Removing Personal Protective Equipment

• To remove personal protective equipment, untie the string of the gown at the waist first.

• Next, remove and dispose the gloves.

• Remove the first glove by turning it inside out. Place the rolled-up glove in the second hand, and then
remove the second glove by slipping one finger under the glove edge and pulling the glove off.

• Perform hand hygiene.

• Untie the gown at the neck and remove by pulling down from the shoulders.

• Turn the gown inside out and pull the arms out of the gown.

• Dispose the gown in the proper garbage can, disposable bag, linen hamper, or according to your
facility’s guidelines.

• Remove protective eyewear and mask and dispose them.

• Perform hand hygiene again.
