PROCEDURE
Contingency and Emergency Shut Down Procedure
WORK INSTRUCTION
The Quality Manager along with Operation Manager to ensure procedure is established
and communicated to all in case of a contingency in the Operation and needs to be shut
down.
1.0 Procedure
An ESD panel provides a system to protect Sand Management System (SMS) equipment
from any unsafe parameters. These parameters may exceed set pressures or levels that
may cause a release of hydrocarbons to the environment. ESD system is composed of
ESD valve, a control panel, Hi/Lo pressure and level switches, fusible plugs, ESD
stations with manual valves and air supply or nitrogen supply bottles.
In the events of Hi/Lo pressure, Hi/Lo level or fire, the system loop triggers and releases
pressure from ESD valve. ESD panel is capable of interfacing with platform or location
ESD system in addition to integration into a data acquisition system. Other process
equipment such as pumps and compressors can be monitored by an ESD panel system.
A) Rigging up:
(i) Prior to beginning of operation, conduct a tool box talk (FO-RA-SMS-404) and
JSA (JSA-RA-SMS-001).
(iv) Set Hi/Lo pressure switches to desired trip pressure and bench test.
(v) Set level switches per requirement around pertinent separator and tanks.
(viii) Connect Hi/Lo pressure and level switches, temperature plugs and ESD stations
to the ESD panel via 3/8” poly-flo tubing.
(ix) Connect air supply to ESD panel. Supply pressure required is 100 psig minimum.
(x) Connect ESD panel to ESD valve. Apply hydraulic pressure to the valve via hose
to +/- 3,000 psig.
B) Operation:
(i) Air supply from the loop pressure will charge the ESD system.
(ii)Set loop to desired pressure using regulator.
(iii) ESD panel cannot be put into service until the ESD loop is charged.
C) Post Operation:
(i) After operation shut down, shut down air supply.
(ii)Purge pressure from ESD loop.
(iii) Disconnect level and pressure switches, fusible plugs and ESD stations.
(iv) Stow all equipment in the proper boxes and containers. Label all equipment and
accessories with red label with required maintenance noted.
(v)Arrange for shipment back to base.
(vi) Seal the boxes and containers and label all material indicating its origin and
destination.
(vii) Work status report must be submitted to the maintenance supervisor.
