Chapter 2

GLS210
Cadastral Surveying II
Universiti Teknologi MARA (Perlis)
Lesson Outcomes

• At the end of lessons, students should be able:

– To explain the basic concept of SUM, application,
JUPEM2U, least square adjustment (LSA),
– Understand the ASCII file/ code, 16 ASCII file to be
submitted to JUPEM2U
– To applied LSA using STAR*NET software
according to CSR 6/2009.
Introduction
Sistem Ukur Maya (SUM) is a web-based
application catered for the need to verify
and validate the survey ASCII files
submitted by JUPEM District Officer and
Surveyors as well as from Licensed Land
Surveyor, using Least Square Adjustment
software.

SUM Processing Server

➢ Processing any filed work data from LLSM or DSMM

➢ Delivery survey data with capabilities to checking and
processing.
➢ Monitoring and control any field works.

➢ To generate survey data and adjustment project file.

➢ To perform the least square adjustment and quality check
for the particular survey data
➢ To produce survey and quality report
➢ To prevent manually adjusted survey data

ASCII
• Acronym for the American Standard Code
for Information.
• ASCII code is used to represent text.
• ASCII files are sometimes called plain text
files.
• It refers to textual data in ASCII format.
• Plain text is the most portable format
because it is supported by nearly every
application on every machine.
e.g. plain text file in the ASCII file
A check list for ASCII for SUM
e.g. 16 ASCII file to be submitted to SUM
Example of ASCII file
▪ JUBL submits Traverse data for SUM Processing via J2U after performing
initial survey.
▪ After SUM processing, JUBL can download the LSA result from J2U
▪ JUBL submits Surveyed Job to JUPEM State via J2U. J2U shall verify the
submission data; submit for SUM processing before moving the Surveyed Job
to Cawangan Pangkalan Data for eQC processing.
1. Able to unzip submitted surveyed data (16 ASCII)
2. Able to generate .DAT from 16 ASCII
3. Able to process surveyed data with Star*NET residing
at SUM Servers
4. Star*NET Configuration is standardized
5. Weightage setting for LSA is standardized
6. After Star*Net processing, able to output the following:
1. .LST – if passed
2. .ERR – if failed

Implementation of LSA in the

SUG210 (LP) and the procedure
Learning Outcomes
• At the end of this topic, the students
should be able:
– To generate a List Square Adjustment (LSA)
method using starnet’s software.
– To produce adjustment of bearing, distance,
adjusted coordinate in the networks.
– To apply implement LSA during the refixation
procedures.
– To compute the vector displacement
Contents
• Key-in the data into starnet
• Run minimum constraint
– To find the others held fixed
• Run maximum constraint
– To adjust network with maximum adjustment
• Calculate Vector Displacement
Requirements (Field Book and
StarNet software)
Extract information from field book
Key-in to ascii file
Open StarNet application
• Create new job→ your file will be save as
*.prj
• Click to options and project.
– The project options window will appear,
– In the adjustment tab, Change:
• Adjustment type → 2D
• Linear →meters
• Angular→ DMS
• Coordinate System→ Local
• The rest→ used as default
Cont.
• In the General tab:
– Used default setting
– Try and errors for your North-east of input or
output coordinate order
– Click button “OK” to finished project options.
Input data
Click edit button
Copy a data from ascii file and
save the file
Minimum
constraint
Or you can insert direct from other
source by click “add” button
Click “run the adjustment” button
The network adjustment with Error
Propagation Summary
If your data is exceed lower bound click “network plot” to
see your shape and dimensions of network
Generate your report using ”List”
button
• Extract residual of bearing and residual of
distance, these information are to correct
your final bearing and final distance into field
book data.
• Next, extract an information of Adjusted
coordinate of you network and compare it
with the NDCDB coordinates.
• There are 2 methods can be applied in this
project, first using starnet + autoCAD or using
manual calculation as brief in the lecture
under topic 1 (CSR2009 Refixation method).
Method 1: Autocad + Starnet
• The requirements:
I. Adjusted data of DXF (autoCAD) file from the
starnet
II. Existing NDCDB

• Procedure of starnet:
i. Click on the Tools and DXF Exporter
ii. Pin the location dxf file to be save
iii. Change Scale :→ 1
iv. And click Export button
Open the *.dxf file using
AutoCAD
Select all object from the dxf file and click to edit and copy with
Base Point, and read the command and click at any line or point
Switch window of DXF of traverse to
NDCDB drawing
Open the NDCDB drawing
Paste to original coordinate using
edit tool
You will see the adjusted traverse
and lot NDCDB are merged
Next, find the others held fixed or maximum
constraint, using command “di” or distance to
calculate vector displacement to each of
boundary marks are found
Lastly edit the starnet of the minimum
constraint to the maximum constraint

Maximum
constraint
Rerun the adjustment again
