GE 4 Contemporary World
Assignment No. 1

1. Craft your own personal definition of globalization based on how you have
experienced it. Relate your definition to your outputs about depicting the
contemporary world.
- Globalization refers to the increasing interdependence of the world's
economies, cultures, and populations as a result of cross-border trade in
commodities and services, technology, and investment, people, and
information flows. Our cultures, ideas, and economic exchange are
becoming increasingly global. This indicates that we will and should
increasingly regard ourselves as members of a single global community
and race, such as species and humans. Prejudices, as well as the pursuit
of national and personal self-interest at the expense of others, are
impediments to realizing this ideal. We will eventually acknowledge the
necessity for adequate international norms and governance to prevent
conflict, regulate some forms of trade, safeguard certain human rights,
protect the environment, and combat crime. Whatever the representatives
of the world's contentious forces may say or do, the interconnectedness of
the world's peoples and nations is already a reality. Its economic unity is
now well understood and acknowledged. To different people, globalization
means different things. Economists see it as the first step toward a fully
connected global market. Some political scientists see it as a move away
from the state's traditional definition.

2. What is the difference between globality and globalism?

- Globalism differs from globalization in that it is an ideology founded on the
concept that people, information, and goods should be able to freely
traverse national borders, whereas globalization is the spread of
technology, products, information, and jobs between states. Though
globalism and globalization appear to have similar connotations at first
look, they are two distinct concepts. Globalization is the process of
increased interconnection between people and locations around the world,
whereas globalism is the philosophy that drives globalization.
Furthermore, in terms of nature, globalization entails more interconnection
between people and locations around the world, whereas globalism is the
intellectual component of globalization.
