How Emotions Influence Decision Making

With the right techniques, you could achieve lasting change with half the effort.
Many people fight the same battle every day, and this battle is between logic and emotion.
Logically, I know I should get up early. I know I shouldn’t eat cake. I know I should get
up early and go to bed early. I know sitting on the sofa watching a movie late at night
won’t advance my career, yet I still do it over and over again. This leads to a flow of
negative thinking. I’m a loser. I’m weak. I’m not worthy.
No. You’re not a loser or weak. You weren't taught a universal truth, so let me share it
with you now.
When logic and emotion are pitted against each other, emotion always, always wins. We
feel scared or dizzy when looking down from a high enclosed building. Our logic knows
that we’re safe, we’re protected, we won’t fall — but the emotions still make the stomach
lurch.
Because the emotion that your subconscious mind rejects overrules logic.
“You will continue to suffer if you have an emotional reaction to everything that’s been
said to you. True power is sitting back and observing things through logic.” ~Bruce Lee.
Why Do We Feel Emotions?
We all have emotional responses, and we react to them in different ways. Emotions play
an important role in shaping our personalities. With emotions, we can experience the
colors of the world; without them, this world would be just black and white.
Emotions allow us to:
Make decisions.
Avoid dangers.
Observe other people.
Be empathetic to others.
Give awareness.
How To Balance Logic and Emotion
Create a Better Image of Emotion:
It is possible to win logic over emotion by creating a better image of emotion.
Here’s an example:
You’re scared to ask for a pay rise. You fear he will laugh or insult you. You can make a
better image by thinking: If I show my boss what I have done, and how valuable I’m, the
result might be different. Change the emotion to believing I’m wonderful, I’m worthy and
I’m enough.
Even if I face rejection, I’m exactly where I’m. I lost nothing. Except I have been brave
and courageous to take action.
You can make your life phenomenal and extraordinary by always using a better image of
emotion to defeat emotion. Pleasant emotions excite the imagination. And imagination
loves to be excited.
Stay Calm:
Be calm in the heat of the moment and let things pass. Stand tall. If you realize you are
being provoked by anger, refrain from speaking up. Be silent rather than say something
inappropriate. Allow the moment to pass, and speak after the situation has cooled down.
Consider All Potential Consequences:
We tend to forget one important aspect of our decision-making process; it is that whatever
we do has consequences. By understanding this phenomenon, you can accomplish a lot.
The next time you face a battle between emotion and logic, make emotion stronger and
more powerful. That way, you can win again and again. If you use a stronger, more
compelling emotion, you’ll get everything you want — and perhaps even more.
When you use powerful affirmations every day, you can transform your life and achieve
lasting changes. You can become the person you want to be and live the life you always
dreamed of.
