Section 1: Adjustments

Tension of the BELT for the STEPPER MOTOR


Adjustment Specification
Purpose: To adjust the BELT to the correct tension.
Specification: The tension is 5 in.-lb and the deflection is 0.79 mm (1/32 in.).
Special Tools: SPRING SCALE TL3419

Prerequisites:
None

To Check:

0.79 mm BELT
(1/32 in.)

[1] Press down on the BELT.


[2] Check that the deflection of the BELT is 0.79 mm (1/32 in.).

[1] Loosen the 2 SCREWS.


[2] Connect the SPRING SCALE to the BELT IDLER.
[3] Pull up on the SPRING SCALE until the tension is 5 in.-lb.
[4] Tighten the 2 SCREWS.
[5] Disconnect the SPRING SCALE.
[6] Make a test print to check for correct operation.

Serial Number for the IP BOARD


Adjustment Specification
Purpose: To display correct data.
Specification: The IP BOARD is set to the serial number displayed on the DATA PLATE.
Special Tools: DIAGNOSTIC TOOL

Prerequisites:
None

To Check:
[1] Record the serial number located on the DATA
PLATE on the REAR PANEL.

[3] Check that the serial number in the “Printer serial
no” field is the serial number you recorded in
Step 1.

Prerequisites:
[1] Do the adjustment for the “Voltage for the POWER SUPPLY” on Page 10.

[3] Connect:
• red PROBE to a red wire on the 14-PIN CONNECTOR on the POWER CONDITIONER BOARD
• black PROBE to any black wire on the 14-PIN CONNECTOR on the POWER CONDITIONER BOARD
[4] Check that the voltage is set to the specification on the LABEL on the THERMAL HEAD.

To Adjust:
[1] Rotate R16 until the voltage is at the specification on the LABEL on the THERMAL HEAD.
[2] Make a test print to check for correct operation.

[5] Loosen the 2 SCREWS for the PLATEN AY.
[6] Rotate the CAM clockwise 2 times. Stop when the DETENT is down.
[7] Tighten the 2 SCREWS for the PLATEN AY to 25 - 30 in.-lb.
[8] Open the TOP COVER.
[9] Remove:
• 2 SCREWS
• 2 V-BLOCKS
[10] Check that the THERMAL HEAD is aligned with the PLATEN ROLLER.

Resistance of the SNUBBER AY


Adjustment Specification
Purpose: To adjust the resistance of the SNUBBER AY.
Specification: The resistance of the SNUBBER AY is 0.75 - 1.0 lb.
Special Tools: SPRING SCALE TL3419

To Check:
[1] Remove:
• TOP COVER - See Page 18.
• RIGHT PANEL - See Page 23.

[2] Insert the RECEIVER into the opening for the CUTTER AY.
[3] Rotate the CAM SHAFT until the DETENT is toward the front of the PRINTER.
[4] Connect the SPRING SCALE to the RECEIVER.
[5] Pull on the SPRING SCALE to check that the resistance of the SNUBBER AY is 0.75 - 1.0 in.-lb.

To Check:
You cannot check this adjustment.

To Adjust:
[1] Remove the TOP COVER. See Page 18.

TOOL ENCODER and the LIVE CENTER.
[3] Check that the TAB on the ALIGNMENT TOOL is
up.
[4] Close the TOP COVER.

[5] Wait approximately one minute.
[6] Close the TOP COVER when the parts are dry.

[4] Remove the paper from the back of the CLEANING CARD.

[5] Move the LEVER to the “unlocked” position.


[6] Lift the PAPER SHROUD.
[7] Insert a CLEANING CARD between the left NIP ROLLER and left CAPSTAN ROLLER with the adhesive side
up.
[8] Move the LEVER to the “locked” position.
[9] Slowly pull the CLEANING CARD from between the ROLLERS.
[10] Move the LEVER to the “unlocked” position.
[11] Lift the PAPER SHROUD.
[12] Insert a CLEANING CARD between the left NIP ROLLER and left CAPSTAN ROLLER with the adhesive side
down.
[13] Move the LEVER to the “locked” position.

Additional Service Procedures

[14] Slowly pull the CLEANING CARD from between the ROLLERS.

Note
• You might have to do Step 5 - Step 14 more than one time to clean the ROLLERS fully.
• More than one CLEANING CARD might be necessary.
[15] Do Step 5 - Step 14 again with the right NIP ROLLER and right CAPSTAN ROLLER. Use another CLEANING
CARD.
