TOPIC : OLD BILDING – NEW BUILDING

Topic: The restoration of old buildings in major cities in the world costs numerous
governments’ expenditures. This money should be used in new housing and road
development. To what extent do you agree and disagree?

It is often said that it will be exorbitant for governments to rehabilitate older buildings.
While I admit that this can be acceptable and beneficial in some aspects. I would argue
that that the allocation of money and resources to transport systems and modern buildings
are more significant

On the one hand, there are a number of compelling reasons why older buildings
should be renovated. To begin with, numerous aged buildings, especially historic ones
possess unique cultural import. One typical example for this is that the Notre Dame
Cathedral in HCM city which has cost the state a massive amount of money for recent
renovations. This hundred-year-old historic monument is renowned for its attachment
with historical events and religious denominations. In addition, conservation efforts can
spur on the development of the national economy. Indeed, a wide array of buildings with
unique designs and exquisite architecture are used as tourist spots often bring
considerable revenue to the town. Hoi An Ancient Town in VN can perfectly exemplify
this. This tourist attraction has appealed to numerous international tourists on an annual
basis, contributing greatly to making the local economy thrive with the money visitors
spend on a variety of products and services, ranging from food, souvenirs,
accommodation to travel

On the other hand, there are a host of benefits when it comes to the investment in new
houses and roads. The first one is that the influx of people these days is prone to flocking
to metropolises. Therefore city-dwellers have to confront severe housing shortages (with
the shortage of houses), which makes the demolition of dilapidated buildings more
justifiable. A salient example for this is that Tokyo where the authorities give high
weight to provide apartments for citizens instead of protecting older houses in order to
deal with the growing need for housing. Furthermore, to address the traffic congestion,
improvement in the transport system is essential. Since enlarging or constructing new
roads requires more land, old buildings under poor conditions and low quality should be
knocked down to make the way for developing public transport systems
In conclusion, While the allocation of expenditure on antique buildings has its own
merits. I strongly believe that spending money on constructing new houses and
improving transport systems has more advantages such as coping with the booming
populations and dealing with traffic issues.
