CADET UNIFORM

SHOULDER FLASHES
The top of the Shoulder Flash is to touch the seam.

POCKET BADGE
Worn in the centre of the left pocket. In the case of female cadets, the top of the Badge should
be 13mm (½ inch) below the name tag.

RANK CHEVRONS
Worn midway between the shoulder and the elbow on the right arm.
NAME TAGS
Length 60mm (2 1/2 in) to 90mm (3 1/4in)
Width 20mm (3/4 in)
Lettering 8mm (5/16 in)
White lettering on a black background. Only one word with a maximum of 9 characters
Name tags should be worn in line with the top of the right pocket. Only worn on duty uniform. In
the case of female cadets, it will be worn approximately 127mm (5 inches) from the centre of the
shoulder line on the right.

MOHAMAD
SECRETARY'S BADGE
Worn midway between the shoulder and the elbow of the right arm. When the Rank Chevron is
also worn, the Secretary's Badge is worn above the Rank Chevron.

STOREKEEPER'S BADGE
The Storekeeper's Badge is worn midway between the shoulder and the elbow of the right arm.
When the Rank Chevron is also worn, the Storekeeper's Badge is worn above the Rank Chevron.

BELTS
The waist belt is a black nylon web belt, 30 mm wide, and is worn with a stainless steel buckle
which is not to be polished but embellished. The belt is to pass through all loops and is to be
adjusted so that the free end (ended with metal) protrudes through the buckle on the wearer's left
side to a distance of not more than 2 cm. The other end of the belt is to be trimmed so that no
material is visible under the buckle. The belt is worn with the buckle aligned centrally on the body,
with the centre of the buckle in line with shirt buttons and the trouser fly.

LANYARDS
Lanyards are worn over the left shoulder by Male Cadet N.C.O.s only.

SERVICE STAR & SERVICE STRIPES
1st Year One Stripe worn horizontally
38mm (1½ inches) from the
bottom of the left sleeve.

2nd Year Two black-and-white Stripes,


the second above and touching

SPECIAL SERVICE SHIELD
Worn above the right pocket. The bottom of the badge should be 13mm (½ inch) above the name
tag.

CADET PROFICIENCY BADGES


Worn in three rows on the left arm, 25mm (1 inch) below the name of the State. The Proficiency
Badges must not be worn after the award of the Grand Prior's Badge.

GRAND PRIOR’S BADGE


The Grand Prior's Badge is worn midway between the shoulder and the elbow on the left arm.

Grand Prior

The Grand Prior Award is awarded to members who have passed 12 proficiency tests over a period not less than 36 months. In addition, the
member must be efficient and be of good conduct. This award is awarded by Royal Highness, the Duke of Gloucester. The Grand Prior of the
Order of the St. John is the highest award given to a St. John Cadet Member.

Cadet Proficiency Scheme


The objective of the cadet Proficiency Scheme is to encourage young people to take an interest in subjects outside their normal co-curricular
and widen their horizons by carrying out these studies in their leisure time. Instruction and examination will be based on the syllabus laid down
for each subject.

Certificates
Proficiency Certificates will be issued by the National Headquarter. A candidate who has obtained 12 certificates, qualifies for the Grand Prior’s
Badge and will be known as “Grand Prior Cadet”. For the Grand Prior Badge, the 12 Proficiency Certificates must be spread over a period of
not less than 36 months. All certificates must be obtained by the 21st birthday.

Qualifications
In addition to “Knowledge of the Order”, which is compulsory, a cadet must choose one and not more than 3 subjects from each of the
following five categories.

OBSERVANT “that he may note the causes and signs of injury”

TACTFUL “that he may without thoughtless questions learn the symptoms and
history of the case, and secure the confidence of the patients and
bystanders”

RESOURCEFUL “That he may use to the best advantage whatever is at hand to prevent
further damage, and to assist Nature’s efforts to repair the mischief
already done”

DEXTROUS “that he may handle a patient without causing unnecessary pain, and use
appliances efficiently and neatly”

EXPLICIT “that he may give clear instructions to the patient or the bystanders how
best to assist him”

DISCRIMINATING "that he may decide which of several injuries presses most for treatment
by himself, what can best be left for the patient or bystanders to do, and
what should be left for the medical men”

PERSEVERING “that he may continue his efforts, though not at first successful.”

SYMPATHETIC “that he may give real comfort and encouragement to the suffering”
