To the Child of Jesus is a religious short poem that created by Dr. Jose Rizal in
1875 when he was 14 years old during the Spanish time. In my research, he
make this poem to greet his brother in law, Antonio Lopez on his saint’s day. The
poem was addressing the child Jesus and asking him why he choose to get born
on a manger as his place of birth. He further asked why does Fortune whether it
is fate or wealth has left him the moment he entered in this world. The poem
emphasize the expression of grief or pity and showing of being doubting by the
idea that anyone is willing to be a shepherd rather than a President. Over all the
poem was about Dr. Jose Rizal asking the child Jesus about the chosen status
that he been through in our world. Rizal targeted audience was the Filipinos,
specifically the Christians that may also open deeply their mind about our Lord or
the idea of choosing to be a average people than being on above of all. The
child's education previously, Rizal taught the basic truths and believes of
Christianity. He had already felt deeply and hand great dreams for his country. It
was easy for his young mind to connect the life and suffering of Jesus, God
incarnate, to the present struggles of the nation against abuse, as Rizal believed
in non-violence and clearly found a firm ally in the person of Christ. Also, he was
determined to his beliefs and remain faithful to his country. This poem can taught
us to think deeply about the things that is questionable and find or study more the
answers to each questions to widen our knowledge.
