MTQUIZ01:

CHEMICAL
SAFETY
Working Hazard
Classifications
1. Safety- Clutter
2. Physical- lighting
3. ergonomic- repetitive walking
up and down the stairs
4. Psychological- Anxiety
5. Biological- Mosquito
6. Chemical- Floorwax
1. The clutter on the stairs can cause someone to trip
and fall
2. Because of poor lighting, someone might misstep
and fall.
3. Someone can get RSI because of repetitive walking
up and down the stairs.
4. Because of its dark lighting and the statue on the
table, it can get scary to look at at night.
5. Due to its dark nature, mosquitos like to dwell in it.
These mosquitos might bring dengue.
6. The cresol in floor wax can damage our kidneys and
liver if inhaled continuously.

of Control
GHS Chemical
Labeling

Ajax powder bleach, according to its

SDS, contains hazards such as H332
which can be harmful if inhaled. It can
also cause skin irritation if used for
an extended period of time, eye
irritation if direct contact with the eyes
occurs, and can be fatal if consumed
in large amounts.

Safety Data
Sheet
1. What is the name of the substance and its
chemical formula?
(Name) Calcium Carbonate and (Formula)
CaCO3

2. What are its associated hazards? Look for the GHS

pictograms, NFPA Hazard Identification System, and
Hazardous Materials Identification System.

According to its GHS Pictogram (Warning Sign) and GHS-US

Labeling, Calcium Carbonate can cause mild to severe
irritations of the eyes, skin, and respiratory. Large
quantities may also cause gastrointestinal irritation. It is
anticipated that there will be little risk of ingestion.
Although not assigned a rating by the NFPA, according to its
HMIS (U.S), Calcium Carbonate has slight hazards when it
comes to Health and Physical hazards, meanwhile minimal
hazards for its Flammability and Reactivity.

3. What is the recommended personal protective

equipment that you are to use when you are
handling it?

Although HMIS labeling states that Calcium

Carbonate does not require PPE, it is still
advised to wear protective gear such as
protective eyewear and gloves when handling
the substance.

4. What are you going to do when somebody in the

workplace (your home) accidentally inhaled it?

According to the SDS Sheet, the advised thing to

do was to loosen the clothing as needed and place
the individual in a comfortable position. Move
around to get some fresh air. If necessary, use
artificial respiration. Give oxygen if breathing is
difficult. Seek medical attention if a cough or
other symptoms appear.

5. How will you dispose of the substance properly?

I would follow the advised procedure of

transporting it to the disposal area or burying it.

The video lessons on chemical safety were very well

done. Every unit lesson that was divided into multiple
videos helped me to not be overwhelmed by such a
broad topic to the point where I didn't realize it was 2
hours long when combined. Every piece of information
provided by the instructor was also precise and clear.
Overall, it was a helpful and efficient method of
learning for me.
