5. Why does the Government of India has a Ministry of Human Resource Development?
Ans: The Government of India has a Ministry of Human Resource Development with an aim to improve
people’s skills.
6. What is population density? Compare the population density of the world with that of India.
Ans: Population density is the number of people living in a unit area of the earth’s surface. It is expressed as per
square km.
The average density of population in the whole world is 51 persons per square km whereas average density of
population in India is 382 persons per square km.
7. What is population change? Discuss the factors that influence population change?
Ans: The population change refers to change in the number of people during a specific time.
Factors are-
i. Birth rate- The statistic that measures the number of live births/1000 people.
ii. Death rate-The statistic that measures the number of deaths/1000 people.
iii. Migration- It refers to the movement of people in an out of an area.

8. Look at the population pyramid in the figure and answer these questions.

a) What can you say about the birth rate of the country?
b) What does the shape at the top of the pyramid indicates?
c) Which country-developed, developing, underdeveloped most likely to have such a pyramid?

Ans:
a) As the base is narrower than some of its upper parts, so the birthrate of the country is not much.
b) The top shape indicates that more people reach the old age, this shows a lower death rate.
c) This age-sex pyramid is meant for a developed country as the population growth rates seems to be
controlled.
