The Mouse Deer and the Tiger

A long time ago, deep in the jungle, lived a small and smart mouse deer. He wasn’t afraid of the
predator who wanted to eat him. One day, a hungry tiger was wandering around and craving for
food. While he was walking, he saw the mouse deer and wanted to eat him.

The tiger slowly approached the mouse deer. When he was on ideal range, he pounced on him,
“Gotcha! Hello, mouse deer! I am really hungry. You will be my lunch!” said the tiger.

The deer didn’t want to be his lunch. So he tried to be calm and looked around. He saw some
buffalo’s dung and an idea came to his mind, “I’m really sorry, tiger. I can’t be your lunch. The
king has ordered me to guard his cake right now,” said the deer calmly. “His cake?” asked the
tiger curiously. “Yes, there it is. It’s the most delicious cake on earth, so he doesn’t want anyone
else eat it,” the deer pointed the buffalo’s dung.
“Can I have some?” asked the tiger. “No, you can’t. He would be very angry to me,” the deer
refused. “Just one little bite, the king will never know,” said the tiger. “Well, okay. But you have
to let me go first, so the king won’t blame me,” said the deer. “All right, you can go now,” the
tiger said. The mouse deer ran quickly out of his sight.

The tiger then took a big mouthful of the buffalo’s dung. “Phoeey!” he spat it out. “Yuck! That’s
not cake. That’s buffalo’s dung!”

The tiger ran through the jungle. He caught up with the mouse deer, “Hey, you tricked me. But
now you will be my lunch.”

The mouse deer looked around and saw a big wasp nest in a tree. “I’m sorry, tiger. I can’t be
your lunch now. The king has ordered me to guard his drum,” said the mouse deer calmly. “His
drum?” the tiger said curiously. “Yes, there it is. It has the best sound on earth” the deer pointed
the wasp net.

“Can I hit that?” the tiger asked. “Of course you can’t. He would be very angry,” said the mouse
deer refused. “Just one little hit, please! He will never know,” begged the tiger. “All right then,
but you have to let me go first, so he won’t blame me,” said the deer. “Okay, you can go now.”
The mouse deer ran quickly out of his sight.

The tiger then climbed up and hit the nest. Bzzzzz…! “Ouch! Ouch! It’s not a drum. It’s a wasp
nest!” The tiger ran away and jumped in a river. He stayed underwater until the wasps went
away.

After the tiger managed to escape from the wasps, then he ran through the jungle to find the
mouse deer. “Hey, mouse deer, you have tricked me twice, but now you will end up being my
lunch.”

The mouse deer looked around and saw a sleeping python coiled around a tree branch. “I’m
sorry, tiger. I can’t be your lunch now. The king has ordered me to guard his belt,” said the
mouse deer calmly. “His belt?” asked the tiger curiously. “Yes, there it is. It’s the most
comfortable belt on earth,” the mouse deer pointed the python.
“Can I wear it?” asked the tiger. “Of course you can’t. The king would be very angry,” said the
deer refused. “Just for one moment, please! He will never know,” begged the tiger. “Well, all
right. But you have to let me go first, so he won’t blame me,” said the mouse deer. “All right,
you are free to go now.” The mouse deer ran quickly out of his sight.

Then the tiger took the python and started to wrap it around of himself. The python woke up and
slowly squeezed and bit him. Sssstt! “Ouch, ouw! Ouw! It’s not a belt, it’s a python! Mouse
deer! Help me!” But the mouse deer was already far, and once again he was safe from that
hungry tiger.

The Mouse Deer and the Crocodile

Mouse deer was the most ingenious animal. He had a lot of sense to solve the problems. The
animals in the woods often looked for him for a help when they got into trouble. Although he
was a smart animal, but he was not arrogant and it made him having so many friends.

One day, he was looking for food outside the forest. It was the dry season so that the food in the
forest was reduced. Mouse deer had to walk so far under the heat of the sun. Because he was so
thirsty, he pulled into a river to relieve thirst of his throat.

After he drank the water in the river, the deer proceeded to walk down the river. After walking
for more than an hour, deer found a fruit garden. However, it was across the river so that the deer
had to swim to cross the river which was so wide.
As said previously that he was a very intelligent animal and has a solution for every problem.
When he was thinking about how to cross the river, he saw a bunch of crocodiles were basking
near the river. Sunbathing was the habit of the crocodile and they always did that every day.

When looking at crocodiles, he got an idea. He then approached a sleeping crocodile and said
“Hi my friend, how are you today?”

Crocodile replied, “I am good my friend, what makes you come here?”

“I bring a very good news for all the crocodiles in the river.” Said the deer.

The crocodile then was curious and asked again, “what news you want to say my friend?”

He replied, “I was ordered by the King Sulaiman to count all the crocodiles in this river, King
Sulaiman wanted to give a gift to all of you.”

After hearing what was said by deer, crocodiles eventually ordered all his friends to line up on
the river. Meanwhile, the deer could cross the river by pretending to count the number of all the
crocodiles.

A few minutes later, the deer came across the river, and the crocodile collect their promise,
“Mouse Deer, you have calculated all the amount of crocodiles that are here, now give us the gift
that promised by King Sulaiman.”

Instead of giving gifts, deer said “I forgot that the promised gifts have been given to the
crocodiles in another river.”

Hearing what the deer said, all crocodiles in the river was very angry. They were so revenge on
the deer and vowed not to release the deer if they met some day.
