1.5 Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE)

All waste electrical and electronic products must be disposed of separately from the
municipal waste stream via designated collection facilities appointed by the government
or the local authorities. The WEEE label (see Figure 1) is applied to all such devices.

Figure 1 WEEE label

Preface

The correct disposal and separate collection of waste equipment will help prevent poten-
tial negative consequences for the environment and human health. It is a precondition
for reuse and recycling of used electrical and electronic equipment.
For more detailed information about disposal of such equipment, please contact Drag-
onWave.
The above statements are fully valid only for equipment installed in the countries of the
European Union and is covered by the directive 2002/96/EC. Countries outside the
European Union may have other regulations regarding the disposal of electrical and
electronic equipment.

1.6 RoHS compliance

Harmony Radio complies with the European Union RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU on the
restriction of use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment.
The directive applies to the use of lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, poly-
brominated biphenyls (PBB), and polybrominated diphenylethers (PBDE) in electrical
and electronic equipment put on the market after 1 July 2006.

Harmony Radio complies with the Chinese standard SJ/T 11364-2006 on the restriction
of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. The
standard applies to the use of lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybro-
minated biphenyls (PBB), and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) in electrical and
electronic equipment put on the market after 1 March 2007.

1.7 Safety instructions

In this paragraph are indicated all the safety rules and the precautionary measures to
follow while carrying out operations on the equipment in order to prevent injuries to per-
sonnel and/or damages to the equipment components.

t PLEASE READ THESE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS!

1.7.1 RF Energy Health Hazard

This symbol indicates a risk of personal injury due to radio frequency exposure.
The radio equipment described in this guide uses radio frequency transmitters.
No one shall be allowed to come in the close proximity of the antenna's front while the
transmitter is operating. The antenna will be professionally installed on the outdoor per-
manent fix-mounted structures in order to keep it separate from any other antenna and
from everybody else.

Issue: 1 Issue date: June 2013
Preface

f WARNING!
RF Energy Exposure Limits and Applicable Rules for 6-38 GHz. It is recommended that
for each radio equipment deployment site the radio equipment operator refers to the RF
exposure rules and precaution for each frequency band and to all other applicable rules
and precautions with respect to transmitters, facilities, and operations that may affect
the environment due to the RF emissions.
Appropriate warning signs must be properly placed and affixed at the equipment site and
access entries.

1.7.2 Protection against Lightning

Article 810 of the US National Electric Department of Energy Handbook 1996 specifies
that radio and television lead-in cables must have adequate surge protection at or near
the point of entry to the building. The code specifies that any shielded cable from an
external antenna must have the shield directly connected to a 10 AWG wire that
connects to the building ground electrode.
Do not turn on power before reading product documentation. This device has a -48 VDC
direct current input.

1.7.3 Protection from RF Burns

It is dangerous to stare into or stand in front of an active antenna aperture. Do not stand
in front of or look into an antenna without first ensuring that the associated transmitter
or transmitters are switched off. Do not stare into the waveguide port of an ODU (if appli-
cable) when the radio is active.

1.7.4 Warning – Turn off all power before servicing

f WARNING!
Turn off all power before servicing.

2.1 Overview
This document describes the sequence of steps to be adopted in order to install a site
with Hub+Harmony Radio(P) SVR 2.7 Network Elements.
The supported Hubs are listed in Table 4.

Supported IDUs Abbreviations

Harmony First Mile 200 R2.5 FM200
Harmony Hub 800 R2.5 Hub 800

Table 4 Supported IDUs

In case of the usage of NON-DragonWave IDUs, the ODUs must be configured connect-
ing directly the management PC, either via CT or (in this case better) with the WebLCT
just to avoid to use two different tools. In these scenarios the powering of the ODUs
should be already in place without the P+E support.
With the Harmony Radio(P) SVR 2.7 the System Types in Table 5 are available:

two different behaviours according to the type of IDU which the Harmony Radio is con-
nected to:
• HW Protection “CCM based”: for interoperability with IDUs which support the pro-
tection mechanism (Harmony FM200 and Harmony Hub 800).
• HW Protection “Standalone”: for interoperability with a generic L2 Bridge which
implements Learning, Forwarding and Filtering.

t The Harmony Radio can be connected to any port of the IDU.

If the Harmony Radio is connected to IDU port 0/3 or port 0/4, the P+E solution can be
used: only one cable connects the ODU to the IDU. This solution has been used in the
procedure given in this document.
If the Harmony Radio is connected to any other port, two solutions can be provided:
1. with a Power Injector: only one cable connects the ODU to the Power Injector;
2. without a Power Injector: two cables connect the ODU to the IDU.
For all the possible connection solutions refer to the Harmony Radio HW Install docu-
ment.

t Keep the IDU-ODU cables disconnected from the IDU till necessary in the procedure.

t If no DCN Planning configuration is available (or Stand alone Link) it is suggested to

configure on the equipment the following IP addresses.

Antenna alignment

9 Antenna alignment
1 Before starting with the alignment phase, verify the ATPC and the Adaptive Modu-
lation in both terminal stations are disabled.

t After the antenna alignment reconfigure the ATPC and the Adaptive Modulation
as the project requirements.

Verify also that the Transmission power is configured with the maximum output
power.
The Nominal setting values depend on the frequency range. Apply this setting in
both stations.
By properly using the safety device and observing the security rules, climb near
the Harmony Radio and connect the Multimeter on the main Harmony Radio to the
BNC connector.

t It is not compulsory but for antenna pointing it is suggested to use an analog multi-
meter.

The multimeter must be connected in DC voltage measure.

Start with the antenna adjustment following the indication reported in the installation
manual of the antenna supplier.

t Take care that the antennas alignment procedure is not a single station activities,
but require a synchronizing tasks between Installation Team on both terminal sta-
tions. The alignment operations must be possible only after that all above system
configuration and controlling are done also on the remote terminal station. For the
mechanical antennas adjustment points, refer to the installation documentation
supplied by the antennas supplier.
A general alignment procedure is available on request.

After the alignment verify on both terminal station and for all RF channels, that the
Received power level agrees with the project specification. (See the RSL value
on the Status Bar of the Web Interface).

t The update and refresh time of RSL value on Status Bar are slow, don't use only this
Item for the antennas adjustment phase, but it is suggested to use the multimeter on
BNC ODU port and refer to the Maximal Voltage value received. Afterwards read the
RSL value.

t For RSL, consider a Prx read value tolerance of about ±3 dB.

Antenna alignment

Figure 34 Example BNC Connection on Harmony Radio

The alignment steps and antennas pointing mode depend on the system type and
project specifications.
See the examples below.
In case of XPIC system types refer also to paragraph 9.1 Polarization plane align-
ment and check of the XPD value on page 195.

t In 1+1 configuration it is reccommended to force the active channel on the ODU with
the Main role in both stations and get the relevant RSL reference values (only for
antenna adjustment operations) from the Main ODUs. This operation must be done
because typically the 1+1 hot standby system uses an unbalanced coupler and RSL
on the protection ODU should be lower than the main ODU.

After the antennas adjustment operation to be reconfigure all in automatically mode.

tion

t After the antenna alignment reconfigure the ATPC and the Adaptive Modulation
as the project requirements.

2 Then go to chapter 10 Hop checks on page 197.

9.1 Polarization plane alignment and check of the XPD value

Follow the here below procedure (considering 30 dB XPD antennas using integrated
OMT) to check the correct antenna alignment and the polarization alignment in both sta-
tions.
1 Use the spirit level and set the raw polarization alignment on station A.
2 Use the spirit level and set the raw polarization alignment on station B.
3 Keep only one ODU powered-on on the station A (e.g. Horizontal Polarization ODU)
with nominal Tx power.
4 Power-off of the other ODU in station A (e.g. Vertical Pol ODU).
5 Power-on both ODUs in station B.

A250DW-A1600-D040-01-76P1 195
Issue: 1 Issue date: June 2013
Antenna alignment

6 Use the azimuth/elevation screws in the alignment unit of station B and find the “rel-
ative max” RSL for the same polarization ODU (e.g Horizontal Pol ODU) as
described in the HW install manual in the CuDo; it is possible not to be able to read
the planned RSL value at this step if polarization is not fully aligned, this is the
reason for considering the “relative max” RSL.
7 In the same station B check if the cross polarized ODU (e.g. Vertical Pol ODU) is
receiving an RSL value <= “relative max X-pol RSL” - 27dB (because of antenna
XPD minus 3 dB).
8 If this RSL is higher, in station B loosen the bolts between antenna and OMT and
slightly rotate the OMT till the difference between the two local RSL values is circa
27 dB or better.
9 Re-tighten the bolts between the antenna and OMT in station B.
10 Verify again that the difference between the two local RSL values is circa 27 dB or
better.
11 Repeat the same procedure from step 3 to step 10 in the opposite station.
Iterate the procedure of aligning the antennas and the polarization till:
• The RX input level meets the planned values in both stations.
• When having one single ODU on in one station, the difference between the RSL of
the two ODU in remote station is circa 27 dB or better, equals the actual XPD of the
antenna (>=30 dB) minus 3 dB of average interaction of the two dual polarization

failed Harmony Hub 800 or FM200

11.1 Overview
This chapter gives the swap & repair procedures to replace a failed equipment and to
restore the normal operating conditions of the radio hop.
Different cases can be taken in consideration:
• Replacement of a failed Harmony Radio:
• paragraph 11.2.1 Replacement of any Harmony Radio directly connected to the
IDU or the co-located Harmony Radio on page 200
• paragraph 11.2.2 1+1 HOT STAND BY without the ODU-ODU cable on page
204
• paragraph 11.2.3 Replacement of a failed Harmony Radio in Nx(1+0) DD
System Type on page 206
• Replacement of a failed First Mile 200 (paragraph 11.3 on page 238)
• Replacement of a failed Harmony Hub 800 (paragraph 11.4 on page 238)

11.2 Replacement of a failed Harmony Radio

11.2.1 Replacement of any Harmony Radio directly connected to the IDU or

the co-located Harmony Radio

f This procedure also applies, if the co-located ODU is directly connected to the
IDU.

f This procedure does not apply to 1+1 HOT STAND BY without ODU-ODU cable.
For this System Type refer to paragraph 11.2.2 on page 204.

11.2.2 1+1 HOT STAND BY without the ODU-ODU cable

t If the ODU to be replaced is powered by the PS cable, it is recommended to connect to

such ODU by using the IDU-ODU cable to avoid IDU settings and therefore Steps 1-4
must be skipped.

Steps
1 The faulty unit is replaced by a new ODU set to default.
2 All the foreseen physical connections are done.
3 The new ODU is powered up.
4 In order to reach the new ODU, all the necessary configurations are done on the
IDU, and PC.

t If IDU is not present, the Management PC must be connected directly to GE port of

the ODU stand alone. This is possible only in case of "Direct Power". In this case,
the user can skip Step 4b) to 4d) and 7a) to 7b).

t The ODU replacement/swap procedure described below is supported from

Harmony Hub 800 R2.0EP2, FM200 R2.0EP2 and FM200i R2.0EP2.
For previous IDU releases or other type of IDU the ODU must be powered by Power
Injector or PSU cable and it must be configured in standalone mode connecting
ODU directly to PC.

t The following steps (4a) to 4d)) describe the operations to be performed in the IDU
(taking Harmony Hub 800 R2.0EP2 as an example) with the IDU WebLCT. For other
releases or other type of IDU, the procedures are similar.

a) Set an "Arp entry" in the Management PC issuing this command in the OS

command line:
arp 192.168.255.3 00-90-ae-c7-04-c9
b) Connect the Management PC equipped with WebLCT to the reserved DCN port
of the IDU. Log into WebLCT.
c) Go to Protection > E-CCM > E-CCM Configuration tab. Select the entry of the
port, where the replacement will take place and click Disable Cci to disable the
E-CCM on the port.
d) Go to NE management > Management VLAN > Management Vlan Interfaces
tab. Click the entry of the related LPG and click ODU Swap. The ODU Swap
window pops up. Select the port in Member port and click Set UnTag.

mony Hub 800 or FM200

t Do not close this window otherwise the port will be set to Restore automatically.

5 The new ODU is reachable by using the default IP address (192.168.255.3)

6 Configure the public IP address and management VLAN with the values of the
previous replaced ODU via WebLCT in menu Status&Config > Networking.

7 The configurations changed at point 4 (4a), 4c), 4d)) have to be restored.

The following steps (7a) to 7c)) describe the operations to be performed in the IDU
(taking Harmony Hub 800 R2.0EP2 as an example) with IDU WebLCT. For other
releases or other type of IDU, the procedures are similar.
a) Turn back to the WebLCT and click Restore in the ODU Swap window to set
the port in Tag mode.

b) Enable the E-CCM on the port in E-CCM Configuration tab.

c) Delete the previous configured Arp entry in the Management PC (if created per-
sistent)
arp -d 192.168.255.3
8 Upgrade to the customer required SW release.
9 Load the needed license.
10 Configure all the ODU parameters, included the change of the system type:
• if a backup file of the configuration is available, perform the relevant restore
operation;
• otherwise, configure all the parameters as described in Chapter 5 ODU on page
99.
