LAW UNIVERSITY
SYNOPSIS
ECONOMIC FACTORS
Every year almost 32,000 juveniles fall into delinquency which makes up to 7.2% of all
crimes committed in our country inclusive of all ages. This huge number of children falling
into such acts of conflict with the law has grave consequences for both individuals and
society. On one hand, a victim ends up on the receiving end, and on the other, a juvenile lets
go of so much of future potential full of growth that he/she might have attained if not for the
crime they indulged in at a point in life which can have a severe impact on your personality
and your acceptance and integration into the society. Maybe it is because of the lack of
existing opportunities which create a lack of opportunity cost for these juveniles before
stepping into delinquency, or maybe it’s the poor conditioning and parenting via the parents
and other influences in their lives that contribute to their delinquent tendencies. Most
probably it is the product of both and some other nuances as well which result in such cases
of children finding themselves in conflict with the law. This project aims to understand what
is juvenile delinquency, its causes, and what can be done about this societal menace.
METHODOLOGY
The method to conduct the study would be to analyse the existing literature, studies, and
empirical data available on juvenile delinquency, the motive is to try and draw inferences
regarding what is it that leads a child into delinquency and what can be done to ameliorate the
problem. Data across different aspects will be taken into account to see if there’s and
connection and pattern in child delinquency, data will be of the sociological and economic
background of these children, including their literacy level, family income, etc.
