If you have fallen victim to a scam, make sure you report it. You may not always be able to get
your money back, but you might be able to reduce the damage and take steps to stop it happening

If you've been the victim of a scam, it can be extremely distressing, but support is available.
Victim Support is an independent charity that supports victims of crime or traumatic events.
When you report a scam to Action Fraud, they will ask if they can pass your details to Victim

Every day I try to be in communication with the universe in an unconscious way.
Paulo Coelho
The world is clearly coming to a tipping point. The haves versus the have nots is becoming so
pronounced that some form of equilibrium will have to be met, or the chaos will continue. Clear
communication must be the solution.

All weekend I have been pondering what piece of the puzzle I might be willing to, or capable of,
adding to the solution. As we are building a platform of significance and depth, it feels
incumbent upon us to see the flaws and work collectively towards providing solutions.

In our country, we are being manipulated by external forces to turn upon one another with ever
greater ferocity. I believe it is important to ask ourselves who gains from the destabilization of
the most powerful country on the planet?
In watching the anger pave way to demonstration which then became a license for social
unrest which then became a license for crime and hatred, I am searching my soul for how
or what I might do as one individual.
3. Express your opinion on the following problem: Are you likely to get caught if you
download something illegally?
Why Is Illegal Downloading On The Increase?
Independent correspondent at Fellows and Associates, Ben Johnson, discusses whether illegal
downloads should be seen as a crime or a simple moral judgement.
Be honest. Have you ever heard a great song which you immediately downloaded for free with the click
of a button? Or have you ever had an overwhelming urge to download the latest Hollywood blockbuster
online without having to wait for the DVD?
Many people would freely admit that this is a regular occurrence for them but what are the issues, both
morally and legally, that so often seem to divide public opinion on the subject of copyright?
The risks of illegal downloading in the UK are becoming greater all the time, with the government
recently signing the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) Bill, allowing imprisonment for up to
ten years for serious cases of copyright theft.
The matter is seen as so serious in fact, that the task of tackling copyright theft has been given to
the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA), which would suggest that downloading the latest Coldplay
track from a file sharing website is now seen by some as up there with human trafficking, serious gun
crime and drug smuggling when it comes to severity.
But, do people take these threats seriously? Internet activists have described the UK as having some of
the most oppressive copyright laws in the world, along with Brazil and Thailand, yet the illegal
downloading of films has risen 30% in the last five years according to internet consultancy
firm Envisional.

1. Show some features of what defines you as a person.
I would describe myself my self now in four different parts. I would describe myself as a kind,
generous and helpful person. I love to help my friends out by giving them advice with their
problems, and by having their back whenever they need it from supporting them in activities
such as going to band concerts to being there emotionally when a break up happens. I would also
describe myself as a very artistic, imaginative and creative. I love to build and make things with
my hands, especially in art. For example, I enjoy sculpting and creating tiny tiny creatures with
clay. Thirdly, I would describe myself as a very intelligent, curious and wondrous person. I like
to solve puzzles and question things that I am interested in or unfamiliar with. Finally, I would
describe myself as a shy person. I like to keep to myself most of the time and stand out in the
crowd.
Sometimes a person may feel that they have no purpose in life. Finding out who you are just takes
the time of sitting down and thinking of the importance in your life. Who am I? I am Mercedes
Kimberly Kingston, and I am a person with different personalities, characteristics, and identities.
The many ways, in which I identify myself, in fact, are the ways that define who I am. My Identity
is something only I can fully define. I have a little brother, which makes me a sister; I have two
loving parents, which makes me a daughter; I am in college studying medicine, which makes me a
student; and I have wonderful friends in desperate need of support, which makes me a wonderful
best friend. Before anything,
2. Characterize digital manipulation in the fashion industry.
Since the advent of photography workflow on computers, digital manipulation has been a beast with two
heads- helping some, and hurting others. Programs like Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom and iPhoto have
become staples for many professional photographers, and most alter their photos without a second
thought.

Digital Manipulation is not evil. Correcting photographs allows people to circumvent the problems that
they might encounter while actually taking a picture. Too much light? Correct exposure. Awkward red
eye? Red eye correction. Feeling artsy? Convert to black and white. Photo editing is a useful tool that
allows photographers to guide an image closer to what they want, or the idea that they originally
imagined.

However, Photoshop’s capabilities range far beyond simple light correction. The software allows
components of an image to be completely remastered. (Enter interrupting Kanye meme) Entire portions
of a photograph can be reconfigured or removed entirely, or new elements can be introduced, giving a
false impression of what was actually captured by the camera’s lens: therein lies the problem.

The fashion industry is notorious for it’s heavy-handed use of digital manipulation software, and has
fallen under criticism for introducing ‘false images’ into the mainstream and passing them off as real.
Industry big-wigs are continually blamed for deliberately misleading consumers by creating false
impressions with their products, and more severely, for perpetuating unhealthy body images by ‘slimming
down’ their models and concealing their imperfections.

In the last two years alone, magazines and designers alike have come under fire for this particular offense.
The most recent infraction has been the Crystal Renn controversy. Renn is currently the most sought after
plus-sized model in the industry; she famously battled anorexia before taking control of her health and
speaking out against the unhealthy expectations of models in fashion and the practices that perpetuated
her bad choices.

3. What are the cons of photocopying scientific or academic

articles

Purpose: To begin investigating the impact of electronic journals on research processes such as
information seeking, the authors conducted a pilot journal-use study to test the hypothesis that
patrons use print and electronic journals differently.

Methodology: We placed fifteen high-use print titles also available in electronic format behind the
circulation desk; patrons were asked to complete a survey upon requesting a journal. We also
conducted a parallel survey of patrons using library computers. Both surveys asked patrons to
identify themselves by user category and queried them about their journal use.

Results: During the month-long study, patrons completed sixty-nine surveys of electronic and
ninety surveys of print journal use. Results analysis indicated that fellows, students, and residents
preferred electronic journals, and faculty preferred print journals. Patrons used print journals for
reading articles and scanning contents; they employed electronic journals for printing articles and
checking references. Users considered electronic journals easier to access and search than print
journals; however, they reported that print journals had higher quality text and figures.

Discussion/Conclusion: This study is an introductory step in examining how electronic journals

affect research processes. Our data revealed that there were distinct preferences in format among
categories. In addition to collection management implications for libraries, these data also have
implications for publishers and educators; current electronic formats do not facilitate all types of
uses and thus may be changing learning patterns as well.
