INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES ON CARRYING OUT CORRECTIONS

GENERAL OBSERVATION:
1. Any document you send for correction should be typed out in Courier New
font with text in 12” size and titles in 14” size.
2. All documents sent should contain page numbers legibly printed on the
top right corner of the page.

IDENTIFYING CORRECTIONS MADE IN WORDS:

1. You can find 3 types of corrections.
2. First are Insertions I have done which will appear in differently
colored font.
3. Second are Deletions I have done which will appear struck down in a
differently colored font.
4. Third are Suggestions I have made which will appear in yellow
highlighted form, followed by my comment in yellow highlight within
parenthesis informing you of what has gone wrong with the highlighted
area. For example, (unclear stet.revise), (ambiguous sentence.revise),
(faulty grammar.revise), (check spelling of the word), (source
missing.add), (stand alone stet.revise).
5. Wherever a correction has been introduced in your document, you will
find a vertical differently colored line on your left margin.

IDENTIFYING CORRECTIONS MADE IN PUNCTUATIONS:

1. If you find a differently colored line between two words, it means there
is unnecessary space between them that should be reduced.
2. If you find any quotation mark in differently colored font, stop and
observe carefully. If there is a line above the quotation mark, it means
remove the quotation mark (because it is a faulty punctuation used by
you which has got to be deleted). If there is a line below the quotation
mark, it means(I have inserted a punctuation mark there) include the
quotation mark.
3. If you find a differently colored line at the last sentence of a
paragraph running quite long to the first sentence of the next
paragraph, it means join the two paragraphs.

HOW TO CARRY OUT THE CORRECTIONS MADE IN WORDS AND PUNCTUATIONS:

1. After reading the entire document and carefully observing the mistakes
made by you, copy the entire document and paste it on a fresh MS Word
page of your system. Once you do this, you will find that all
corrections (insertions/deletions) that I have done will automatically
be carried out by the system itself. You need not have to manually input
the corrections.
2. Only the yellow highlights will remain the same followed by my comment
given in parenthesis. These are the only places where you have to comply
with the directions provided in the parenthesis and manually carry out
the corrections suggested. After carrying out the correction/suggestion,
you should remove the yellow highlight. And you should delete the
instruction provided by me within parenthesis.

RE-SENDING THE CORRECTED DOCUMENT FOR CORRECTIONS AGAIN:

1. Follow the instructions below when you re-send the corrected document
for correction again.
2. The document which you re-send should highlight all the corrections done
using red highlighter and should be followed by the word (correction)
appearing in brackets and highlighted in red, so that I can go through
the highlighted sentences and understand the corrections you have made.
3. Any new insertion you have made in the document (be it a single word,
sentence, or a paragraph)should be highlighted using blue highlighter
and such sentences should be followed by the word (insertion) appearing
in brackets and highlighted in blue, so that I can go through them and
correct the mistakes in the inserted sentences if any.
4. Please make a hard copy of these pages and keep it safe with you for
further reference. You should retain this copy until you are awarded
your MPhil or PhD degree.
5. Every time you plan to send a soft copy for correction to your research
supervisor, go through this document and cross-verify whether you have
properly carried out all the instructions provided in these pages.
6. Failure to comply with the instructions provided above will lead to
rejection of your e-mails. You will also lose the privilege of sending
soft copies, and will be advised to go by hard copies thereafter.
