Rocks and Minerals

Rocks are all around us. They are the hard, solid material that
form part of the surface of the Earth, and some other heavenly
bodies too.
Millions of years ago, early humans used rocks to make tools
and weapons like knives, hammers, axes and hooks for
catching fish.

They accidently discovered fire by striking two flint stones

together.
Some rocks on this planet are millions of years old while others
are still forming and are new.
Old rocks sometimes have remains or traces of plants and
animals that lived long ago. They are called fossils.
The preserved remains tell us about the animals and plants that
lived millions of years ago. The existence and life of dinosaurs
was studied by paleontologists through the study of fossils.
All landforms on the Earth’s surface are made of rocks. Some
of the planets, asteroids, and satellites, that you have studied in
science, are also made of rocks.
