Direction: Go over the questions carefully and answer straight to the point.
● Watch the movie or look for a movie review for Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009). Afterwards,
answer the following questions.
1.) How will you describe the material self of the main character? (5 pts)
Rebecca Bloomwood's main strength was honesty. She always told the truth no matter how good
or how bad the outcome may have been.She feels fraud, because she is giving everybody financial advice
when at the same time, she is in the hole with all of her debt that she needs to pay off.She did not have
much self-discipline, because she could not control herself buying all the material that she bought.
2. ) Based on the ending, what kind or sense of self is promoted by the film? (5)
The story ends with Rebecca taking a step forward after wallowing in sadnessand frustration by
selling all her clothes and using the money to pay off her debt.Although it is bother some that she
didn’t get any help with her impulsive buying and even influenced fellow members of the support group to
spend to their hearts’ content,we can find relief in the change that she started to undergo.The lesson of the
movie is be responsible for your own actions. Rebecca loved shopping. Budgeting, as you guys know, is
one of the best ways to manage your finances. Start by keeping track of your purchases in whatever way
works best for you.
