THE IMPORTANCE OF LEARNING CROSS CULTURE UNDERSTANDING

FOR MANGGARAIAN PEOPLE

Culture is the way of life that growing and it always keep by group of people and become
a necessity to do from generation to generation. Also culture is the values that have by the group
of people and institutionalized in the form of artefact culture and can be used by the society also
for the new generation. By the artefact of culture we will know about the values of the society in
the past. It is really significant as a knowledge source. According to E.B. Tylor (1871), culture is
the complex things include the knowledge, faith, art, moral, law, tradition, and the others skills
also the custom that get by human as the members of society. The real of the culture that we can
saw from the attitude of the human and the culture have the rule and it must be do because it is
such kinds of the obligation. All the culture are move because it’s dynamic because the change
of culture is moving of human itself. So that human must be accept everything that can change
the original of the culture itself. Because the change of the culture can helps the people life to be
better than yesterday. There are some component of the culture in the world: they are.

1. The equipment of life (the customs, the house, transportation, and etc).
2. The system economy and also the job( the gardening, the animal husbandry, the
system of production, and the distribution’s system)
3. The system of society( system of family, the politics organization, the system of law,
and the system of marriage)
4. The language(written or spoken)
5. The arts
6. The system of knowledge
 7. The faith

One thing that we felt by the changing of the culture is the way to organize the gardening and it’s
happened because there the impact of outside our culture come inside and the society take it also
practice it in their daily life. Cross culture understanding is one of many ways that can learn by
people that want to know the differences of all the culture in the world. And it is can help people
to avoid misunderstand about the others culture. Besides that learn Cross Culture Understanding
also help us to know the characteristics of every culture and also the most important is to enrich
our knowledge about it. Indonesia is a country that have many culture and racial so that’s why
our culture most special than another culture. Although in Indonesia have many culture but it is
not makes us have problem about it. That case exactly makes us proud because no one else have
the same culture like what we have. The local culture itself is the origin of culture from a certain
group of people in society.

According to J.W.Ajawaila, local culture is the special culture that have by a group of
people. The local culture have the most affect in the humans life like : the first, the food that we
eat every day, it means here is the local people do not feel full when they eat is not rice because
rice is the main course for the local people than foreign people. That case is the result of the
culture that was made by ancestor in the past and the new generation still unable to change that
habit. The second, how to organize the time to work. The local people still can’t to organize their
time as the foreign people because they always spend their time to do useless thing and it is can
make bad impact for their economy. That case make their life still not change as long as they try
to work hard but doesn’t work because they can’t organize the time as well. So that the local
people must be learn about the foreign people how they organize their time to work and practice
it in daily life to improve their knowledge about it. When they study about something new it can
be able to set up their mind in or order to the way of their thinking. And the third is about mental.
The local people leaning do not want to try something new because their thinking most over
think the bad result but it is really against with the routineness of foreign people and they really
brave to try the new one in their life although it is really challenges and because they always try
to do everything so that they never afraid. So that we can say try something is be better than
nothing although the result of what we do is not as what we expect.
 The local culture that what the new generation keep sometimes make the people life
really bad. Because they can’t change their mind. That’s is the reason why the local people
should be learn cross culture understand to be able to compare our culture and another culture
and also to know the way why their life is better. And also to avoid misunderstand between
another people in another culture. When we study about the other culture explicitly we already
study about the nation of the culture itself. There we will be know and understand about overall
as how they make relation with the other, the greeting that they have, and the way to
communicate.
