content written. But I
do know that you have everything to gain by being confident about asking for something
in return on each and every one of your siteʼs pages.
Here, let me show you how simple it is with a couple of live samples:
http://www.inc.com/geoffrey-james/how-to-sell-if-you-hate-selling.html
http://beersmith.com/blog/2008/03/26/6-tips-for-crystal-clear-home-brewed-beer/
Head over to www.linkbaitgenerator.com and sign up for access. Donʼt worry, they do
not send you many emails or spam you at all. In fact, at the time of this writing itʼs been
almost 30 days since I created my own account and not 1 single email has been sent to
me from the company.
You want to make friends and get your articles linked from your heroes, so give first and
karma shall follow!
Note: If you are curating then you will be taking care of this suggested step without
even trying. Linking out is a very good link-building tactic because these publishers
might send the link out to their list and fans to show how they were “mentioned” in your
article.
Note: Internal linking has been proven to be a good SEO strategy (as well as beneficial
for your readers), so if you are not using Keyword Strategyʼs free internal linking plug-in
then consider using something similar.
With the way wordpress is set up it will automatically ping your list of sources each time
you are editing a new blog post. This can get you flagged as a spam site. So here is a
plug-in that might help (you could also find similar plug-ins to compare it to to ensure
you are making the right decision).
Itʼs called “Wordpress Pin Optimizer” and here is the direct link:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-ping-optimizer/
This step is for those of you taking my advice on setting up your site with Keyword
Strategy (remember that you get 30 days free and then a 10% discount from my
discounts page).
Donʼt forget that any time you need a refresher on working with Keyword Strategy, head
on over to Fraser Cainʼs tutorials and videos over at: https://www.keywordstrategy.org/
manual/
This can be a great idea if you are only posting content once or twice per week. Here is
a simple example of how this particular small website emailed me about one of their
articles:
You would just make a list of all recent articles to send in one email. Keep them at
around 3-5 or so. More than that could not grab the attention needed. 10 or more might
work if you have built up a great following of people who anticipate your content and do
not mind looking through the email, like so:
To see how your niche audience reacts best to mailings, study the newsletters of
the successful heros in your niche area.
If you are writing 1 or 2 pieces of content per week, consider an email message
each time.
If you are writing more than 1 or 2 articles weekly, then consider piling them up into
1 email as shown in the example image above.
I can already see that this step might get overlooked because some of you are not
treating your publishing business like a REAL business; quality, insights, sharing and
serving.
If this is you, then please stop everything you are doing and ask yourself some deep
questions on finding a venture that you can be proud of and one that you could put
down on a business card.
2) Ask them to Facebook-like the article, tweet about it, Digg it, stumbleupon it...
Anything and everything they can do to initiate those free and trusted social signals.
3) And if you are running Adsense, DO NOT HAVE THEM CLICK YOUR ADS. I
realize most of you already understand that this could risk your account (and probably
will have it banned), but I still do get the occasional email from a newbie publisher who
had asked people to click their ads and then is wondering why their account is closed.
Do not jump in and join all of these sources if you are not ready yet. There is no real
secret sauce to any of these areas. They are merely ways for you to build up followers if
your niche area tends to hang out in any of these social grounds.
For the newbies, just start with a Facebook page and your Twitter account, or
even just Facebook.
Your announcement can be posted even if you only have a few followers (or ZERO at
the moment). Itʼs great practice and builds up confidence.
3 Great Tips:
Hero Fan Pages: Your hero file information exists for a reason. Use it! For anyone
scratching their heads at what I mean, itʼs simply about looking at your hero fan pages
and tweets to see how they go about letting followers know about new content.
Tweet URL Tip: If you are going to announce on Twitter then consider shorting the
URL using www.bitly.com or www.tinyurl.com so that you can minimize the amount of
characters used on Twitterʼs maximum allowance regulations.
Shortcut Tip: If you really get moving along fast and would prefer to shorten the
amount of time it takes to make your announcement then consider using www.dlvr.it
He curates an article, runs it through a full Synnd social signals campaign in under 15
minutes (Social bookmarking, Facebook likes, Tweets, Blog Comments, etc.), then
moves on to the next curated article.
We had talked on the phone last year for about 2 hours about his process. Heʼs a No-
Bullshit kind of guy and is VERY successful at publishing so when he speaks, I listen
and take action!
(And if you ever get a chance to buy anything from this guy, do it - he does not offer
products but once in a blue moon and itʼs worth every penny)
“Do the ONE thing but do it consistently. Post content consistently and create the
“signals” consistently (Synnd).
“For a few years now, Iʼve been hammering home the point of “consistency” in
bringing new, fresh content to your blog.
“No dude, Iʼm not saying you can now start auto-blogging and all will be fine.
Youʼre still going to get eaten alive (and spit out like a rotten egg) by the good
folks over at the Google Plex.
“I see the actual results everyday when I look at the traffic numbers from our
Como blogs as well as my personal curated blogs, itʼs just cool to see the ʻhunchʼ
confirmed by Google.
“Thatʼs why itʼs important to not worry too much about all the junk exercises most
tell you to do to get back links – do ONE thing (Synnd or whatever else) that
sends out ʻsignalsʼ into the Google algorithm and gets you indexed, ranked,
traffic...”
Poorly written or auto-curated content on badly chosen niches by the typical IMer
trying to make a buck instead of a real business will only waste his or her money.
From my personal experience and the experience of mentors like Peter, Synnd is an
amazing tool for helping get your new content immediately syndicated through the best
social signals possible.
Note: I have arranged the following discount from the company BUT it only comes open
in batches of 20-30 people at a time. So please contact me when you are ready to take
advantage of the following offer (and ONLY if you understand the program and can
afford the investment).
If you are currently not a member of Synnd then I suggest you join up for the free “Light”
Version over at the main website (www.synnd.com) and play around with it a bit. (You
can always upgrade under my JohnX discount if and when you are ready - just email
me).
Note: You will also want to download all of their free materials which educate you on the
many aspects of social signals, why Synnd is different than other seemingly similar
services, and how to best use Synndʼs campaigns for maximum results.
As the straight shooter I am here Iʼll be the first to tell you that
Synnd is not the key to success of your dreams (no tool is).
But it IS fantastic service that gets the job done, and done
well (not to mention that Synnd is safe without footprints,
spam or fake backlinks).
If I had to start over again at this time period with social taking over, I would be forced to
get the ball moving in a different direction. Iʼd want to get things done faster, more laser
targeted and with the utmost possible success from my content and promotion. In fact,
it would be the exact same steps you are reading in this phase (and ones that I currently
advise clients to follow).
Today, my social signals are all over the place (this is good thing). My incoming links all
over the place. My best, most socially-buzzed health articles are literally everywhere
due to other people having picked them up and syndicating the content since late 2007!
(when you submit over 3,000 original and high quality articles out there then only good
things can happen).
First of all, unless you are developing awesome content that I have been preaching to
create throughout this course (and in the social and SEO manner prescribed) then no
amount of social signals will help you in the long run.
Synnd can get you the exposure needed for a boost but it cannot “keep people with
you” or get them “linking back and recommending your content” all over the web if you
are not taking your article creation seriously (sorry - just telling you the truth).
Sure you may get rankings (even visitors and income with Synnd alone), but they will
drop quickly without regular, long-term human beings that are linking to your site on a
regular basis.
• If you want faster search engine rankings due to hundreds of social signals (buzz) that
are all coming from unique sources and without spam or building harmful backlinks
then you will appreciate this service. You get a spike in traffic and all of your potentially
rankable long-tail keywords are rocketed into maximum position to get picked up.
• Getting this many quality social signals from thousands of other people around the
globe in the Synnd system gives your content higher exposure in the social networks,
helps spread the viral element (depending on your article) and gives as much “social
proof” as you could ever ask for.
• And because Synnd uses thousands of its members who all have individual IP
addresses to syndicate your content, there is absolutely no worry of Google seeing all
of this activity as being “forced” (no other service compares).
No, they are not backlinks in the traditional sense that you probably know of. They are
more like “signs” or “yeah this article is cool” or “holy smokes these people really must
think this content is worth the attention,” etc.
Speaking of backlinks, let me say right here and now that backlinks are still going to
remain a ranking factor for the long haul. I donʼt care how many updates Google does or
what Matt Cutts says about the subject (which he did recently say that links to a site will
remain somewhat of a factor).
But the fact of the matter is that today and moving forward, Google, Bing and the other
search engines are putting a heavy priority on social factors (signals).
So what do they actually look like? Well, here ya go - Social Media Science already did
a great job in explaining it with 1 graphic:
First off, I realize that there were many people waiting on this course to be released
before running their Synnd campaigns, but Iʼm not sure why because Synnd provides
very in depth PDF training suggestions and new videos on setting up campaigns and
answering questions. Here ya go, just like they have here on the “Enterprise” training
page: http://synnd.com/synnd-enterprise-training/
There is no one-size-fits-all for a maximum campaign but Iʼll go ahead and give you
some pointers in case you want to know what my personal thoughts are.
P.S. This is all provided by Synnd in case you are wondering about documentation. Itʼs
very cut and dry.
• Personally speaking, I am not as much interested in the article marketing stuff but
instead more excited about the top social sites that can start offering immediate activity
with new content (Bookmarking sites, Social news sites, Twitter & Facebook).
You will want to CHANGE UP your numbers for each article. This is all covered in the
Synnd training but the general rule is that in the “real world” you will never get the same
amount of Facebook likes, tweets, comments, etc. on all of your articles. So spread and
mix them each time for more natural and organic signals.
(5) What Is The Best Thing To Do When First Signing Up With The Service?
Again, all of this stuff is covered in the training modules so I am not going to be detailed
here, which is why I suggest that you take your time going through all of the videos and
PDFs provided by the company. (Itʼs never smart to rush into a tool like this without
taking the time to become familiar with the mechanics).
• Make sure it is non-promotional for maximum viral ability (basically just write a kick
ass article as I have instructed in this course)
Yes but itʼs gong to be quite tough to get the diversity of IP addresses (which is what
could get you in trouble with other related services) but you can certainly get the job
done by hiring or outsourcing from Fiver or something.
So if I could not afford the business expense of getting social signals moving to new and
lonely content with Synnd, I would simply do the following tasks and then move on with
the rest of the blueprint:
(B) Then add SocialMarker, OnlyWire, IMAutomator & SocialADR (All Free or Low-Cost)
(C) Finally, Mix In Keeko and possibly a paid Facebook service for additional social signals.
Or Just Completely SKIP All Of This & Let Social Signals Grow Organically!
The first thing that I would do if I could not afford the monthly investment for the Synnd
special would be to sign up for Synnd Light.
And donʼt just use this free service to play around with the functions and daily credits.
Use this account to take advantage of the companyʼs free documentation.
Itʼs great education, plus you can learn a bit more about the phenomenon of how SEO
is moving from search engine hits to social recommendations in todayʼs online
marketing world.
With Synnd Light youʼll be able to initiate the following free social signals:
If I did not have the investment for Synnd or did not want to run Synnd Light on my
computer then I would take Shane Melaughʼs advice from his world-famous course,
“Backlinks Battleplan” (no longer for sale) when it comes to a low-cost solution to getting
social bookmarks: ImAutomator, SocialADR & OnlyWire.
The combination of all 3 tools can be dirt cheap (so long as you use the lower-priced
options):
IMAutomator: www.imautomator.com
(The free version offers Synnd-like services as well, more than just bookmarking)
OnlyWire: www.onlywire.com
(C) Third, I Would Give Keeko A Shot (Free) & Maybe A Facebook Service
(Paid) For Additional Social Signals For Likes, Tweets & Google +1s, etc.
I love any program that gets real people involved and from diverse locations. Keeko is
one such service. At this time it is totally free besides a little give-and-take action. You
do have to put some legwork into it by looking for stuff you like and helping other
members.
Keeko: www.keeko.com
(At the time of this writing, Keeko is free but you do have to participate to help others out)
(Several clients claimed to have enjoyed this service, but do your own due diligence)
Not only that, but these signals and numbers attract real
people to stop at a suggested article on your page, look at
the activity, and think “Hey this must be good!” as they
read on and potentially make you some money.
HOWEVER...
You could always just skip trying to “force” your new content to get noticed and just take
the road that many successful publishers have taken: Damn good content with a slow
build up of rankings & followers!
So you do have the option to keep things as simple as possible, get to know the ropes,
focus on writing amazing content and then dipping your toes into the water a bit as you
learn more about social signals and such.
Trust me, If you are new then Iʼd much rather see you focus on your content
without any distractions before you spend too much time with this other stuff.
EMAIL CONTACT!
Remember that these people have a bigger audience than you so links and traffic can
be substantial!
It only takes a few minutes. And look at it this way, if you emailed a group of hero
publishers and only 1 curates your content or suggests the article to their list and fans
then it will all be worth it! Heck, even if you only get 1 out of every 10 articles noticed
this way then itʼs worth the time.
Look, we as publishers have missed little steps like this when trying to promote new
content. Itʼs so darn easy and yet nobody really does it.
So now I want you to put together your own email template based on the following tips
when contacting a few of your personal niche hero sites and blogs:
My 4 year old daughter does it all the time, “Daddy, I love you so
much.”
Then sheʼll immediately ask for something: “And can you take me
to Chucky Cheeses today? Please Daddy, I love you...”
My little 4 year old girl knows that if she wants to really get my attention then she has to
get on my good side first and make friends with me in THAT moment.
How this small child figured it out is beyond me, but I love it!
Easy: Just donʼt start your email off with YOU telling them about YOUR content asking
them to share YOUR story.
Instead, you should immediately develop a relationship by saying something nice and
getting on their good side first (itʼs basic psychology):
• Tell them you that you are on their list and social media notifications.
• Tell them how much they inspired you to start your own website.
And this is why I do not want to provide you with an exact template because human
nature is prone to avoiding self-growth when hitting uncharted tasks, and youʼll end up
not writing an email that is personable and unique to your style.
Therefore, in addition to making a friend in your email, be sure to use these tips:
• Tell them how much you liked their last blog post (or any of their past
articles).
• Tell them exactly what part of the article you liked or share some
quotes.
Let the hero publisher know that you have something that can bring value to their site
and their audience (not the other way around).
Most people would say something like this: “Iʼve got this great article that I think
youʼd like and I was wondering if you could link to it.”
Wrong!
Nobody wants to “link” to anything anymore. We want to share it, curate it, build upon it.
“...the reason why I am emailing you is because I was so inspired on your recent
blog post where you discussed solutions to building muscle through paleo dieting,
and that I personally wanted to expand on the subject.
“In fact I did about 10 hours of research and put together a manifesto that I
think you might want to consider as a ‘Part 2’ of your article, so to speak.
“Because I respect your work it would be great if you could take a quick look and
see if you or your readers would get some value from the article.
“And if you think your readers might like to read it then you have my full
permission to share it with them.
P.S. I’d love to keep up to date on your articles and was wondering if you have any
other online areas where I can see more, like a forum or something? Thanks.

John Robinson

You can email them (as shown in the last step), send them a tweet, write up a Facebook
post - whatever you want to do based on the line of contact you have and prefer.
First of all, these heros most likely have a big following of subscribers, Twitter
followers, Facebook followers, etc. in which you can get tons of traffic from.
Second, this is a potential traffic GOLDMINE. Just one shout-out to their list of fans
could mean a huge increase in your own fan base and profit.
“Hi Bob, I published your biggest “used car shopping tip” on my new article a
www.dont-forget-to-use-BITLY-or-TINYURL-to-shorten-these-domain-names-up-
for-Tweets.com so you may want to share with your followers.
2 Quick Tips:
(1) Did you catch that reminder in the domain? Read the URL again if you missed
it. Youʼll need to shorten up the tweet link with a URL shortener service (I already
mentioned this) to keep the character count down to below Twitterʼs 141 limit.
(2) You could also be very direct in asking for them to share the article via all of
their social channels (Facebook, Twitter, Subscribers, Google Plus, and any other social
hangouts).
(You could also have just sent an email first and then the social channels afterwards.
There is no magical order of this stuff. I personally have used email instead of sending a
tweets, as twitter has not been a major player in communications when I started building
a list. I prefer email and subscriber list building to get the word out, but there is no harm
in doing both).
Here ya go...
Hi Bob,
I really loved your article that you wrote on the “best car buying tips.” I enjoyed it
so much that I wanted to share a few of your ideas with my own readers.
If you noticed a bit more visitors lately then they probably came from readers of
my own blog (my subscribers). As you can see I highlighted some of your tips and
suggested that my people come by to visit your website (and to sign up for your list
and Facebook fan page).
(As you can see by the Facebook likes, shares and comments - people really like it!)
It would be great if you could also tell your readers about my own article which
highlights your tips (My blog is fairly new and I’m working hard to build up loyal
readers).
Feel free to post a link on your Facebook page, tweet and/or tell your subscriber
list if you can.
Take care and feel free to chat with me anytime. My contact details are below.

----------------------------
I know people that use this tactic as their #1 traffic-generating work task.
They create very good articles that are comparable to info products.
They set up as many alerts possible for all kinds of related keyword terms.
Finally, when those alerts come in they head on over to the blogs, forums, videos,
etc., and join in on the discussions while tactfully dropping a link to their pages.
Note: This step is also great to be implementing WHILE YOU ARE WRITING YOUR
CONTENT (as you will come up with keywords to create alerts with as you research
your material). But I did not want to confuse anyone who is just starting out. So next
time you are sitting down to write a new blog post simply make notes along the way of
related keywords and then set those alerts up at your leisure.
• For starters, youʼll be on the list of breaking news and articles within your niche area!
Link building and content promotion aside, you get the chance to see if there is anything
cool happening in real time that you can curate and share with your readers.
• And for the sake of promoting your new content for links and traffic, youʼll get to see
all of the blogs that you can comment on which relate directly to your article (or even
remotely related to your niche area for a link if you wish).
• Question & Answer sites sites will show up embedding your keyword terms, allowing
you to promote your article for links and traffic.
• In addition, forum discussions and social threads will rise up from great sources where
you can promote your content at.
Note: There are quite a few alert monitor tools that you can add to the list when and if
you decide to expand your alerts (such as Twitter Alerts and Technorati Watchlists), but
for now letʼs keep it simple and work with Google alerts only. Expand when you are
ready.
Then I would simply head over to http://www.google.com/alerts and read through the
FAQs for extra details on my first visit.
You can use quotes for specific words in that order. Terms without quotes can be used if
you would like to get the alerts from phrases in any order (much like general keyword
research).
The rest of the fields are self explanatory. I would probably go with:
(1) Youʼll start by setting up a few alerts (you can always add more later).
(2) These alerts will come into play in later steps on forum posting, blog
commenting & question qnswering (also video & social comments if you wish).
3) Alerts will also give you an opportunity to share your product review articles (for
the most income).
(1) Is your article poised to make you the most money? In other words, do you
have a solution highlighted for people to buy if possible (as an affiliate)?
(2) Is your article set up to grab the audience and have them follow you? This
should already be taken care of by now through setting up your subscriber box, social
buttons, and “call to action” statement.
(3) Are you prepared to invest into a little free advice and content creation when
you arrive at these quality alert stations? You canʼt just go in and say “Hello, great topic
on plants. Visit my site for more information.” You need to CONTRIBUTE.
When our little girl outgrew the general sized play-pen that you can find in Babys-R-Us,
Target & Walmart, we were forced to go out and find something bigger.
We also wanted a playpen with a door that had to be at almost 34 inches high and
that could be locked.
Why?
Second, we had 3 family members asking us where to get it because they too had
toddlers (both my sister-in-laws and one brother-in-law). Even friends with kids were
asking us how to buy it.
And check this out - A few weeks after the playpen was installed we purchased a new
king size mattress. It was delivered one afternoon and the mattress delivery guy was
also interested in where to get our play pen. He too was having trouble finding the ideal
set up.
Every great success that I have personally achieved in my life just came out of
nowhere. Of course you canʼt just sit there and wait for things to happen. But what Iʼm
trying to say here is that when I saw a business model then I always dove right in and
stuck with it.
But those “business models” were just paths that led to better opportunities. So your
website and niche area may be on health and fitness, but you might attract an
opportunity to gain online clients that pay you each month for one-on-one fitness
mentoring.
Your niche area might be dogs and pets, but you may attract a job from a major doggie
magazine that wants you to write 2 small columns per month at $1,000 each.
Your niche area might be success and motivation, and you may attract in invite to start
speaking and giving seminars at $2,000 per hour.
Now letʼs back to the steps I took to go from an idea to earning income.
(2) I created a 1-page document which outlined the perfect playpen for toddlers. I
removed Adsense from the page because this thing cost well over $400 and I was
getting 5% from each sale in the beginning. This was $18 per sale (I now get 7%). I also
make commissions on upgrades, which are extra panels that go for $50 each.
3) Because I could never compete with the top “playpen” keywords for rankings, I
set up as many Google alerts as possible. Each day I probably received about 200-400
alerts because I wanted to have everything coming in so that I could filter it all properly
(most links were crap, but that is totally normal with broad keyword terms).
4) I had my wife & brother filter all of the alerts when they had the chance (Iʼm a
busy guy but you can do this yourself if you do not have help).
5) Without going into great detail on stats (because there is never a regular set
pattern from doing this), I probably went out and joined about 30-40 discussions per day
on forums, blogs, etc.)
6) Once I showed my wife how to join, discuss, and lightly suggest the article
page, she then started doing this on her own time. My brother also pitched in when he
could (on his good days from MS).
7) Out of nearly 200+ discussions per week my wife was getting us about 2-5
affiliate sales on a good day. That amounts to nearly $100 on average daily revenue
which was not built on SEO.
9) The second trick: We worked our asses off getting the word out there through
Google alerts about this 1-page document (which was basically just a VERY GOOD
sales page for the playpen and itʼs attachments).
(10) And finally, we still earn about $1000 per month even when nobody is hitting
alerts and discussions on forums, social areas and blogs. This is because many of
those sources in which we joined long ago are indexed and still being found in the
search engines. (Today I do try to get my brother to help when he can, as my wife is too
busy with both kids right now).
How you approach ideas like this in your own publishing business will be different and
unique. It will take time and practice. And youʼll find that itʼs not worth it unless you have
a very good article that helps people.
Seriously... Get started by focusing on “needs” in your niche area and then create
content that helps with solutions. Youʼll eventually start to attract opportunities like my
playpen affiliate business.
Now please read the “STOP” memo below and check out the best keyword phrases
to add to your niche phrases for your alerts.
Also...
Well, MAYBE...
Forums have given me some of my highest adsense earning days on quite a few health
pages, as well as launched out a 6-figure IM teaching business by complete accident
from 1 single thread.
So yes... I am going to suggest that IF you have the ability to create a helping
presence on forums with your specific niche area then by all means get that ball rolling!
But please donʼt get the idea that you are about to visit a forum for the first time, make a
post, pop out a link and POOF - instant backlinks and visitors.
Second, itʼs a complete waste of time to drop a bunch of links throughout a handful
of forums without having built up a reason for actual HUMANS to follow those links.
And third, sure it CAN work like magic but youʼll have had to put in some leg work
ahead of time to build an audience of people that would respond to such a post. Youʼll
need to be social involved by offering quality information, genuine advice and really
digging your teeth into your niche audience.
(1) My health site gets some of the best daily traffic from forums, such as those
that link to my set of vaccine articles. And these arenʼt even posts that I am a part of!
(this is the stuff of magic that happens over time).
(2) Second, keep in mind that I accidentally launched this entire publishing
teaching career of mine by COMPLETE ACCIDENT after posting in a very popular
marketing forum about my efforts (yep... this is all part-time for me and was because of
1 single forum thread that was started years ago).
Here are the basic steps when it comes to getting involved with forums to get links,
visitors and a building a brand.
Remember first that all of this stuff is completely optional so if it doesnʼt feel
natural then donʼt do it! Itʼs as simple as that.
These are all just the best tips offered to get as much activity going on new articles as
possible, but they are just that: TIPS!
Remember when I said earlier in this course that I am a straight shooter. Well here is
another perfect example of what that means...
I am going to tell you immediately that if you are in a niche that you have absolutely no
interest or knowledge of (or very little), then I would not waste my time with building up a
brand and trying to gain links and visitors from forums.
Itʼs not like itʼs impossible, but letʼs be honest here. Itʼs going to be boring, robotic and
without any enthusiasm to attract those visitors. In turn there will be very little attraction
of people to your posts or motivation to follow links to your articles.
I Could Be Wrong...
So if you choose a niche like “home loans” because an Adsense course out there told
you that it was profitable then by all means give it a shot!
Just because I personally would not be able to produce results in forums that I
have no personal interest in does not mean that it canʼt work for YOU. Iʼm
always willing to be proven wrong if it means that you become successful!
(You also probably spend more time and money on these places than you need to, so
letʼs change that habit and start getting you to be just as active on your niche forums
from now on)
Iʼll get to some search keyword tricks in a second, but the most obvious first step is to
check your leading hero sites and blogs to see if they sponsor a forum. Simply look for
the term “Forum” or “Community” or “Discussion Board” in their navigation areas.
Beyond checking hero sites, youʼll find forums by using the following search engine
footprints:
• “Forum” + Your Keyword
• “Powered by VBulletin” + Your Keyword
• “Powered by phpBB” + Your Keyword
• “Powered by WowBB” + Your Keyword
• “Powered by SMF” + Your Keyword
• “Powered by Power Board” + Your Keyword
• Etc...
These are just the basics. You may find other more advanced search terms out there so
feel free to play around with any additional forum search phrases that you know about.
Note: And as an obvious reminder, you will have to add in your own niche-related
keyword terms. I prefer to add some other terms like “discussion” or “forum” or “thread”
or “board,” etc. for the best results, like so: “Powered by SMF” + fishing + forum
You simply use the search term foot prints that I shared
and instantly get hundreds to thousands of possible forum
locations to begin building your traffic, links and
popularity.
Like So:
(Full-page screenshot on the next page)
Lower-traffic forums may not be busy but with the few members they do have coming in
and out, your posts may get more visibility to smaller and more targeted group of
people.
So Iʼll let you decide what is best because you may pass up on a great forum that only
has a few hundred people logging in each day, but those people just might give you
more attention and the traffic you need to add to your siteʼs success.
Here are a few tips on deciding whether a forum is worth a possible membership from
you: Current Members, 24 Hour Traffic, Thread Count & Signatures/links
I like to see at least 100 members coming into a forum each day (every 24 hours). This
would be the absolute minimum (but it just may be a little low for some of you).
I also like to see at least 5,000 threads (again, this would be an absolute minimum and
you have to factor in your own variables as you go along).
Here is one such fishing forum that shows the minimum of 100 active members over a
24 hour period, a minimum thread count above 5,000 and plenty of older members
signed up from the past:
So all you need to do is open up a few threads and check out the posts. Do you see
signatures? Do you see links inside posts?
IMPORTANT: Just because a forum does not allow live links that are clickable, it
doesnʼt mean that you should skip that particular forum. If you are doing your job right
by posting very helpful information then readers will still be happy to COPY AND PASTE
your signature link in order to check out your site.
Here is a quick way to find out about signatures: Google search your forum + “signature
rules” (there may be other variations with the signature keywords but this one works
well most of the time). Then you click open and see what it says.
This particular page is from the forum I just posted in the image of above and describes
exactly what the rules are about forum signatures, like so:
When you sign up inside discussion forums the best thing you can do is establish trust
by creating a profile with your picture and as much accompanying information as you
are willing to share.
Now some of you might be going under an alias, which is fine. In fact, I know publishers
who are men but focus on feminine niches and post under an alias with a female name
and picture. This is purely up to you. Regardless, it is important to become an actual
“human being” and not just another anonymous member.
Allow me to be blunt:
Instead itʼs about building up your social circles (even if only a few) so that you can get
to a point where you attract everyone possible from forums, blogs, social hangouts, etc.
People spend countless hours on marketing forums asking questions, helping others,
sharing reviews - but then they come to their own niche and go blank for some reason.
Do what youʼve been doing in marketing forums and it should be easy and fun to
contribute in your niche forums (trolls and negative posters please ignore this rule, as
you have no place of benefit).
Let me help. Here is a little trick to getting as involved in as many posts with questions
as you possibly can, all coming from you as the “expert,” willing and ready to come to
someoneʼs rescue.
(You are going to slap yourself when you see how obvious this is.)
Now even though I may be educated about sewing and all kinds of tips and tricks, I
personally may not know the first thing about sewing leather.
So Iʼll search for the information, then use the info in my own words to help out this
original poster on the forum.
Donʼt write hundreds of one-liners just to inflate your post count. Itʼs best to give 10
VERY GOOD ANSWERS instead of 100 posts that go something like, “Hey, great post -
thanks for sharing!” (Youʼve seen these people all over IM forums).
(3) When Announcing A New Article, Do It With Respect & A Little Finesse
You may not yet be at the acceptance level socially to post something like, “Hey
everyone, check out my new article on the best hiking gear for the winter of
2012.”
Instead, you may have to actually provide content from your article or post some of the
highlights. Again, at first you cannot do this in most forums until you have created a
regular presence from helping people.
There is a fine line between spamming a signature and actually properly promoting a
business. Signatures can work extraordinary well if they are done correctly. Most people
do not have the right promotion and therefore lose a lot of potentially valuable online
real-estate.
It is extremely simple. Just tell readers how they will benefit if they came by your site.
And as a reminder, you cannot do this properly unless you have a subscriber box.
You can offer them a coupon, a free report, or any of the other ideas that I laid out for
you earlier in this course in: “Phase 11: Polish Your Site For Launch Prep” (Step 11).
Note: You may need to wait to do this until Google alerts come into your email box.
This would simply move blog commenting to your daily action plan checklist of work
tasks to wait for (I suggest to comment on at least 2-5 blogs per day if possible).
This would mean setting up your alerts now on this article, then waiting and maybe
commenting on a few blogs each day as they come up through the alerts. Itʼs a “mix-
n-match” type of thing that never really comes out perfectly on schedule.
Also, you may want to skip this step if you are not inclined to produce quality
comments on blogs that actually provide interesting content.
As a matter of fact, the same basic principles apply to blog commenting as they do to
making forum posts as I outlined in the previous step (make beneficial replies, offer
additional solutions, provide educational input on the topic, etc.).
That may or may not be a viable strategy these days for “link juice.” on itʼs own merit,
but I do believe that links still have a place in the search engine game. I personally
wouldnʼt advocate that you spend all of your time building links without the ability to
direct human visitors to actually come to your site through those links if possible.
(I know that Iʼm getting redundant on that point, but itʼs for good reason).
Anyways...
Personally, I view blog commenting as another way to get noticed, build real-life traffic
and plant more seeds that might get you picked up by other hero bloggers to be invited
to offer guest writing.
Please donʼt waste your time by reaching out on blog comments if you are just going to
post spammy messages. And even if you post “legit” messages but they come across
as spam (meaningless one-liners and such), then thatʼs still a waste of time!
The ultimate rule of thumb is to add as much value possible. Itʼs quite simple actually.
Value-based writing is exactly what Iʼve been talking about during this entire course!
Whenever I see a new blog post from sites that I am subscribed to, there is never a
moment when I donʼt check to see the first few comments. Be that guy or gal!
Try to be the first to leave a REALLY GREAT COMMENT on a high-profile blog. But it
must be a decent and helpful reply. If you have absolutely nothing worthwhile to say
then itʼs going to diminish your traffic-generation potential.
Simply subscribe to the RSS feed of all of your hero sites and bloggers, as well as
check your Google alert keywords as often as possible. To organize your feeds you may
use Google Reader or something similar.
Iʼve been prone to want to post 500+ words on some blog comments in the health
industry because Iʼm just that passionate about certain areas! But donʼt do this. Shorter
replies seem to gain more eyeballs from my experience.
Trust me, if I see a blog post right now on “Intermittent Fasting” in relation to body
composition and building muscle, I can pop out a 500 word reply in less than 5 minutes
because Iʼm excited and experienced in the area. But catch yourself here - keep it
simple and as short as possible SO LONG AS THE INFORMATION IS VALUABLE.
I guess what Iʼm trying to say is that if you need 500 words to make a reply, then fine.
Just try to shorten it up a bit if at all possible (PLEASE SEE THE NEXT TIP).
List posts to the rescue again! If you DO have a lot of information to write in a blog
comment then consider using a list-post outline (you know Iʼm big on these).
This will help break up your reply for easy reading. Large blocks of text are a turn off
these days and youʼll get more return for your commenting efforts in terms of eyeballs
and potential traffic.
Get more action going by asking a question, disagreeing with the article or filling in
missed information from the author.
• When you make a post, consider stirring up movement from the hero blogger
themselves (as well as from the other readers of the comments). You can do this by
asking a question. (When you ask a question is attracts a response, which invariably
brings more attention to your reply).
• You can also stir up movement by disagreeing with the article (if you are genuine).
When you do not agree with several points of someoneʼs content then it stirs people to
come in and reply to your comment with their right-minded views (just donʼt be a jerk).
• Then there is adding additional points missed by the author of the article. This is a
great way to really add value while giving the original author more ideas to consider for
his or her next post (or yours). Other readers are also prone to reply to your comment in
regards to being thankful for the additional information.
Last but not least, there is always the question over whether you should comment and
link on “No-Follow” blogs. Sure itʼs great if you can find 100% of your blogs to comment
on that are “Do-Follow” (which means the links are followed and credited to you by the
search engines. But in reality itʼs just not natural and could potentially hurt your site if
staying indexed and growing long-tail keyword rankings means something to you.
Besides, we are also going for networking, traffic and fan-building here (not just
dropping links). So yes, itʼs wonderful if a high-profile blog post gives you a Do-Follow
link opportunity, but also take the No-Follow links along with it. In fact, just donʼt
think about it.
You can waste your entire life away by creating accounts and trying to get traffic
on the never-ending social web 2.0 platforms out there.
However... It CAN be worth it if you only select a few (or less) of these social web
2.0 properties and really dig your teeth into them. But you must choose wisely or
not choose at all, which is just fine and does not block your success either way.
Another publisher that I will be interviewing this year earns double that amount and built
his audience up over a 3-year period by nothing but great content.
Only recently last year did he start his Facebook fan page and Twitter account.
In fact, he started with about 20 “friends” who themselves shared his excellent content
through their social circles. Right now heʼs got over 100,000 subscribers and spends
almost 100% of his time writing for the blog (no marketing).
During those 3 years he published great content on his site, built up fans and ended up
writing 2 books in his niche interest that sell like hot-cakes.
my advice
(1) First you need to really understand what type of people you are catering to in
your niche. What ages are they? What are the looking for? (Try to come up with a single
phrase that describes them). Then simple go where they are hanging out!
For example:
And this is where most publishers go wrong and completely waste their time. Instead
of focusing on their content and sticking to the basics they decide to focus entirely too
much energy on these other boards.
Let me remind you that I am not suggesting to skip all of this stuff, but instead I would
much rather you build up a presence on the minimum social areas to start, if at all. Your
content should be doing all of the work for you once you build up fans and subscribers
(let your readers spread the word about your articles and videos on their own time).
(3) If you do find social areas in which your niche audience is hanging out in (and
you feel that itʼs important to start dedicating your time and energy there), you can
simply spend a few minutes each day towards getting your content built up on these
locations.
Typically itʼs all about curating your own stuff onto these 2.0 sites as a way to funnel
traffic from the fans that are to be found there (as opposed to finding you on search
engines, Facebook, Twitter, Hero Sites, etc.).
And how do you go about deciding which areas to go and find your people in?
Thatʼs what will take a little sifting. However itʼs not hard to do. Here are my 3
suggestions:
• First, look at the most popular social areas and see if your type of people are there.
• Second, look to your hero publishers and see where they are getting popular at.
(Again, your hero site file comes to the rescue!)
• And third, how about just sticking to the basics for a while: Great content, Facebook,
Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, and let the other social 2.0 stuff take care of itself for a
while?
Donʼt believe me? Go here and read about this guy who started a business that was
launched from developing a large presence on Reddit:
Link: http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/nb8gs/i_am_the_creator_of_thisiswhyimbroke_amaa/
Anything goes in terms of content. Itʼs a huge buffet of people sharing all kinds of
information on virtually every subject out there.
But most of it is noise, with a small percentage being of the highest popularity from
posts that are funny, unique, cute, interesting, bold and just plain in-your-face at
times.
You can even find out from “Ignite stats” to better help your decision by checking out
Redditʼs demographics:
And here are some great niche areas that seem to be popular on Reddit:
For example, check out this image which has almost 300 “Repins” and caters to
Christmas decorations:
• Treat finding “pinners” just like you would with people on Facebook or Twitter. You
follow a specific board, make comments and re-pin their stuff and take a look at the
most popular pins for trends, etc.
• Honestly speaking, Iʼm not too excited about Tumblr because Iʼd rather focus on my
own siteʼs content. It is indeed a blog 2.0 platform. But you canʼt just treat it like hub
pages, wordpress or squidoo (In fact, the “Tumblr community” doesnʼt take kindly to
marketing tactics).
• Because many NON-Tumblr users see your content, they cannot reply or get updates
without signing up. Therefore, youʼll need to tweak your account by adding Discuss
comments and create category pages to highlight your best content (as non-users
cannot crawl for this either).
• The real key behind getting more targeted and faster traffic from Tumblr is by
providing content that people are already searching for. You check this by looking on
Tumblr by using “Tumblir Search” to find out whatʼs popular.
• Even though most stuff posted on Tumblr are short posts and images, longer posts
are suggested by the experts who Iʼve consulted with. The reasons are for better
rankings of those posts by search engines, more comments, more re-blogs and better
traffic to your site.
• And finally, if you are going to make the most out of Tubmlr then extra attention should
be paid to SEO (tags, image alt tags, XML sitemap, custom post URLs, etc.) Yep, itʼs
more work that may or may not be worth your time.
More Places...
I canʼt go on forever here listing the endless social boards that are popping up (a
few will stick, some will moderately get by, and others may drop out forever), but here
are a few additional “targeted” type of social areas where it gets more specific for a
particular niche area or group of people with the same interests:
(3) www.helparoundtown.com
(5) www.snapette.com
(6) www.taskrabbit.com
(7) www.gomiso.com
(8) www.stumbleupon.com
(10) www.keek.com
In Conclusion.........
There are TONS more social media 2.0 boards that I could go on about for another 30
pages if I tried, but I think that my overall message has gotten through to you. So in
closing I am going to suggest (again) the following plan of action for this stuff:
(1) If you are already on any of these social-type sites and are genuinely building up a
following and are loving it - then continue!
(2) If not, rather than diving into a bunch of social boards for the heck of it I would
suggest that you spend more time building up your content, subscribers and your
general social communication areas (Facebook, Twitter, etc.).
(3) Last but not least, if you DO plan on getting involved then try to go narrow in your
search for social boards to build upon. Take the examples above and find specific social
sites that cater to your very specific group of people if possible (your niche audience).
If youʼve known me for any length of time then you are probably aware that Iʼm not a big
fan of building a ton of links. I prefer to focus on the methods that work for traffic instead
of mechanically dropping links all over the place.
Besides, most link-building tactics are being further and further penalized by those crazy
animal updates that Google enjoys coming out with (Penguin & Panda to date).
But the good news is that you can still get away with a little extra link love so long as
you do things in a way that promotes yourself as a business and choosing a few
methods that can be done in the right light.
So now I am going to suggest that you pick none or more of the following 5 link
methods (plus your own) if you feel like doing the extra work.
Again - Iʼm a straight shooter and my honest opinion on the matter is that you do not
have to do EVERYTHING imaginable in order to promote yourself!
• Just your great content with curation links to hero sites was great.
• Just hitting those Google alerts and spreading your page around the net is fantastic
over time.
• Then there is all of the possible social links, 2.0 areas and word of mouth to spread.
• And lastly, my suggested weekly routine (in the next section) is full of great link
opportunities.
No Problem, I Totally
Understand!
• Link Rule #1: Always Vary Your Anchor Text & Use
Related Theme Words
It was EXACTLY what I was looking for; a total write-up about the routine as well as
input from the person who posted the content.
• Ranked for the document on the 1st page of Google (via Scribd).
• Got direct traffic from me.
• And I even bookmarked his site for future browsing!
(1) If you submit your document to more than 1 site (listed below), then consider
having a unique main keyword for each of them for more traffic possibilities. This help to
avoid triggering off any red flags in the search engines as “forced links.”
(2) To get more views and downloads, add a simple cover image to your
document.
(3) Donʼt forget to write up a bio and have live links to your website.
(4) Some document sharing sites allow affiliate links so be sure they are live if you
are promoting a product inside the document.
(6) And here is your document sharing site list. There are definitely more out there,
but these will do the job for now.
Videos are great but Iʼm going to tell right off the
bat that you should try to create entertaining and
content rich videos for additional traffic and fan-
building.
But you need to go about it in a way that gets people to want to watch more of your
videos if possible. Anyone can go out and drop video links but the smart publishers out
there add something extra to try to get video subscribers.
And that takes time, experience and confidence (all of this stuff does), so for now do
what you can and experiment with hiring people to make a video for you if need be.
In fact, check out this little gem of a service. Youʼve probably heard of them: Article
Video Robot. They not only create videos for you but they also distribute them to a ton
of social sharing sites.
Now this is just one of many services out there. Itʼs best to hunt around if you are not
into make your own videos. There is also: Traffic Geyser, TubeMogul & HeySpread.
• Always have a link to your website or the specific page you want your visitors to travel
to if they like the video. You can have this done verbally in the introduction and
watermarked at the bottom (like my videos have).
• Always research and add a long-tail keyword phrase for your video. However, you will
be able to rank higher for more competitive terms on videos if there are no other videos
ranking for the phrase, so reach with a littler higher of a goal.
• Once you have your videos posted, consider running a SYNND campaign on the
URLs of where they are posted in order to give them a boost. Again, Iʼm not saying that
all of this is necessary, just a few great suggestions to consider.
To distribute your video, always start with YouTube and create yourself a custom
channel if this is something youʼll be doing for a while. Many of you may not even want
Then move onto some of the other sites listed below for additional video exposure:
For a quick breakdown of “how” to best create podcasts I am going to direct you to a
simple set of instructions from a very cool website (youʼve probably heard of Mashable
before):
http://mashable.com/2008/11/28/how-to-convert-your-blog-into-a-podcast-on-itunes-for-free/
Here is your top 5 sites to submit to (more are out there, but these will do the job):
And again, it would be advisable to run a SYNND campaign or similar social signals to
these links if you so desire. This will help boost up the links for some additional
exposure.
www.flickr.com www.infographicsarchive.com
www.pinterest.com www.visualoop.tumblr.com
www.infographicsshowcase.com www.visual.ly
www.dailyinfographic.com www.coolinfographics.com
www.infographicjournal.com www.vizworld.com
Once you start sharing and uploading your infographics, be sure to treat that like a new
article and give it a tweet, Facebook shout, subscriber consideration, etc. Again, Synnd
might just come in handy here for social signals too.
When it comes to promotional tasks like press releases itʼs often best to just “do it” and
learn along the way. Yes mistakes will be made. Yes the content may not be great. Yes
youʼll have to “pay your dues,” so to speak from practice and experience.
So if money is tight and you cannot afford to hire a professional then youʼll have to
invest some time into learning the best approach to writing, formatting and submitting
your press release.
(A) First learn how to put together a press release (if you are writing it
yourself):
Head on over to Wiki (thanks Shane Melaugh for pointing this out to me) and study this
excellent tutorial on how to write a press release (they also have a great example and
video on the page):
http://www.wikihow.com/Write-a-Press-Release
(C) Now submit your press release to any of these free directories:
• Most press releases offer up to 3 links in the body of the content. Be sure to point
those links to your current article being promoted and also to other places on your
site (basically you donʼt want all links pointing to the same page on your site).
• If you are offered more links, donʼt use them! Just 2-3 links is fine. Remember that
you do not want to appear to be “forcing” links too much.
• With press releases it is important to use long-tail, keyword rich phrases. Consider
what you want to rank for. Maybe add some theme phrases if you like (LSI). Although
itʼs great to use non-keyword focused anchor text links in other linking tactics to appear
more natural (like “click here”), with press releases you want to take full advantage of
the maximum keyword optimization benefit (but without overdoing it).
• Think about your links and where they are pointing to. Try to plan a few steps ahead.
What do you want your readers to do if they follow the other links that are pointing
elsewhere on your site? Are you sending them to a subscription box, a video or an
additional article related to the press release topic?
• Use your main chosen keyword in the headline, the leading paragraph, and in your
links (vary the phrase for more than 1 link).
Iʼve personally used a service by a guy named Mickie Kennedy. Heʼs excellent at
providing a well-rounded service and Iʼve used him for nearly 10 press releases over the
years without a single issue or complaint.
He writes the actual release for you and promotes it through several packages. Mickie is
over at www.ereleases.com and also offers some excellent free material throughout
his site.

(Zoom In To Read)
Now itʼs called “Guest Blogging” or “Guest Posting” and itʼs catching on like wildfire. And
I have to agree!
Iʼm glad I was in the game before it became “trendy” (as I usually am).
Why? Because I can honestly compare my experience from the past to what happens
today. And Iʼm here to tell you that submitting articles on authority sites IS ONLY
GETTING BETTER!
With social taking over you get MUCH MORE ATTENTION to your content when the
authority site publishes your article. Today itʼs not just a “link” and some traffic. Now you
have your social icons allowing those readers to spread word around even further
(through their circles of friends, family and associates).
So here are the 6 brief, yet informative lessons on building up your power through guest
posting:
Once an article is published on a high volume authority site and then that article gets
the attention of the siteʼs viewers, fans and subscribers - you get an instant build up of
the 4 key elements that everyone and their mother online is looking for.
From the publisher that just wants Adsense clicks to the guy selling used crane parts,
“traffic, links, subscribers and loyal readers/customers” is the name of the game!
Lesson 2: How To Find Quality Hero Sites & Which Ones To Choose?
You havenʼt forgotten about your hero site file, have you?
(Remember that you should always be “collecting” new hero
sites).
Each time you open one of these sites up the first thing you
look for is a link on their navigation menu that says something
like: “Guest Writers,” or “Write For Us,” or “Submit An Article,” or “Become A
Contributor,” etc.
Simply click on those links and send them an email or fill out there application -
whatever they require for contact and submission. Simple as pie!
And as I suggested back in 2010, you can also do a Google or Bing search with these
phrases plus many seed variations of your niche. For example:
And donʼt be afraid to cold call these people! Whatʼs the worst that can happen? A no-
reply or even an annoying, “no thanks” wonʼt do a thing to hurt your confidence.
And hey, if you donʼt want to submit emails or make contact yourself then just HIRE
SOMEONE TO DO IT FOR YOU.
Thatʼs what I did back in the day. I had 1 person find sites and contact them with the
same email template that I would revise every few weeks with minor changes.
***Hot Tip: Create a unique email for each staff member so that you do not have to see
the rejections or the non-replies each day. You simply get forwarded the good stuff, the
“Sure thing, come write for us...” positive replies!
Always keep in mind the 80/20 rule! But I will add that the
percentage of success with traffic and links do tend to be a
LOT higher than 20% of your efforts with guest posting.
Back to the question... What do you do for promotion after the article is published?
1) Nothing: Sometimes you donʼt have to do anything. The publisher of the site will
have their own traffic coming into the article, reading it and with some of them visiting
your own site through your bio and links.
3) Somewhere In Between: And finally, you could simply pick and choose a few steps
to implement in order to get attention to the article. Itʼs all a matter of preference.
• Reply to all comments on the hero site of your specific article (very important).
• Say THANKS to the hero publisher for the opportunity (remind them to give attention).
• Ensure your subscription call to action is evident on the links back to your site.
• Always try to optimize those links with non-spammy keyword variations.
Donʼt be sad, it happens! But most of the time youʼll get every
guest post published without a problem. There are 2 things
you can do:
2) And if they ignore you or for some reason it doesnʼt work out, donʼt worry because
your second option is to just publish the content on your own site and treat it like a new
article! Thatʼs not so bad, right?
“How much content do I need to publish before I make $60,000 per year?”
• You could work a 7-10 day ratio plan. In other words, start
on Monday with your own article and do not stop until you
have finished publishing and running a full promotion plan of
that article.
Then you would spend the rest of the week submitting as many guest posts as possible.
So if it took you until Wednesday to finish your own article, you could then write 2-3
more guest post that could be finished by Sunday on up to Wednesday again.
• Or you could just run 1-3 guest posts per month. Some of you might not want to
entertain this amazing traffic generating tactic yourselves, but would still like to
outsource a few each month. Nothing wrong with that at all!
• And lastly, you could just SKIP IT altogether! Like I said in the beginning, all of this is
just advice. Take it or leave it. If you are personally better off not submitting articles to
other sites then youʼll do better in the long run.
Never, EVER do anything in this business if you are not excited and motivated to do it.
Youʼll be more successful and make MORE MONEY by not following the herd on every
single aspect of being a publisher so long as you are on control of your decisions.
1) For guys like me whoʼve been publishing since 2005, Iʼve built up my own personal
preferences so itʼs not hard to just say no to 99% of the suggested promotional
methods out there. So my job here is to ensure that you get the most bang for your
buck in regards to site promotion.
2) Second, itʼs impossible to list every single link method. Iʼm sure you could come
up with 200-300 more ideas if you wanted to by thinking outside the box (from both
online AND offline tactics). Iʼve got hundreds jotted down over the years and itʼs totally
impractical to do them all.
3) Third, I would be afraid that if I DID list them all, half of you would spend about 4
weeks trying to “build links” while missing the entire reason why you would be
successful as a publisher - creating content that links itself over time.

Why Yes I Do, Folks...
At the very last minute in releasing this book I thought
it would be nice to give you a few simple checklist
items that can further help guide you.
Some of you will reach these goals sooner than others. It depends on your schedule,
your drive, motivation, niche, products, Adsense... even your thoughts matter!
Always remember that how much MONEY you earn has nothing to do with reaching a
specific starting goal. That part is always up in the air. You could get lucky as hell in your
first 30 days and hit a few thousand dollars per month. Or it could take you a year to
build a base that could lead to 6-figures... YOU JUST NEVER KNOW!
(1) Follow at least 300 influential people and heros on Facebook & Twitter.
(5) Have up to 10 product reviews of popular items that people are buying.
(7) Have learned personal tracking with Keyword Strategy & Google analytics.
(8) Have had some of your own content curated on other blogs.
Important: All of this stuff was covered in the course as far as details are concerned,
but if you need clarification then please ask me and Iʼll be glad to help you personally,
as well as update the forum with additional info (and eventually on book updates).
Your 7-Day Launch Goals: Get Noticed, Get Links, Get Social...
(4) Set Up Google Reader to track RSS feeds of your hero sites (or Mac Reader).
(7) Sign up to 3 or more forums and write as many kick-ass helpful posts possible.
(9) Follow 100 people on Facebook & Twitter (Inspirational people/niche heroes).
(10) Share 20-30 cool things on Facebook & Tweet 20-30 cool things on Twitter.
(12) Pick 1 social web 2.0 hangout where your niche audience is & set up a profile.
(13) Start researching and collecting information for your 1st major article.
(3) Try to follow 1-5 new people each day on both Facebook & Twitter.
(5) Check and respond to all of your siteʼs comments (choose individual).
(6) Check and respond to all GUEST POST comments on hero sites.
(7) Try to contact 1-2 heroes (could be from curation, or just to compliment them).
(8) Make at least 1 blog comment to someone you want to know (more is better).
(12) Write down 1 thing OFFLINE that inspires you for future content.
(13) Write down 1 product that you might consider for a future affiliate review.
(14) Write your own content, anything... Even if itʼs 2 sentences on a Sunday night.
(15) Read at least 5 pages from an inspirational book (Self help or other).
(16) Visualize at least 15 minutes of your dream house, dream income, everything.
“Itʼs been years since I came online to start a business and Iʼve got nothing to show
for it other than an empty bank account.”
“Every month I keep buying into a push-button solution that seems to go nowhere, or
a course based on short-term advice that has me starting over month after month,
year after year.”
“I AM READY!”
So...
HOWEVER....
Building and maintaining a high quality authority site can be a lot of work. The process
can be slow. And most people quit because they only see a few dollars trickling in at
the beginning (before moving onto something else, only to be disappointed time and
again).
To succeed in life youʼve gotta stick it out when the going gets tough. But most of you
lose sight of that when things donʼt go right. And let me tell you, things will NEVER go
right all of the time!
(1) First of all, this plan caters mostly to people that are concerned that their sites
may not be making a lot of money (but you can fix that). In fact, sites are bought and
sold every week that values MORE than just income: traffic, links, subscribers, fan-
base, content (heavy on content), etc.
(3) There is no way to forecast how much you can sell this project for in the
beginning. You may have reached these goals (plus monthly income) in just 6 months
and cash out the same or more, or it could take the entire year or longer. The harder
you work and the longer you wait, the bigger the payout.
(4) Even if your site is making zero income, you could still sell it for a large
amount. As noted in #1 above, itʼs not just about the monthly income that makes a site
valuable (but of course the sale-value will be HIGHLY impacted by income).
(5) In addition to the value based on traffic, links subscribers, content, fans, etc.
you can count on multiplying your monthly income at that time by 12-24 months. This
means that a site earning $2,000 per month after the domain is 1 year old has the
opportunity to sell at $24,000 - $48,000 just on that $2,000 monthly income alone (then
you would add the additional value from the rest).
(6) Combined with the virtual real estate value of subscribers, links, etc. you are
looking at anywhere from $50,000 - $100,000 (or more) at the point of sale.
(1) This is by no means an “easy way out of work” type of thing. In fact, you
should work EXRA HARD. I see marketers flip crap all of the time for $500 - $1000 after
posting a site that has 10 articles and about a month of non-value backlinks. My
suggestion is to follow the advice in this blueprint and really put your heart and soul into
the project to earn with the 6-figure top dogs. Iʼve worked my ass off since 2005 online
and nothing ever came easy for me, even to this day. I work. I work. I work...
(2) The more affiliate products you have reviewed or making sales with, the better.
This means following the blueprint and building up your value by OUTSTANDING
content combined with GREAT AFFILIATE ARTICLES.
(4) Youʼll want to come across from a “non-personal angle of ownership” with the
site. Remember what we discussed earlier in the course about choosing whether you
will be anonymous or not. For this project you will want to remain somewhat “business
like” and not so much from the standpoint of, “Hey, This Is Tomʼs Blog” type of thing.
(5) Quality links (and SAFE) are important here. If you follow my advice and get
as many traffic roadways built up from links that actually SEND PEOPLE to your site,
then you will increase the value of the domain at the point of sale. A million shitty links
outsourced by someone for a penny-a-link will not be nearly as valuable as a few
hundred links with traffic coming from guest posting, forums, Facebook and word-of-
mouth (in may just devalue your site in the long run).
(6) Having Keyword Strategy will increase value. By having tracked ALL of your
information through Keyword Strategy as I have suggested, you are handing over all of
the extra statistical information on a golden platter besides Google Analytics.
(7) This would be a great time to put more work into building up subscribers
outside of your social areas like Facebook. Iʼve seen marketers (there was a course on
this at one point a couple of years ago) that spent time and money building up a list in
the sports niche and selling that list for about $20,000 after 4 months. Your list is
probably the next valuable thing aside from monthly income.
(8) Want to add even more value? Consider writing or having someone create a
product that you can highlight on your website. You should be doing this anyways if
publishing is your chosen business model. “Publishing” doesnʼt just stop at making free
articles online. Publishing means writing ANYTHING and if you can also sell an
information product then you are headed in a more lucrative direction. You donʼt have to
be selling a bunch of these products, but just to have it with the package helps
strengthen your sale value.
(9) Adsense: Buyers love to have profit immediately from purchasing a site like
this, so once your site is out of the gate and you are working hard donʼt be afraid to
(10) And finally, make it a goal to write 56 articles by the end of the year. And Iʼm
not talking about 56 $5 articles at 500 words with full-blown SEO built in. Iʼm talking
about 1 article per week, each with the advice given throughout this course (and in the
beginning of the “ultimate blog post action plan” that I wrote about).
Why 56?
Because it comes out to 1 article per week and if you are truly trying to build a
publishing business then I feel 1 weekly article is very doable for most people (and on
any schedule, whether you work a job or not).
For the best results, all you need is an average of $100 per month from each article.
That is VERY practical if done right. Please donʼt go forgetting everything Iʼve taught
you in this book on content, earning projections, 80/20 rule, etc.
And donʼt go getting worried if your articles donʼt start out making millions out of the
gate. Your focus is on THE BIG PICTURE... (not just those earnings numbers). Those
numbers will build themselves if you focus on the rest of the details.
