Amongst fruits, India ranks first in the production of Bananas (26.29%), Papayas (43.

26%) and
Mangoes (including mangosteens and guavas) (45.14%). (FAO)

 Total Horticulture production in 2021-22 is estimated to be 333.3 Million Tonne, a decrease of about 1.35
Million Tonne (decrease of 0.4%) over 2020-21 (Final).
 Increase in production of Fruits while decrease in Vegetables, Spices, Flowers Aromatics & Medicinal
Plants and Plantation Crops over previous year, is envisaged.
 The Fruits production is estimated to be 102.9 Million Tonne compared to 102.5 Million Tonne in 2020-21.

Andhra Pradesh produced the largest volume of fruits in India, accounting for over 18 million metric tons in
financial year 2022. Maharashtra came in second at over 12 million metric tons that year. As a leading producer
of low-cost fruits and vegetables, the country had an enormous export market. The main exports included

MANGO : The major mango-growing states are Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka,
Bihar, Gujarat and Telangana. Uttar Pradesh ranks first in mango production with a share of
23.58 % and the highest productivity in 2021-22.
GRAPES : Major grape-growing states are Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Mizoram.
Maharashtra ranks first in terms of production accounting for more than 71 % of total
production and the highest productivity in the country 2020-21. Karnataka is the second
largest producer of Grapes with a share of 24% in 2020-21.
