REQUIREMENTS
Documents Required
Now PPSC receives just online forms but candidates will
have to bring following documents with a set of photocopy
at the time of interview-viva.
1-Original fee deposit bank receipt
2- Matriculation or O Level certificate

3-Intermediate or A Level certificate. Candidates having A-
level certificate will also bring their original equivalence
certificate issued by IBCC.
3-Bachelor degree or detailed marks sheet showing total
marks or CGPA/GPA or percentage of marks.
4-Domicile certificate of any district of Punjab issued on or
before the closing date.
5-If you are a civil servant then you will have to bring
permission letter from your concerned department issued
and attested by

6-Experience letter signed and stamped by the competent
authority. The sample of experience letter is also available

7-Original valid national identity card issued by NADRA.
8-Recent passport size colored photograph.

bring the equivalence certificate issued by the qualification
equivalence determination committee of the related

10-Disable candidates will bring their disability certificate

English Essay Subject in PMS Exam is one of compulsory
subjects. Syllabus Outlines of English Essay Subject for PMS
Exam 2020 as defined by Punjab Public Service Commission

Candidates would be required to write an essay in English of
about 1500 words. A wide choice of topics will be given in

the question paper. The topics may include those on issues

economic issues related to Pakistan and topics of general
nature.
The candidates are expected to reflect a clear
understanding of the topic, conceptual clarity and logical

under:
Candidates would be required to write an essay in Urdu of

Comprehension: A carefully selected passage, which is rich
in substance but not specific to any discipline, shall be
given followed by five questions requiring answers from the
passage itself.
Grammar & Vocabulary: Questions relating to correct usage
of tense, articles, prepositions, conjunctions, punctuations,
verbs shall be given.
Sentence Correction: Sentences may be given, each having
a flaw in grammar, punctuations or use of capitals.
Candidates shall be expected to correct them without
making unnecessary alterations.
Ouping of Words & Pair of Words: Words, chosen randomly,
may be given that need to be grouped by candidates in pairs

having similar or opposite meaning, use of idioms and
proverbs as may be clearly directed in the question,
antonyms, synonyms, etc.
Translation: A short passage in English that may contain
figurative or idiomatic expressions, shall be given for an
accurate translation into Urdu.

Leading Hints For Passing CSS and PMS in First Attempt:-
The Prime and foremost thing is to Select the Subjects
Consciously and carefully with respect to your mental
aptitude as well.
Carefully read out the of recommended syllabus for exams
accordingly.
After Selection of optional subjects you just need to arrange
5 years previous papers which will help you and will be best
guide for initial preparation.
At beginning level you should be moderate in studding. Don’t
studies too much just draw you attention on the most
important aspects of related subject.

Avoid peoples suggestions and move along with your mind
aptitude. Don’t be discourage at any stage and inflict put
your all efforts accordingly.
Your Prime focus should be on English Essay, Precise and to

*URDU*
Urdu is a compulsory subject. One has to get 40 marks to
pass the exam. If one prepares it well, its score can be
above 70, yes.
If you take it easy then it can be a disaster.
How should candidates prepare Urdu?
1) Memorize more than 50 verses of Urdu poetry
2) Try to learn methods of application and letter writing.
3) Read all corrections and Idioms. Memorize th 7them.

4) Just go through all “famous” (Not all) gazals and poems of
Iqbal, Ghalib, Mir, Dard (Important poets). Again just famous
not all Dewans and collections.
5) There is no need to memorize Urdu or English essays.
Essay writing is an art. Just learn the art of essay writing.
6) There are many candidates like me who face problem
while reading and writing Urdu. Please read Urdu daily for
few minutes and very soon you will feel at home.
Urdu is compulsory and one has to pass it. Don’t take it
easy. Otherwise above 700 marks are useless if we fail Urdu
at 38.
Fact:

Remember one thing. Structurally, PMS is more difficult than
CSS as a candidate has to pass all subjects individually with
minimum 40 passing marks in each.

Again it is a tough field to play. It is a compulsory subject.
For this paper, get past papers of PPSC published by
Advance Publishers or other book of MCQS. Memorize MCQS
as many as you can. Try to memorize on daily basis.
Because, suddenly near exams they can only be read but
cannot be retained by memory. So, read them on daily basis.
At 5 papers daily.
One must be concerned about this subject after looking at
PMS-2020
General Knowledge.
Fact: Unfortunately, many of Aspirants failed PMS_2020 with
1,2 marks in GK, while those were passed in English and

rest of the subjects after scoring almost 700 marks. Only 1
mark proved fatal.

*General Knowledge* for PMS Exams
A lot of Aspirants have asked us…… How to get ready for
General Knowledge and Current Affairs for the CSS Exams
and all other Competitive Exams.
So I am sharing 4 possible Ways to reading and memorize
Current Affairs and General Knowledge!
Before we set in motion you have to keep in mind a few
important points regarding this:

In order to retain information about General Knowledge and
Current Awareness for coming exams, constantly make sure
your PERCEPTION is 100 percent clear about this.
Keep on the track and you will end up where you want to be.
Never miss reading newspaper or current affairs more than a
week.
Always share/discuss current affairs and related stuff with
other aspirants around you.

Always dig out the collection of GKs (Places, Important
Events, State related GKs) from Current Affairs.
First Method; the Newspaper Plant
In our first method, you have to remember Current Affairs
and General Knowledge by penning them down while study.
Know your topic and always make research about the event,
person or topic and gather some pictures because picture
will aid you to remember the whole story. This is the main
cause photos are providing with every current affairs news /
article of CSS Times. Write down them like a magazine,

2nd Method; Channelize your research Accordingly
All the competitive exams and papers are not same, as all

3rd Method; Maintain a Diary
My senior used to advise me that whenever we learn
somewhat try to put in writing down in your diary/copy, as it
will facilitate us to remember it in a better way. He is so
accurate, as this process helped a lot to achieve high marks
in all kind of exam. As already mention earlier that a lot of
events are happening in the state and around the globe, so it
is easily understandable that it is not easy to memorize

everything. It’s forever a superb plan to keep a diary of
current events.
You need to revise this diary everyday with all the
procedures that you consider as essential ones. This diary
will turn out to be quite valuable for the modification part, as
it will give you information about all the main proceedings at
a place. You should remain revise the diary regularly, as it
will help you to remember essential dates, awards and
names etc.
4th Method; My Mind, My Way, My Rule

Yes, if none of above work, there has to be a technique you
can cram. Every individual can generate their own traditions
of doing stuff. This is what Survival assumption of
personality is. Try to discover.
But constantly pay attention to other ways since you never

Strategy to secure maximum marks in the written part of
PMS exam?
*ANSWER*

First of all, the presentation of your paper should be pleasing
to the eye. It shouldn’t be a bundle of pages with nothing but
a lot of something written with a ballpoint.
Second an answer should start with introduction. In this
portion, one should explain what is being asked in the
question. This should be followed by the main body of the
answer. One important thing here is: don’t ever deviate from
what has been asked in the question statement. Many
students start writing irrelevant things but it often leads to
low score. Write quotations and add facts and figures with
marker in the middle of the page with reference in its right
bottom as this makes paper more attractive and interesting
and also makes the facts/figures more prominent.

Complete your answer with the conclusion which should be
on a positive note.

General Tips
• Précis Writing is the first question of the subjective part.
• Follow the sequence of the English Composition and Précis
paper, so the examiner knows that you don’t lack self-
confidence
• Spend almost 1 hour on this section
• Be confident
• The problems in précis writing are sometimes difficult
vocabulary. Don’t Panic. There are two types of meanings of
difficult words.
O Lexical Meanings: exact meanings out of the dictionary

O Contextual Meanings: meaning of the word according to
the context in which it is used.
• Contextual Meanings can be understood from the former
sentence in which it is used or the latter. ( Remember: Word
is not important, the position of the word is)
• Start practicing Precis from any Standard Punjab
TextBook, and then later start Past Papers.
Step by Step Guidance
1) Read the passage for the first time slowly in order to
grasp the overall idea. (Only 15-20% meaning will be
comprehended at this time)

2) In the second reading, highlight certain points. Points are
divided into two categories;
a. ‘Are’s’: Facts and Figures (You cannot change them)
b. ‘Are nots’: Explanations and Details.
You are given 20 % permission to use words as they are,
these are the facts and figures, Highlight them! In a normal
passage of 300 to 400 words, you will be able to find 8 or 10
or 12 points.

2) On a fresh page, write down a heading “Points for the
Précis” and enlist all the points in YOUR OWN WORDS in
a chronological order.
3) On the next page, make a heading “Rough Draft”, with
the help of Connectors/Transitional Phrases, write down
all the points you wrote on the previous page in a single
whole paragraph.
4) Count the words of the original passage and the ones in
your Rough Draft. Relaxation of 10 words is given by the
examiner so that you do not miss out the important

points. (Do not try to be over-efficient and avail this
opportunity)
5) Start editing your Rough draft and apply one word
substitution or other techniques where applicable.
6) On a fresh Page, make a heading “Neat Draft”. Write
down the material left after editing your Rough Draft.
You need to write down your Neat Draft within 105-110
words(if the Original Passage is 300 words, follow the
1/3rd Rule)

7) Using a Black Marker, write down “Words in the Original
Passage=300 words” on a separate line. On the next,
write down “Required Number of Words=100 words”. On
the next, “Words in the Precis=108” (This is just a
Sample)
8) “Title Giving” can be done by either giving “Points of
The Precis” a read and come up with a title, or figure it
out through the Topic Sentence, which is either written
in the first sentence or the concluding one. The former
method is more reliable.

10) How to write down the Title?
a. In a phrase: “Unemployment is one of the reasons behind
Crime”
b. Like the Topic of an Essay
c. Like This: Unemployment: a cause behind crime (Most
effective)
11) Go back to the portion where you wrote “Points of the
Precis” and “Rough Draft” and put a cross using a Black
Marker. The whole point of this exercise is to make the

examiner see that you have followed a proper structure
while attempting précis. S/He’ll be impressed.

What, is the key to getting through compulsory papers of
PMS exam, especially that of General Knowledge?
*ANSWER*

One of the many problems that aspirants face while
preparing for compulsory subjects is that they give much
attention to the Optional subjects, and not to the
compulsory ones. In choosing the right optional subjects,
they usually forget that it is the compulsory subjects that
they have to clear first. Hence, the first point to ponder upon
is that like “America First”, it’s “Compulsories First”. Other
key points are:
1. Reading 2-3 books for compulsory subjects is enough. It’s
better to read two books ten times than reading ten books a
single time each.
2. Develop a habit of writing extensively.

3. Don’t beat around the bush. Questions are not mere
questions; they are guidelines too. They give you the
directions about what to write and how much data to give.
For General Knowledge
There are various sources that can be consulted for the
preparation of GK paper, e.g. past papers, websites, etc.
However, in my opinion, it is the performance inside the
examination hall that decides your fate in this exam.
Aspirants usually panic during the paper and either commit
a mistake or forget what they have prepared. A few points
that can help in clearing the GK paper are:
1. Read the whole paper first.
2. Attempt those MCQs first you are sure about.

3. Develop a sense of making analysis as, by doing so, you
can find the right option.
4. Give the paper complete attention and time. Don’t decide
at the first glance that you are not prepared for it.
5. Remember, the goal is to reach 40 first, so don’t screw
yourself by trying to solve more MCQs.
