AIR POLLUTION

Air pollution is the presence of one or more physical, chemical, or biological substances in the
atmosphere in quantities that can harm the health of humans, animals and plants that can interfere with
aesthetics and comfort, or damage property. Air pollution can be caused by natural sources as well as
human activities.

The decline in air quality in Indonesia,

especially the Jakarta and surrounding areas,
is entering a new week. It was recorded that
since June 15, 2022, the concentration of
PM2.5 has increased and reached its peak at
the level of 148 g/m3 (micrograms per cubic
meter). The decline in air quality in the Jakarta
area and its surroundings is caused by a
combination of emission sources from air
pollution contributors and meteorological
factors that are conducive to the accumulation of PM2.5 concentrations. The results of monitoring the
concentration of PM2.5 at BMKG Kemayoran Jakarta show that throughout June 2022 the average
concentration of PM2.5 is at the level of 41 g/m3 in the MEDIUM category. The concentration of PM2.5
shows a diurnal pattern which indicates a different pattern between day and night. The concentration of
PM2.5 tends to increase in the early morning to early morning and decrease in the afternoon until the
afternoon. Especially in the last few days PM2.5 experienced a spike in concentration increases and the
highest was at the level of 148 g/m3 on June 15, 2022. PM2.5 with this concentration can be categorized
in the category of UNHEALTHY air quality.
Humans are the main and biggest cause of air pollution. Humans also feel the worst effects of air
pollution. Air pollution is one of the environmental damage, in the form of a decrease in air quality due
to the entry of harmful elements into the air or the earth's atmosphere. Hazardous elements that enter
the atmosphere can be in the form of carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (No2),
chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), sulfur dioxide (So2), hydrocarbons (HC), particulate matter, tin (Pb), and
carbon dioxide. Dioxide (CO2). These elements can also be referred to as pollutants or types of air
pollutants. The entry of pollutants into the atmosphere that causes air pollution can be caused by two
factors, namely natural factors and human factors. The cause of air pollution from natural factors, for
example, is volcanic activity that emits volcanic ash and gases, forest fires, and microorganism activities.
Pollutants produced are usually in the form of smoke, dust, and gases.

There are countless causes of air pollution. And almost all caused by human hands themselves.
Below are the causes of air pollution.

1. Pollution Caused by Motor Vehicle Smoke

2. Power plants
3. Volcanic Eruption Pollutant Ash
4. Industrial or Factory Smoke Waste
5. Agricultural Waste
6. Mining Activities
7. Household Activities
8. Forest fires
9. Garbage Effect
10. . Illegaloging or Illegal Logging

The impact of air pollution from vehicle fumes, factory smoke, cigarette smoke, and others can
trigger respiratory problems, such as asthma, ARI, and lung cancer. In addition, air pollution can also end
in reduced oxygen levels in the human body

The solutions to deal with the growing problem of air pollution in Indonesia are:

1. Reducing the Use of Motorized Vehicles

2. Energy saving.
3. Buy Recycled Products.
4. Using Sustainable Products.
5. Plant Trees.
6. Walk, Bike or Use Public Transportation.
7. Eat Local and Organic Products.
8. Eat less meat.
