Executive Summary

1. SUPPLY/DEMAND SITUATION DURING OCTOBER 2021

Urea offtake during October, 2021 was 514 thousand tonnes which recorded an increase of 24.4
per cent over October, 2020. DAP offtake was 342 thousand tonnes which increased by 49.2 per
cent over October, 2020. This increase in Urea and DAP offtake is due to uncertainty in the supply
and upward trend in prices. Total nutrient offtake during October 2021 was about 563 thousand
nutrient tonnes which increased by 45.4 per cent over same timeframe of 2020. Nitrogen offtake
increased by 39.3 per cent while phosphate offtake increased by 59.5 per cent. Potash offtake
increased by 23.7 per cent over October 2020.

2. FERTILIZER PRODUCTION AND IMPORTED SUPPLIES

Production of all fertilizer products during October 2021 was about 802 thousand tonnes, out of
which urea production was 539 thousand tonnes. Other products were: DAP 75, CAN 77, NP 85,
SSP 14.4, SOP 0.9 and different grades of NPK 11 thousand tonnes. Total imported supplies were
296 thousand tonnes comprising 274 thousand tonnes of DAP, 2.2 thousand tonnes of SOP, 7.3
thousand tonnes of MOP, 7.0 thousand tonnes of MAP and 5.2 thousand tonne of AS.

3. OUTLOOK FOR RABI 2021-22

The Rabi 2021-22 season started with opening inventory of 116 thousand tonnes of urea. Total
availability of urea would be around 3,304 thousand tonnes comprising of 3,088 thousand tonnes
domestic production. Urea offtake during Rabi 2021-22 is estimated around 3,195 thousand tonnes
leaving behind closing inventory of 107 thousand tonnes at the end of Rabi season. Closing
inventory from December 2021 onward is below 200 thousand tonnes which reflects a very tight
situation. Government should ensure the provision of additional gas to FFBL plant and import of
100 thousand tonnes on fast track basis to combat shortage.

The total availability of DAP during Rabi 2021-22 would be around 1,086 thousand tonnes, which
comprises of 356 thousand tonnes of imported supply, 377 thousand tonnes of domestic production
and 353 thousand tonnes of opening stock. The offtake of DAP is estimated around 1,003 thousand
tonnes. Situation regarding DAP looks satisfactory as other phosphate fertilizers like NP, MAP,
SSP and NPKs will also be available in the market to meet phosphate demand.

4. PRICE TREND
Domestic: Increase in the prices of all fertilizer products was observed during October,
2021compared with previous month. The prices of urea (sona), urea (other) and CAN increased by
2.5, 1.3 and 0.2 per cent, respectively over September 2021. The prices of DAP, NP, SSP (G), SOP
and NPKs also increased by 6.6, 6.4, 5.4, 10.8 and 5.2 per cent, respectively.

International: Fob bulk China urea price was quoted at US $ 615-635/t against 395-500/t of
previous month. Middle East bulk urea was set at US $ 660-749/t. DAP price during October 2021
was referred at US $ 626-670/t fob bulk in Australia, and US $ 635-638/t in China market. MAP
and TSP prices remained at the level of US $ 689-760 and 595-690/t, respectively. Ex-Karachi
price of urea was in the range of Rs. 7029-8467 per 50 kg bag while that of DAP was in the range
of Rs. 6349-6846 per 50 kg bag during October, 2021.

1. INTRODUCTION

The report presents the product and nutrient-wise fertilizer supply/demand situation in respect of
urea and DAP during October 2021, and brief outlook for Rabi season 2021-22. It also provides
average domestic retail prices and international fertilizer prices of the major products; namely
urea, DAP, NP, SSP, CAN and SOP.

2. FERTILIZER OFFTAKE DURING OCTOBER, 2021

Urea offtake during October, 2021 was 514 thousand tonnes which recorded an increase of 24.4
per cent over October, 2020. DAP offtake was 342 thousand tonnes which increased by 49.2 per
cent over October, 2020 (Table 1). This increase in Urea and DAP offtake is due to uncertainty in
the supply and upward trend of prices. Total nutrient offtake during October 2021 was about 563
thousand nutrient tonnes which increased by 45.4 per cent over same timeframe of 2020. Nitrogen
offtake increased by 39.3 per cent while phosphate offtake increased by 59.5 per cent. Potash
offtake increased by 23.7 per cent over October 2020.

3. FERTILIZER PRODUCTION AND IMPORTED SUPPLIES

About 802 thousand tonnes of different fertilizer products were manufactured in Pakistan during
the month of October 2021 (Table 2). The major share was of urea (67.2 per cent) with 539
thousand tonnes. Other products were DAP 75, NP 85, CAN 77, SSP 14.4, SOP 0.9 and different
grades of NPK 11 thousand tonnes. About 296 thousand tonnes of fertilizer products have been
supplied through imports which comprised of 274 thousand tonnes of DAP, 2.2 thousand tonnes of
SOP, 7.3 thousand tonnes of MOP, 7.0 thousand tonnes of MAP and 5.2 thousand tonne of AS.

4. PROVINCE-WISE UREA AND DAP OFFTAKE DURING OCTOBER 2021

Offtake of urea increased by 25 per cent in each of Punjab and Balochistan, while it increased by 30 per cent
in Sindh. Offtake of urea decreased by 14 per cent in KP. Offtake of DAP increased by 61, 21, 70 and 7 per
cent in Punjab, Sindh, KP and Balochistan, respectively over previous year (Table 3).

5. UREA AND DAP SUPPLY/DEMAND SITUATION DURING OCTOBER, 2021

Total urea availability during October 2021 was about 655 thousand tonnes, which comprised of 116
thousand tonnes left over of previous month and 539 thousand tonnes of domestic production (Table 4).
The offtake of urea was 514 thousand tonnes, leaving a balance of 140 thousand tonnes of urea for
November, 2021.

Total availability of DAP during October 2021 was 702 thousand tonnes, which include 353
thousand tonnes stock of previous month, 75 thousand tonnes of domestic production and 274
thousand tonnes of imported supply. DAP offtake was 342 thousand tonnes. The closing balance
worked out to be 360 thousand tonnes for next month.

6. OUTLOOK FOR RABI 2021-22

The Rabi 2021-22 season started with opening inventory of 116 thousand tonnes of urea. Total
availability of urea would be around 3,304 thousand tonnes with the estimated domestic
production of 3,088 thousand tonnes. Urea offtake during Rabi 2021-22 is estimated around 3,195
thousand tonnes leaving behind closing inventory of 107 thousand tonnes at the end of Rabi
season. Closing inventory from December 2021 onward is below 200 thousand tonnes which
reflects a very tight situation. Government should ensure the provision of additional gas to FFBL

7. FERTILIZER PRICES

previous month. The prices of urea (sona), urea (other) and CAN increased by 2.5, 1.3 and 0.2 per
cent, respectively over September 2021. The prices of DAP, NP, SSP (G), SOP and NPKs also
increased by 6.6, 6.4, 5.4, 10.8 and 5.2 per cent, respectively.

7.2 International prices

Fob bulk China urea price was quoted at US $ 615-635/t against 395-500/t of previous month.
Middle East bulk urea was set at US $ 660-749/t. DAP price during October 2021 was referred at
