Firearm Identification Terminologies

Objective: To provide definition of the basic terminologies in Firearm Identification.


Procedure: Look for the definition of the following terms in Firearm Identification from
various reliable resources. Provide the reference/s at the end of the table.

TERMS DEFINITION
Forensic Forensics is a scientific way of solving crimes that incudes the
objects or chemicals involved in the crime. It is also defined as
the use of technology or science to prove anything legally.
Ballistics Ballistics is the study of the path taken by a projectile, the forces
that act on it, and the effect the bullet has upon the target.

Forensic Ballistics Forensic ballistics is the analysis of firearms-related evidence at


a crime scene, which looks at the effects of projectiles including
bullets, missiles, and bombs as well as ballistic speed, mobility,
and angular movement.
Internal ballistics The study of interior or internal ballistics examines what takes
place inside a gun's barrel from the time the firing pin strikes the
primer until the bullet leaves the barrel.

External ballistics The study of projectile motion from the time it leaves a gun's
muzzle to the time of contact or burst is known as exterior or
external ballistics.

Terminal Ballistics The study of terminal ballistics examines a projectile's behavior


when it strikes a target and transfers kinetic energy there. The
design of the bullets and their impact velocity have a significant
impact on how the energy is conveyed.
Firearm A projectile-firing weapon that employs a restricted explosive as
a propellant.

Ammunition It describes a full unexploded unit made up of a bullet, cartridge,


and other components.  primer, casing, and propellant powder.
