1 Introduction
The CPM communication platform is delivered as a complete unit from BTG, normally in conjunction with
an instrument. The CPM is a control panel for complete configuration and operation of the instrument.
1.1 Safety
Operation of an instrument, using the CPM communication platform, is not hazardous and does not
require any safety regulations. See the CPM user manual and the instrument user manual for further
safety instructions regarding installation and service.

The function keys have different functions depending on where you are in the menu structure. The actual
function of each key is shown on the bottom row of the display, directly above the corresponding key.
The scroll keys are used to step between different available selections, and to change parameter values.

• The Measurement/sample menu is used for viewing measurement results, and for taking calibration
samples. This is the default menu on the display at start-up, and reappears after five minutes of
inactivity.
• The Calibrate menu is used to calibrate the instrument.
• The Configure menu is used for configuration of the instrument settings.
• The Diagnostics menu is used for viewing various instrument diagnostics, and for configuration of
alarm/warning settings.
• The Backup menu is used to backup instrument data to a memory card, or restore previously backed
up data.
Each sub-menu is described in a separate section of this manual.

indicators that can appear in this area are shown and explained below.
1
2.12
3. Communication indicator
4. Lock indicator
L 4
C 5 5. Logging indicator / Formatting Countdown timer
Menu Sample Next 6 6. Scrolling indicator
Indicator Description
Alarm indicator The alarm indicator appears as a blinking ‘A’ at upper right corner of the display
and indicates that an alarm has been triggered and is currently active.
Enter the Status View to see more information about an active alarm (see section
2.3.1: View Device Status).
Communication The communication indicator appears as a number (0-9) in the second row of the
indicator indicator column and indicates communication problems between the CPM and
the instrument.
The number shows the amount of succeeded request as follows:
0: 0 - 5% 5: 45 - 55%
1: 5 - 15% 6: 55 - 65%
2: 15 - 25% 7: 65 - 75%
3: 25 - 35% 8: 75 - 85%
4: 35 - 45% 9: 85 - 95%
No indicator is shown if the communication is close to faultless (95 - 100%
succeeded requests).
Indicator Description
Lock indicator The lock indicator appears when the system is locked for editing, which means
that no settings can be changed.
For more information on how to lock/unlock the system, see section 2.5.1:
General Configuration.
Logging indicator / The logging indicator appears as a blinking letter ‘C’ and indicates that logging to
Formatting the SD card is in progress. While the logging indicator is visible, the sub-menus
Countdown timer of the Backup menu are unavailable, and trying to accessing the Backup menu
will lead to the logging view. See section 2.7.4: Store Data and Log Tables on
Memory Card for more information.
The formatting countdown timer appears during formatting of the SD card and
shows the remaining number of seconds until the format process is finished. See
section 2.7.3: Format Memory Card for more information.
Scrolling indicator The scrolling indicator appears as a two way arrow at the lower right corner of the
display, and can indicate two things:
• The currently displayed view contains non-visible rows that can be reached
by scrolling up or down using the scroll keys.
• The currently displayed view can show information for other channels than
the currently selected. Information for other channels are accessed by
pressing the scroll keys.

2.2.3 Channels
Some instruments can provide multiple types of measurement results, and this is handled by using
separate channels.
Each channel has its own configuration and is calibrated separately, but calibration samples are always
taken for all channels at once. Measuring results, calibration data, and instrument settings are always
displayed for the active channel only.
The active channel can be viewed and changed from various display views in the menu structure. See the
menu structure overview diagrams in section 2.1: Menu Structure Overview for more information.

LED intensity The LED intensity setpoint for This parameter should be automatically adjusted
the optical measuring before calibration, using the Adj. LED int.
system. command (see below). The parameter should
only be manually adjusted from this view if the
probe is changed and the present calibration is to
be kept.
When manually adjusting this parameter,
compare the TCons value on the third help line in
this view with the actual consistency of the pulp in
the line. Increase the LED intensity value by
approximately 2 percentage units if the TCons
value is too low, or decrease if the TCons value
is too high. Repeat this procedure until the TCons
value is equal to the actual consistency of the
pulp in the line.
This view also shows the LED meas. value and
the Peak raw value. The LED meas. value is the
actual LED intensity from the probe. This value
should be as close to the LED intensity value as
possible. A too large deviation (more than 10 %)
indicates that the LED is faulty and the probe with
electronics needs to be changed. An alarm
function is available to alert when the LED meas.
value deviates too much from the LED intensity
setpoint. See section 2.6.2.1: TCR-25xx Alarms
for more information.
Adj. LED int. Command for performing an When setting the parameter value to 1, an
automatic LED intensity automatic LED intensity adjustment will be
adjustment. started. This will adjust the LED intensity
parameter to an appropriate value for the present
pulp conditions, that is, a value where the Peak
raw value is as close to 50 % as possible. The
LED intensity parameter value will however
always be set within the interval 10 - 60 %
regardless of the Peak raw value.
For a correct result, the transmitter must be
running in pulp when this adjustment is
performed. A separate LED intensity adjustments
must be performed for each calibration set used.
CW The zero reference value, i.e. The CW parameter value is factory preset and
the signal when the probe is should only be changed if the probe is changed.
put in clear water.
To set the CW parameter value, place the probe
in a bucket with water of drinking quality (the
probe tip must be held at least 10 cm [4”] from the
wall and bottom of the bucket) and observe the
“CW measured” value in this view.
Then enter this value as the new CW parameter
value.

NOTE!
The memory cards must be formatted with the FAT16 file system (which have a maximum partition size of
2 GB). Regular SD cards must be formatted externally from a PC, while SDHC/SDXC cards can be
formatted directly from the CPM via the Format view. See section 2.7.3: Format Memory Card for more
information.
Backup is made to two folders, one for communication module data, and one for sensor and calibration
data. Default names for these folders are proposed when entering the Backup view. However, the folder
names can be changed to any name with a maximum of eight characters.
Two files, *.bcf and *.htm (where * is the same as the default folder name), are stored into each folder.
The *.bcf file is the backup file used by the instrument, and the *.htm file is a report of the backup in
HTML-format, which can displayed in any browser on a PC.
Both folders are always stored at the same time when a backup is made.

3.1 Commissioning
These steps should be carried out in sequential order to get the transmitter running when put into
operation for the first time. The TCR-25xx must be installed in the pipe, and pulp must be admitted to the
line, before these steps are performed.
NOTE!
The TCR-25x2 transmitters operates using two separate channels (see section 2.2.3 on page 11 for more
information about channels), where channel 1 is used for total consistency measurement, and channel 2
is used for filler consistency measurement. Transmitter configuration and calibration in steps 3, 7, 9, 10,
and 12 below must be performed for each channel separately.
NOTE!
Changing pulp type will overwrite the calibration constants in the present passive Calibration Set to
the default values of a pre-defined calibration. At the same time, all active lab samples in the present
passive Calibration Set will automatically be set to inactive in order to indicate that they are not a part
of the present calibration.
For a basic calibration, a single calibration sample is required to check if there is a need of an offset
adjustment. See section 2.3.4: Take Sample for sampling instructions.
• Lab calibration:
For a lab calibration, a single calibration sample can be used to get started quickly and obtain a
correct calibration at the present consistency level, but for a more exact calibration, multiple samples
at various consistency levels are required. Additional samples can be added at any time to improve
an existing lab calibration. Maximum 18 sample values can be stored for each calibration set.
See section 2.3.4: Take Sample for sampling instructions, and section 2.4.4: Lab Calibration for lab
calibration instructions.
