(2)

Weeping

2. *Separation between husband and wife is generally due to what*? (3)

womanly weakness.

4. *What was the purpose of Vedic animal sacrifice*? (6)

The real purpose of a sacrifice was not to replace a slaughterhouse but to test a Vedic mantra by giving an
animal new life. Animals were used to test the power of Vedic mantras, not for meat.

5. *What general principles does Çréla Prabhupäda draw from the way in which Saté was received*? (7-8)

Women as a class are very softhearted; their natural affection and love cannot be checked by artificial means.
The material bodily conception is so polluted that even upon slight provocation all our relationships of love and
affection are nullified. Bodily relationships are so transient that even though one is affectionate towards
someone in a bodily relationship, a slight provocation terminates this intimacy.

6. *What was Saté most concerned about*? (9-10)

Her husband was being insulted in the sacrifice.

7. *How should one respond when Viñëu or a Vaiñëava is insulted*? (10)

Viṣṇ u or a Vaiṣṇ ava is insulted, one should be angry. Narottama dā sa Ṭ hā kura said, krodha bhakta-dveṣi jane.
Anger should be directed against a person who is envious of the Supreme Personality of Godhead or His
devotee. One should not be tolerant when a person is offensive towards Viṣṇ u or a Vaiṣṇ ava.

8. *Whom are offenses generally committed by*? (13)

Offenses are generally committed by persons who falsely identify with the impermanent body.

9. *Explain how Lord Çiva is the friend of everyone* (15)

Lord Śiva, being very quickly satisfied, satisfies the material desires of the common man very quickly. And
those who are disgusted or frustrated with the materialistic way of life, Lord Śiva offers them the salvation by
which one understands that he is not this body.

10. *Explain how Çiva's position is constitutionally higher than that of Brahmä* (16)

Lord Siva is neither on the level of the Supreme Personality of Godhead nor on the level of the ordinary living
entities.
Brahmā is in almost all cases an ordinary living entity. Sometimes, when there is no ordinary living entity
available, the post of Brahmā is occupied by an expansion of Lord Viṣṇ u, but generally this post is occupied by
a greatly pious living entity within this universe. Thus Lord Śiva’s position is constitutionally higher than that of
Lord Brahmā ,

11. *What was Saté's main purpose in coming to her father's house*? (16)

She came to convince her father Daksa that it is useless to be envious of Lord Siva.

12. *Why do the Puräëas sometimes describe various demigods as being on an equal or more elevated level than
the
Supreme Personality of Godhead*? (16)

It is just to draw the devotee’s attention to that particular demigod.

13. *How should one respond to blasphemy of an exalted person like Lord Çiva*? (17)

Brā hmaṇ a should leave the place or block his ears so that he will not hear the blasphemy
Kṣatriya has the power to punish any man; therefore a kṣatriya should at once cut out the tongue of the vilifier
and kill him. Vaiśyas and śū dras should immediately give up their bodies.

14. *List reasons why Saté decided to give up her body* (17-18, 23-24, 26)

a. Satī decided to give up her body because she thought herself to be among the śū dras and vaiśyas.
b. In order to save her husband from the charge that he employed his wife to kill Dakṣa because he could
not do so due to his inferior position, she decided to give up her body.
c. Siva sometime used to call Sati as Dakshayani as the daughter of Daksa. She considered her body
connected with the embodiment of offenses.
d. Sati wanted to transfer her soul to another body or sphere.
e. She wanted to give up the body which is source of unhappiness being connected to her father and can
get completely uncontaminated association of Lord Siva.

15. *Why should one never vilify a great personality like Lord Çiva*? (19-20)

16. *Why do Lord Çiva's worshipers sometimes appear more opulent than the worshipers of Lord Viñëu*? (21)

Because Durgā , or Satī, being the superintendent in charge of material affairs, can offer all material opulences to
the worshipers of Lord Śiva in order to glorify her husband, whereas the worshipers of Viṣṇ u are meant for
spiritual elevation, and therefore their material opulence is sometimes found to decrease.

17. *Explain how any transcendental process of spiritual realization automatically helps to keep the body fit*
(25)

18. *What type of body did Saté achieve*? (27)

She didn’t get a spiritual body, as Visvanatha Cakravarti says, as she is the superintendent deity of the external
potency. But she was transferred to another material body to associate with Lord Siva as the daughter of mother
Menaka.

19. *What principle does Çréla Prabhupäda draw from Saté’s giving up her body*? (28)

One cannot attain complete satisfaction even if one is situated in the greatest material opulence. There was
nothing Satī could not achieve either from her relationship with her father or from her relationship with the
greatest of the demigods, but still, for some reason, she was dissatisfied. If one can develop his unflinching love
for the transcendental Supreme Personality of Godhead, that can give complete satisfaction; otherwise there is
no possibility of satisfaction in the material world or anywhere else.
