ACTIVITY 1 – ULTRASOUND HISTORY

NAME: Jose Angelo Tolentino

DATE: 10/12/2022

INSTRUCTIONS:

*Make a timeline on the historical development and application of Ultrasound in

medical imaging (Your submissions should be in the format of a timeline flowchart).

Application of Ultrasound in medica imaging

is an ultrasound-based imaging procedure used to look for pathology or lesions in subcutaneous

body structures such as tendons, muscles, joints, vessels, and internal organs. Sonography is useful for
imaging the body's soft tissues.

ACTIVITY 2: BIOLOGICAL EFFECTS AND RISKS OF ULTRASOUND
APPLICATION
NAME: Jose Angelo Tolentino

DATE: 10/12/2022

INSTRUCTIONS: Do research and answer the following question/s.

* Does exposure to ultrasound cause biological damage?

Yes, ultrasound energy has the potential to produce biological effects on the body. High levels of
exposure to ultrasound can cause damage to the biological tissues of the patient. Ultrasound may also
damage the tissue of the patient because of excessive thermal effects, that is seen in higher ultrasound
intensities.

* What are the risks of ultrasound exposure from diagnostic applications?

Ultrasound imaging uses sound waves to view inside the body. The images produced in ultrasound
are the reflection of the waves off the body structures. Unlike X-ray that produces radiation, there is no
ionizing radiation associated with ultrasound imaging. The long-term consequence of the effect of
ultrasound is still unknown. Ultrasound exposure producing a temperature increase greater than or equal to
41 °C for 5 min or longer is potentially dangerous.
