Final Perineal Preparation (DR)


Objectives :
1. To remove normal perineal secretions and odors.
2. To prevent contamination of birth canal.

Materials:
antiseptic solution 10%

water at comfortable temperature

Preparation:
Assess for the presence of odor or excessive discharge.
Review the client’s record and orders to determine exactly what procedure will be
performed
Scrub hands for at least 3 minutes
Assemble equipment
Prepare patient.

Draping at the Delivery Room


Definition:
Procedure of covering patient and surrounding areas with a sterile barrier to create and
maintain an adequate sterile field during delivery.

Objective:
Sterile drape is used for delivery to prevent introduction of microorganisms into the
uterus.

Materials:

abdominal drape
1 pair of leggings

Preparation:
Ensure that area to be draped is dry.
