Pre-Writing Tasks

In module 2, we have discussed how to plan a composition using an outline and
other graphic organizers. In this module you will learn how to choose and use
‘appropriate graphic organizers for your pre-writing tasks.
In writing you don't just grab a bunch of things and put it on paper, there is an
order, and there are questions and steps to be made. Graphic organizers will help you
‘organize your thoughts in order, so that your essay will have a great flow that will keep
your readers engaged from start to finish.

also refer to prewriting as brainstorming, During this process, you will write down as
much information you know about the topic. In writing this information, you need to
use appropriate graphic organizers suited for each topic.
Graphic organizer is essential in prevariting process. It will help you organize
your thoughts and ideas before the actual writing. In our previous lesson, we have
discussed that graphic organizers are aids that show visual explanations of concepts
and relationships.

‘graphic organizers that can be used when pupils are preparing to write.

and details. Using outlines in pre-writing ensures that pupils discuss the
topic carefully by describing and providing details on each subtopics. Below

3. Venn Diagrams are useful when learners plan to compare and contrast set
ofideas. They help pupils to be able to visualize similarities and differences
Of topics. The information writen inside two overlapping circles is common
to both topics. The information written outside the overlapping area is

‘A sequence chart is a graphic organizer that helps visualize the order
of sleps of a process or a timeline of events. This is best used if the topic
you are writing involves historical events, stages, steps and processes.
