I. Introduction
This reading material is intended for level 1 readers. Using this reading material,
the learners will be able to read the alphabet and produce its sound. Learners can be
able to give the beginning sound of the words and the pictures presented.
Furthermore, they will be able to determine the meaning of the words using the
pictures presented.

II. Objectives
Level 1
• Read the alphabets of English EN2AK-If-g-1
• Give the beginning sound of each consonant (s) EN2AK-IIIa-1.1
• Name the pictures that begin its name with a particular consonant
EN2AK-IIIa-c-1.2
• Give the beginning consonant sound of the name of each picture
EN2AK-IIIa-c-4
• Produce speech sounds (sounds and letter names) EN2PA-IVc-d-

• Determine the meaning of words using clues (Total Physical
Response through realia, pictures, body movements, context clues,
etc.) EN2V-IIb-c-12.1

III. Process
• The teacher will employ explicit approach or GRR (Gradual Release
of Responsibility. He/she will be the first one to tell the letter name
and its sound. Then the teacher and the learners will do it together
after that the learner will do it on their own.
• Present the pictures that start with letter Ss.
• Give the words that starts with letter Ss.
• Give the meaning of the words by showing its picture.
• Employ writing technique (in the air, table, palm, or paper).

IV. Activities
• Identify the letter name and its sound
• Give the initial sound of the words and pictures
• Give the meaning of the words based on the pictures.

Direction: The teacher will sing a song first, then they sing it together, lastly, the
learner will do it alone after every stanza.
Teacher says: Lets sing a song entitled S for Science in the tune of “Watermelon”.

Direction: The teacher will say the name of the picture one by one and say its name.
She will do it first, then they do it together. After doing it together ask these questions
to the learner.
Teacher Say: Again, what is this picture? (Show picture number 1) What is the first
letter of this picture? What is the initial sound of this picture? What is the sound of
letter Ss?
(Repeat process till picture number 6)

Direction: The teacher will show the words that start with letter Ss. Then, he/she will
give the meaning of the word by showing the pictures correspond to it.

Direction: The teacher will ask the learner to find letter Ss and color the big S with
yellow and the small s with green.

Teacher: The teacher will ask the learner which pictures start with Ss. The learner
will identify the pictures that start with Ss by coloring the raise of the sun pointing to
it.
