3. Detailed Questions (20 Marks)
i. Two mases m and M are attached with the ends of a string which passes over a frictionless
pulley such that the mass M is placed on a smooth horizontal plane surface and the mass m
moves vertically downward. Calculate the acceleration and tension of the system.
ii. Define elastic collision. Two spherical bodies of different masses moving with different velocities
along same line collide elastically with one another. Find the expression for the final velocities of
both bodies after collision
iii. Define momentum and gives its S.I. unit. Also state and prove the law of conservation of linear
momentum.
