Specifically, the study sought to: (1)

determine the physico-chemical parameters
of mangrove sites in the catchment
barangays in Ulot River, Eastern Samar; (2)
identify the common mangrove species in the
study site; (3) assess the sites’ species
composition of the mangrove sites; and (4)
evaluate the density of species found in the
area as basis for species conservation.
This study involved the conduct of various
physico-chemical parameters, the
identification of mangrove species using the
transect line plot (TLP) method, and the
distinguishability of faunal species that thrive
in the mangrove ecosystem. Can-avid,
(12.00° N, 125.47°E) is one of the 22
municipalities in the province of Eastern
Samar. The town has an area of 288.70km2
with 28 barangays. The study was conducted
in Brgy. Cansangaya, Brgy. Canteros, Brgy.
Carolina, Brgy Malinao and Brgy. Malogo.
Based on the result of the study, the following
generalizations are presented: Results shows
that mangrove sites in the catchment
barangays of Ulot River have a good number
of mangrove cover, as evidenced by high
importance value of the dominant mangrove
species. The most common species found in
the sites are Miapi (Avicennia marina) and
Avicennia alba. Results shows that the most
dominant species belongs to genus
Avicennia. Results shows that there is a
higher index value of 2.917 which implies
greater species diversity and evenness of
species that will dominate the future stand.
